h/t to Tom Mattzie for suggesting the kind of message that we collectively need to give to Congress:

While FDL was liveblogging the debate on the Iraq supplemental bill, I've been doing a little hunting around to get statements from various congresscritters on their stand. (Howie has the list of the votes)
Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D-CA06) has a statement that makes me proud, calling for Congress not to capitulate to Bush's 'blind arrogance':
This capitulation proves once and for all that we cannot negotiate with this President. He won't listen to his military generals on the ground, he won't listen to outside experts like the Iraq Study Group, he won't listen to the Congress, and worst of all he won't listen to the American public.
Sen.s Russ Feingold, Barbara Boxer and Pat Leahy have issued statements urging their colleagues to not vote for the supplemental, as did the Connecticut Democratic Congressional Delegation.
Please, if you haven't already, let's remind our congresspeople that they work for us. Contact your representatives and let them know on the eve of this Memorial Day weekend that the number of soldiers that will die between now and next Memorial Day are on their shoulders, because they wouldn't stand up to this President and for the American people.
UPDATE: Andrew Bacevich, Sr., who lost his son in Iraq earlier this month, gives an interview to NPR:
"What kind of democracy is this -- when the people do speak, and the people's voice is unambiguous ... but nothing happens?"
