Via Down With Tyranny:
CMJ is reporting that AT&T censored Pearl Jam’s Lollapalooza set on Sunday. Maybe they figured no one would notice. I guess this has to be expected when one gets in bed with freedom’s mortal enemy: corporations, which will always pimp for the status quo. The was an AT&T Blue Room live broadcast set up and an AT&T “content monitor” found “Daughter” too risque for Lollapalooza fans.
Maybe they objected to Eddie quoting that subversive Neil Young! No, it wasn’t that. According to the Pearl Jam website it was lines sung by Eddie: “George Bush, leave this world alone” and “George Bush find yourself another home” that offended them so. Pearl Jam doesn’t seem too happy: Read more…

Feist!
all of your poor people whining about your rights.
BORING!!!!
Big whoop. Blogs censor commentors’ posts on a daily basis. What’s the difference if it’s an online weblog or a telecommunications giant doing the censoring?
If you can explain this for me, then you either should get a job with this government or you already have a job with this government.
Great Quote at the Top of that Page……………….
“When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying the cross.” - Sinclair Lewis
Wow. Wow. Holy shit. Dear Lord, I hope we survive this administration. If a democrat does not win the white house next year, Canada here I come.
AT&T is just a subsidiary of the NSA. Censureship in their new mission.
What do you expect from a Giant Corp who sells your information to the government?
Yeah and will you drop your iPhone in protest? LOL
Orwell’s Illegitimate Son @ 3:
Mostly, I think the private censorship that takes place is to control threatening speech. If Rush Limbaugh says, “A democrat in the white house would be a disaster.” Then he should have every right to say it and not be censored. This story’s example doesn’t meet the criteria for what can be justified and prudent censoring. In my humble opinion. P.S. I work in the private sector.
Emmmmmm, Eddie…another on my long list of guys I’d like to bonk. Cute and politically active. A yummy combo.
AnnCoultersMoustache @ 8:
Exactly. If only we were so inclined and organized.
Pearl Jam is the coolest band -ever-.
strawberry @ 10:
My, my. I do declare. Such sexist comments have given me the vapors. Penifore, do fetch me a seltzer.
Another reason to never sign up with AT&T
or Verizon…
or Sprint…
ugh…
I like George Carlin’s quote better: when fascism comes to America, it’ll be wearing Nikes and a smiley face t-shirt.
And indeed it has.
PurplePatriot @ 9:
If Sean Hannity says, someone should take out Hillary Clinton, then that’s ok.
If Keith Olberman says that Bush is a despicable person, then that’s bad.
AnnCoultersMoustache @ 8:
Didn’t buy one. Wouldn’t buy one. I worked for those AT&T arsholes and as soon as I could get service from someone other than AT&T, I was there-even though it’s really 6-1 half a dozen to another with most of these corporation thingies.
“freedom isn’t free, there’s a hefty fuckin’ fee”
Team America, World Police……..Literally.
Our masters know what’s best for us, how dare
we to have free reign of our thoughts.
I love that sequence in ‘King of the Hill’ when Bobby wants to be “Eddie Cheddar” and then shreds some cheese on his guitar. Good stuff!
How dare Pearl Jam attempt to address the public.
It’s the public duty to address only the NSA.
I hope the government sanctioned record & book burnings begin in the winter; it’s too hot outside now.
PurplePatriot @ 13:
And don’t call Bush “Daughter”
Orwell’s Illegitimate Son @ 3:
censor or delete retarded garbage? granted I’m sure there is some illegitimate deleting (and I’ve always despised the “this is private INTERWEB property we’ll mess with your posts if we want” way of doing things) but sometimes it’s necessary.
Dumb asses at AT&T. Anti-Bush sells like hot cakes. Dick stiffener pharmaceuticals (thank god for spellcheck) now use “Impeach Bush” in their email spam. Duh!
This complete story should be forwarded to every member of Congress with the remarks that this is a demonstration of what everybody fears: the corporations are going to use an powers they are granted to stiffle free speech, to suppress unfavored speech, and by extension, to stiffle freedom of assembly.
Pearl Jam, in the meantime, needs to sue AT&T, for violating their civil rights and also for any business-related breaches, like failure to provide an agreed upon service: it is a cinch that they would not have been censored had they been singing a hymn to Bush.
In the meantime, I think anybody who is a customer of AT&T should stop doing business with them. AT&T is clearly an anti-American organization.

