Is The NY Times The Next NSA Leak Target?
By Nicole Belle Sunday Aug 05, 2007 9:00pmPERRspectives had the story yesterday on the raid on Thomas Tamm's home and now it looks like conservatives are clamoring to expand the investigation to the NY Times as well.
Just when you think Republicans can't get any lower, they dredge just a little more from the swamp.

Are illegal activities classified?
Will they start with Judith Miller?
I thing you would have to ask Dick Cheney that Vinny. :-)
I think they can, and will, go a lot lower.
Who's stopping them?
So ... congress passes the police state bill ... and now the SS are coming for all the people telling the truth? Anyone else think the Rubicon is behind us?
Why shouldn't the GOP dredge? Congressional democrats have their back.
I look forward to this. Let's find out if the NY Times has more balls than a Democratic congress. How's this for a headline:
"Republican Brownshirts Raid Times Office, Steal Documents, Rough Up Staff"
Just like in the movies about Nazi Germany. Great.
Time for Dems to stop the Nice Guys Act and stop being patsys.
why are Americans and particularly repugs so stupid? and that's not a retorical question.
this is the same shit used by hitler and musolini to squash dissent and keep the public in the dark. this bastard administration and all it's slime ball submissive followers are making America a fascist state.
I think they need to investigate Reid and Pelosi for acts of subversion ... use that new presidential directive to confiscate all their property before sending them on 'vacation' for questioning.
I've had it with this timid do nothing presidency.

Yeah...just like what happened in Germany...nothing like a good book burning to get the hearts and minds all twisted...they will do it too..I have no doubt....they just keep digging their hole deeper and deeper......fools,on a fools errand.

WTF...

Seems like efforts are being slowly implemented to set the stage for a Kinder Gentler Nazism.

The Democrats didn't just capitulate, they begged the republicans to abuse them and the republicans obliged. If the Times gets busted and shut down, the Dems will get on board the corporate fascist bandwagon and declaim against a newspaper that actually revealed to the American people that its own government was prying into its telephone conversations.
Until there is real leadership, the Democratic voters will continue to be led down the tubes by cowards and masochists. The voters gave the Dems the power to change things, and the Dems handed the power back to the Republicans.
votingvet @ 16:
The Dems are pastys. People easily taken advantage of, cheated, blamed, or ridiculed.
dadams @ 10:
You give them too much credit. These people have capable minds, but they arent particularly aware - if you understand the notion of awareness as opposed to problem solving. They have problem solving primative minds.
They are self absorbed, self serving, self annointed and cant see beyond the end of their outstretched arm - its them against the world. You have to understand their psychology. For example, they actually believe the media is leftist. They believe that because relative to where they are the media is to the left. They are so far to the right there is nothing to see to the right - they define the right most limit. They must look left to see anything at all - therefore, the world is to their left - which they see as a very bad thing.
These are extremists. Dont put yourself in their shoes. They arent like you, they only look like you. The insides of their heads are filled with primitive shrieking fear driven primates not reason. They are more at home hunting in the 'jungle' than living in civil society. They are predators.
Just my opinion.
Do ya think they'll let us read newspapers in the detention camps?
Reporters/newspapers are suppose to challenge governments.
That is what Condi told Putin in Moscow.
Oh snap.
"Just when you think Republicans can’t get any lower, they dredge just a little more from the swamp."
This quote sums up the difference quite nicely between C+L and me.
I fully expect the Republicans to get even lower...far far lower. In fact I think they already have gotten far far lower. Far far far far lower....
Freedom is in its last throes. The country is dividing into Nazis and socialist. This great country is over. Lets get to Canada quickly.
The NYT wasn't helpful on Iraq WMD. SHould we care that the media is being targeted? There is soemthing you can do if you know where to look.

Of course that would require the Democratic leadership to grow a spine.
So, why is it Nancy Pelosi took impeachment off the table months before she ascended to the position of Madam Speaker? Methinks it's because the Democratic leadership knows it is not only Republicans who have many skeletons rattling around the closets inside the Beltway.
I would dearly love to see the Democrats impeach Bush, because the American people deserve closure on important unsettled questions, such as if the Bush Administration actually did lie us into an "illegal" war.
Regardless of whether the Senate would vote to convict, Congressional Democrats do have the power to pass Articles of Impeachment and lay out their supporting evidence. In contrast with all their rhetoric leading up to the November 2006 elections, Democrats' current lack of action on impeachment only confirms their true agenda, i.e. that maintaining their rather tenuous grip on political power is far more important than seeking justice for the American people who put that power in their hands.
To any and all Whistleblowers out there: send everything you've got to every newspaper in the country, sign your name "Casey LaClaire", and give your computer cement shoes.
Jason Wolfe @ 5:
I have slowly and sadly reached the same conclusion. The Democrats just keep folding. It’s like watching a car wreck in slow motion. When will the ax fall? Doubt that the ’08 elections will be held-we’ll be told in October ’08.
theWalrus @ 19:
They'll make us read them and memorize them in order to get out.
"I, for one, would like to be the first to welcome our new Ant Overlords!
and to remind them that they need the press..."

