Just take a look at the last photo of Mr Jewel and you know the media had nothing to do with it. He had “natural causes” written all over him.
Poor guy did go through a hell of an ordeal. That would probably shorten anyone’s life span.

Ehew. Those comments from the pro Drudgers were…interesting. One said that Drudge gets more hits in one day than all liberal blogs combined. Hmm. How can we get Drudges numbers without actually linking to the mook’s site?
Matt Sludge is the biggest gossip out there. He repeats anything as long as he thinks he’s the first to make it public. If he was around back then, he would have been the one to break this ’story’.
Richard Jewell was a hero. He did the right thing when he could have easily looked the other way and like so many who do the right thing, he was slimed for it.

I guess after “blame the media” worked so well for Senator Craig this week that Drudge figured he would use it too, and he’ll probably have the same results that Craig had, none.

It’s funny that you said that, Drudge seems to have this rapid response hit squad, that trolls the left wing blogs. Remember the McCain/Ware/Drudge/heckling fiasco? None of the media outlets seem to want to remind the public that the FBI tried to trick Richard Jewell into signing a false confession. It’s like our collective consciousness wants to forget that the FBI would do such a thing. Heavens, that might make someone question the techniques being used today to extract confessions. Somehow it’s unpatriotic to remind people that the FBI has a history of such trickery.

urse, the relentless, evidence-free investigation by the fbi and their constant ‘news conferencing’ had nothing to do with anything, right. Drudge may be schitt, but I don’t recall much of the media asking for tangible evidence. as I recall, they were more like ambulance chasers.
The Drudge Report is like reaching the end of the check out counter and being inundated with copies of The Enquirer, the Globe, and other crap about space aliens found in the belly of the Sphinx.

While I don’t think the stress of this reckless pursuit of news celebrity caused all of his problems, there’s no doubt in my mind that it was a major contributor. All because reporters (once again) raced to grab gossip headlines.
