Progressive radio talk show host Ed Schultz went on The O’Reilly Factor (Why, Ed? Why?) to give his views on the Democratic half of the presidential slate. Never one to pass up the chance to bring up past stupidity, when the talk went to John Edwards, Billo brings up the ridiculous assertion he made when John Edwards was on that there are no homeless veterans.
ES: I think (Edwards’) message is strong and he has tremendous conviction, but I think he needs a little bit more material than just the “Two Americas” talk, he got to get a little bit deeper…
BO: Well, we’re still looking for all the veterans sleeping under the bridges, Ed, so if you find anybody, let us know, because that’s all the guy said for the last three nights…
ES: Well they’re out there, Bill. Don’t kid yourself.
BO: They may be out there, but there’s not many of them out there. Okay? So if you know where one is, Ed…
ES: Well, actually…Now, wait a minute…one in ..
BO: Ed, Ed. If you know where’s a veteran, sleeping under a bridge, you call me immediately, and we will make sure that man does not do it. Is not there.
Ed should know that Bill would never allow him to complete a sentence that has facts in it. After all, this is FOXNews, and facts aren’t actually part of their demographic. But here at C&L, I’ll repeat BillW. from the earlier John Edwards post:
In 2006, approximately 195,827 veterans were homeless on a given night—an increase of 0.8 percent from 194,254 in 2005. More veterans experience homeless over the course of the year. We estimate that 336,627 were homeless in 2006. …
But I’m intrigued by Billo’s challenge. I don’t know if he’s speaking for Fox News or just using the royal “we”, but I’d like to know how Billo plans to make hundreds of thousands of vets “not do it.” It shouldn’t be too hard to find a homeless vet in NYC, where The O’Reilly Factor is taped. Wouldn’t it be great to have them show up to FOXNews HQ to thank Bill in advance for helping them?

No Trackbacks To “O’Reilly To Schultz: “If you know where’s a veteran, sleeping under a bridge, you call me immediately, and we will make sure that man does not do it.”“

Security would never let them in the studio.
Maybe billo can send his camera crew out to find some homeless vets. It wouldn’t take them long.
Of course there are no homeless vets - they’re all “phony” vets, according to Billo.
Maybe if they’d head over to his taping for nearby bridges, he could run a soup-line. Or give out cots. Or something. Love to see it.
We need a modern day Smedley Butler.
Hey, I was first for a change. :)
I’m a veteran and when I go down to the local VA I see a lot of homeless vets. Maybe BillO should start his search there. Besides, a lot of homeless vets still are Vietnam vets. BillO might recall that particular war. But then again, maybe not since he dodged it.
He just wants to know where they are so he can go there and hand out his book to them, get film of it, and then get the hell back to his comfy home.
well… no it wouldn’t be great, because then we’d pretty much be exploiting the homeless, just like this scumbag is. I’m not sure how we “have them” do anything, anyway, unless you’re suggesting a trip down to skid row with a fistful of dollar bills to fashion together a quick, destitute mob.
i know what you’re saying, but its always good to remember that allowing homelessness should be criminal for any culture that fancies itself civilized, and yet here are monsters such as O’Rielly who see people of the lowest class not as human beings but as rhetorical fodder.
why are we so against smart people going on Bill’s show and pummeling him?
I think it’s a great thing to do, rather than letting him put on strawmen loons representing the “left.”
Even if the homeless vets do show up - he’ll weasel out of it by saying something like “I said a vet sleeping under a bridge - these guys are sleeping in cardboard boxes.”
Keep in mind this is the same Billo who was surprised to learn that Black people use silverware and linen napkins.
Rotten - I both agree and disagree. Such an action donre as described would be exploitive. Filming a crew who actually work with the homeless regularly, and maybe stopping off for a photo-op in front of Rock Center while in transit to the clinic or whatever..
You could call that exploitation, but I think it would be in the good sense of the term.
When the crew gets to the bridge, OR will block the shot.
Maybe the Falafel Guy can redirect his search to look for a witless non-vet. He see’s one in his huge mirror every day.
Most products shipped today are shipped in cardboard boxes which hold large quantities of said product.
Bill loves to pimp his book, which means he probably has lots of empty cardboard boxes around.
