The Clock is Ticking - 325 Days 13 Hours to 01-20-2009

I don't know what is more depressing. Our political system or the intellectual indifference of the American people. They swallow the tripe Republicans feed them, then have the balls to say they are informed. The people who watch Faux news are the problem. The are mindless sheep waiting to be fleeced by the corporate masters. They wait for the rapture blindly teling us they are the chosen people.

I'm becoming a big supporter of the End Times if that's what it takes to rid us of these envangelicals.

This is from the original fox story about the robots.

"That may sound farfetched, but in fact iRobot, which makes the Roomba cleaning robots, also makes bomb-defusing and surveillance robots for the Pentagon.

The company encourages reprogramming of the Roomba, and has even created a special version strictly for hackers and tinkerers."

Can you just see the FBI breaking into people's houses confiscating their little vacuums and the little vacuums running all around trying to escape.

If the IRS wants to start investigating Churches for TAX EXEMPT Status, I'm all for it.
Start with Robertson, then Falwells outfit, Then all the other fleecers.
Far as I'm concerned religions are what wrong with the world in general.
I watched the Obama tape, it doesn't appear to be a political call to the people of that church, but if they ever actually did anything like that, then they should get their status removed AFTER Robertson, Falwell, Haggard etc.

OIL HITS $103 A BARREL!!!

Letterman had a short 'Bush Countdown' bit two nights ago. It was really funny.
(..."Bush calls it a Slowdown, not a recession...").

I tried to find a video clip but to no avail.
Can anyone find it and post it here? -- everyone should have a chance to see it.
Thanks

I don't know what is more depressing. Our political system or the intellectual indifference of the American people. They swallow the tripe Republicans feed them, then have the balls to say they are informed. The people who watch Faux news are the problem. The are mindless sheep waiting to be fleeced by the corporate masters. They wait for the rapture blindly teling us they are the chosen people.

It isn't just Faux Snooze though. Who held the debates? Diff Networks. Now why would ANY politician debate on a television station? At one time, networks COVERED debates, they didn't host them. It's pathetic drivel. When one politician screams "bias" it is all utter bullshit. The media is just as in love with one, or the other. They don't care. These people are bought and paid for.

Assuming the dire consequences listed at the Smirking Chimp ["The things they wont discuss"] are truly about to come to pass, and assuming that the human race is actually capable of arriving at a consensus that "Yes, drastic measures must be taken, and they must be taken now", I'd like to know just what list drastic measures we puny human beings are going to be able to come up with that will provide a solution to any of the problems on that list.

Who has the real knowledge and understanding necessary to the solving of any of those problems? Just which "experts" on these matters do we go to? What technologies exist that will help us to put these solutions in place? I see a lot of hand-wringing going on, but when all is said and done, I doubt there's anyone on the planet who has any answers for anything on the list. There are no "Star Trek" Genesis planet terraforming bombs in existence, no ancient Martian "Total Recall" oxygen-generation systems laying around buried waiting for Ahnold to come along and throw the switch. Just what answers do people think are out there to be had, and where are they going to go to get them?

That robot story was just to comical. Fox News really is hitting new lows with the scare tactics. First it was with the so called "suit case" nukes which, as I have heard are very complicated to make and deploy effectively without being detected. I don't even need to mention the problems associated with containing radiation while the "nuke" is being transported. It makes no sense to deploy a "suit case nuke" knowing full well that your carrier(s) might end up dead or incapacitated well before they reach their intended target.

Now Fox News says that we have robots being used by terrorists. To me, this, just like the "suit case nukes" aren't very realistic. I mean, Honda has worked hard on their robots for example just to get them to walk and dance. Now we are expected to believe that "the terrorists" have the capability and resources available to build or buy a robot, program or re-program it, and then expect that robot to carry out its instructions exactly as directed while not being detected well before hand? That takes some serious know how to do. Now, someone could set up a simple robot to pull a trigger on a mounted weapon via remote control or something but that wouldn't produce the desired results.  This robot story just isn't to practical or realistic.  Especially since the old fashioned car bomb is cheaper to pull off as well as more effective as we have seen numerous times in Iraq.

No worries...I'm sure Robert the Robot (Fireball XL-5), Robbie the Robot (Forbidden planet), Robot (Lost in Space), Johnny 5 (Short Circuit). Gigantor, Astroboy and The Eighth Man will protect us.

And if all else fails...we can unleash Mechnagodzilla.

We need to recruit more bloggers. That will save America.

If the cyborgs couldn't reprogram Data, I'm not worried about the terrorists, YET.

Afghanistan mission close to failing - US
Injection of troops and aid has not brought stability says intelligence chief

"After six years of US-led military support and billions of pounds in aid, security in Afghanistan is "deteriorating" and President Hamid Karzai's government controls less than a third of the country, America's top intelligence official has admitted.

Mike McConnell testified in Washington that Karzai controls about 30% of Afghanistan and the Taliban 10%, and the remainder is under tribal control."

NAFTA keeps rearing it's fugly head.

As members of Congress who voted against NAFTA in 1994, we were surprised to hear the Clinton campaign’s assertion that Senator Hillary Clinton was opposed to NAFTA from the start. It would have been helpful to know we had an ally in the White House back then, but at no time throughout our long fight did Hillary Clinton ever indicate publicly or privately that she was on our side.

As best we could tell, Hillary Clinton shared the Clinton administration’s view that NAFTA would create better jobs and spur faster growth, and that while it might erode workers’ rights and protections, the benefits of the deal would far outweigh its costs.

Those were the promises we heard from the Clinton administration, but as we’ve seen, those promises were not kept. Over a million jobs have been lost, wages have fallen, inequality has widened, and those who’ve been hardest hit are working folks in states like Texas, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Since these states are holding elections in the next few weeks and months, we understand why it’s smart politics for the Clinton campaign to say that Hillary Clinton opposed NAFTA all along – but if she did, it’s news to us.

We’re supporting Senator Barack Obama because as he says, “politics didn’t lead him to working folks; working folks led him to politics.” The reason he became a community organizer more than two decades ago was to help provide job training for the jobless when the local steel plants closed. And as President, he’ll fight for American workers by amending NAFTA and supporting trade deals that work for Main Street, not just Wall Street.

It’s time we had a President who knows that standing up for working Americans isn’t a matter of politics; it’s a matter of principle. And that’s the kind of president we believe Barack Obama will be.

Concerned Canuck is right. CNN, MSNBC< all of them have a corporate agenda. Remember Tweety drooling over Bush in the famous "Mission Accomplished" moment? Yhe fact Bush drooped to a mere 19% wasn't even mentioned. All it is, is Hillary and Obama. Even McCain is barely mentioned. Revolting, really.

These guys seem to forget something. The next Prez can't unilaterally amend NAFTA, and chances are, renegotiating it will probably be even worse. At least from Canada's point of view, where lumber and natural resources are concerned, we gots shafted. And continue to be. Jobs? What jobs? We didn't take them. Most of our jobs the last few years have been the result of Foreign investment (mostly Japanese).

They are making a new Terminator with Christian Bale in it. Read it the other day online. Not sure, but not quite as "robotic" as Arnie.
