Disgraced Ex-Congressman Tom Delay Talks About Disgraced Senator Larry Craig

hardball-delay-craig.jpg Former Republican Congressman and poster child for government corruption Tom Delay appeared on Hardball today to talk with Chris Matthews about the Larry Craig sex scandal. I knew this was going to be bad when Matthews introduced him as Mr. Leader. Matthews has a strange fascination with Delay and allows him an extraordinary amount of time to rehash every scandal to involve a Democrat in the past twenty years while denying the stench of hypocrisy that emanates from the Republican Party. Delay’s basic argument is that Republicans deal with their bad apples while the Democrats rally behind theirs and re-elect them. Try not to laugh too loud or throw anything breakable…tear it up in the comments…

Why Matthews and MSNBC continues to let garbage like Tom Delay darken their network is beyond me. On the other hand, if you’re looking for an expert on corruption, scandals and disgraced members of Congress, Tom Delay is your Huckleberry. What’s next, Mark Foley hosting an episode of To Catch A Predator?

Delay can suck my left one, but that’s not why I’m here. I’m looking for a link to the C-130 carrying senators into Iraq that was fired on. Anybody else with linky skills could you send it to John? I wanna hear those lying repug scum say the surge is working with the fuge still drying in their shorts. There’s a diary at daily Kos, but nothing on MSM.

Sorry, can’t think of a worse use of my time than to watch this.

In fact, this kind of thing is the reason I don’t watch television.

Shouldn’t Delay be serving time in a state correctional facility by now?

OMG, there’s that liberal media doing it again, letting criminals be on the tee-vee as long as they’re Republicans. Oh wait…

Matthews is the one who needs to be banned from MSNBC. His choice of guests is a dead giveaway of his bias. Any host who treats DeLay as an elder statesman is a neocon in men’s clothing.

Why don’t they replace him with David Shuster? I think he would actually play Hardball with both party’s fools.

Cowboy Bob in Austin Says:

Tom Delay is the SLIMIEST god-damned political hack of our time.

TWEETY loses credibility every time he puts Delay on the screen… and tonight it was for more than FIFTEEN MINUTES… with a bitch-fest over Democrats! It played like an episode of BIZZARRO-WORLD.

Ane TWEETY wonders why he isn’t asked to host Press The MEAT?

18
Fed Up Says:

Give Tweety credit that he did persist in trying to pin Delay on the culture of corruption that is the Repuke party these days. But Tom being true to form dodged the question and brought up Clinton and Kennedy.

Tom looks more pathetic with each passing attempt to justify this BS. When does he get a trial date set anyway?

19
paranoia Says:

Mark Foley was out only after a Democrat realize that the Republican look the other way for years on his behavior.

Ted Kennedy came clean and out of what he did and ask for forgiveness and let the voter decide to vote for him back in office. If that goes along with confess and own up to the incident.

Chris a liberal? LOL……………………………..ROTFLMAO

Yeah they lost a bunch of talents in the animation dept. Perhaps there will be “Dreamwork2″ company in the works. Just saw a plea for the position to fill in the animation dept. I am in the animation biz, and for Disney to advertise help, is not a very good sign. People use to wait to get in Disney studio.

spirak Says:

Matt Lauer also interviewed Delay on the Today show this morning. Same garbage from the mouth of Delay, except Delay seemed to get Lauer hot under the collar when Delay kept talking about the double standards of the media in that the media will go after Republican ethical lapses and ignore the Democratic ethical lapses. I especially liked the comments by Delay on the Republicans clean up their act while the Democrats reelect their criminals. Like when the Republican lead House tried to change to rules to allow the Speaker of the House to remain speaker even if under indictment. Why do they keep giving these disgraced idiots a platform?

churl Says:

“Tom Delay is your Huckleberry”
“Whoa, Larry Craig, you look like someone just walked over your grave.”

“He’s an outlaw, a bad boy, a man’s man…he gives Tweety a stiffer”
Tom’s “a dirty nasty boy” who never changed the water in his hot tub or was that the Dukestir?

23
Samck_dab Says:

I first thought that with the pressure to resign that Craig would do so pretty quickly but I’d bet that behind the scenes the Repugs are going to tell Craig to tough it out for at least a few more weeks as Craig’s scandal is a safe one; it doesn’t go anywhere else, it’ll be a total nothing a year from now, and it keeps the real scandals, the ones being done by Bush/Cheney, out of the limelight.

24
eLMel Says:

What DeLay is best at is convincing himself that he’s honest and intelligent by searching history and saying “Well they did it tooooo!” instead of EVER answering a direct question—and always with a phoney smile. He could be one of the worst, and should never be given air time–unless they are just looking for someone to provoke interest, and anger.

25
david Says:

sorry just cant watch delay - he lies too much and distorts reality. cant do it.

26
Dan Says:

the Dems are letting one slip away here… I have yet to hear the big shout - “WHAT ABOUT VITTER?”

