Former Republican Congressman indicted in terrorist fund-raising conspiracy!
By John Amato Tuesday Jan 15, 2008 2:20pmMore Republican corruption---Are you surprised?
A former congressman and delegate to the United Nations was indicted Wednesday as part of a terrorist fund-raising ring that allegedly sent more than $130,000 to an al Qaeda and Taliban supporter who has threatened U.S. and international troops in Afghanistan. The former Republican congressman from Michigan, Mark Deli Siljander, was charged with money laundering, conspiracy and obstructing justice for allegedly lying about lobbying senators on behalf of an Islamic charity that authorities said was secretly sending funds to terrorists.
Siljander, who served two terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, was appointed by President Ronald Reagan to serve as a U.S. delegate to the United Nations for one year in 1987...read on

This is rich!
As if hookers weren't enough, now they are fund-raising for Osama.
"The former Republican congressman from Michigan, Mark Deli Siljander, was charged with money laundering, conspiracy and obstructing justice..."
Those are the charges? Hell, treason among many other high crimes would be at the top of my list for Slijander.
There's a lot more to Siljander than that. This is from Fred Clarkson so it's totally legit.
One is former Rep. Mark Siljander (R-MI), who now is running for the GOP nomination for Congress from northern Virginia. Siljander served in the House from 1981-86, but was turned out by the voters, partly because of extremist statements that smacked of religious bigotry. In 1986, for example, Siljander taped a message soliciting campaign support from ministers to "help break the back of Satan." He now says he wants to keep religion out of his campaign.
Nevertheless, a politician's past is often a prologue. Siljander has been a steering committee member of the secretive, theocratic Coalition on Revival (COR) since 1986. In 1990, he was listed as a leader of a COR political arm, the National Coordinating Council (NCC) whose agenda includes the abolition of public schools, the IRS, and the Federal Reserve by the year 2000. The NCC also calls for taking over county governments and the establishment of "Christian"-controlled county militias.
Evidently he had some sort of epiphany and he's been campaigning of late for Muslim-Christian understanding. I assume the epiphany came in the form of a substantial fee.
Terrorist Fundraising:
Didn't we just promise to send $20B in weapons to Saudi Arabia?
Didn't we arm the Taliban?
Didn't we arm Saddam Hussein?
No secrets there. It's all flat out in the open.
Whoops, wrong Siljander. Maybe they're related though.
the usa indulges in state sponsored terrorism....
its good for their pocket-book but way bad for the country.
Oh, sorry, it's the right Siljander. I'm getting all confused. yes, it's the same guy.
Yes, but those latter 2 are terrorist sonsabitches that we hate now. Saudi Arabia is our friend!
BlueMD @ 5:
Well maybe it will FINALLY come out, that Reagan armed the Taliban in the first place.
That old crazy turkey neck.
cervantes @ 8:
I was confused too. At first I thought it was Zoolander exporting "Blue Steel" to Al Queda. :-)
Sorry cervantes, just havin' a chuckle. :-)
... out of curiosity how many scandals more have to involved GOP operatives, for the American people to start paying attention and run these bozos into the nearest federal pen where they belong.
Unbelievable, 50+ yrs of pro-actively conduct anti-American activities and the GOPers are the ones wrapping themselves with the flag as if it was theirs.
Wow, just wow...the repugs are fallin apart.
Tyler Durden @ 12:
And they call us anti-American!!! What a bunch of assholes!
Doesn't even surprise me.
Death penalty. Come on...I don't support it as a rule, but if we're at war and he's outright aiding and abetting the enemy, he deserves it.
It's all about money to the thugs, and that's all this is to them...just another fucked up money deal.
Three guys were tortured at gitmo for same offense, however they activities were only related to muslims fund rasing, and here we have a congressman who his probably free right now and his court will not be until 2012.
Wow, it's over guys. Diebold has won.

Who owns PayPal? Ebay owns PayPal.
The CEO of Ebay is on Romneys Steering Committee.
