On the November 2 edition of Fox News’ America’s Newsroom, co-host Megyn Kelly teased an upcoming story by saying: “Well, in other news, Barack Obama makes a little girl cry. What? That story … in five minutes.” Kelly added, “He’s made me cry many times.” However, as the Associated Press reported on November 2, Obama, at a campaign event in North Carolina the previous day, spoke with the young girl because she had “shed a few tears.” According to the AP: “That’s how Hadassah Jones, of Durham, got Barack Obama to answer questions Thursday after the campaign initially denied such requests from reporters.” When co-host Bill Hemmer later reported on the story and correctly noted that Obama took “questions from a five-year-old girl after she shed a few tears and got his attention,” Kelly said: “So he didn’t make her cry. She was crying, and then he — and then she stopped crying.” Hemmer replied, “I didn’t say he made her cry.” Kelly then stated, “We said in the tease — I was waiting to see how he made her cry.” Hemmer responded: “That’s why they call it a tease.” Read more…

Ignoring the obvious stupidity of the denial in the first place, I’d like to comment on the “Tease” method of attracting NEWS viewers:
WAY back when I was in college and “Pitbull maulings” were allover the news, I just HAD to purchased a copy of the tabloid “Weekly World News” because the cover read:
PITBULL EATS MOBILE HOME! with a photo of the head of an enormous dog Godzilla-like with jaws targeting a tiny building.
TWWN tabloid always insisted that there be “a least a GRAIN of truth to every story”. The grain here was someone’s dog chewed a hole through the flimsey front door “to get at a little girl” playing outside.
Is what Fox did here any different? Told an outlandish lie containing a grain of truth to attract viewers? Doing so proves Fox Newz is no more than a cheap tabloid.
Um, Is Anyone really surprised?
That’s actually a really touching story if you drop the teaser. A politician getting down on his knees and talking to a kid like that? That’s really sweet.
Of course, the beautiful simile that a five-year-old could understand is completely lost on the Fox News crew…

Or, Bush makes a five-year old girl cry when less than precision aerial bombardement destroys her house and wipes out her family. Or, Bush make five-year girl cry when she grows cancerous tumors from exposure to depleted uranium. Or, Bush makes a five-year old girl cry when she sees the corpses of her family who weren’t smart enough to avoid a Blackwater protection unit.

How long can Fox News function as a propaganda vehicle for the Neocons before Congress steps in to do something about it? Sure, they have their right to speak, but I bet there are all sorts of tax breaks, exemptions, and financial exceptions that the media has worked into our tax code for REAL news organizations. Working at Fox has to be the best gig in the world, though. You get a memo every morning telling you what you’re going to be saying that day and you don’t have to chase down leads and discover facts when you want to do a story. Just send an intern out with a camera and then read your points off on camera.
They don’t even seem to mind having newsreaders who flub their lines, because every clip I see from Fox has a h/bimbo sounding like Ted Baxter at least once. Even in this “tease”, it was pretty clear that Blondie was reading this line for the first time off of her teleprompter. “Obama makes a little Girl cry. What?”
Okay… here’s the inestimable question - why should we care if they behave exactly as we expect they would? Why in the name of all things rationale, holy or at least interested in the fight - wouldn’t the people/person attacked not only have expected it, but - “pre-empted” the empty attack?

Seriously, we… and alot of other people who don’t read this sight and similarly leaning blogs get it. Why haven’t we figured out and shared - let alone didn’t need to because our “opposition leadership” had the rebuttal or pre-emptive negation ready?
Please… seriously - tell me why I should vote democratic vs. green/independent? I have seen nothing from the Democratic leadership/party etc. that dissuades me from the view I arrived at before 9/11 - that the dems/repubs were opposite sides of the same flawed coin.
Why should I feel any differently - Rahm, Pelosi and Co. haven’t been focused on fighting the propaganda… or better still. That’s where they seem to be focused - only easy low hanging fruit (that is when they can be moved). In the meantime… the populace is being fed with nonsense that’s not being challenged.
At the very least… take a page from the republicans and recruit a bunch of ideological (said ideology matching the populace) loyalists who’ll take the blame for your attacks.
What I’ve seen for the last 20+ years is Reformationist/Renaisancce(sp?) thinking pitted against Machiavellian/Hard Core Papal (you get the concept- “conservative/status quo”) thinking… oh, nevermind - I’ll just go back to watching football…
