Boehner: U.S. Soldiers’ Blood A “Small Price” To Pay In Iraq

(h/t Scarce for video)

TPM captured this video from yesterday’s Situation Room on CNN, where Republican House Minority Leader John Boehner makes the stunning statement that the blood of American troops in Iraq is a “small price” to pay for the long term goals in the Middle East. I can assure the Republican Congressman, the tens of thousands of family members whose loved ones have spilled their blood in Iraq, whether dead or horrifically wounded in this tragedy, would not agree with that assessment — and it’s a safe bet the millions of Iraqis who have watched their family members being slaughtered and their country demolished would take exception as well.

John Kerry responds to Boehner’s incredibly callous statement.

UPDATEHoward Dean demands an apology from Boehner

I’ll say it first: His own blood or that of his kin is, of course, way too large a price to pay. Or that of the 5 Romney brothers. Etc.

The Repubs are really showing their true colors now.

Threaten Bush’s vanity war, and they’re ready to throw any soldier they can find under the bus.

So much for the party that “supports the troops.”

Cobalt60 Says:

So is he going to sacrifice HIS children?

How about all those College Republicans? Are THEY going to throw themselves on their swords for their leader’s glorious legacy?

Of course not, because neocons, be they rich politicians or dumb-ass rednecks, all have one thing in common: they are puss*es who like to talk tough but run and hide when the fight breaks out.

This confirms what I have always suspected, rhetoric aside, the Neocons regard the troops as disposable peasants.

I agree, except that the “throwing under the bus” analogy doesn’t result in the wholesale slaughter of people.

I could make a personal remark about this obscene man named John Boehner, but won’t. We are paying a staggering price, both in terms of bloodshed and taxpayer money…so staggering that few of us truly comprehend the enormity of it all.

Iraq is the largest heist in the history of the United States.

Whoever voted for this pr*ck should be drafted and sent into combat in Iraq.

They don’t give a shit what they say now. The 2008 election (IF there is one) is OVER.

The landslide will be so big, that the Republicans will not recover for 20 years. AND if they try to steal the election again, the outcry over the result will be so big that the country will be thrown into crisis.

A career ender? Dunno, ought to be… But given the troglodytes who voted for Boehner in the first place….. Hard to tell anymore…. With people like this guy runnin things, hard to tell where where any of us are going to end up these days……Other than this cliff Bush has driven the nation off of.. Off into the bottom of some deep dark chasm with craggy rocks at bottom………JD

test….Can I post at all???? JD

I sent in a link to a news article yesterday in which the soldiers on the front in Iraq invited the Congress to come over like the press and be embedded with them on the lines. It would make a great piece to have on here, but the C&L people apparently didn’t think it worthy.
Too bad, I’m sure there would have been many who would want to comment on such an article.

Here is the link to that story on CNN

More than one million people have been slaughtered so far. I believe at least a million more will be slaughtered before we’re done. If the plan to stay until the oil is gone works out, then maybe ten million people will die as Iraq is emptied through carnage and exodus.

And we’ll leave behind millions of tons of depleted uranium in order to make Iraq a polluted and dangerous place for billions of years. People, animals and plants will suffer horrible mutations from the chemical damage alone, that this heavy metal does to DNA.

I don’t know what the prize will be for winning, but I can’t think of one that makes all of this worth it.

What is the prize we get for completely destroying a nation?

He has a point, actually. We killed 40,000+ Iraqi soldiers in the last three days of the First Gulf War. Bombed ‘em to death from miles away when they were retreating from Kuwait. I think the corresponding Coalition casualties were something like 30.

Given the death we’ve been dealing in the region, a couple thousand lives really is a small price to pay.

We get the pleasure of GW Bush diddling away in Texas with his millions, and using his government pension for cab and tip money.

Boehner should resign immediately.

But before that, he should be forced to meet with, and apologize to, the families of kids from his state that have been killed in Iraq. Those families can decide what to do to him.

One thing that really hit home during the Generals hearings this week was the glee that the majority of rethug reps and The Party of Joe seemed to express at the prospect of extending the war indefinately.

And this guy has the gall to “weep’ for the soldiers then say this ? Is it any wonder why politicians are so hated.

Also…they always use the saying blood and treasure now,,,,we see the blood but what exactly is the treasure ?

We are all sleep walking through another shower of Chicken Hawk War Mongering bullshit: Wake up!.

Remember when the MSM got suckered into pushing the WMD Iraq war excuse.

Well folks; The MSM have not learned a damn thing. They are still as gullible as ever. They are reporting that Bush has accepted a thirty thousand troop reduction in Iraq, as recommended by Petraeus. That is total bullshit on all counts. Here is the truth.

Petraeus/Bush are not agreeing to that. They both say that they will need the Surge level in order to reduce the violence in Iraq, and if that succeeds, then they will reduce the Surge figures to 130,000. In other words, go back to the level that was there before the 2006 elections. Now here is what the MSM, and frankly most of the Blogs, are missing. Petraeus and Bush are both saying that if the Surge does not work, then they will not withdraw the 30,000. In other words, they are saying: If the Surge fails, then we are going to keep the full Surge level of Troops in Iraq. That is what they are saying.

Wake the hell up, and shout the real truth from the roof tops.

Kudos to Boehner for finally openly stating what we known all along. Republicans don’t care about anyone but themselves and their ‘base’, aka rich people. Republicans view themselves as the rightful ruling elite and the rest of us are good for little more than cannon fodder. I hope whoever runs against Boehner in 2008 has the smarts to play that to his district.

If a Democratic politician had said that, the Repugs would be calling for his resignation by now.

“Saddam has weapons of mass destruction.”

“mushroom clouds”

“6 months”

“the war will be funded from the oil revenues”

This one however is reprehensible. Why OH WHY does this Boener hate the troops?

43
seagull.girl Says:

Here’s the actual statement:

BLITZER: How much longer will U.S. taxpayers have to shell out $2 billion a week or $3 billion a week as some now are suggesting the cost is going to endure? The loss in blood, the Americans who are killed every month, how much longer do you think this commitment, this military commitment is going to require?

BOEHNER: I think General Petraeus outlined it pretty clearly. We’re making success. We need to firm up those successes. We need to continue our effort here because, Wolf, long term, the investment that we’re making today will be a small price if we’re able to stop al Qaeda here, if we’re able to stabilize the Middle East, it’s not only going to be a small price for the near future, but think about the future for our kids and their kids.

I think that all Rep. Boehner heard Wolf Blitzer say was “$2-3 billion a week”, not the “loss in blood”. Because, we all know that Congress supports the troops.

44

This guy is a disgusting hack. “small price to pay”..indeed. Wonder if the propaganda network will beat this statement to death as it’s done over and over to Democrats?

Talk long enough you Nazi’s and the truth will eventually slip out. What a bunch of f*cking morons.

Hold on America…..the draft is coming….and watch the public wake up and scream when they have a Democratic President trying to close this disgusting mess. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if this is the idea behind keeping this mess going…so the Democrats can be made to look inept and at a loss.
