John Amato’s virtual online magazine…OK, It’s a blog!

Are they running for President or Pastor-in-Chief?

Don’t answer that, Mister Huckabee. And the pandering is on both sides of the aisle. This video from The Interfaith Alliance proves what I said in December of 2006, that athiest author “Sam Harris and company will have to hold their noses when Obama gives his acceptance speech in Denver…”

The most glaring example has to be Tim Russert’s “favorite Bible verse” debate question. I would have answered, “Why Tim! It’s John 11:35! You know, “Jesus wept.” And if he heard your stupid, pandering question, he’s weeping again today.”

On topic are Bruce Wilson’s excellent article, “How Fake American History Feeds Christian Nationalism,” and The Reverend Barry Lynn’s editorial, “Thou Shalt Not Mix Religion and Politics.”

Pastor-in-Chief isn’t quite the right term, I think - it’s more like Earthly-Mouthpiece-of-the-CHRISTIAN GOD-in-Chief.

Does anyone believe that a non-Christian would ever stand a chance of being elected in America? America is completely enmeshed with Christianity now, much to the dismay of Atheists like me. We Atheists are going to find out just how kind, loving and tolerant these Christians really are once they start purging us from their God blessed America.

Everybody quotes the Jesus wept line. I get it. I remember how it was a staple for simplicity and depth when searching for an example in writing classes about twenty years ago.

What are some of the snappier Old Testament “Holy-Shit-Am-I-Gonna-Make-You-Pay” lines? Those could come in handy.

the candidates have been forced into this position because of the power given to the bible thumpers

18
Bit NOLA Says:

In point of fact, the old scholars misread the original on the Jesus wept line.

It should have read “Jesus swept.” Everybody knows this. It’s all about context.

See? Still short and punchy. Lots of mystery there still. What did he sweep? Where did he sweep it? Where’d he get the broom? Why wasn’t there someone around to seep for him? And so on.

really, i don’t care if an otherwise good candidate does his lip service to jeebus. i just have to hope he stops it once he’s prez.

DrBadger Says:

Even the most “liberal” politician ignores the separation of church and state. Otherwise how can pretty much the entire house vote for a bill “supporting Christianity” last December. Either the country is plain stupid or there are a lot of politicians out there who don’t have the balls to stand up for the constitution (I was hoping Kucinich would, but no). The idiots (yes, anyone who thinks faith is more important than good ideas is an idiot) own this country and the rest of us who think rationally can’t (or won’t) do anything about it.

Mr. McCain has a long family history in the Epicopal church, but he’s now a Baptist. His church belongs to the dreaded Southern Baptist Confederacy, or whatever they’re calling themselves these days.

He needs to be poked with a few pointed questions.

Oh things like the separation of church and state, prayer in schools, creationism, and the relative age of the universe. And of course, how did Noah get pairs of all the dinosaurs on the Ark. What was Jesus’ favorite dinosaur. Things like that.

1) How about “Render unto Caesar?” Seems like the Fundies want to make themselves Caesar.

2) Dumbasses (the ones who want to be God’s mouthpieces). If God really existed He wouldn’t care, nor would He choose Mike Huckabee as His mouthpiece. Ares, OTOH, sounds like a likely candidate for Mike Huckabee’s God.

3) My favorite Bible verse is this: “These people honor Me with their hearts, but their heart is far from Me.” Spoken, as a matter of fact by that God-complexed, radical, non-conformist socialist dark-skinned big-nosed Hebe Jesus the Christ quoting YHWH of the Old Testament whining about Israel not obeying Him again. Seems like Christians really are the new Israel, eh?

In a just world, John Hagee would get smote by YHWH for wanting to join the club of Nebduwhatsit and Sennacherib in trying to wipe out His people the Israelites and for mocking the Shoah. Has YHWH done so? No.
