Chris Wallace on FOX and Friends: "I heard enough Obama bashing"

icon Download | play icon Download | play (h/t Billw)

After a few hours of taking Obama's "typical white person" quote and cutting it off---giving it the Hannity/FOX treatment, even Chris Wallace had enough and called FOX & Friends out on it. Now, being kind of cynical about FOX, I wonder if Wallace is speaking out because he's been crying that Obama won't go on FNS.

Notice the "24" theme music?

Think Progress:

Hey listen, I love you guys but I want to take you to task if I may, respectfully, for a moment. I have been watching the show since 6:00 this morning when I got up, and it seems to me that two hours of Obama bashing on this typical white person remark is somewhat excessive and frankly I think you’re somewhat distorting what Obama had to say.

Far be it for me to be a spokesman for the Obama campaign, and I will tell you that they would laugh at that characterization, but you know, the fact is that after giving a speech on race earlier this week, on Tuesday, he gave a major speech on Iraq on Wednesday and a major speech on the economy yesterday. And so, I think they would say that in terms of deflecting attention away from the issues people really want to hear about, maybe it’s the media doing it, not Barack Obama.

Thank you so much! Now I get to watch these videos.

what got into him? flux, thats refreshing!!

Who the hell are you and what have you done with Chris Wallace????

Chris Wallace defending Obama? Has hell froze over?

I hope he goes on just to excoriate Wallace like Bill Clinton did. Fuck this sawed-off piece of GOP shit.

What in the hell!?

Let's give them something to talk about. One way to get the FOX News off the saturated Wright issue is to take the Challenge.

[Deleted. Would you please wait for an open thread to post this? It's off topic here. Thanks-Sitemonitor]

The smirks on their effin faces say it all, to me.

This is all a big joke, a big game with these juvenile pricks and divas.

I doubt that any of this means anything of substance to the Fox children. When some of you label corporate media talking heads as "whores", I now fully understand--and agree--with your assessment.

Maybe FOX 'News' is switching sides by grandstanding in a big way. Soon they'll be criticising CheneyBushCo et alia, and pig-piling on McCrazy, because they're finding out the money isn't on the side they've been heavily supporting.

I know. Me=cynic.

Love the reaction - "who, us?"

Piss off, Doocy. When Chris Fucking Wallace calls you out on that shit, you know you've gone overboard.

Gee whiz....for several minutes there, FOX News actually lived up to the normally laughable "Fair and Balanced" slogan. Rupert will not be pleased.

I don't know why it happened but it sure was fun to watch. Getting your hand smacked in front of your audience can't feel too good. Each of them trying to defend what they had said sounded like three kids trying to explain to dad what they had done.

I don't know about you, but I am suspicious. Why would anyone on Fox News be defending a Democrat? It may very well be like John suggested hat Wallace feels hurt about not getting an interview. It also may be that that the Fox people see the writing on the wall - the Republican brand is sinking and it's not good to cast your lot with a sinking ship. Still, the tin foil hatter in me suspects something more sinister.

If I was a member of the pundit class I would react to this story in the normal fashion: by clutching my pearls and drinking a couple of apple martinis. But I'm not, so I won't.

++++

The 'typical sports guy' line is typical Fox crass. I can't believe he dropped it on one of his colleagues though.

Maybe Chris can see the fact Americans aren't buying the same old crap any more. Members of my family have given up on Faux News. My father and his friends have long since fled. Only old white men and loners love Faux.

is this reverse logic friday?

My god...

Those FNF freaks are absolute cretins aren't they... ?!!?

I thought Chris Wallace was one of the kings of smarmy bastards... buy my gracious me.. He ain't got nothing on those wasted sacks of flesh...

Wow . . . someone grew a set!

Man, look at the way they make him feel like a jerk for calling them out. You could tell he was way nervous for rocking the boat. He called them out and made them feel uncomfortable. Way to go Wallace. You get props today from me.

Maybe fox is hearing from their African American viewers. Maybe those viewers are sick of the Obama bashing.

