Mike Huckabee: Women Should Submit To Their Husbands

Via Daily Kos:

Huckabee’s opinion on gay marriage is out there, but we should also be publicizing Huckabee’s opinions on heterosexual marriage. Specifically, what he believes about a women’s role in a marriage.

In August of 1998, Huckabee was one of 131 signatories to a full page USA Today Ad which declared: “I affirm the statement on the family issued by the 1998 Southern Baptist Convention.” What was in the family statement from the SBC? “A wife is to submit herself graciously to the servant leadership of her husband even as the church willingly submits to the headship of Christ.” Read on…

The Huckster is trying his best to hide his full gospel, but somehow I doubt this factoid will attract more women to his campaign. If you needed further proof that this religious extremist will set our country back even further than President Bush has, look no further. Of course, what do we expect from a man who lobbied to have a convicted serial rapist paroled for political gain.

UPDATE: (Nicole) BeliefNet has rated Huckabee a perfect 10 on the theocrat scale, but that’s still not enough to win over Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins.

I wish you would stop posting about what a nutjob he is. If we shut up about this for a couple of months, maybe the boneheads on the right will nominate him.

Angry One Says:

In response to the tragic church shootings in Colorado, Family Research Council head Tony Perkins naturally pointed the finger of blame at the “secular media.” The senseless massacre of several deeply religious people by one of their own reflected, he claimed, “hostility that is being fomented in our culture from some in the secular media toward Christians.” Of course, Perkins has it almost exactly backwards. Whether concerning abortion, gay Americans, immigration or judicial appointments, the line connecting the rhetoric of the Republican Party and the mainstream conservative movement to right-wing terror is a very short one.

For the details, see:
“Lessons of Colorado: Tony Perkins and Right-Wing Terror.”

Once again, a Baptist takes the New Testament out of context. He should have finished it by saying that “likewise, husbands, submit to your wives, and in doing so, submit to each other….” Paul’s letter to the church at Corinth.

Just like they don’t finish the whole scripture that they tried to use to justify slavery. And if you want to know if Mrs. Huck is submitting, just ask her…

Her “version” of submission is to probably cut Mike off in the sack when he goes in public and spew half-scriptures like this one.

What a guy! Does he advocate that women be chained by the ankle to the kitchen stove too?
It’s f’kin scary that this guy is going for the “Leader Of The Free World” job and is getting support!

Angry One:

I noticed that kid started shooting up in Arvada when he asked if there was a bed he could use for the night and they said “no”.

He commenced firing shortly after…and this was a mission of some sort.

WWJD?

That’s like in Juggs magazine where they have women nekkid, preganant in the the kitchen, but their allowed stiletto heels.

At this point, I almost don’t care who the Republicans nominate. All of them are so flawed, so full of contradictions, so clearly pandering and flip-flopping to appeal to whatever group they happen to be in front of, that the Democrats are going to have to behave even more foolishly than normal not have adequate ammunition to defeat them. And normal for Democrats is pretty damn foolish.

Information from the Ad:

“You are right because you recognized that the family was God’s idea, not man’s, and that marriage is a covenant between one man and one woman for a lifetime.
“You are right because you called husbands to sacrificially love and lead their wives.
“You are right because you called wives to graciously submit to their husband’s sacrificial leadership.
“You are right because you affirmed that the husband and wife are of equal worth before God.
“You are right because you reminded us that children are a blessing and heritage from the Lord.
“More importantly, you are right because your statement is based on biblical truth.”

I hope he gets the nomination and picks Rudy as his running ‘mate’. I wonder if that submit stuff applies to Rudy when he is in a dress?

It would be laughable if a large and growing number of people didn’t support this guy.

Wow, between Huckabee, Romney, and Giuliani, I’m not sure whose attitude towards marriage I like the best.

I guess it’s not enough to release a serial rapist. He also feels compelled to make sure his platform includes positions that a rapist would find appealing.

