Vote For Blackwater’s New Logo

Wired Magazine: (h/t MS)

Blackwater is remaking its image — starting with its logo. So we figured we’d give ‘em a hand. DANGER ROOM readers Rocky, Jacob, and Chris put together some pretty sweet new logos for the besieged private military company. Vote for which one you like best, and we’ll be sure to pass it on to the Watery ones. Or, if you’ve got an idea for a new Blackwater brand, send it in, and we’ll put it in the running submit it below.

There’s some classics, but this one might be my favorite:

I mean, c’mon, how can you not trust a company with puppies and rainbows?

So the logo up top is their current logo?

Does anyone visualize a bunch of hormonally-charged 12-year-olds stenciling that on their clubhouses? I mean, that is really all these guys are, is a bunch of out-of-control kids who have been given government money and immunity from prosecution — whoops! And guns.

Nothing too drastic, I know how attached people can get to a logo.

Remember Attack of the Killer clowns anyone? Ya know, they looked all nice nice happy happy too……Until ya got up close…

Seems like that kind of logo attached to a merc company or even to be rediculously charitable, ‘a private security company’
would consitute some kind of false advertising to me…..

IF nothing else, kind of tarnishes the reputation of little puppies, hearts and rainbows…JD

How about an oil barrel with the bear claw on it,the barrel painted the same green as the US dollar?

Puppies and rainbows? Don’t rainbows mean that Blackwater is gay?

Recall that both the Schutzstaffel (S.S. or Black Shirts) and the Sturmabteilung (S.A., storm troops or Brown Shirts) were private armies owned by the Nazi party - not the German state.

And recall that both private armies were financed by Friedrich Flick, in partnership with Prescott Bush and George Herbert Walker.

Only the names and dates have changed - not their methods.

I like it, and think it would be tons more current if you replaced the swastikas with American flags and eagles. (Don’t forget a flag lapel pin ;) ) I coud also just mind my own business and commend you for your effot. (I wouldn’t have a clue how to do anything like that, so I can only suggest to others– dinosaur here.) OK. Forget I spoke. Good job!!!

hubcap halo Says:

As an ad man myself, I would say that puppies and rainbows don’t immediately convey the core company mission: “we kill people for money.”

If they want to go away from the bear claw to someting more, well, smurferific—why not a unicorn with an Iraqi child impaled on it’s one horn (and a rainbow in the background)?

If I were meeting with client on this one I would suggest that. It still says “we murder freely” but it adds a kind of “my little pony” vibe that will endear the company to Soccer Moms.

I only play at doing these things, so cropping Erik Prince’s face into that pic was a lot of work for me. When I do these little efforts it sure gives me a great appreciation for the incredible work that Dood Abides and others do. I picked the picture specifically for the reasons that MountainMan23 mentioned in comment #20:

My wife said she thought the picture was offensive. I agree. That is why I chose this honest comparison.

Ix-nay on the puppies.

If you bring in puppies when the subject is Blackwater, the association it would bring to mind would be Blackwater employees swerving to run over the puppies as they careen through Baghdad, or the CEO of Blackwater eating puppies for breakfast. Image management can accomplish a lot, but when the client already has a certain reputation, you have to take baby steps, and puppies is way too big a leap.

I foresee a logo consisting of:

-the colors red, white and perhaps blue
-perhaps some motif consisting of stripes or bars
-perhaps further graphical use to stars

I don’t know what makes me think this company would attempt to link themselves with this particular imagery when the public perception of them is in the toilet after they’ve murdered 17 innocent people (that we know of). Call me crazy…

I like the Dogs, Hearts, and Rainbows design, but shouldn’t the name Blackwater be changed too? Oh, Black Hand, Black Hole, Toilet Bowl, something like that, come to mind.

Since we’re making changes to the logo, how about a G.I. Joe figure on meth as a symbol for this outfit? Maybe he could be holding a .45 to his own head and a child’s head at the same time/ There’s gotta be a dollar symbol somewhere in there.

Working on a company’s image can be fun.

The picture itself is not so offensive, to me, as it is historical (and I studied history, so dig that stuff), the offensive part is that it contains Erik Prince. I could write volumes about his, both, smug and truculent attitude, but we’ve all seen the videos.

You’ve given me some homework I see. ;) The Bush crime family and the SS/SA. How macabre, yet fitting. What a cheery bunch. What must they talk of at Xmas dinner??

Sadly, I think there’s nothing funny about anything to do with Blackwater. The company is despicable and the use of them is criminal. I’d rather no jokes were made about these hired murderers and that they all get jailed as war criminals.

I understand how you feel but in this political era, with maniacs in the right-wing and a supposed left wing that does nothing to sop it (the politicians , that is…), having a sense of humor about it all, as morbid as the situations can get, is all that keeps me going.

OOPS, meant to say:
