Listening to Chrissy, you can understand why there has been no oversight of the Bush administration while the Republicans held Congress. Waxman slams him and Blackwater at the end of the clip. Frightening.
The only thing reich-wingers have accomplished is to keep our troops in harms way in a war based on lies.
Shut Republicans up by asking them to name one specific thing that has not been provided to the troops. (lack of slobbering loyalty to Bush doesn’t count) I’ve found this shuts them up real quick because there is nothing they can name. They just have the noise of their talk radio to comfort them. Everything to fight the war has been provided, everything Bush has asked for and then some.
In Chris Shays world I guess an illegal invasion and occupation of another country doesn’t count as “foreign intervention”. What a strange trip it must be to live in Shays world.
Anyone else think he’s just embarrassed that actual oversight is coming form the committee that he used to chair when we went into Iraq?
I just can’t get over the outrageous and ridiculous things both Republicans and Democrats say these days. Is it all about getting media exposure? Nobody’s as stupid and ill-informed as the politicians and various commentators pretend to be. Our society has turned into a giant Jerry Springer Show episode. I’m not sure if it’s more sad or disgusting, but I’m just sick of it…

John Amato is certainly right. Shays is quick to come to the defense of Blackwater, stating that not one diplomat has been killed under their protection. What he conveniently neglects to mention is that 17 Iraqis were killed and 25 wounded when Blackwater indiscriminately mowed them down about six weeks ago. Waxman would have been better served if he had mentioned this atrocity alongside the Iraqi who was killed by the drunken member of Blackwater. Perhaps Waxman did not mention it because those shootings are currently under investigation, which appears to be a way for the military to exonerate Blackwater and discredit the eyewitnesses who witnessed the American mercenaries firing upon those innocent unarmed civilians. Perhaps the thinking is that since the witnesses were Iraqi, then surely their word cannot be trusted as compared to the [not so] credible word of an American. Another example of American Exceptionalism rearing its ugly head.
I don’t think this clown or Lieberman will be re-elected in Connecticut, so I hope they enjoy being King Dopey’s lap dogs while they can…Matt in New Haven

I actually heard Shays make the comment on C-SPAN. What a freekin’ putz. His comment was so idiotic. The irony of the part about foreign intervention was lost on him. I’m surprised no one has taken this dimwit aside and told him that there is no military solution in Iraq, and therefore our soldiers can’t “win it”?

Let’s see, if there were less corruption it would seem that we’d have more money. This would help us to properly equip our troops and take care of wounded veterans and their families. Instead of having to protect the Iraqis from their own corrupt (anybody remeber the old anti-drug ad “I learned it from watching YOU Dad!”)government, we could deal with people who care about all Iraqis and their country while changing our mission to a peacekeeping role. It wouldn’t be a complete withdrawal, but it’d be a damn fine place to start. The Dems need to highlight the difference between their way of supporting the troops and how those other guys go about it.

It seems that the Republicans get offended when the Democrats make statements about that war. When is he going to apologize to the Democrats for his comments?
Shays is dangerous, he’s dangerous for the children of Iraq and Iran, he’s dangerous for Americans, clear headed Americans must do everthing they can to throw this guy out and keep him out of power. He has no respect for morality, human life, human rights he is obviously a boot licker to Cheney, Bush and the oil corporations.
The problem never has been what the soldiers do or do not do in Iraq. The problem has, from day one, been the policies of the Bush Administration. You could give the troops all of the weapons on earth, all of the support they need, continue to send them tons of candy and wave the flag until it breaks off the pole and it will make little difference. If the policies and goals the Bush Administration handed down the troops to carry out are flawed (and they are) or wrong then Iraq will fail.
And can we ask what this Republican administration has done after 7 years of being incharge to help our troops both in Iraq and at home?? There’s a laundry list of how they screwed things up pretty bad.
Where does this asshole get the idea that the Iraqis wants us there? It bears repeating over and over to these idiots in Congress, that over 90% of Iraqis wants us out of their country.

Every good repug knows there is no such thing as an unarmed Iraqi and the only good Iraqi is one with a blackwater bullet in his head. Bullets we pay 1000 times the market price for.
Questioning the corruption in Iraq only endangers our troops more. Because if we find that 90% of the money we have sent to “rebuild” Iraq has been stolen and squandered by US contractors, then the US people might not want to continue the war. They may want the war run on a not-for-profit basis at which point we would have to end it immediately. No point in killing innocent people if you can’t make money at it.
