Chris Wallace on FOX and Friends: "I heard enough Obama bashing"

After a few hours of taking Obama's "typical white person" quote and cutting it off---giving it the Hannity/FOX treatment, even Chris Wallace had enough and called FOX & Friends out on it. Now, being kind of cynical about FOX, I wonder if Wallace is speaking out because he's been crying that Obama won't go on FNS.

Hey listen, I love you guys but I want to take you to task if I may, respectfully, for a moment. I have been watching the show since 6:00 this morning when I got up, and it seems to me that two hours of Obama bashing on this typical white person remark is somewhat excessive and frankly I think you’re somewhat distorting what Obama had to say.
Far be it for me to be a spokesman for the Obama campaign, and I will tell you that they would laugh at that characterization, but you know, the fact is that after giving a speech on race earlier this week, on Tuesday, he gave a major speech on Iraq on Wednesday and a major speech on the economy yesterday. And so, I think they would say that in terms of deflecting attention away from the issues people really want to hear about, maybe it’s the media doing it, not Barack Obama.

Gee whiz....for several minutes there, FOX News actually lived up to the normally laughable "Fair and Balanced" slogan. Rupert will not be pleased.
I don't know why it happened but it sure was fun to watch. Getting your hand smacked in front of your audience can't feel too good. Each of them trying to defend what they had said sounded like three kids trying to explain to dad what they had done.
I don't know about you, but I am suspicious. Why would anyone on Fox News be defending a Democrat? It may very well be like John suggested hat Wallace feels hurt about not getting an interview. It also may be that that the Fox people see the writing on the wall - the Republican brand is sinking and it's not good to cast your lot with a sinking ship. Still, the tin foil hatter in me suspects something more sinister.
If I was a member of the pundit class I would react to this story in the normal fashion: by clutching my pearls and drinking a couple of apple martinis. But I'm not, so I won't.

Both of those guys make my skin crawl. The brown haired guy is the one who lifted the cobra out of the basket one morning on a snake hook. The guy who brought the cobra in the basket told him not to life it all the way up, but the brown haired guy did it anyway. There is an update at that link. Here's a bit of it. Wallace called in to Kilmeade's radio show today.
" Kilmeade and Wallace agreed with each other about the content of the show, and then there was a funny moment: Wallace asked, "How mad is Doocy at me?" and Kilmeade said, "He's mad. I'll be honesty, he's really mad," but then said that, hey, it was healthy to "mix it up once in a while." Kilmeade said he was glad Wallace spoke up even though "I'm in a minority on our show" — to which Wallace added: "And some of the executives." Oh, zing!"

A day off from work and I've had the chance to compare coverage of the top stories on CNN, FOX and MSNBC. Somebody needs to petition the FEC to require FOX to register as a Republican 527. I suspect that same thought may have occurred to Chris Wallace today.

Like I said in the other thread, this could explain why fox covered Obama's endorsement by Richardson today. They covered it live too and some of Obama's speech. That just isn't like fox to give Obama that much positive air time.

I don't know what the big mystery is. Fox news is engaged in "advocacy journalism" for the Republican party, essentially a non-stop running commercial for the GOP. Gotta be in a parallel reality to think otherwise.

I agree with some of the posters above. Chris Wallace isn't protecting OBAMA; he's protecting FOX NEWS and its brand by slamming Stocy etc for putting out CLUMSY propaganda...not the good covert stuff.
Say what you want about Fox but they know good propaganda. The fact that Fox is putting the Pastor/typical white person story out in front on every show affords even the dumbest of viewers (20%ers) the ability to recognize Fox is manufacturing controversy.
Why does Wallace care? Fox News is part of the right wing propaganda machine. Fox News works is because it carries at some creditability with 20%ers. Conservatives can't allow Fox to lose creditability among its dumbest viewers. Wallace is stepping in to save the machine. Wallace is jumping on Docy to give the appearance of fairness and balance to allow 20%ers to believe the big lie...FOX is fair and Balanced.
And to some degree there are some at Fox who are now figuring out that their career dead ends at FOX.

No one can say McCain was having a senior moment when on March 20, 2008 McCain said, without a flinch and without correction, that Iran is working with al Qaeda. He had said that 4 times in 1 day prior to that only to be corrected all 4 times ... then finally the 5th time he said it he said it was TRUE, no corrections, no senior moment. It was a deliberate untruth from McCain. Even the generals in Iran on the ground say al Qaeda is not working with Iran.
Does McCain have a hidden agenda to lead Armageddon? I am not sure America is safe with a President who thinks like that.
