Brad DeLong: A century ago we had banks. They created systemic risk. We decided to regulate them in order to limit the systemic risk they could create. That was wise. Now we have non-banks. They create systemic risk…

“….Hate Radio has had copies of these sermons for months. I believe that they have been chortling together as they viewed the videos. They may have even photoshopped Obama into the front row at these sermons. And, like President Truman at the Yalta Conventions (just after we perfected the atom bomb), I feel that Hate Radio felt that they had “the video bomb” that would destroy Obama’s chances…..”

The trick is to take the items that are coming out in the headlines and sort through all the meaningless crap to nail down what the long range consequences of current policies will be.
I’m all for letting the fat cats who brought us the Bear Stearns debacle (let’s call it BS) stand out on the corner with a tin cup. That’s where they belong.

PHILADELPHIA — Democratic Sen. Barack Obama on Tuesday tried to stem damage from divisive comments delivered by his pastor, while bluntly addressing anger between blacks and whites in the most racially pointed speech yet of his presidential campaign.
I believe in reality it is a very small percentage of blacks and whites in this country who are pissed off at each other.
The rest of us get along just fine.
L.A. Confidential @ 6:
Seriously blacks and whites would be at war with each other in the streets if it was bad as the lame stream media idiots makes it out to be.
When will Amato, et. al., denounce Nicole’s invention and promotion of violence?

A GREAT SPEECH!
those arguing that they know what is best for business (the “free” market advocates, the market fundamentalists, the neoliberals, the supply-siders, etc.) have adopted an ideological position that actually will end up destroying the economy.
maybe those that profess their belief in the omnipotence of a “free” and unregulated market are actually communist infiltrators, because their prescription for a sound capitalist economy, adhered to by both dems and reps, is proving to be an abject failure.

John handcuffed and chained her to the radiator in the basement last night as punishment and discipline.
I think she has two more hours down there then she can come upstairs for breakfast.
Haven’t seen video yet, but this is a GREAT speech by Obama:
“A More Perfect Union”
“The fact that so many people are surprised to hear that anger in some of Reverend Wright’s sermons simply reminds us of the old truism that the most segregated hour in American life occurs on Sunday morning. That anger is not always productive; indeed, all too often it distracts attention from solving real problems; it keeps us from squarely facing our own complicity in our condition, and prevents the African-American community from forging the alliances it needs to bring about real change. But the anger is real; it is powerful; and to simply wish it away, to condemn it without understanding its roots, only serves to widen the chasm of misunderstanding that exists between the races.”

Right next to these headlines we’re now seeing the full-on atomic meltdown of our nation’s financial system, something aided, abetted, initiated, fomented, and lovingly churned to a fine curdle by the Bush Administration and their free-market-droid capitalists. Obama’s pastor issues are going to be completely forgotten in a week as American scramble to keep afloat.
I’m not exactly gleeful about this, mind you. I’m just as likely to get sunk as the next poor slob. But it is worth noting that this election will be about BIG FUCKING ISSUES, and not likely to be distracted by yammering idiots trying to drag our candidates down with character assassination. Which means Clinton and McSplain got some, ‘Splainin to do. Since they’ve both been a big help to the head-crushingly stupid elite who brought us to this pass.

Diesel prices statewide have risen to $4.07 per gallon, the second consecutive record-setting day.
The $4.08 per-gallon average in Indianapolis was also an all-time high, according to AAA, which tracks prices nationwide. Truckers and others stopping in Fort Wayne will pay even more - an average of $4.17.
Indiana is one of 21 states where the price is at least $4.
“Across this country, the more that Iraqis have gotten to know the Americans — the nature of our intentions and the character of our soldiers — the better they have felt about the United States of America,” Dick of all Dicks Cheney.

Contrary to the assertions of a certain back-stabbing Democratic Presidential candidate, one of the jobs of the President, or in fact of any leader, is to articulate a shared vision for those whom they purport to lead. Obama is excellent at doing this which is why he’s getting such a good response. Americans have listened for seven years to a drooling imbecile yammer on incoherently about issues of which he is entirely ignorant. It’s a breath of fresh air to listen to someone who actually is saying something, making sense, and saying something that needs to be said.

