Bush’s latest, as yet unknown, ploy, was the signing statement he out on the energy bill, which provides that henchforth, all US clocks must run backwards.
He claims, indecipherably, that it will ‘Save the Nation’s Energy’.
Bullshit. It’s a transparent ploy to extend his presidency for another seven+ years.
Now we have to look backward to 2000 to get rid of the SOB.
Isn’t it time some lawmaker, somewhere, of whatever party, took the initiative to make ’signing statements’ which negate the function of Congress, illegal??!!
WTF are our Congressfolks not-thinking?
Just out of curiosity, in which country is there still a ‘Happy Valley?
I’d like to go there.
Excuse me. One does not ‘think’ about religion.
One ‘feels’, or ‘faiths’, or ‘fantasizes’, or ‘imagines’, or ‘engages in figmenting’, but one does not ‘think’ about religion.
‘Thinking’ is reserved for rational folk, who have more important, more productive things to do with their time, than muse about myths.
Freidman is High Priest of the Koolaid Kult.
Sip at your peril.
The Supreme Court this term will decide a set of voter identification cases which could well determine the outcome of the 2008 election. In a narrow legal sense, the cases will address the constitutionality of new voter ID laws in Indiana and other states. But more important, the Roberts Court will decide whether to rubber stamp an essential tactic in the all-out Republican war to suppress the votes of minority - and likely Democratic - Americans.
For the details, see:
“Supreme Court Test for GOP Vote Suppression Strategy.”
It’s inexcusable that homophobia is the basis of so much intolerance, especially by the ‘Devoted’ christians among us.
Hell, everyone knows that the reason for the myth of Mary’s ‘virgin’ birth, was to cover for Jesus being a fag.
I’m having all my ‘papers’ printed on used Charmin, so the next time some ‘official’ asks for them, I can show my opinion of irrational authority.
Being Gay is not a requirement for not believing in God. Anyone can do it!
Heaven forbid we ask people to be responsible for themselves and then let them keep what they earn!! Bad Capitalism!! Bring back those long lines in the Soviet Union!!
Why You’re Wrong About The Democrats
the Words of Power post is a must-read
actor212 @ 10:
96% of republicans suck. 87% of democrats suck. I have decided its time to start looking at candidates individually.
ingnorance+ partisanship = prejudice!
(the entire water supply is contaminated)
dont fall for the media’s “divide and conquer” strategy
@Preacher Boob: Don’t be silly. Philosophers such as Bertrand Russell, Daniel Dennett, and Sam Harris (not to mention Socrates, Heraclitus, and a million others) think about religion.
If you’d read my post first, you’d have seen that I too am an educator thinking about religion, and how it stands in the way of much relevant education and progress.
Peace.
who is this “mike finnigan” person? where’s steveaudio? where’s shakesville? where’s mediabloodhound? where’s lance mannion? all the folks we’ve come to know and love in the round up!
seriously, welcome back, mike!
Clay @ 13:
‘Being silly’, as you put it, is my way of stirring up comments. Such as yours, incidentally.
It’s also a way of evaluating fellow posters. And lastly, it is fun, to play with words. So I’ll continue to ‘Be silly’. By the way, I’ve email corresponded with Daniel Dennett, read all his pertinent works, ditto for Harris, not, I must admit, for Russell. But I average about 3-4 books per week. I consider myself educated, and ignorant, since I cannot know everything. But I learn, wherever my interests lead me.
Clay @ 13:
I just reread my post, and I misposted. My intended meaning was ‘The religious do not think about religion,……….’
Preacher Boob @ 16,
Now we’re talking. I’m all for inspired silliness - Hakim Bey’s “serious, but not sober,” from The Temporary Autonomous Zone, is one of my favorite mantras - that wasn’t my issue. My issue, which you noted and self-corrected, was the implication in your comment that my post shouldn’t be read because it purported to “think” about religion.
So thanks for self-correcting. Now go be silly some more ;)
Clay
PS. Thanks to C&L for the link. The comments to my post have encouraged me to no end. Fascinating, smart, benign responses all. Normally when I write about this, I’m met with graveyard silence by my regular teacher-readers.
Clay @ 17:
Clay, I hadn’t read you blog until just now. I now have it bookmarked for later study.
Small world: The other day, on C&L, there was an inane thread asking for responses to a set of amateur psych-out questions. I made up my own quiz, and my answer to my question, ‘Who would you most like to get advice from?’, I answered, ‘Richard Dawkins and Stephen Hawking’.
