BREAKING: McCain's Placement on Indiana Ballot Challenged
By Nicole Belle Tuesday Feb 19, 2008 5:37pmI received this from an emailer:
This afternoon, Thomas Cook, a voter in Bloomington, Indiana, filed a complaint with the Indiana Election Commission challenging John McCain's place on the ballot for the May 6 primary. If this complaint is successful, McCain WILL NOT be on the ballot in Indiana on May 6.
According to Indiana law, a presidential candidate can only get on the ballot if he or she collects 500 signatures in each Congressional District. Even though the incumbent Governor (who is up for reelection) is McCain's Indiana state chair, McCain fell 9 signatures short in the 4th Congressional district -- the most Republican district in one of the most Republican-leaning states in the country.
As astonishing as the McCain campaign's incompetence may be, the audacity of its response is even worse. In order to avoid a major embarrassment, the McCain campaign did what Republicans typically do when confronted with their incompetence: they called in their cronies.
Despite the fact that the McCain campaign clearly failed to qualify for the ballot, Republican Attorney General Steve Carter and Republican Secretary of State Todd Rokita (who recently endorsed McCain) rubberstamped it anyway, trying to sneak McCain onto the ballot. Clearly, the Republican Culture of Corruption is alive and well within the McCain campaign.
I'm trying to secure a copy of the complaint right now and will update the post shortly.
UPDATE: Complaint available at link above. Thomas Cook blogged his story here.

Makes it easier for me to not vote for him here.
Hey, what's the complaint.
Dead people voted for JFK in Cook County in 1960.
Disclosure: Am a Lamont Democrat.
No surprise. Just gotta see who benefits...and uh...you know....
With all the questionable things going on around this election from many, many states, um.........has there ever been a US election that was honest and real? I mean, all these things don't just "happen" all of a sudden.
BLACK OUT HIS PERSONAL INFO, LIKE HIS ADDRESS. You don't want any crazy wackos to burn his house down, for a crazy reason such as "going against God's candidate"
And Lou Dobbs is doing a segment on the NAFTA Super Highway and opposition to it today on his show.
Another Breaking Headache for McCainiac: Accused of Plagiarizing Use of ‘My Friends’ From ‘MySpace’
lol
I hope this goes to court.
If they're to incompetent to collect all the signatures they deserve to suffer for it.

Here's more of the story. Link to the complaint is included, but it is a simple form.
LMAO @ McIncompetent.
jebus.love.me @ 5:
I agree. Don't put all of this guy's personal info out there.
Lucky for McCain, it looks like the Notary forgot to stamp the form! Oh, the irony.
MCain will win by U.S.S.C. decision.
People have forgotten 2000 by now.
I can just see it. Obama says will not Concede. James Baker seen toting Legal Briefcase into Court.
This would be great news if it was earlier in the primary schedule. But, to hear it now is just like "So What?"
1) It won't impact him getting the nomination
2) MSM media has already given him a pass on Keating5, lies about his stance on IRAQ, "It's like a market in Indiana", flip flops, and everything else you can name.
3) This won't ever become a story other than a very minor blip even if his name is removed from the ballot.
It is very interesting to note though the sheer incompetence and corrupt aspects of his campaign. But, other than that it's a complete waste of your time to go further. I think what you already noted should be enough.
Focus on his plethora of other issues. Every minute you write on this could be a minute you write on something else. That's all I'm saying.
I always wonder if 50 liberal blogs constantly updating the same Bush corruption stories on C&L, DKOS, FDL, etc.. could be time much better spent?
I think the answer is generally "hell yes", but every now and then one commenter or different set of eyes comes up with something uniquely interesting.
But, even so, I don't think that outweighs the mounds of redundancy and wasted energy across the left that we never seem to turn into something more powerful.
We are all aware of how corrupt they are. We either have to do more to educate those that aren't on liberal blogs or find other avenues. I just feel like so much time is spent writing and not enough time doing.
But, I also admit I don't have the magic answer to force the end of state sponsored lies and propaganda. I just know a lot of energy is wasted in the way we try.
