Petraeus Report will be written by the White House

Like we already didn’t know this. Many Generals are taking to the airwaves these days paving the yellow brick road, but somehow the cable newsies and the Wise old Men have missed this one:

Despite Bush’s repeated statements that the report will reflect evaluations by Petraeus and Ryan Crocker, the U.S. ambassador to Iraq, administration officials said it would actually be written by the White House, with inputs from officials throughout the government.

As in, “See the pet goat. It goes moo-moo.”?

4
ticktock Says:

Will it be written in crayon?

5
King of Mean Says:

Why even bother writing it? Why bother reading it? It’s just going to be a GLOWING report, that GW Bush is a military genius, and that the surge is working like a charm…

What a waste of time and money.

There only ONE REPORT that would be meaningful: If General Petraus will walk around Baghdad, ALONE, with NO Bullet-proof vest on, with NO SECURITY, no overhead helicopters, in other words ALONE, then I will believe the surge is working.

We don’t need any phony written reports… only a video report of him taking a stroll through the markets of Baghdad.

6
ticktock Says:

Is a sock puppet going to finalize it?

7
Bush Bites Says:

That’s probably why Rove left now.

He has to have that damn report over to “The Boss” by the end of the month.

and let me offer a prediction, if i may don my nostradamus cap:

when the “report” (see, goebbels-rag) comes out in september i am willing to bet the farm that this won’t be mentioned at all…

[ok, a helper-monkey could guess that too]

MikeinMD Says:

Not “will be written”. The correct tense is “was written 6 months ago”. How many generals do you think have to get fired before they catch on that the white house is always right? If 160,000 US troops can occupy/pacify 160 square miles of Iraq, then an additional 30,000 can occupy/pacify another 30 square miles. Just report on those 30 square miles. Unfortunately, Iraq is 171,000 sq miles. Spread that thin, all you’ve got is 190,000 targets.

11
CafeenMan Says:

It won’t be glowing. They’ll throw in the token, “war is hard and there have been and will be obstacles, but we’re making demonstratable progress… blah, blah” and of course they won’t have any “demonstratable progress” as evidence. They’ll just claim it’s happening. But they will throw in a few things that can be spun as “better” that nobody with an ounce of brains would consider progress.

“We’ve slowed down the destruction of pavement on way away from baghdad avenue. Proof that the surge is working!”

12
Ian Says:

we all already know what the report will say…

we are seeing progress
surge is working
Iraq needs to step up politically
support our troops
dems want to cut n’ run
and the most obvious…WE NEED MORE TIME

nothing new, and until January 2009, nothing will change…sorry to say so, but once GWB is in the White House and congress fails to produce MAJOR changes, NOTHING WILL CHANGE.

Just more headlines of the same. Be smart, vote in someone who is preaching/promising a change and will stop the chaos the admin has put this country into.

Simon White-Thatch Potentloins Says:

Well, I wouldn’t have guessed! I suppose an actual assessment of the situation would have been too detrimental to King George and he might sulk for weeks. Can’t have that.

This adminstration is pathetic. May the history books judge him for what he is: a disgrace.

14
Hofnar Says:

The last thing I would expect is for a Whitehouse (should we call it the Brownhouse or the Outhouse until W leaves?) so obsessed with control, spin and secrecy to revert to honesty in the face of undeniable failure.

W plans to stay the course and slime and sleaze his way out of any sort of admission that he is a failure. Fortunately, such an admission is really no longer necessary. Even the brain dead, limbaugh zombies are beginning to realize something is rotten in the state of Iraq.

So much for the Permanent Republican Majority.

15
Angry One Says:

As for the content of the looming report, anyone who has ever used the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet program knows what’s coming next. Americans should expect to see the old “Fill Right” trick. That is, when producing a long-term financial model or forecast, the Excel user in the absence of research, data, or just common sense, simply copies the value or formula from one cell (for, say, monthly or quarterly sales) to all the succeeding cells (months or quarters in ensuing years). The result is an impressive looking spreadsheet, but one whose projections are baseless and without foundation.

As the interim surge report made clear in July, President Bush like any failed CEO has been relying on the old fill-right gimmick since the Iraq war commenced. Starting in 2003, Bush simply selected the cell containing the phrase “We’re Making Progress” and filled right…

good point, but i’d like to revise your numbers a bit.

we have approx 160,000 troops in iraq, but how many “contractors” (see war profiteers) are there?

rhetorical question, no one really knows.

maybe 150,000? 175,000? 200,000? who knows, the war profiteers and mercenaries function w/o any oversight. which brings the total number of “troops” to something close to or above 300,000.

so, 30,000 is even less of a drop in the bucket. less of a “surge” and more of a deceptive way to keep the money flowing for the contractors, defense industry and oil companies under the guise of a “new strategy”….

and, again, the MSM, as a rule, NEVER discusses the for-profit army that uses their power and influence to establish perpetual war.