Wow, it was so bad that Chris freaking Wallace said they were being unfair to a Democrat?

It was so bad that another anchor walked off?

At Fox?

Wow

Lets see, Tuckers show got axed, Melenie Morgan gets fired, John Gibson gets shown the door. Do I see a trend?

Which one walked off? I read it a Huffington but I can't remember.

Excuse me, CHRIS

How 'bout an OSAMA watch?!? How many days has he been able to walk the earth free with out GW capturing him and bringing him to justice?!? You low life journalism HACK!

I think what he is saying is: "It is one thing to lean far right and get our talking points from the white house but we have to be a little more clever than this. Even the dumb shits that watch Fox regularly will be able to see through this crap. We can't be so obvious or even the 28% dumbest of the dumb will stop watching".

Now if we can only Limbaugh and Ingraham leave the airwaves, I'd be much happier person.

P.D. @ 23:

Also, Brian Kilmeade deserves some (a little) bit of acknowledgment for also quoting Obama's entire statement, rather than the three words they had been obsessing over.

Pissed off Patricia, It was Kilmeade.

P.D. @ 16:

Maybe Chris can see the fact Americans aren't buying the same old crap any more. Members of my family have given up on Faux News. My father and his friends have long since fled. Only old white men and loners love Faux.

Unfortunately, Fox News still gets the ratings. O'Reilly's show gets three times more viewers each night than Olberman's show. Despite this, maybe Chris wants to make his old man proud by becoming a real journalist and maybe getting the credentials to moving to a real news channel.

P.D. @ 33:

Pissed off Patricia, It was Kilmeade.

No, it was Wallace. The video link I posted includes the "walk off'.

Our we witnessing Republicans eating their own? And here I thought it was the Democrats that were in disarray.

No problem. :)

Will FOX fire Wallace? Will Hanitty and Colbes keep sniveling, Will Bill-o jump into the fire.

Stay tuned to Faux news for .... wait ... nevermind.

That was "mighty white" of Chris.

Brown-haired Guy who's not Steve Doocy.

Both of those guys make my skin crawl. The brown haired guy is the one who lifted the cobra out of the basket one morning on a snake hook. The guy who brought the cobra in the basket told him not to life it all the way up, but the brown haired guy did it anyway. The snake when lifted too high pushed off with his tail and crawled right over the edge of the basket and on to the floor. It was going toward the couch where the others were sitting and fast. Man, those people cleared out in every direction. No one got hurt but the rerun of it was funny as hell. That brown haired guy was such an idiot.

The FOX folks are not dumb; to the contrary just evil and cunning. They're becoming aware of a backlash gathering steam to expose the depth of their attempts to influence the election through for one the creation and distribution of the specifically selected snippets of Rev. Jeremiah Wright we've all been inundated with the past week.

Alas, an opportunity arises for the media to do what their profession expects from them; search for the truth, report it and take to task colleagues who threaten the integrity of the profession.

Below are links to the Christmas Day 2007 Sermon at Trinity Church of Christ by Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Wright, Jr., which FOX News acquired and disingenuously used to intentionally create a false and unrepresentative caricature of Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Jr., and by association Barack Obama. This was the service with the Hillary comment towards the end of the sermon. Below that is a link to a web site composed of Trinity sermons illustrating Sen. Obama's characterization of Rev. Wright to contrast with FOX's for you to use your own God given discernment.

Good on you Wallace. Every time I passed over Faux this week they've just been ragging on this "issue". Hannity's going to have a coronary very soon.

Woah. Big ups to Chris.

Fair and balanced bitch.

P.D. Says: Lets see, Tuckers show got axed, Melenie Morgan gets fired, John Gibson gets shown the door. Do I see a trend?

I would not be the least bit surprised to see Murdoch slant his empire to the left when the Dems take over. That's how much of an unprincipled douchbag he is.

Chris Wallace is the bastard son of Mike Wallace. The apple really feel far on that one.