Bill would happily provide garbage to the homeless so that they aren’t sleeping under bridges, but inside his cardboard boxes instead.
Bill wins, right?
Billo could hand out free loofahs and falafel.
He’ll definitely weasel out. If some dozens of homeless vets would turn up at Fox News headquarters he’ll just say they are “some” homeless, produced by the loony left and stuff. And how will the prove their identity? By IDs?
It would just be a sad spectacle, to further the ratings of an unworthy person.
I bet I could find some vets who regularly sleep under a bridge.
But I’m betting Bill would respond by having the police for them to move on.
Remember he didn’t say he’d pay for a months rent or anything he just said he’d “make sure that man does not do it. Is not there.”
Problem with Billo’s guests is that when they consistently show him to be the ass that he is, he never invites them on again. (Or if he does, he edits out anything intelligent they have to say - you all do know the show’s taped, right? That’s why Michael Moore refused to be interviewed by him unless it was live, like it was at one of the political conventions a few years ago.)
BillO doesn’t say he’ll do anything FOR the Vets, just that he’ll make sure that they’re not doing it. Sounds like he wants to round them all up, not help any of them out.
He let Ed talk when Ed was talking about criticizing the Dem candidates. I’ll bet that there will be “quotes from respected liberals” on BillO’s show using paraphrasings of Ed’s statements. I want to see him and Rush in a cage match to the death!
Marc @ 13:
I hope so. Some of them guys do have guns. I hope Billo will stand up and block the shot at his cameraman.
He’ll do it the same way Rudy did it in New York. He’ll have he police go out to stomp and beat the homeless until they move on. Then you stand up and brag about the reduction of homelessness in New York.
Every time I look at BillO I am thankful that I am no longer in the military. To Bill, military people are pawns to be used to carry out his fantasies. When they leave the service they are useless to him. So, I turn it around. Each time I am approached by someone like BillO and they “thank me for my service” I give them this: I didn’t do it for you asshole. To me, your chicken ass is not worth defending.”
Hey Bill will they sleep in your house asshole?
better than having the homeless vets show up at the studio,
how about sending 50 or more of them to billo’s home to setup
a homeless camp on his home property.
then you will seen the true humanity (NOT) of billo when he calls the police to remove them.
I wish that everyone on the liberal/progressive side would just say “no” when asked to appear on any Faux News show. Sideline them completely, because appearing on Faux News gives them the appearance of respectability. No regular Faux News viewer is ever going to vote for a Democrat, so there is no point in trying to “reach out” to the other side via Faux. Besides, when has any Democrat been allowed to make their case and present their facts without being interrupted and challenged 1000 times while they’re trying to talk? Liberals/progressives are just punching bags for the Faux News crew.
Mike Mid City @ 24:
Hey Mike, I see from your Myspace page that you were in the Corps. I served 1989-1993. Semper Fi my man.
O.T. a bit. The votes are in at msnbc for who won the debates last night. Clinton 20%. Obama 72%. Edwards 8.1%. Who are the bozos that voted in this poll. We know that the commentaters tried to focus away from John Edwards and the media this morning almost treated him like Kucinich, as if he wasn’t even there. I felt that Edwards was the most consistant with his message and his message is for change by taking our government back. I participated in the thread last night and there were a bunch of comments by people who wren’t even watching the debate. I have to wonder if the voters in msnbc’s poll watched it, also. I would like to see what the rest of you think.
There are 2 Viet Nam vets who are homeless and live on Columbus Blvd. in Philadelphia. They have been there for years. They hang out and beg right on the railroad tracks @ the intersection to enter a Walmart shopping center.
O’Reilly didn’t say he wanted to HELP these guys he just said he wanted to make sure “they don’t do it anymore”, which I’m sure by that he means he wants to make sure they don’t sleep under bridges anymore. He just wants to run them out from under the bridges. Typical of the “support the troops” crowd.
Ed Schultz will go on O’Rielly because they are the exact same type of guy, obnoxious blowhards who use invective over substance and prefer the sound of their own voice to any type of reasoned logic. Listening to this guy’s show is a study in self absorption, he plays clips of himself on tv constantly. Its really quite pathetic.