I feel like I’m in one of those old Heinlein stories about a fascist religious dictatorship in the US. The ‘Prophet’ in those stories got elected, and then proceeded to dismantle democratic institutions. He even said it would happen around the beginning of this century. Damn, I hate it when Life begins to imitate Art…

22
Sue Says:

Yuk

Some times I feel like I’m living in some sort of bizarre dream. And it’s not a good one. This is 2007 and the republicans are acting like it’s 1907.

This guy may be right about not believing in evolution. He’s the best example of it because he hasn’t evolved a bit.

No matter what you think of any or all of the Dem candidates, any one of them would be a hell of a lot better president than any one of the Repubs. At least none of the Dems are questionably insane.

Meh, Huckabee will never be elected. I think we could go as far down the Dem list (poll numbers-wise) as Dodd or Biden and still beat anybody the Repubs can put up.

It’s like a pre-torture game show “How would you like to be disrespected, dear wife”

You could get disrespected the Giuliani way which means you get cheated on and find out about your divorce on tv. Then there’s the Huckabee way which means you get treated like a woman in the old testament (the mean books of the Old Testamnet). Finally there’s the Romney way which includes becoming a baby machine and living in perpetual Leave it to Baver hell.

I mean look at what the top three repubs are talking about. They are vying to see who Jesus would love the most, Rudy, Mitt or Mike.

The dems are talking about health care, education, and the war.

Fade Says:

Any Christians out there will convince me of their faith when they can renounce the murder, torture, and rape sponsored by their so-called Republican “men of faith”…

How completely ignorant do you have to be to believe ANYTHING thes men say? Rape, torture, murder, the exploitation of the poor to benefit the rich and the dissolution of our system of law - All under the banner of Christianity.

As an American, I am rightfully appalled that our country and what it stands for is being dragged through the gutters of immorality by this insane war profiteer.

What I wonder most about are the hows and whys that so many “Christians” allow their very belief system to be dragged through the muck as well by the Republican party. Is their faith so little, is their belief so shallow that they will put away their bibles so easily just to promote these pharisees?

Yep, they Gentler and Kinder with their wives by leaving them alone, that’s probably why all the Evangelical/GOPrs do the mensroom stall two step. Being misogynistic they hate their wives and turn to young boys or men.

Sure, his views on marriage and women may authoritarian and belong to another century. But remember, he’s a wife-fucker (as Bill Maher would say). He fucks his wife and, as far as we know, only his wife. Therefore, he has good Christian values. That’s good enough for “values voters.”

Duke Mazer Says:

We all need to rally and support the Huckster for the GOP nomination. He would be an ideal canidate for them(and us). CNN poll came out today he would lose by 10%-25% depending on the Dem nominee. He’s losing by 10% to Clinton! This is all great stuff than needs to be put in our back pocket until September. The republicans have a slight chance if they nominate a real moderate that is willing to say Bush is a moron, but their base will never allow that, so they will get Huck and we get the White House. But let’s not count our chicks just yet!

That’s the headline on Drudge today - that the Dem Party is not going after Huckabee now because they want the Republicans to nominate him and they can go after him then (thinking that they can make mincemeat of him in the general election). Sounds like a very good strategy.

This is kinda how I’m feelin’ today:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwxbsVd15-I

First Rudy was going to be their star. Then when the light shown on him, he kinda fizzled.
Next, Fred was going to be the man. Then Fred just faded.
Okay, Mitt was the going to be their guy. Mitt sort of melted.
Now Huck is the real thing. Wait till the light shines on him a while and see what happens.
So who is their next darling?

Preacher Boob Says:

Way to go, Huck, you’re a true ‘conservative’.

Let’s get back to the ‘good old days’. Bring slavery back, but not exactly as it was, this time let’s do it ‘god’s way’.

Women will be slaves, men will be masters.

That has a nice ring to it, and once and for all does away with the dreamy, figmental concept that ‘god’ might be a woman. What blasphemy!

What about whips? Well, what a man-master does in this castle is his, and ‘god’s’ business.

How subservient should a woman be? How subservient can she be? ‘God’ knows, and it’s up to man to find out.

How do women stand before ‘god’?

They don’t, they lay.