Myself included...
That's why I call them filthy republicans.
Never, EVER vote for a republican. There is strength in numbers, so make their numbers plummet.
And Clarence Thomas will announce McCain winner no doubt.
jebus.love.me @ 5:
Thanks for that reminder, I changed the link to a blacked out jpeg version.
500 signatures per district? McCain couldn't even get 500 signatures? I could get 500 signatures per district for Elmer Fudd. Pathetic.
Oh, and as for the "JFK did it too" argument about election shenanigans - it has no bearing whatsoever on this issue. Election fraud is election fraud, on either side, in any decade. It's always wrong. Bringing up JFK as some counter-argument to this is a logical fallacy called the tu quoque fallacy.
Jones @ 19:
Everybody hates the Clintons.
So This has to be Clinton's fault.
Thats ok. Those voting machines will still make sure he wins.
L.A. Confidential @ 20:
A few of McAirForce's senile supporters "forgot" to sign...well, bingo was going on, and then the afternoon gospel singalong, so...it's understandable!!
Jones @ 19:
Yeah, but Elmer Fudd is a likeable old guy...
He will get on the ballot. The states Republican leadership will "find" the missing signatures.

Don't forget, McCain was born in Panama - he isn't eligible to run as he wasn't born in the USA.
Not that anyone is hearing about it...
SKdeA @ 25:
That's because it isn't true. He was born on a US military base in Panama. Considered American soil, just as a US embassy anywhere in the world is considered American soil.
Wheres Gore? Coldest, nastiest winter in decades and we're being smashed by our heating bills.
Where's the global warming?
SKdeA @ 25:
He was born on a air-force base, that counts as a natural born citizen. Sorry.
L.A. Confidential @ 27:
Wait till those missiles are launched at the satellite. Things are sure to warm up then.
ConcernedCanuck @ 29:
Oh and Gore was worshipped to death. Tragic really. Seems his adoring fans petted him to death.
SKdeA @ 25:
It was in the "American-controlled" Panama Canal Zone. Coco Solo Air Base.
Hell yes I'm a Murican!
Jones @ 19:
Absolutely correct. And there's also the little mentioned fact that repubs in the rest of the state were busily faking votes for Nixon...
ConcernedCanuck @ 30:
Well I don't suppose it would be good business hitting the circuit with Global Warming Speeches this winter.
L.A. Confidential @ 27:
OH LA, did you hear what British Columbia is doing to combat global warming? David Suzuki, renowned scientist and usually thought of as an intelligent guy, backs it completely. Seems BC has decided the best thing to do about global warming is to take the leading steps. So what have they done? Oh, they introduced the latest tax increase. Carbon tax. Imagine that. There could be a giant friggin meteor heading to destroy the earth, and the first thing politicians would do is create a meteor tax.
ConcernedCanuck @ 26:
It's never been decided by a court under the State Department's current citizenship standards, but SK is probably right given the judiciary's makeup.
L.A. Confidential @ 33:
He waits till July and August. Seems to be the pattern.
Stosselitiphobic @ 35:
Just his prowar stance proves beyond the shadow of a doubt that he is a Republican American. No doubt about it.
L.A. Confidential @ 36:
I heard he's gone to Jenny Craig to reduce his carbon footprint......hahahaha
ConcernedCanuck @ 34:
Oh yeah the Carbon Credit Scheme. Has to be a way to bilk a few extra trillion out of people.
...did what Republicans typically do when confronted with their incompetence: they called in their cronies.
You mean that they'd already run through:
Lie,
Misconstrue,
Blame Clinton (either one, bonus for twofer),
Prevaricate,
Misdirect,
Blame Liberals,
Project,
Cry terror!1!!,
Whine,
Distort,
Punt,
Raise color code threat level,
Obfuscate,
Blame Pelosi/Reed/Congress,
Evade,
Deceive,
Whine some more,
Falsify,
Distract,
Blame liberal media,
Kill Al Qaeda No. 3,
Create false controversy,
Sacrifice one of their own (junior member or already washed up hack),
Start new war,
Start rumors of new wars,
Send 5th Fleet into gulf,

Blame Clinton(s) again,
Deride activist judges,
Steal from the treasury,
Push pole,
Plant false story on Drudge, and
Lie some more?
