Trent Reznor's <i>Warning!</i>
By Nicole Belle Sunday Nov 18, 2007 4:00pmDavid from the Art of Mental Warfare teamed up with Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails to present "Warning." The project takes on the covert interests behind the war and our media saturated society.
You have to cry when you think of three words: In. Our. Names. Anyone still feeling apathetic?

Uh yeah I still feel apathetic. This Government knows that they rule over a nation of cowards. I'm just as disgusted with Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Shumer, and Diane Feinstein as I am with George WMD Bush, Dick Cheney, and Condi Rice. I believe that Bush is a tyrant, but the Democrats in Congress are too cowardly to call on Bush/Cheney to step down and resign. The Corporate Media are cowards for not speaking truth to power. The American People are cowards for not hitting the streets in a General Strike and calling for the Government to step down and resign. The Troops are cowards for obeying illegal orders and for not protecting and defending the U.S. Constitution from the tyranny of the Military Commisions act. We're going to get what we deserve.
And oh yeah, what happened to the "hunt" for the infamous" Nine Eleven "Conspirator" Osama Bin Laden? Never Forget Remember? Nevermind.
WOW!! Now this is some thought provoking rock 'n' roll! great find Nicole
Good Times!
Apathetic or overwhelmed? I feel like the lone dissenter in a stampede of lemmings. I know there are more of you out there, but there are 500 furry little asses between me and the nearest other thinking animal.
The Abu Graib prisoner that flips back n forth into Jesus is amazing. The rightwing is NOT going to like that!
This on MTV?
Old Billy @ 5:
I hear you there.
We need to vote smart in 2008; we don't get a second chance with this one.
FINALLY!!!!
what took so long?
Future Shock is here
Trent Reznor gets a lot of flack and gets called a poser, fake, etc. But, the truth is that he's a brilliant song writer and performer and a passionate activist with strong convictions.
Post American @ 1:
I will agree on all points except the troop comment. You do understand that the reason our democracy comes close to functioning is that the military attempts to remain hands off to politics. You understand that if we had troops just following any orders they liked, we would have anarchy right? What if the troops decided that they didn't want to follow the orders of an elected democrat president? Should they take to the streets? They do that in Burma and it doesn't seem too popular with the average joe over there.
I first became a Trent Reznor / NIN fan when they refused to play the VMAs because MTV wouldn't allow them to play "Bite the Hand that Feeds' in front of a giant Bush face. After seeing this, they are now definitely my favorite band!
Dr. Matt @ 11:
True only problem is hoping celebrities will do everything, or waiting for things to change isn't going to change anything.
I'll tell you Osama is somewhere laughing his ass off at what he has done to us. In our moment of truth we have exposed our paranoia, racial indifference, cultural ignorance, false superiority, and cruelty. Say whatever you want about OBL, he kicked W's ass in public opinion.
Now that's the stuff.
Music with balls.
Yowza!
Kudo's Trent and team.
I don't really know of anyone calling Reznor a fake or poseur. Over rated, repetitive, a bad writer? Maybe. I felt that way after With Teeth, but Year Zero brought my interest back (even though even during the With Teeth period their live show was damn good).
Is Trent really involved with this as much as they're saying? The original site doesn't really seem to imply that and the video really just seems like they took his song and put images behind it of their own accord.
I hope Nine Inch Nails never had to scratch their nuts.
Left&Left @ 15:
For sure. He won!!
Maybe some young people will "tune in". I love the blogs, but I wonder if everyone blogs and then feels, "I've done my bit," and watches TV??
WOW!!! LOVED IT :) We need more like this. Great job!
excellent!
I feel about the same as Old Billy at #5. But I remain ready to storm the Bastille at the drop of a hat. I just ain't doing it alone, my first gig in the Army was suicide bomber and I've left that behind many years ago.
OH! And I really liked the video!
L.A. Confidential @ 14:
That's the whole point - this is a call to arms!
Blue Lensman @ 24:
Good luck on that one. With the average attention span being about 3 seconds.
Post American @ 1:
ITS ALL POLITICIANS! not only Repubs
absolutely fucking brilliant!
Good luck on that one. With the average attention span being about 3 seconds.
Actually, according to Faux Noise polls, the average attention span for a male has increased
to 7.5 seconds...that is, if/when Britney Spears boobs or ass is on a video, or some
other sex symbol appears on the screen.
Featuring videos like this is what keeps me coming back to C&L. forget the silly talking head news clip crap. we need some more vids like this! you have to make it cool to be progressive and this vid is cool as hell! Props to Trent and the folks at Art of Mental Warfare.
That's so awesome! A music videos with 9-11 footage? And scolding? So great!
Now that is some good shit Mayard... Trent Raznor and NIN... THAT's the kind of band and material I'm looking for... That's the kind of band I'd like to be involved with.....JD
Trent is part of the system. Who's his Dadday?
Love ya Nicole Bell! (you are my favorite) here at crooks and liars.
This video has me pumped up!! I've been waiting for a music vid to kick some neocon ass.
MUCH RESPECT