With less than a year left in Shrub’s presidency, it isn’t an economic meltdown, it’s an economic shakedown, where the corporate jackasses are trying to steal as much from the taxpayer as possible, before the next Prez has no choice but to halt the corporate welfare a bit. Greedy crooks to the end.
Watching Wall Street rally above 250 makes me sick. What about the millions who will lose their homes? My mother had the balls to say people are getting what they deserve. Really? In my mothers day We didn’t have comglomerates that controled everything. You didn’t need a lawyer to spell out the fine print in your credit card application. It pisses me off when I hear the older generations blaming little ole us.

One of the most amazing speeches I have ever heard. I found myself crying at one point. He opened up the subject of race and spoke of it as I have never heard anyone else speak.
If he isn’t our next president, we have lost a great opportunity in this country.
Crooks and Liars not only dropped the ball but missed a wide open pass by not having a blog post up about this historical speech. Wow. I am amazed.
Site Monitor: Did it occur to you that it takes time to make videos, convert them into different formats, track down transcripts, write a post and then get it published? Sheesh. We’ll get it up, we’re working on it. Try a little patience and a little less nastiness.

P.D. @ 18:
I look around where I live, and guess what? They do deserve to be going bankrupt. Whether the banks are stupid enough to loan the money or not, just who did Joe Blow think the government was going to bail out when push came to shove? Of course the banks and investors. They matter to the government, not Joe Blow. And what kind of idiot thinks they can afford a half million dollar home, when they earn squat for income? It was only a matter of time before this deck of cards crashed. Too many lower middle class wage earners wanted to look rich, driving the brand new SUV and living in the big mansions. It’s a sad reality.
steambomb @ 21:
Maybe they will put up one about it a little later. I’m so overwhelmed by the speech that I’m giddy.
steambomb @ 21:
They will. Patience.

WHAT ELSE DO YOU EXPECT?
FROM AMERICA’S GREEDIEST GENERATION?
Actually Concerned ,you are right in a way. Those McMansions are nothing but a symbol of greed. But the area I live in is much more, shall we say, lower middle class. And many of the people can’t even sell their home. The trickle down econonmics are a smashing success!
ConcernedHusseinCanuck @ 26:
You got that right.
Can’t believe he’s having to go out and lecture this country about race relations.
Of course since the Right Wing has been using the media to bring up race as a division tool to wipe out the Dems chances this year thats about all you can do.
Right Wing two prong attack. Get both Obama and Clinton in one shot..
This just in….

They made it clear that he wrote the speech himself. They said he worked late into the night for the past too nights writing this speech.
YouTube snippet.
P.D. @ 28:
A lot of those McMansions are also cheap pieces of crap also.
Horrible craftsmanship. Cheap 5th rate materials. Lots of them start falling apart within a year. Cracks in foundation pours, all kinds of nasty stuff.
L.A. Confidential @ 6:
Do you live in a majority black neighborhood?
Mine is 50/50 within one mile. Within two miles the black concentration increases.
We get along well but the area is the poorest in our Michigan county which is one of the most affluent.
As a country, we do not have anything approaching uniform integration.
There has been progress and you would be right to point to it but race still predicts economic status too much.
I feel personally that affirmative action needs to be class based rather than race based.
If Obama comes out with that, and probably only an African American could do it, he will be a person of astonishing courage.
P.D. @ 28:
I would wager they can’t sell them for many reasons. I know where I live, people are so far in debt, they need more for their homes than what they are worth on the market realistically, because they paid too much, and could never afford it in the first place. A guy on my block bought himself a 250,000 dollar home. He works for $14/hour and his wife does not work. They drive a brand new SUV. How long before he has to sell? Probably not long.

And I agree…if he doesn’t get elected…then this country will prove to the entire world that it’s chock full or racist morons.

Is the fix in? How is this remotely possible? The repugs are being outvoted in the primaries by 2 or 3 to 1. Is this one of those “If you repeat it often enough it’s true” type things? McCains rise from last to nominee in 2 months is already suspect to me. Republicans don’t even want him.
pissed off patricia @ 32:
That in itself would be downright amazing. Everything major politicians say is scripted. That is why the debates come off as “terrible”.
Right on LA! My husband is a contractor. The crap they use to build those bohemoths is criminal. I still with my little rancher. At least I know it will stand after another freaky wind storm. ( We been having a lot of them lately. Global Warming perhaps?)

Obama again delivers a great flowery speech. Big deal.
Anyone can read a teleprompter.
He is still not qualified to be president. Move on back to your day job, you know the one you barely held and ignore most of the time.
