Lieberman breaks with reality — again

Joe Lieberman’s office issued a press release yesterday morning, which Lieberman’s office billed as a “response to recent Congressional attacks on the Iraqi government”:

“Forced by facts on the ground to acknowledge the progress of the American and Iraqi militaries since the new surge strategy started, some of these opponents of the war are now turning their harshest criticism on our allies in Iraq instead of our enemies. This is a mistake.…Political progress in Iraq depends on this kind of steady statecraft and patient diplomacy on the ground in Baghdad, rather than scapegoating and congressionally-ordered coups.

“We have made enormous progress in defending and advancing America’s vital national interests in Iraq over the past six months against our two deadliest enemies in the world—-al Qaeda and Iran. Realism requires that we recognize these gains, not dismiss or disparage them–and that we distinguish between our allies in Iraq, and our enemies.”

If only ol’ Joe had waited a few hours, until after the new NIE was released, he wouldn’t look quite so ridiculous.

And to think that this fool — but for Pat Buchanan’s presidential run and the confusing Florida ballot — would have been Vice President.

Is it possible to be this stupid and get elected to the Senate. Dumb question.

I am convinced at this point that this guy is either becoming lost in dementia (a sad thing) or that he is the antiChrist. Maybe both.

4
GoodGod Says:

Joe is ridiculous. I’m in CT and voting for him for Senator (in 2000, when he was also running for VP) was the vote that I most regret in my lifetime. He’s truly not representing Connecticut any longer. He’s lost his moral compass.

5
Indigowatcher Says:

Did the men who make up the Iraqi government ASK the US to bomb their country to shit? Let’s not forget that the United States owns this war, and we shouldn’t be trying to push the blame for this war off on the victims of our aggression.

6
GoodGod Says:

I did NOT vote for him in 2006…that was primarily Repugs who pushed him past Lamont.

7
Anonymal Says:

Well, it looks like ol’ Pruneface continues his delusions.

Senility was made legitimate in government by Ronnie Raygun.

LIEberman is the natural progression.

Ever the opportunists that they are, the Bushistas will probably attempt to use the NIE findings to justify deposing Al-Maliki and installing their hot swappable, plug-and-play puppet government V 3.0. Then they’ll say that real progress is being made. Toward what I don’t know.

We are making great progress against our two deadliest enemies, Al Qaida and Iran by fighting in Iraq? Huh???? Al Qaida is regrouping in the border region of Pakistan and Iran is, well, next door to Iraq laughing their collective ass off. Hasn’t he noticed how Iran has pushed for increasing influence as a rresult of Sadam’s downfall?

I seriously think Lieberman is losing his mental faculties. I used to think he was a power hungry, vindictive little jerk. But now I’m really starting to think he’s a donut short of a dozen.

Why not? It’s possible to be stupid and be elected President.

I bet even the republicans won’t claim him now. He and McCain both appear at times to be desperate for someones affection, I’m just not sure who they are pandering to. Joe seems to yank thoughts straight from his ass and McCain seems to yank his thoughts straight from bush’s ass.

If joe were running for some office now, his campaign manager would become a very heavy drinker.

The only good thing about Al Gore not becoming President in 2000 is that we did not have to endure Joe Lieberman for Vice President.

This “The surge is working meme” is so transparent. Just part of the new 15 million dollar pro war propoganda that is now being unfurled. Isn’t there some mechanism that allows the party to throw this bastard out or at least not allow him to have a D next to his name?

the headline here is wrong…lieberman breaks with reality again.
that assumes that he has been in touch with reality and many of us know that that has not been the case for a very long time.
tnaks again to all the confused and repube voters in his home state. i hope you are being well served by this bushie.

24
Yay! Says:

Well crafted post. Succinct and effective.

separately, my opinion: Lieberman is a horrible person, enthusiastic warmonger, and a sociopath who doesn’t feel for a single wounded soldier or dead soldier’s family. Al Gore should be ashamed of himself for picking this piece of garbage in 2000. As another poster once said, the silver lining in the disastrous results of the 2000 election is that Lieberman didn’t become vice president.