Did everyone catch the BCCI reference? I've been going through this thing in detail and there are many not so obvious references that are pretty fucking insightful. Someone definitely did there homework on this one.
Apathy? I have always care, but I know it is impossible to change it. The sense of hopelessness is something that we have in common with a sucide bomber. The only difference is we grew up on different sides of the world.
I don't really like music, which is strange for an 18 year old, but this guy seems good.

Isn't NIN on Interscope records... I noticed their logo was missing from the opening montage.
Time to Impeach for Treason and Try for War Crimes.
I absolutely love this kind of video work. If you're into this kind of music and video, don't think artists have been asleep. I see a lot more of it in the more politically minded techno community out there, which has been going on forever. This one linked here one of my favorites. I like how the theme appears to suggest that our law enforcment and attitudes at home are mirroring "war" in political circumstances somewhat similar to the stance we've taken in foreign policy.

Shirt Jac @ 40:
Trent Reznor has large swinging brass balls! You are mistaken. He is no longer with Interscope. He told them to fork off once he fulfilled his contract with the release of Year Zero.
Check out his production of a totally self-published, released, and web-distributed album by Saul Williams. Totally DRM free with all of the proceeds from the work going to the artist and production team. Available in high bit-rate .mp3 and FLAC lossless audio.
I tip my hat to Trent for doing something about the corruption in the media business. Don't call him part of the system.
See why Johnny Cash liked and respected Trent Reznor.
[Deleted. Off topic-Sitemonitor]
Once again Trent Reznor comes threw with a awsome video. NIN has alway been on the cutting edge. Maybe this will wake people up to whats at stake. Thanks Trent.
With all due respect, that video was absolutely fucking terrible. I've done some video editing here and there and that smacks of something created in the eighties by angst-ridden fifteen year-olds.
The message needs to be coherent, instead of a slide show of mocked-up images of 'demonic' Cheney or pseudo-intellectual juxtapositions of Abu Ghraib detainees with Jesus Christ on the cross.
L.A. Confidential @ 10:
Amen to that! You're not kidding.
Shawnmeat @ 46:
Maybe you could use your video and musical experince to make something better.
[Deleted. Off topic-Sitemonitor]
DiamondMC @ 48:
I'd argue I have, but I'm not going to upload videos I edited for friends' films and shorts here. It's immaterial, though, because you're using a logical fallacy. Are you suggesting that I can't assess the quality of anything without having produced something better? I can't argue that the steak I am eating is kind of crappy unless I've made one better, for example? That's ludicrous.
I think videos that are worse than most of the ones friends in high school produced ten years ago do more damage to the cause than they help it, is all. Simplistic, melodramatic, fast-paced (ironically so, considering their criticism of The Media™) nonsense is not going to turn the country around.
I say this as a fan of Trent Reznor and as someone who agrees with a decent chunk of (what I deciphered to be) the message of the video.
You sure are right about Ron Paul. He would be a more of the same wingnut right bullshit.

