Darcy Burner on the FISA bill
By Nicole Belle Sunday Aug 05, 2007 12:47pm
Darcy was a Blue America guest a few weeks back and she was the real deal during her chat.
What a refreshingly honest and straightfoward take. Would that our Democrats in Congress be that way.
If you want to help get Darcy to Congress to inject some progressive common sense, you can donate to her campaign via Blue America.

FISA free-zone!
Frist!
Truth to Power.
Go girl, you have my eyes and ears.
Can any of the candidates be believed? They say one thing to get elected but when they vote in congress their promises vanish.
As probably the last of the FDR "bleeding liberals" I have to leave the Democratic Party. It no longer represents the "little guy".
NONE THE WISER FOR FISA, DEMS ALLOW BUSH TO INSTALL ‘NANNY-CAMS’ IN THEIR OFFICES
Of the 231 Democrats 41 voted yes, of the 202 Republicans 2 voted no, someone explain how this is the last time some of you will vote for a Democrat because this is so they are so bad? Look at your Representative, Democrat or Republican and how they voted and stop painting all Democrats and Republicans as the same.
Nicole: Off Topic, BUT you might want to consider a C&L thread w/respect to following:
www.advocateforyouth.org/news/press/071907.htm
Most certainly ANOTHER example of how "our" U.S. Congress(especially the Dems)
are out of touch with reality and are not attentive or listening to the general public.
Makes me want to upchuck...
Democrats passed it you shill.
Her advice is like touching an electric fence again and again.
John or Nicole: Sorry, maybe it can be viewed at http://www.advocateforyouth.org/news/press/071907.htm
I agree new and better people need to be elected- but why should they be Democrats? Democrats have shown what they are: weak willed chickens and little different than Republicans. At some point yo have to turn away from Democrats towards and independent choice. That time has come. Democrats are every bit as complicit as Republicans.
RayC @ 6:
Once again, a voice of reason. I put in some time last election at Darcy's phone banks, trying to beat Dave Reichert, a rubber stamp republican. She's not even in my district.
Yeah, Bastard Webb was running on 'ending the war.' re:FISA, Webb said this, "Government's power should end at my front door." Fuck you Webb! Here's another quote, "When I'm in the Senate, I'll use that power not only to stop the rubber stamp that's been given to the White House..." Fuck you again, Webb! You voted with the republicans to give Bush a blank check! Now you voted AGAIN with the republicans to legitimize Bush's illegal NSA activities with no oversight! Did I mention?...FUCK YOU, Webb!!
NO MONEY for any candidates until they prove themselves under fire. Both Feingold and Kucinich have done this, Hillary, Obama and Edwards have NOT. Edwards even voted for the war after seeing the intel. Screw that! The "frontrunners" have been selected by the corporations & the MSM as the most bankable...not by the American public!
We're getting railroaded. Time to prepare for serious 'monkeywrenching.'
john/nicole: One more time....
http://www.advocatesforyouth.org/news/press/071907.htm
Perfect! It's time to replace anyone and everyone who is now a traitor to the Constitution. I love her response. Sweet and to the point and where everyone can understand.
John/Nichole: Each day I learn a little more about your C&L site. I had failed to
note that in the Menu at the left of this site, towards top of page, a person can
send tips/etc. to you directly. Sorry for not noticing earlier and apologize for
taking up OT subject on this thread.
Nicole Belle does a disservice to the readers of C&L by not informing them that there was very little difference between Darcy Burner and her opponent to whom she lost, Dave Reichert, on the issue of Iraq. Ms. Burner, while claiming to be a liberal, said in an interview before her election in one of the Seattle papers, that she was against the idea of an immediate withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq, thereby saving countless lives and even thousands more from returning from Iraq broken, maimed and crippled, because she believed that the troops needed to remain in that slaughterhouse until the job was done. Just another example of how little difference there is between a Democrat and a Republican.
And now they are getting more power to spy on Americans.
The Bush Administration has:
1) misled the country in pursuing war with Iraq
2) have undermined the rule of law
3) enabled destructive policies that have weakened our national security
4) cost more than 3,600 American lives
5) drained our treasury
6) broke the law with a warrantless domestic spy program
7) refused to answer supeanas
8) Called our Constitution "just a piece of paper"
9) Lied about Hussein links to al Qaeda and 9/11
10) tortured foreign detainees
11) obstructed justice into the firing of US Attorneys
It all sounds like a bad movie.
Flashback: Aug. 6, 2001. Six years ago today, President Bush received a classified intelligence briefing that warned "bin Laden" was determined to strike inside the U.S. ... Condoleezza Rice later dismissed the urgency of the briefing, claiming it was “not a warning” but rather a “historical memo.”
Some American families still have some concerns and unanswered questions...
"We, the undersigned, demand the immediate declassification and release of all transcripts and documents relating to the July 10, 2001 ...."
http://www.petitiononline.com/july10/petition.html
Every american, every local, state and federal representative should see and fully understand these issues and unanswered questions. The calls for the release of all transcripts and documents should be a front page story in every city.
People all across the country are ready to have an intelligent conversation on all of these issues. Including Senior Military, Intelligence Service, Law Enforcement, and Government Officials, Engineers, Architects, Pilots, Aviation Professionals, Professors and American Citizens.