Craig did something tacky and sad in my opinion… but Vitter admitted to hiring a prostitute and engaging in some rather questionable shenanigans… why is Vitter still at leberty?…

Craig = misdemeanor, Vitter = felony… the chance to pummel the GOP ‘family values’ and ‘rank hypocrisy’ angles have rarely been better…

“Why Matthews and MSNBC continues to let garbage like Tom Delay darken their network is beyond me.”

why the small percentage of squeaky-wheel wingnuts, crooks and liars get such disproportionate airtime simply disgusts me because it’s nothing more than a strategy for maximizing viewership by creating controversy when there would otherwise be none… these idiots should simply be relegated to their respective loony-bins so that true news and issues could be covered in-depth and with insight… this pandering to the lowest common denominator is what keeps the public dumb… if one isn’t insulted by the seemingly endless repetition of the inane and the over-stuffing of intellectual pabulum, then they should re-check their paradigms and preconceptions… (especially those that didn’t understand that last statement)…

I guess Delay doesn’t get the fact that he is only on because, as a disgrace himself, he might have some valuable “disgrace perspective” to offer. Which is not to say Craig is a disgrace for being gay and on the down low, he is a disgrace for his treatment of gay people, some of which he may have made sweet love to in the airport restrooms throughout our great land.

7) “A woman can take care of the family. It takes a man to provide structure. To provide stability. Not that a woman can’t provide stability, I’m not saying that… It does take a father, though.” -Tom DeLay, in a radio interview, Feb. 10, 2004 (Source)

eLMel Says:

Having DeLay on to say “anything” is like having OJ Simpson on to say “anything.” It just gives them credibility when they deserve nothing! Naive, simple, people will actually begin to listen to them again and they shouldn’t be allowed to influence anyone–particularly if they vote!

39
lewisnclark Says:

Uh, excuse me but wasn’t Tom DeLay indicted on conspiracy charges for accepting illegal campaign donations by a Texas Grand Jury? Didn’t he take gifts from Jack Abramoff?

WTF is he doing as a serious guest on Hardball opining on corruption in Congress!?!?

Is this supposed to be some sort of high irony? If you wanna get your ratings out of the gutter, Chris Matthews, I suggest you get real and quit booking vermin like Tom Delay.

40
OxyCon Says:

Gary “I screwed my secretary” Bauer was on “Hardball” yesterday doing the same thing.
It’s really funny how low the Repubs have fallen. They were so much better than everyone else before, but now they strive just to have Bush be almost as good as Clinton. And now they are striving to be just like the Democrats, who they have been bashing for the last 30 years as being a bunch of degenerates.

41
Jason Says:

DeLay kept saying “if he’s guilty” and “if it’s true”, over and over, as if there were only unsubstantiated rumors about Senator Craig. Why didn’t Matthew interject even once to remind DeLay and viewers that the Senator has already plead guilty. So there is no question of his guilt or innocence here, and this time no one can even blame it on a “liberal judge” or “liberal DA” like DeLay has done in his own situation.

I guess this is our “liberal” media at work folks!

42
Karl Bauer Says:

Every now and again, Matthews actually does his job. This interview was pretty good.

Kudos for bringing up Gingrich’s affair, which coincided with the FORTY MILLION DOLLAR Bill Clinton blow job trial.

Gingrich’s hypocrisy’s still not QUITE common knowledge, but it’s getting to be.

So, thanks, Tweety.

43
Old Billy Says:

WTF!

How can Matthews let Delay on to talk about criminal republicans and not ever bring up that Delay is facing criminal charges himself? To hear Delay talking about Christian forgiveness is like driving a meat thermometer through my ear-drum.

This is absolute bullshit that NBC allows this kind of crap to be aired. There was so much misinformation and half-truths in this segment it should be embarrassing to anyone at NBC who cares about journalism.

44
GreyGhost Says:

Simple solution… BOYCOTT TWEETY. I do.

45
Time Lags Says:

I loved this. Poor Matthews, he’s completely debased himself to prove that he’s “fair” to these right-wing extremists, and then Delay turns around and calls him a “liberal”. You can almost hear Matthews heart break. “Your a fair liberal”.

Matthews rushes to his own defense as a card carrying right winger by talking about what an attack dog he was against Clinton, and Delay practically pats him on the head. “Sure sure, of course. You’re not the WORST liberal out there, you’re a good boy. You’re a kinda fair liberal.”

So in the end, you’re really sort of…..nothing. Progressives despise you, and they won’t admit you to the swaggering righty club, even after you’ve carried water for them for years. Ouch.

You gotta get the interview with Matt on the Today show this morning. It was amazing - Delay had to be reminded why he was there - to talk about Republicans, not bash Democrats, and off he went.

49
King of Mean Says:

First of all, as a homo, with pretty good gaydar, I can ASSURE YOU that Tom Delay is the biggest queen on the planet… Puh-leese… look at the eyes…

And basically this is what Tom Delay is saying: “Unless you can come up with a video tape of the actual sex act, I believe my Republican friend is INNOCENT, and it’s all the Democrat’s fault that he’s closeted and gay”.

50
pinkobait Says:

Yes Tom,the “Democrat Party” doesn’t have any morals. You can say that with such conviction because you are a man of real Christian values. The kind of man that steals money from his business partner to pay off campaign debts. That supports the idea of illegal sweat shops and forced abortions.
