Put togeather a response to the wingnuts who like to emphasize Obama's middle name, and defend it by whining pittifully "it's his name isn't it? What is wrong with that?" Thought I'd post it here first.
For the past 7 years we have been conditioned to fear anything percieved as islamic, to fear people that appear middle eastern, and especially to fear the threat of Saddam Hussain.
Those working against Obama's campaign have worked long and hard to tie that fear onto him. From mispronouncing/spelling his name Osama, to spreading false rumors that he is muslim, to phony news stories about attending a madrassa. This emphasis on his middle name is just the latest ploy in trying to spread people's fear onto him as well. Anyone who defends using his middle name ask them how often they used McCain's middle name, or the middle name of Huckabee, Romney, Ron Paul, Kusinnich, John Edwards, Mike Gravel, Fred Thompson. Do they even know any of those people's middle names?
And to the denials I would like to reply with an old saying: "Don't piss down my back and tell me its raining"
Speaking of wardrobe function...and I know John hates conspiracty theories...but with the Pats in the Superbowl this year again, I had this weird thought during the halftime show.
1. The Jacksons are devout Jehovah Witnesses but the kids pretty much whore themselves out for a buck
2. The religious right needed to get everyone all riled up about the 'decline of American Television' so they could get the FCC to fine the hell out of people and bring back state sponsored censorship.
What if the Religious right paid Janet Jackson some $$$ to do the whole wardrobe malfunction bit so they could energize their base, really make a non-story a big story, and go on their moral crusade that has really thrown fear into the networks? Sort of like indecencies own September 11th?