Dennis, thanks for trying pal anyway. You're the true leader of Democratic Party. V
BlueMD @ 5:
Congratulations! You win a trip to Malibu!
That hardly compares to the 20,000,000,000 worth of JDAMS bushie just sold the saudis. everyone knows how often the saudis have had to use weapons like that, almost daily....
robert @ 17:
This makes no sense at all. Contrary to what some may think, there are still other ways available to make payments. Perhaps a link to the actual story would help us understand what's actually going on. Thanks.
They'll have to update his official government page....

robert @ 17:
MotherFUCKING Diebold!!!! This country is fucking screwed....again!
That Republicans are involved in funding terrorists is as surprising as a Republican having sex in a public men's room.
Anyone remember that bribe that Hastert allegedly took from an Al Qaida operative?
...
Well....now if bush's grandfather Prescott Bush could raise money for the Nazi, before and during the Second World War, I guess this guy thought he could raise money for terrorist. After all they are both republicans.
"Ronald Reagan Republicans......Sponsoring Terrorists Since 1981"
I'm betting in the next 24 hours fox ID's Siljander as either a Democrat or a liberal.
robert @ 17:
and, it must be mentioned, bain capital--founded by mitt romney--just bought clear channel
Waterboard the mofo. We have to be sure he's not withholding anymore crimes.
And waterboarding is so effective. Send his ass to Gitmo and ask him if Bush was in on the deal. Appply water as often as necessary. Viola. Bush was in on it.
Just one more crazy assed old republican who may have gotten caught doing something his party abhores. If he's guilty, off to Gitmo with him.
A bit OT. Here's a clip of bush that will make you bash your computer screen.
robert @ 17:
Not only are the politicians NOT listening to the electorate, but at the same time blatantly giving Americans in general a nice big ol' "Dick Cheney" (F. U.)......oh ya forgot to add.......change, change, change, 911, 911, change, change.......How tragically sad to see a great nation taken down by the greedy rich elite.
Curious: Does anyone know the identity of the specific U.S. Senators whom
were lobbyed by Siljander when he violated the law?
Why does he support Terrorism™ and hate Freedom™?
ConcernedCanuck @ 30:
Sad indeed...but as one of my fav. bumperstickers say..."Stay warm this winter...Burn out the rich!" Their day will come...hopefully in my lifetime.
Hey, I thought this site was anti-conspiracy!!!!!!!!
I saw only a blip on this on msnbcnews. Trying to bury it, don't you think?
Republicans want the terrorists to win.
robert @ 17:
This doesn't match up at all with what I just read at brad log. Where did you get this information?
" ..The Party of National Security in bed with terrorists on Reagan’s watch! .."
CARRRAAMBA !!!
who's aiding and abetting now bitches?!!!!!
This should be no surprise to anyone. How else can the Neo-Cons wage their religious war without an enemy? They created much of this terrorist threat by sponsoring the likes of Bin Laden and Saddam in order to justify the movement of the last 25 years in this country towards Totalitarianism. Make us safe by taking away our freedoms. Make us strong by uniting us in religion. Make us prosperous by military occupation and constant defense growth. We serfs are dispensable cannon-fodder for the powerful MIC.
more at my blog...
how soon til Bush promotes him, say, maybe a sweet job at the DOJ or something. Wait, no, gets him a high level job at DHS!
Giuliani/Siljander 2008. Yeah, that's the ticket!
Is it possible that he sent money to the general who sent money to Atta? I don't want to start any rumors, but isn't this how the media writes news. Start with a rumor or a straw man and on with the story.
Hmmmmmmm, a Ronald Raygun appointee. Is this why all the republicans bow before the image of Ronny?
Why such small charges? Why not Treason or Conspiracy to Over Throw the US Govt.?