Ed is at best slightly progressive, he is by no means liberal, sometimes I have to check which station I’m on to make sure I’m not actually listening to Rush Limbaugh.
dadams @ 25:
Did you really just suggest “sending 50 or more of them to Bill’s home” so that you could make a petty point? Did you forget your compassion pill this morning or what?
My suggestion: go talk to “50 or more of them” before opening your mouth again.
FOX News: if you’re reading this, just think how great ratings would be if you pitted Billo against a homeless Marine in hand-to-hand combat. No writers needed. Just a suggestion.
With regular police sweeps, and the homeless always needing to be on the move, it’s hard to know who’s where from night to night.
Perhaps they should check VA medical records for those receiving help, but don’t seem to have any home address.
ONE: How, exactly, does O’Reilly propose that Schultz direct him to a homeless veteran? Specific individuals among the homeless aren’t that easy to find. After all, it’s not as if they have a fixed address or even necessarily a fixed locale. When people are homeless, they tend to go wherever they think they can find the best shelter — not necessarily an official homeless shelter — and this means that at least some do not stay in any one place for more than a few days at a time. Also, not all the places where the homeless go are readily familiar or even known to those outside the homeless community — as an example, here in New York City, it’s a well-known fact that quite a few among the homeless live in the subway tunnels.
TWO: Even if Schultz were to succeed in finding a homeless person and supplying incontrovertible proof that this specific person is a war veteran — something which O’Reilly would no doubt make every effort in his power to challenge — how, exactly, does O’Reilly propose to “make sure that man does not do it”? Notice that nothing in what he said suggested that efforts would be made to help this putative individual — only to stop him, which I think is significant since it implies that the method most likely to be proposed would be putting him in prison for vagrancy.
Once again, O’Reilly only succeeds in providing support for the theory that the phrase “compassionate conservative” is more often than not an oxymoron…
Check this one: Edward’s polling results compared to Clinton/Obama.

The media hype.
Here’s the quote that fried me:
Well, we’re still looking for all the veterans sleeping under the bridges, Ed, so if you find anybody, let us know…
How anyone could work and/or live in a very large city and NOT see homeless (many of whom are veterans) people???
Dump BillO off at the corner of Sepulveda and Wilshire in Los Angeles and see how many homeless vets he finds. There is usually an entire camp set up behind the house at the southeast corner, especially before all of the 405 construction. Irony/coincidence: this location is about 2 blocks west of the VA hospital and about 1 mile north of Fox television studios.
JTM @ 32:
it must have been very hard for you to remove your lips from billo’s asshole
to make your remark. WTF did you have this morning, a billo philly with balls?
Gee, I hope he doesn’t send Fox Security out to shoot them.
O’Racist is nothing but a typical elitist reich-winger who is divorced from reality. “He” will continue to make up “wars” and “battles” with imaginary groups of people (i.e. “SPs”), but gladly ignores real problems and real Americans.
Rusty Shackleford @ 33:
Now that is a great suggestion. I wonder what Bill’s rating would be like if he started crying when confronted by the Marine or did his “talking points memo” show in bandages.
That sounds rather ominous: “we will make sure that man does not do it.” What are they going to do? Knowing Bill, as we do, my guess is they’ll make that homeless vet sleep on top of the bridge.
Hey Bill…Come to Minneapolis, there’s one on most off-ramps leading off of I-94. Consistently on Dowling and I-94, there is a Vietnam Vet.
I have a feeling once he finds them, he’ll ridicule them, make them feel as if they didn’t serve their country, and probably even challenge that they were ever a soldier. Of course all of this would be done with no facts to support it. What a …., he don’t even deserve the shame.
dadams @ 25:
Even if you could get 50+ homeless vets to show up at BillO’s house, he has a built in “out”. He said they had to be sleeping under a bridge. Any homeless Vet not under a bridge doesn’t count! But given that he’d still have them rounded up and possibly arrested (or detained). He hasn’t really been able to show that he is a humanitarian in any respect, has he?
JTM @ 32:
Wow, now I know what a “concern troll gone wild” sounds like…
Jesus tap dancing Christ on a pogo stick, so O’reilly is the victim here, eh?
