Heath Ledger attacked over Brokeback Mountain role

Dan Abrams and even The Scar were offended by John Gibson’s mocking of Heath Ledger’s death by right wingers. Will O’Reilly read off a few comments made on message boards about Ledger to his audience? You knew some wingnuts would try to play the homophobia card on Ledger because of his role in Brokeback Mountain. Simply amazing. Well, not really…

John Gibson responds via Think Progress to the outcry from his stupidity bysaying that it was just “a little Brokeback Mountain joke” and there is “no point in passing up a good joke.”

UPDATE: GLAAD has started a petition asking Fox News “why they continue to provide a platform for John Gibson’s cruel and tasteless comments.”

UPDATE II: Perez Hilton identifies a list of Fox News’ current advertisers.

Gibson is as cold blooded as any snake. I really think that he actually enjoys reading about or watching people die. Hell, he probably hangs out at morgues or cruises the obituaries just for kicks.  Gibson is one sick man.

You’re right in that nobody should give a donkey’s ass about what idiots like that say. The problem is that those idiots are given a prominent platform to say these things. The outcome of this is that when someone has a national platform like Gibson does, they are relevant to lots of people who accept what they say as legitimate. It’s not right, but that’s what happens.

And I look forward to the day when I can make an insensitive joke about John Gibson’s death. There’s no point in passing on a good joke, right Gibby?

And what good would that do to crack jokes about Gibson’s death? I don’t wanna further the sufferering of his family. I don’t need to redo his stupid actions to justify his stupid actions. That and a lot more qualities are what make me different than someone like him. Besides… the signifcance his life is to our world is too small for me to put the time and energy into it.

His lame-ass “I’m sorry” doesn’t cut it with me.

He took great joy in joking about it on his radio program, and “I’m sorry” fixes nothing.

That group to which Dan Abrams referred - that’s gotta be Fred Phelps merry band of inbred psychopaths. How can Abrams be even remotely shocked by this? These cretins protest at the funerals of dead soldiers for fucks sake! As for Gibson, I hope this is his Imus moment but you know what? His “show” is syndicated by Westwood One - aren’t they the same company that carry Wiener Savage’s program?? Yeah, wait until he gets into it. All these people are fucking insane; they’re sick, twisted individuals; In other words they represent perfectly a large, diseased segment of American society

Well it’s just that “I’m sorry” is something I just never expected out of the mouth of a Fox News pundit. Imagine if that pompus lying asshole O’Reilly had the guts to do it. I can’t.

I remember sitting in a little cafe years ago, reading a newspaper article that featured a gallery of young actors and actresses that had potential. I looked at Heath Ledger’s photo, turned to my friend, pointed to the pic and said, “That guy is going to be a star.”

Ledger, to me, had something just incredibly special about him. His death, especially at such a tender age, is extremely saddening.

I hope that karma follows John Gibson for the rest of his days and metes to him a worthy punishment for his callousness.

Craziness runs in the wingnut family.

There use to be an unwritten law that put the recently deceased off limits to criticism. Gibson crossed the line again but won’t have to worry about losing his job. That’s one of the benefits of working for the snakes at Fox.

I agree. I can’t imagine anyone at Fox News apologizing for anything.  Least of all Gibson or O’Reilly.  In fact, I bet it was so hard for Gibson to do his “I’m sorry” segment that Fox News had to force him at gunpoint.  That is probably why he seems so hesitant in the video clip.

John Gibson is coming under fire for his quotes that the FCC and even the lunatic fringe media “watchdog” group MRC, (Media Research Center), is calling for the cancellation of his radio show. The Radio Factor was cancelled on 300 radio stations that had his show after his racist remarks about the NYC restaurant, 1500 advertisers including Saturn of RT 23 and RT 23 Honda, and Geico all pulled their ads from his radio show. The same is gonna happen to Gibson trust me.

48
Partlow Says:

I’ll give him some credit for apologizing. It’s WAY more than O’Reilly would do. But the man is filled with hate. Remember this (from Mediamatters):

On the August 10, 2007, broadcast of his radio show, Gibson and Angry Rich mocked Stewart for emotional remarks he made shortly after the 9-11 attacks. While airing a clip of Stewart’s remarks from the September 20, 2001, edition of The Daily Show, Gibson mimicked Stewart and sarcastically interjected, “Oh, God, Jon. Just tell me it’s not true,” and, “Oh! That’s great. I’m — God, I’m touched.” Before playing the clip, Angry Rich asked, “Do you remember what the media was like shortly after 9-11?” Gibson answered, “Oh, Jon Stewart sobbing.” After the clip concluded, Angry Rich called Stewart a “phony.”