Now THAT'S odd... CNN doesn't have this as the lead story - and the AP headline and first paragraph from the Associated Press don't identify the defendant's party affiliation. You have to read down to the second paragraph to get that info. Hm. I wonder what the first WORD of the HEADLINE STORY would be were the congressman a Democrat, hmmm... hmmm... I wonder if the first word wouldn't be "DEMOCRAT"?
Albatross @ 45:
Thats FOX's job ... they will have the banner saying he was a Dem.
robert @ 17:
they're already counting the votes. and the payment was not made over PayPal. quit starting stupid rumors you troll.
wasn't Iran-Contra a repuglican operation? well then, there's NO SURPRISE!!!!!!!!!!
♥♂ Angry Guy @ 44:
Maybe bcause he's REPUGLICAN?????????
Why do Republicans want to murder American soldiers? Why do they hate freedom?
While all some care to do is bash Republicans, the real story here is that the NSA surveillance program is producing results. Of course it's not going to be officially disclosed, but it's quite reasonable to think this case was broken open by monitoring communications between Gulbuddin Hekmatyar and his contacts in here in the USA.
http://www.usdoj.gov/opa/pr/2008/January/08_nsd_029.html
CoIntelPro @ 48:
I was thinking this myself as I read this story.
Truthfully if this were a dem or a clinton Appointee, the media would be swarming this story like honey...
And hello everyone, this is my first post here!
They are talking about on MSNBC.
Raine @ 52:
Just like the MSM was "swarming" over the Norman Hsu story when it first broke? Think again.
jakeonfire @ 47:
sorry for my rashness - it appears that Kucinich's money delivery went fine, but Republican Albert Howard ? had some troubles with his $55k payment through PayPal, which has been resolved.
I can't find any good evidence, but there are comments implying this much at:

peaceful easy feeling @ 51:
The real story here is that the NSA surveillance program is producing results.
Indeed.
Out of tens of millions of Americans that have been subjected to the program, after years that have passed without a clear, definitive success that might put NSA in the better light, the first caught culprit turned out to be a Republican Congressman from Michigan.
Hmm. The word irony just won't do this justice.
George Bush's statement on republicans funding terrorists:

"Democratic candidate Dennis Kucinich did not order a statewide recount today, only two counties"
And this will do what?
peaceful easy feeling @ 51:
Could it be that you are somewhat naive?
moondancer @ 50:
Republicans only murder American soldiers if they are paid. Based on this latest outrage $50,000 is the going rate.
It's time for republicans to come clean, this is the last straw.
robert @ 56:
Even Irony can be ironic, sometimes!
Thank God it was a Republican and not a Democrat. Can you imagine the hysteria on the right had Siljander been a D.
Oreally would have drooled all over his mic, Limberger might even have taken a couple of extra Oxycontin to celebrate...
The MSNBC report headline only said he was a former congressman.
This clown was my sister's congress critter - dumber than dirt, viscious as a wolverine and greedy. Oh, wait, that kinda defines Republicans these days.
With out Islamic Terrorism the gop really has no platform to run on.
Sheesh! Next thing you know, we'll find out that the Bush family has been in cahoots with the Bin Laden family.
Oh wait .......
yellow dog @ 63:
God has nothing to do with the republican mantra of
Everyman for himself/anything for a buck
What will be the next horrific crime scandal for the criminals and crooks in the Reslug party of brainless knuckle draggers?
Over at Kos they have tons of info on this guy. Worth reading for sure!
Wingnut harpy Debbie Schlussel used to work in Siljander's congressional office - Let's say she's a bit verklempt...
The Detroit Free Press article that the post links to suggests that they are indicting because the former rep in question was helping out Hekmatyar. The same article ties Hekmatyar to both Al-Queda and the Taliban. Only Hekmatyar fought the Taliban. He was one of the warlords fighting over Kabul. The Pakistani ISI put their weight behind Mullah Omar, and Hekmatyar fled...as most of his men promptly switched sides.