You have to cry when you think of three words: In. Our. Names.
I dont cry. I get angry. If you will excuse me for saying so the time for crying is long past.
Shitheads. the beauty of the video is the rough cutness. it's not supposed to be a sanitized pretty corporate MTV production. This is gritty and fuckin real!!
Name this tune: "Are you brave enough to see? Do you want to change it?"
Yeahhhhhhhh........

DiamondMC @ 49:
I'll agree with that while also agreeing with the original poster. I did enjoy the video. But, I am admittedly part of the choir. At the same time, I would have liked to see a little more allowance from the editor's standpoint to let the viewer reach their own conclusion without being subjected to an overbaring amount of text. However, if one knows video editing, grab a song and do it. Particularly for politically minded artists' music. It's not like they'll sue. ;)

"will you bite the hand that feeds you" - insightful line; the more power you cede to the government, the less likely you are to affect change in it. food for thought.
this video is grand. the last image of the abomb is what i call
a "BUSH BABY".......something more terrifying
Happy Days lads!
The video calls us out to keep a stiff upper lip & a poke to the mouth ready for the tories who still act as if Bush has a clue.
By the way. They are out there by the spades.
rasta @ 9:
People have been shouting the message for ages, and for a long time around the world .......... that's easy.
Which if any americans are going to act to reign their government in ?
Last time I looked (first hand) the US government (who are americans) are still slaughtering innocents around the world in the name of the american people, and the tree of liberty hasn't been fed some blood lately why ? ........ Oh yes they are all watching Paris Hilton on youTube and eating McFlith burgers .....
"before it's too late" ...... that time is now people.
Another NIN video with a political bent...

Shawnmeat @ 51:
How about we keep the "I'm a better video editor and stuff" elsewhere... sheeeeesh Stroke that monkey when you get the contract to do the video for an artist like Trent Reznor. Ego trippin
JJohnson @ 8:
Yes! We need to vote in the primaries, I am backing Kucinich. I am changing my affiliation to Democrat to do so. And though I have no sound here at work, the images were quite moving on their own...I talked with some younger people over the weekend, and they were CLUELESS as to what's going on...and they laughed when I said we're on the verge of living in a fascist police state...I think I did get through to one of them...but the others....too complacent to care.
Megan @ 6:
I agree completely,lol...
While I agree with the message in the video, I feel that this is not anything people haven't been saying here and on similar sites for years. We all know Bush and Cheney, et al are war criminals. We all know that our government is responsible for many hundreds of thousands of civilian deaths. We all know that nothing will change. Cue more shots of Britney's boobs and Paris' ass...
more at my blog...

And there lays the opportunity and responsibility of the ones who are in the know, to spread the word/visuals/whatever to the ones who don't know.
I went to visit my 80-something year old mother after not seeing her for about two years. She is a conservative, strict RNC party line voter. When last I saw her, her TV would normally be on all day, tuned to FOX or one of the other propaganda outlets - usually CNN.
Though I hadn't seen her in a while, we had been communicating via email. The subject of a lot of that communication ended up being my refuting neocon nonesense/lies that she would send me. Invariably we would end up at a point where I would be asking her why she was unquestioningly allowing her mind to be polluted by FOX or CNN. They offered nothing but lies and a steady diet of fear.
Eventually she started questioning for herself. I gave her the web addresses for sites like C&L and told her she was a fool if she accepted the commercial media at face value. I think she has been doing her own due dilligence, because she has said recently that all the MSM is the same. She even used the word "lies". (!)When I went to visit, the TV was never turned on. Not once. I'm hoping that she is breaking the addiction to the hypnosis and junk food diet of manipulative lies.
My sister was there with me. We had a discussion about Bush and crew, particularly about Bush being a criminally insane personality and, effectively, being a serial killer with the means to commit mass murder - a crime he is gleefully committing. We compared him to history's worst monsters: Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, etc. We noted how the Republican Party is little different than the Nazi SA, that about the only people it attracks today are the morally dead, the maladjusted and all classes of thugs, that the Republican Party is basically the gathering spot for the criminal class. And so on - all this while my mother listened. Oddly, she was quite silent. No FOX / RNC/WH/neocon talking points. And subsequently, she spent much time on the internet. I think she is waking up.
I never thought I'd see the day that she would begin an awakening from the dark dreams(all of them hand delivered to her courtesy of MSM indoctrination and hypnosis) that have possessed her all these many years. I think that breaking the addiction to broadcast and printed media propaganda is a thing that can gradually happen, and when it does, critical thought becomes possible.
Turn off the TV. Better, get rid of it entirely. Save some trees, unsubscribe from the newspapers and new magazines. They offer mostly lies and fear and little to nothing of value.
Very well done. Reminds me of [BLATANT SELF-PROMO]
my own video King George
Except I am a rank amateur compared to Reznor the Mighty