Oh, that was funny. Almost as funny as when that one guy went on and pulled the "What is with Fox News? It's just a festival of ignorance." or something like that. Hilarious to watch these douchebags sit there and try to act like "what, this is 2008, us white people don't clutch our purses, and lock our car doors when a black person approaches! How absurd! Pffft.." I thought I'd never say this but kudos to Wallace for playing attack dog on the "festival of ignorance" of his "friends".

Is it possible that someone at Fox actually had a moment of journalistic integrity? Boy, you know it's gotten bad when one of their own has had enough. For the life of me I can't figure out how anyone can stomach watching Fox.

Well their whole reason to be is leaving office soon.

What are they going to do?
Bash President Obama?

The important thing is Chris Wallace told the truth. They aren't talking about Bill Richardson, or the visagate.

There is an update at that link. Here's a bit of it. Wallace called in to Kilmeade's radio show today.

" Kilmeade and Wallace agreed with each other about the content of the show, and then there was a funny moment: Wallace asked, "How mad is Doocy at me?" and Kilmeade said, "He's mad. I'll be honesty, he's really mad," but then said that, hey, it was healthy to "mix it up once in a while." Kilmeade said he was glad Wallace spoke up even though "I'm in a minority on our show" — to which Wallace added: "And some of the executives." Oh, zing!"

So Fox News is repeating ad nauseum that Obama is prejudiced against himself, against his mother, his grandmother?

Thanks! That's much better and probably much closer to the truth.

A day off from work and I've had the chance to compare coverage of the top stories on CNN, FOX and MSNBC. Somebody needs to petition the FEC to require FOX to register as a Republican 527. I suspect that same thought may have occurred to Chris Wallace today.

Chris Wallace acts like a newsman; I'm amazed.

Wow, a FOX guy with balls! You know this non story is almost dead when FOX guys are sick of it. The look on that overly tanned woman's face at the end of Wallace's rant was priceless.

Can what none dare say about Chris Wallace now be said?

Like I said in the other thread, this could explain why fox covered Obama's endorsement by Richardson today. They covered it live too and some of Obama's speech. That just isn't like fox to give Obama that much positive air time.

"It’s about time Chris, Your dad can now stop rolling over in his grave."

I was wondering if his dad was dead. Did he live to know his son was on Faux?

Or is that what killed him?

That wa fun, they sure started to squirm a bit ... no chris, what i meant to say, what I was trying to say, the way I was misunderstood ... er ... so are you gonna talk bad about us when we leave?

I agree with you RICO, they should have to Reg as a 527 if they keep going this way.

Kerry @ 72:

died of embarrassment and sorrow

I don't know what the big mystery is. Fox news is engaged in "advocacy journalism" for the Republican party, essentially a non-stop running commercial for the GOP. Gotta be in a parallel reality to think otherwise.

I think the Democrats should boycott Fox, because, otherwise, they lend Fox some legitimacy as a news organization.

P.D. @ 37:

ezpz, Your right. Sorry.

No, you're right. I stand corrected.
My apologies.

The longer Obama stays away from Faux the better.

Even their most ignorant viewer will have to wonder why.

did you see douchey start to stammer and i think his eye was twitching.
props to wallace...the sun shines on a dogs ass every once in awhile.

I agree with some of the posters above. Chris Wallace isn't protecting OBAMA; he's protecting FOX NEWS and its brand by slamming Stocy etc for putting out CLUMSY propaganda...not the good covert stuff.

Say what you want about Fox but they know good propaganda. The fact that Fox is putting the Pastor/typical white person story out in front on every show affords even the dumbest of viewers (20%ers) the ability to recognize Fox is manufacturing controversy.

Why does Wallace care? Fox News is part of the right wing propaganda machine. Fox News works is because it carries at some creditability with 20%ers. Conservatives can't allow Fox to lose creditability among its dumbest viewers. Wallace is stepping in to save the machine. Wallace is jumping on Docy to give the appearance of fairness and balance to allow 20%ers to believe the big lie...FOX is fair and Balanced.

And to some degree there are some at Fox who are now figuring out that their career dead ends at FOX.