HAHAHAHAH, and some of you are worried about the a wave of imaginary Muslims taking of the America? lolo… damn gangsters in the white house literally spitting in our faces and ya’ll worried about 3000-5000 retards in a cave? hahah… If by chance they ever got here it will be to late anyway. The country is already allowing these fools to eat your bodies from the inside out. At this rate of decline, the middle class, the US dollar, infractstructure, education, health and the consititution, you might as well start looking at building your bunker to protect you from the fools all around you who will adopt what we see our leaders in this country do. See something you have and just take it. They will send your children to the hells of iraq foor the next 20 years or more. Those crazy Persians will NEVER give up and it will take about 20 years, around the same time it took tthe Sunni’s and the Europe to figure it out too..

Agree that there will be lots of mentions of IRAN in the fake report, maybe even blaming Pakistan too. But the one thing they WON’T accept any blame is GOING INTO IRAQ IN THE FIRST PLACE. They will never acknowledge in even the slightest way, that they made a BIG MISTAKE. These idiots have no ability to admit any wrong-doing. Ever.

This will allow Petreaus to give his report whenever he chooses, as it is already written.

the real ramifications of this anti-report is the disastrous effect it will have on the troops in iraq. there is no “strategy” in iraq, only a business plan.

Carmikl Says:

No commanding general is going to predict defeat or recommend retreat. Especially when that general has had his ego stroked as often and thoroughly as David Petraeus. So it really doesn’t matter who writes the report, the conclusions are predictable.

govt is so 19th century. forget “government”

think: corporations, those that buy and sell politicians and control policy. “govt” is just the front for corporations anymore.

41
Batocchio Says:

Not a shock at all, but as the O’Hanlon-Pollack shell game shows, this factor needs to be highlighted constantly. The MSM love a new story, even when it’s complete BS.

42
Jerry Says:

What does it matter who writes it? Bush’s yes-man Petraeus, the Ambassador to Iraq or the White House? It would still reflect the same propaganda. There is no agency or entity in the government that has not been politicized and contaminated by the WarPigs. What is amazing is that the WarPigs have been sending out his minions on a new round of ‘everything’s getting better…..really, really it is’ and then there are new bombings killing hundreds of people. Of course as usual Congress and the Senate do nothing as usual. Isn’t it wonderful how the chuckle-heads in D.C. think we are all that stupid?

43
Pawn Says:

The joys of propaganda and the dumbing down of America. Isn’t it shameful. Our fellow citizens are not only, for the most part, ignorant of the lies we all hear everyday, but they believe without question. What happened to a country that at one time stood for undeniable facts.

So now the masses will hear what they believe is an “objective” report from Pus-traeus, and step up their efforts to squash the nay-sayers. God bless us all to make it through to January 2009. May we all pray that the Iraqi’s don’t allow the privatization and rape of their oil fields. May we all pray that America doesn’t invade Pakistan and Iran before the devils in the White House are out the door. May we all pray that we find unity in confronting and bringing these murderous thieves to justice. Amen, and God Bless America!

For those interested in a psychological analysis of warmongering, I have recently completed a 10-minute online video entitled “Resisting the Drums of War.” It examines how the Bush administration has promoted the misguided and destructive war in Iraq by targeting five core concerns that often govern our lives–concerns about vulnerability, injustice, distrust, superiority, and helplessness. Looking ahead, the continuing occupation of Iraq–or an attack on Iran–will likely be sold to us in much the same way. The video examines these warmongering appeals and how to counter them. It’s available for viewing HERE.

Ok. So homosexual translators aren’t allowed to serve, but General Petraeus and the White House can force America to take it up the ass.

Their aim will be to make it truly accurate and precise without important ommissions.

Maybe Philip D. Zelikow can help.
He was a member (2001-2003) of the President’s Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board and served as executive director of the National Commission on Federal Election Reform and edited the final 911 commission report.

He would fit right in. He earned a law degree from the University of Houston Law Center in Texas.

Condoleezza Rice can have some input too. They can also get direction from the Aspen Strategy Group, a foreign-policy strategy body co-chaired by Rice’s mentor Scowcroft, along with Dick Cheney and Paul Wolfowitz.

Aspen Strategy Group is an “international non-profit organization dedicated to informed dialogue and inquiry on issues of global concern.” –> and arms control issues.

Mr. Pelicano Says:

Divine Oracle to Bush: “If you go to war with Iraq you will destroy a great empire.”

Petraeus to Bush: “One more ‘victory’ like this one (”The Surge”) and we’re done for.”

Ultimately, GAO Comptroller David Walker put it best: “The U.S. government is on a burning platform of unsustainable policies and practices with fiscal deficits, chronic healthcare underfunding, immigration and overseas military commitments threatening a crisis if action is not taken soon.” (http://www.ft.com/cms/s/80fa0a2c-11dc-9ffe-0000779fd2ac.html)

So, Mr. Bush, go ahead and attack Iran, then watch while the whole thing collapses around you.

49
Blue Buddha Says:

Bush ignoring his military commanders, just like Hitler ignored his military commanders in the final years of WWII. It’s bad when he can’t even accept the most optimistic scenario from the Pentagon.

50
Carmikl Says:

What’s really strange is how the media folks keep talking about how they are eagerly awaiting General Petraeus’ report next month. Every news organization has it’s own folks on the ground who see whets happening in Iraq on a daily basis. They should know what’s happening. They shouldn’t need to wait for David Petraeus to tell them what’s happening. After Petraeus makes his speech every member of the media will act with faux astonishment at much of what says like it’s the first time they’ve heard it.
