al Qaeda in Iraq far stronger than Bush will admit

Never a shortage of good news coming out of Iraq.
Al-Qaida is in Iraq to stay. It's not a conclusion the White House talks about much when denouncing the shadowy group, known as al-Qaida in Iraq, that used the U.S. invasion five years ago to develop into a major killer.
The militants are weakened, battered, perhaps even desperate, by most U.S. accounts. But far from being "routed," as Defense Secretary Robert Gates claimed last month, they're still there, still deadly active and likely to remain far into the future, military and other officials told The Associated Press.
It's really amazing how we turned a contained country with no ties to the terrorist threat against us into a breeding ground for those very same people. What a brilliant foreign policy we have.

Yeah, they`re still there, still deadly active and likely to remain far into the future. Yes, its amazing, Osama Bin Laden got what he wanted, and the Neocons got their piece of the action along with Big Oil and the all mighty Military Machine. Meanwhile the Russians and the Chinese can continue to watch this truly great Black Comedy and mark time. What was that the great Decider said," Bring it On"?
AQ in Iraq may still be there... but they are not even close to being the real force behind the Iraqi anti-occupation resistance. That force, as one reads time after time, is made up of real Iraqis... PO'd and disempowered Sunnis, moneyed Baathists, score settling Shi militias and the common thugs & criminals ever-present in a collapsed society. AQ in Iraq's foreign fighters are routinely reported at abotu 5% of all insurgents in the country. Sometimes they perpetrate spectacular, or at least widely reported, terrorist action. But, unlike the Iraqi resistance fighters, they are not the real cause of instability there.
Once western forces depart Iraq, AQ in Iraq will be the new "foreigner" targets for a wrathful Iraqi population.

Would people PLEASE stop buying this "al Qaeda" crap! We start paying the Sunnis of Anbar $300/mo to not kill us and, miraculously, the attacks on US forces end nearly overnight. Part of that bribe was to promise those same Sunnis jobs within the predominantly _Shiite_ military and police forces of a _Shiite_ government. Now that the members of this Anbar "Awakening Council" are finally awakening to the total unreality of that prospect, the attacks are beginning to increase. There have been many, many clues to this in the recent news.
So, while I'm sure there IS some tiny al Qaeda faction in Iraq, most of the problems for US forces come from the FAR more numerous Iraqi EX-military types made unemployed through Bremer's _STUNNINGLY STUPID_ move of firing them all along with all of the Bath Party members who could keep the water treatment, power plants and other mechanisms of government running (as best they could considering the US created damage to the infrastructure).
bush is leaving office.....mcain has to go also, as do ALL republicans, involved in the iraq crap.