Joe Lieberman needs a memo sent to him about the reality of the situation. That Iraqi Government, from what I hear has no Sunnis involved in it. They walked out. How about that for a dose of realism Mr. Lieberman.

27
Radically Moderate Says:

Yeah, Okay Joe, Let us all sit on our hands and wait for Gen Patraeus (White House) progress report. However, realistically, as a tax payer I want to know what will be occuring in Iraq 3-6-9 months 1-2 years after the surge. I want to hear the words draw down used as
a verb rather than a metaphor. Real progress can only be measured by our departure from Iraq.
As far as Congressional coup, why is it bad to call for Maliki to resign, and okay for the White House to preasure the Iraq Government into signing away their oil rights to private oil companies? Do you agree that it should be their choice?

28
Joementum Says:

Just a little bookkeeping on Joe’s part — he’s zeroing out his credibility account.

I’m just so completely sick of this whole mess. Everyone trying to spin the truth for their own cause which is of course politically based. How about we look at Iraq for what it really is. It’s the result of a crime committed on that country by our own country. We tore the place to shreds and no one knows how to put it together again. We can’t do it because we are the very cause of the conditions we see there today. I think the Iraqis probably have a better idea of what they want and how they want to live than we do. Why not give them a chance and get the hell out of their way.

I didn’t used to believe that, but now I’m close to agreeing.

I notice the propogandists are back to the tired old “cut and run” line, repeated over, and over, and over ,ad naseum.
In the words of Bush, “You gotta kinda launch the propoganda out there”.
Please, somebody break out the anti-bullshit spray.

1. Bush says he supports the Maliki government, BUT says it must change or the Iraqi people will force change. Maliki and Assembly oppose the oil bill Bush wants, which would take oil profits out of Iraq and give majority of profits to US companies.

2. the Bush administration quietly supports and encourages a military coup (impossible without US support, since we say they are incapable of fighting now - that’s why they need us….umm, who will actually lead the coup, then?)

3. coup happens, Maliki killed and Assembly replaced by a military council. Bush says that the coup was the will of the people.

4. Bush says that with a military government in place, and elections delayed, this is one more reason we need to “stay the course” and remain in Iraq.

5. Bush accuses Iran of supporting those who resist the coup.

6. Bush welcomes the new military strongman to Washington and hails progress in Iraq. the New Saddam

I spoke to a friend yesterday and found out that her son, who joined the army because there are no jobs, has three purple hearts, a bullet AND shrapnel in his leg along with post-traumatic stress. Currently, the army has him scheduled to see a doctor to determine if he’s fit for duty. He’s done four tours already. I can’t express my outrage in a civil tone anymore. It’s too hard to contain. It may not be personal to some here, but it’s personal to me. This madness has to stop.

Please, somebody, ANYbody, please tell me why we keep having to read all these great things about Mr. Obama when he was the most outspoken SUPPORTER of Mr. Lieberman during the primary against Mr. Lamont? He has never been called on that by the progressive bloggers who just keep posting wonderful things about him, somehow forgetting how he was at least partially responsible for Lieberman retaining his senate seat by rallying his base and giving Joe the support he needed to run as an “independent”. Only after losing the primary and being scared by the ramifications of supporting a loser did Obama lightly endorse Lamont in the general election. This is the same tactic he used in his vote on the Iraq supplemental–he waited to be sure it was going to pass before he cast his safe NO vote. How in the world can we trust someone who behaves this way? If you like Joe Lieberman, you’ll love Barack Obama. Neither are to be trusted

He just won’t let Hillary make a bigger ass of herself than he can of himself. He has threatened to nuke Iran, attack Pakistan and he has two advisors from the Lieberman camp.

So damned frustrated with all the noise we hear and seeing no positive action. I don’t know when or how this is going to end but in my opinion it’s already much too late.

Lieberman does not represent CT. He represents Tel Aviv.

He and William the Bloody are reading from the same script. Kristol said much the same thing on the Today Show when Lauer asked for evidence the surge is working. Of course, lauer never scratched his head and said, “Because you say we’re making progress, that’s evidence the surge is working?”

Then again, Matt may have been focused on the HUGE Nicole Richie/Lindsey Lohan story.