What does Chris think about the 80,000 angry young men in Iraq armed to the teeth with weapons donated to them via the Bush surge. Wouldn't want to be in Iraq NOW...springtime??...5th anniversary??

I heard that the Brian Kilmeade is part black....Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Quick! Someone disinter and Goebbels to replace Wallace! And call Herbert West! Fox needs new punditry anyway...

YouTube Video McCain, Iran, Parsley, Hagee CALL FOR "ARMAGEDDON"

COMMERCIAL YOUTUBE CHALLENGE: The only way the MSM will pick this story up is with a YouTube video ... the only way to get the media start talking about something other than Wright ........

John McCain, Iran, Rod Parsley, John Hagee & Armageddon. Yes, Armageddon and their desire to invade Iran to begin Armageddon. Scenario and Details below.

Factual SCENARIO
John McCain falsely claims that al Qaeda is in Iran. Is McCain making those false statements because he believes the same things his spiritual guide Rod Parsley and John Hagee, who both want American son's and daughters to invade Iran to "usher in Armageddon," believe. Yes, you read that right, Armageddon.

* McCain's spiritual guide, Rod Parsley said, "Israel must be defeated by a Russian-Arab military alliance, perhaps preceded by a U.S. invasion of Iran, in order to usher in Armageddon and the second coming of Jesus."

* John Hagee said, "The United States must be in a pre-emptive military strike against Iran to fulfill God's plan ... a biblically prophesied end-time confrontation with Iran, which will lead to the Rapture, Tribulation, and Second Coming of Christ."

Look, McCain actively sought and fought for the endorsement of both Hagee and Parsley.

McCain knew before he actively sought and fought for their endorsement that BOTH Hagee and Parsley have wanted for YEARS for America's sons and daughters to invade Iran to begin "rapture, tribulation and the second coming of Christ." McCain knew their desires of Armageddon for years now and in spite of what he knew, McCain sought their endorsement and he named Parsley his spiritual advisor.

I mean, it wasn't like they came to McCain. No, McCain went to them, met with them and broke bread with them. The whole while McCain knew, in advance, that both those men want the world to end and they want American sons & daughters to be the first ones at ground zero invading Iran.

Now, while I think they're both crackpots, what a SCARY thought if John McCain became president and his spiritual advisor wants to invade Iran to begin Armageddon. And John McCain is walking around lying about al Qaeda working with Iran. That is the same false scare tactic Bush used to invade Iraq.

John McCain either showed WAY BAD JUDGMENT or he wants to invade Iran to being Armageddon too.

No one can say McCain was having a senior moment when on March 20, 2008 McCain said, without a flinch and without correction, that Iran is working with al Qaeda. He had said that 4 times in 1 day prior to that only to be corrected all 4 times ... then finally the 5th time he said it he said it was TRUE, no corrections, no senior moment. It was a deliberate untruth from McCain. Even the generals in Iran on the ground say al Qaeda is not working with Iran.

Does McCain have a hidden agenda to lead Armageddon? I am not sure America is safe with a President who thinks like that.

DETAILS
My COMMERCIAL YOUTUBE CHALLENGE: Make as many creative commercials as you can with McCain, Parsley, Hagee, Iran & Armageddon on YOUTUBE so we can watch Sean Hannity air those commercials incessantly while simultaneously listen to Hannnity talk about McCain's poor judgment for going out of his way to seek out Parsley & Hagee. Get some popcorn because you just KNOW Sean Hannity go in detail about how scary it would be to have a president like John McCain and his spiritual advisors in the White House.

"We don't follow talking points" That's what that was all about. Try and convince everyone that they aren't told what to say.

Fox and Freinds handle criticisn well, eh? Considering that one guy was outraged/horrified/ruined by Jeannie's (Barbara Eden's) navel, his opinions are, well, you decide. I can't take any of them seriously-- dickheads.

Sounds like FAUX is doing the same thing as the White House regarding their economic website.

They're scrubbing it to make it look like they were vanguarding a new movement, not resisting it.

Resistance is Futile.