I’m waiting for A(assholes) T(times) & T(Two)
to claim is was ‘just an unfortunate technical glitch.
dear richie rich, i would slap your face for your stupid remark, but i don’t want to put my hand up your ass.
your remarks are just the same as the nazis used to quelle dissent. remember, the rights we lose so do you.
BTW it’s time to start a nationwide boycott of any company or corporation that
censors the American citizen’s right to dissent or comment on bush or any of his administration. let them know that this kind of illegal censorship will be very expensive to their financial bottom line.

According to the PJ site,
Right.

I think he left off the /sarcasm tag.
It goes beyond AT&FT censoring a concert they sponsored. They have EVERY right to do that. The problem is that they are one of the biggest proponents of abolishing net neutrality and what they really want is to be able to choke off ANYTHING on the net they or their masters in the GOP don’t like. Content you or I put up could be effectively cut off from AT&FT’s Internet.
The reason AT&FT is able to re-acquire their monopoly that the gubment broke up once is because of their agreement to give the NSA/GOP any and all info about their “customers” that they asked for.
Quid pro quo.
Boycotts are illegal under the Patriot Act.
AT&T: Bush World, Delivered.
Only six months left on my Cingular contract, and I’m Audi 5000 from there.
I betcha AT&T were afraid the dreaded BillO would come after them. Yep, I betcha that’s what it was. ;)
I took Richie Rich’s comment as sarcasm (#2). Maybe I’m wrong.
[Deleted. Get a clue, you are getting your knickers in a twist over a parody post]
What a feable and weak excuse offered by AT&T. Suggest we all click on the CMJ
website(under picture above) and when getting to that site, go to third para., clicking
on “their site” and fill out the form available to express your dissatisfaction w/ALL of
the Telecommunication Industry(which are slime bags and are in bed with this rouge
administration). Let someone hear your angry/opinion/views concerning this censorship
by AT&T.
[Deleted. The flamewar over a joke post is finished]
Of course I meant the comic book character.
I always wondered like Bart Simpson is if Richie Rich was Casper before he died.
And…as mentioned above, thousands sold out to AT&T for…..a gadget. A shiny piece of minor technology. (one that has less battery life than the average cell phone.) They stood in line for hours, unmindful of their ‘outrage’ against AT&T selling personal information to the Bush administration, just so they could overpay to get a shiny new toy. Suckers.
No wonder these politicians think so little of their constituents….how easily distracted they are from their liberties.
dadams @ 30:
good living in your cave and eating leaves
Anyone on this thread happen to know the email address of AT&T where a person
can register a complaint or otherwise contact AT&T to express an opinion???
Helloworld @ 24:
hello back atcha,
question: just out of curiousity, when do you deem it “necessary” for a mega-corp to decide when and what to censor? what other freedoms do you think it is acceptable for for-profit institutions to curtail?
and in regards to pearl jam and this censorship– i find it utter BS that at&t would claim that it was some strange glitch. right, some strange glitch that just happened to cut out the bush references. effin liars.
Eddie should have known that you can’t do that in America anymore. We live in a dictatorship.
Samson- @ 44:
You are right on and correct…we need to contact AT&T and give them our thoughts.
Anyone remember when the reich-wing MSM had a collective hissy fit a few years back because Eddie Vedder placed a rubber mask of herr dubyah on a microphone stand? They claimed Eddie “impaled” the president’s head with a microphone stand.
Dr. Matt @ 47:
Tepes Eddie?
Sounds like a Tepes in a teapot.
Dr. Matt @ 47:
Here’s a photo of what caused the fake reich-wing outrage.

Did some googling and found that Customer Dissatisfaction with AT&T can be registered at following:

Send them an email…..