Hail Ants!
L.A. Confidential @ 9:
I think the Dems were caught doing something bad on video tape and Dick has copies.
I wouldn't call this a Republican or Democrat thing. This leak pissed off the globalists. When you f*** with their police state progress, you're screwed.

Republicrooks and Demohacks
the Times employs Judith Miller, Tom Friedman and David Brooks but gets "far left" billing from the moonshine drinkers
See how the Libby case played right into their hands?
It's difficult because the NY Times has supported the Bush administration's concept of the War on Terror. That concept includes a false narrative about terrorism, specifically 9/11. The false narrative regarding the War on Terror policies is based on propaganda, fearmongering and secrecy. How do we know the ILLEGAL domestic spying program has been crucial in the effort to prevent terror attacks? Because corrupt Bush administration officials have said so. They have claimed the only way to prevent another 9/11 is by trashing the Constitution. And at the end of the day, outfits like the NY Times have condoned this outrageous notion.
The question is why Congress gave Bush the crutch of anti-American, anti-Constitution police state legislation when the record shows that Bush did nothing to prevent 9/11. That isn't incompetence as some suggest. That is dereliction of duty. In effect, we now have a police state because Bush (and his Cabinet) were not held accountable for their criminal negligence (at best) regarding 9/11.
aw, shucks, guys, we just got these nice, big offices, and we don't want to have to give them back right away. Just give us a few more years to figure out which way the wind has already blown, and maybe we won't blow it then. Besides, we want to be the majority party WITH the White House, like those other guys did; then when we take marching orders, they'll at least be spelled grammatical! Besides, if you haven't done anything wrong, you won't have to worry about your habeas corpus or your intercepted communications, your banking data or your library fines. Just you wait! We'll have Bob Shrum where that Rove guy is now! Then we won't need spines at all!
Didn't the Dems authorize a previous disaster?
I hate to tell ya, but Republican command is located about ten thousand miles beneath whatever swamp you’re talking about. Call it the Fuehrer Bunker.
You know, a nice raid on the NYT offices, agents digging around and hauling off editors for investigation -- it might, just might actually bring home to the NYT just the sort of government it has been helping to build.
Who knows? Maybe they'll stop reporting a bunch of unnamed sources pro-administration propaganda. Maybe they'll stop holding off on stories for a year because the administration asks them to. Hard to tell.

"It's not me, it's the man with the flashlight."
Welcome to The United Police States of Amerika. The Democratic Patry's betrayal of America with the FISA bill of a few days ago is the last straw for me. I'm getting out. History is repeating itself, and there is going to be a long darkness ahead. For me, it's time to leave.
So....it's OK to leak the name of a covert CIA agent, but spill the beans on Georgie and Unka Dick's illegal wiretapping scheme and it's Lights Out!
What a sick, twisted world in which we live.
If they come after the Times on this, that's a step towards the end of the tyrants and neocons in government. Because to be successful tyrants, you need to instill fear.
This administration is feeding ANGER...and THAT will bring them down.
So much for freedom of the press. No wonder America scores so low on the Reporters Without Borders Press Freedom index.
Explain again to me how we are different from all the countries that control the media, the print, the radio voices?
Lets see, Cuba, Venezuala, Nicaraga, Darfur, and list goes on.
Remember Bush said," a dictatorship is alright if I am the dictator." Guess he is just about there.
Just when you think Republicans can’t get any lower, they dredge just a little more from the swamp.

I thought it be Archie.
Adding to 43 - How about giving commute to buddy Libby but giving Border Agents 10 years for not doing paperwork trying to catch an illegal smuggling drugs. And where the hell is the Media on this ?
But since the McClatchy papers and a little New York Times and sometimes Washington Post is all there is we best protect it.
Bob - yup, I agree - I've even quit thinking I need to wear a tinfoil hat when I say these thing. BushCo cannot afford to go - they are cornered and they know it - their crimes will come out with the next administration, so their answer is - no next administration. Bush has given himself the right to declare martial law, to take your money (so you can't get out of the country) and lock you up.
I see it this way - mid to late October, 2008 there is a 'terrorist incident' of some kind. Shrub declares a national emergency and asks that the elections be delayed, if Congress rolls over, no problem - just keep adding Freidman units of when they will be held; if Congress resists - martial law. If the people resist martial law - well, that's why KBR built all those detention camps in Wyoming (how much do you suppose Cheney made off these?) If you resist - locked up, if you protest - locked up, if you try to cross the border - locked up. Me, I've made up my mind what I'll do. Other people have to decide for themselves.