Clytemnestra @ 38:
Wow . . . I must be on some killer medication cuz I can't even remember posting the second comment, much less what I said.
I do remember playing this video as my middle son walked into the room and asked me why I was playing NIN. Then alittle later asked me to stop playing it because I was going to make him sick of the song (guess I was playing it too much)
But I had no idea that this medication was so strong as to actually make me forget doing something. . . thank God I'm on bedrest for the next few days!
Paul @ 73:
Paul...that is out-fucking-standing! I have been having similar email conversations with my mother and aunt, and they are slowly coming to the same conclusion...though they ask me why I am so angry...I can only say that my anger will be used in a positive and constructive manner...;)
That viddy rocked my world. Thank you.
Diablo @ 12:
Our Republic functions because of our Constitution. Troops deciding which orders to follow or which to ignore is no more relevant to the first comment about the troops than analogies to Burma. Here's a link to a more detailed explanation:
http://www.westpointgradsagainstthewar.org/laws_and_treat%C4%B1es_violat...
Note that in the oath taken by Westpoint graduates (appears in red about a quarter of the way down the page) that they swear to uphold and defend the Constitution. Soldiers cannot simply "choose" to disregard orders they dislike, but they are in fact obligated by law to refuse orders that are illegal.
What's happening in Iraq is a catastrophic example of what happens when we start ignoring the Constitution and the law, just inventing military rules and making stuff up as we go along.
The American Public doesn't do anything because most of these things don't effect white suburbanites on a daily basis. Iraq is a far away scary place that Brit Hume says is a paradise and Global Warming "still requires more research." The American Public won't do anything until one of two things happen, 1) A draft or 2) an economic crisis happens. Both seem to be on the horizon but until then we'll just bitch about how f'ed up it is on blogs and watch Bill Maher, but not actually do anything about it.
windom earle @ 78:
And the definition of an oxymoron is ......... function & constitution ...... dear oh dear.
windom earle @ 78:
Indeed, and as voted in twice by the american people (by apathy at not challenging the theft at least) and continuing as you're reading this .......
There should be a "X innocent people (Iraqi or otherwise) have died from your tax dollars in the time you've taken to read this, hope you're proud, go wave a flag some more fool" message for times like this.
Paul @ 73:
Jaden @ 72:
Very good point. This is something I have been doing for the past several years. The biggest problem is that people are so deeply ingrained with FOX, CNN, etc., that when I send links to sites such as C&L, and others, the response is puzzlement. People can't understand that there are sources for information outside of the narrow realm of propaganda from the MSM. They think you're a loon, or worse, when you try to show them something. In that sense, the propaganda machine is winning. We, as in those of us here, are a small minority that gets ridiculed by those in power. It doesn't matter if we're right - we're regarded as "Godless Liberal moonbats". Until (if ever) we become a majority, this will always be the case.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bF3kDgp7dwI&feature=related
You guys have a nice little party going on over here! Props to C&L and all the C&L readers who make this a cool ass and intelligent community. I appreciate all the comments and discussion about the video. It was something we just put together quickly - all rough and gritty. Keepin it real, that's what we call it.
Thanks - we've just begun!
"Are you brave enough to see?" I think most of ya are!