"Would that our Democrats in Congress be that way."
Huh?
I hope Darcy wins. She reminds me of Thom Hartmann
Darcy Burner = Restoring Civil Liberties
Dave Reichert = Repaving Coal Creek Parkway
Darcy, you're getting my vote again.
You people are silly:
Harley @ 8:
and Steve @ 10:
The Democrats voted overwhelmingly against this legislation. The Republicans voted almost unanimously for this legislation. Democrats are a step in the right direction. What we need is Democratic leadership that will use all the tools accessible to defend constitutional rights (with the same intensity that the Republican leadership defends embryonic stem cells.)
Old Billy @ 21:
I agree...The majority of the Democrats voted against the bill. Why are many peole such knee-jerk reactionists and paint everyone the same way.
Get the ones who rubber-stamp Bush's policies out of the power and the Democrats will completely rule!
I remember listening to a lot this kind of talk from progressive candidates last year, and we voted a lot of them in. Now that they are in Washington, facing the realities of beltway politics, their actions are not meeting the expectations they gave us last year. All that tough talk is easy on the campaign trail, not so much when they get elected. Having said that, of course I will continue to support progressive candidates and simply work harder to hold their feet to the fire when they are elected. The alternative is simply not acceptable.
Harley @ 8:
I totally agree. If you haven't seen enough of the real Democrats after caving in on war funding, then you're probably still leaving cookies out for Santa.
I like Darcy a lot, and it is going to be a very interesting race in '08 with a lot of resources from the Democrats. Right now the Democrats are going to have to decide between her and Rodney Tom -- who is a pretty decent fellow for being an ex-Republican. Honestly, I like them both; the hard thing about being a Democrat is that sometimes you have two decent people to chose from.
Darcy is an incredible campaigner, she almost took a safe seat from the Republicans. Having Barack Obama come to campaign for her at the end may have helped. The Democrats need more Darcys and Obamas, real ground-up popular politicans who the conventional wisdom thinks do not have a chance.
I hate to rain on anyone's Darcy parade, but she has lost repeatedly in the very Red district, and my friends there are backing Rodney Tom, who has more experience in the district with the type of voters that need to be pulled in to beat Sheriff Dave.
I like Darcy, but she will not poll as well in the Bellevue Issaquah districts as Rodney. Dave is going to get the red areas anyway, you need to pick off the crossover in the 8th and Rodney has the experience and strong Educational reform support (the hottest topic in those areas.
http://rodneytom.com/
I think she is right that we need better democrats: http://www.fas.org/irp/offdocs/eo/eo-12949.htm
Bush took that ball and ran with it to its extreme conclusion, but we can't assume that anybody running as a (D) is a complete progressive. In general, I do not see why the polticians are so scared to run these cases through the regular courts. They can certainly deal with confidentiality issues in running investigations; we have no problems bugging mob bosses. I think the real fear is that the information will come to light later and embarass the government.
I agree with you WashStateBlue. I'm a Darcy supporter living in Maple Valley, but I'm in the minority. There are a lot of conservative people here who adore Dave Reichert. People around here see him as a local hero who will look out for their local interests, whether or not that's the case. All politics is local, especially around here. Darcy needs to be seen as a champion of local interests in order to win more votes in this area.
Vote for a Dem.......blah, blah, blah......now report on the Dems caving AGAIN to Bush.......now, vote for a Dem people.
We all have to face a fact. Congress is not as liberal as we would like. But would you want
another congress like the one we just had..
And another thing. Lets get rid of the "Blue and Yellow dog" Democrats. Those are the ones
that give bush what he wants......
The 231 Democrats who voted no could have blocked this and they could have done some arm-twisting as well. They could have made a stink, but they didn't, and that ought to tell you all that you need to know.
Don Davis @ 5:
I know your joking, but a republican that ran against David Wu(D) wanted to install camera in the all govt services offices, to increase work efficiency. Little did he know that they are doing the work of 2 people or more. That was one of his platform, to spy on govt workers. It just seem surreal that a bizarre movie called, "Brazil" would actually become a reality.

Democrats my ass. f the socialist bastards.
Republicans my ass. f the capitalist bastards.
i want representitives that uphold the constitution.
is not. then they are not representing me and i am not bound to any oath of allegence.
why should anyone obey any laws when they are just manufactured to benifit non-living entities.
law enforce becomes lore enforcement when everything they say and do is based on lies built to of lies founded in mis or dis information.
why should i have any respect for a so called democracy when a majority of the people are not intelligent enough or are to gullible to seriously consider the canidates.
i dont want fucking socized medicine.
i want affordable health care.
i want corporations destroyed in most cases.
i want the lobbyists out of DC.
i dont want any federal government seriously. they are like an appendix that is ready to burst taking the whole country with it.
i say we organize a parallel government and just deny these people their existence.
they can go to DC all the want. but they dont represent us.
Roty,
Let me guess.... Montana Freemen?
From Wikipedia:
Second guess.... tell the ward nurse when he or she makes the rounds that your meds are out of whack again.
.
how can i look up how my senators are voting?