So i'm not trying to defend Siljander...not at all. My point is that there is basically no way to tie Hekmatyar to the Taliban, or, consequently, Al-Queda. (though due to the involvement of the ISI, every card is a wild card)
This will require some more digging, but i'm a wonderin' if that's rat i smell...seems like a real fine way to prove that we really do need to spy on everyone all the time.
Looks like the dry spell between Republican scandals has come to a close, and when it rains, it pours!
Are they going to send him to Gitmo?
WatchDogg @ 71:
She's a fucking wacko. "Terrorism, Israel, Terrorism, blah, blah, blah". That's pretty much every one of her columns and TV appearances.
Matthews will keep saying "Republicans are the party of national security"
Ron @ 59:
Nope. Probably just not sayin' what you'd like to hear. ;)
jackpine savage @ 72:
More accurate information can be found in the DoJ PR:
http://www.usdoj.gov/opa/pr/2008/January/08_nsd_029.html
President PNACcio @ 36:
Not quite.. they don't want the terrorists to win, but they don't want the terrorists to lose either. They want to keep them around as an ever-present boogieman to use whenever the US public start to catch on to what's really going on.
"So, you think us Republicans are screwing you in the ass eh? Quick, look over there, a TERR-RIST!"
And they call Democrats traiters? I bet Fox will accidentally change him into a Democrat. Just you watch.
it could be argued that making a contribution to the republican party is supporting terrorism.
Supporting terrorists was SOP for Ronnie Raygun.
Contras, Al-Queda, all the same to him.
peaceful easy feeling @ 77:
Thanks for the link. It maintains the government line about the Hekmatyar/Taliban link. And that was the indictment handed down today. And all this has happened in the last few years, well after Hekmatyar has been on the run...as much from the Taliban as from the US. He's a threat to them in the long term, and without an army he's no help to them in the short term.
So maybe i'm splitting hairs. But if its about giving money to terrorists, wittingly or unwittingly, then pretty much everybody who has served in the US government since at least 1979 oughta be in jail.
I remember this guy from the 80s. He was holier than everybody, bled religiousity
But the voters saw thru it. Can it happen agian in '08?
Another repuke scandal ehh... Just never stops does it... This time some idgit republican pol (or is that tool) in bed with Terrorists... Someone call Chertoff and his blackboot sturmtruppen... There's plenty of room at the hotel gitmo to figure this all out...
Of course we could all look on the sunny side.. At least it wasn't a small boy, girl or cuddly animal... And it wasn't another dude in the next stall of a public restroom.... I'm sure the GOP lead morons are breathing a sigh of relief over that small favor....JD
So much for that lame republican argument "we've got to fight them there or we will be fighting them here".
This guy will probably get a pardon as Chimpy is on the way out the door of the WH in '09.
The argument that only the republican party can keep us safe has been effectively lost today with this announcement.
i wonder if there are any photo ops between him and cheney?
conspiracy nuts get cracking! there is always a shred of truth in what you guys come up with
So Siljander's gonna be sent to Gitmo, where some evidence can be, uhm, finessed outta him, right? RIGHT?
Actually, this may be bogus.
Declare one group terrorist, and the label metastasizes, frightening anyone from helping all the orphans and widows left behind in the war on terror.
Be careful what you wish for.
canada is lookin real good people
BlueMD @ 5:
Didn`t the US fund the same guy throughout the eighties towards the overthrow of the Russians? It just sounds like this guy just didn't quit while it was politically viable. Oops, funding terrorists while they are your allies is okay, but doing so when these guys are your enemies is wrong. Shouldn't funding extremist fundies be wrong all the time? I guess I need to forget about Pakistan and Saudi Arabia...
ducatidave @ 89:
Don't be so sure, we have a Prime Minister (a Junior President, if you will) that believes US presidents can do no wrong. Canada is like the US thirty years ago, politico-wise, but it seems to want to catch up. Be weary of Canadian politics. They seem subservient, in our parliament, but because of political in-fighting and scandals, Canadians are left with little true alternatives.
It will be so good to start getting some of this trash out of our Congress. These people are simply criminals.