Pete @ 10:
#153, thanx!
:)
Oh gee, big deal. We have a governor here who was never a resident prior to being elected. Indiana requires one year residency to run for office. He had a motor home and a po box for 9 months. 9 signatures short? I'm sure ditch Mitch is forging away right now.
Huckiana?
ohh please let the challenge be upheld!!!!!!
it would be sooo funny!!!
Gary @ 21:
EXACTLY!
VietVet8666 @ 2:
and you should be one of them?
BREAKING:
mccain has been tied to a female lobbyist before his first presidential run. their relationship has been noted to be "close"
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/21/us/politics/21mccain.html?hp
Breaking News MSNBC!
McCain may have a relationship with lobbyist, Vickie Iseman.
Turn on MSNBC, all hell if breaking loose against McCain.
McCain had a senior moment. He's still wondering what's all the fuss over India.
mcinsane seems to want to put his dickey in everything
he can. what a fucking hypocrit, but this is typical repug...
they are all retarded sexual perverts.
The problem with McCain not being on the ballet is that Huckabee might get more delegates.
ctk in ky3 @ 47:
MSNBC is all over this now.
At least there's one thing we can count on: As much as the media loves them some McCain, they love a sex scandal so much more...
dadams @ 51:
What's new? All of these repugs are addicted to Viagra. No wonder they can't control their urges.
Aren't all Repubs notorious adulterers or gay? Or both?!
The signatures were probably too busy trying to get a gay marriage ban on the ticket which is ridiculous, because it's already banned in this state. Dumb-asses.
"They called in their cronies ..."
OK, I'll bite--as opposed to what? What would a Democrat have done in that circumstance? Or, to those jaded about the workings of both parties, what would you have done?
So "sure bet" Hillary screws up the strategy of her campaign throughout and now trails a relatively unknown candidate coming down the stretch, and McCain shows why we can't possibly survive a Presidency with him in the Oval Office - he just doesn't dot all the "i's" and cross all the "t's" necessary to be an effective leader. It's as if both McCain and Clinton both feel that they are "OWED" the Presidency, and didn't figure they needed to do anything until AFTER their nominations.
Wow.....sometimes I wonder why I country is so screwed up. But these "lifer" politicians quickly do something that reminds me why.
This is not real news. This is thoughtless partisan crap. We can do better. McCain will win Indiana if it comes down to that; this post is utterly disregardable (if hopeful) innuedo.
We Obama supporters don't need to bend over for this kind of "story."
Keep some integrity people. Recognize garbage as garbage.
And please don't give breath to the McCain "lobbyist" scandal. We Dems think politics is about doing, rather than being. Don't get it confused.
Sincerely,
Lister
Believe it or not, in 1988 both George H. W. Bush and Michael Dukakis legally failed to be put on the Indiana ballot for the Presidential race. If I remember correctly, only David Duke, Lenora Fulani, Ron Paul and Willa Kenoyer had legally submitted their applications. Bush and Dukakis were allowed on the ballots only after the court ruled it.
so if this is about experience and judgement, which ultimately it surely is, I would say JM is having a very bad night no matter how one looks at it. told to stay away from the sexkitten lobbyist while married to the bottle blonde. yet he couldn't. and then there's keating. and then there's indiana. heck, my hoosier relatives are all red staters. and so far none are for the mcIraq.
To sitemonitor and C&L team:
You guys may want to post an entry about McCain (which is 100% true by the way):
He was born in Panama Canal Zone, which was not a part of the US the year he was born (1936), which means he cannot even be President, as the law states all Presidents must be American born.
In 1936, the US had LEASE RIGHTS on the Panama Canal Zone, but not TERRITORIAL RIGHTS.
This means McCain is INELIGIBLE to be President.
Maybe the Chimp's tenure will put an end for all time on the Bush Crime Family's political dynasty/aspirations.
