On Invasion's Anniversary, Protests and Pessimism
By JESSE McKINLEY
While there were more than 140 arrests in San Francisco and more than 30 in Washington, attendance was lighter than at protests in the early years of the Iraq war.
Open Thread! I love open thread. Time to breathe. Time to say what is really on your mind. Time to let others speak, to argue, to joke and poke. my favorite thread of every day.
I am so glad Obama is running. glad to see the racists running scared and showing their true colors. Looking for excuses to transport truth into bullshit and exposing themselves in the process. i look forward to the angry words and the hurt feelings. It is time to rend this racism from this land and get on with dealing with each other as the human beings we are.
Let the shit flying begin.
Anyone else feel like Mark Penn saying that Bill Richardson was irrelevant was kind of like Clinton saying that the states she lost didn't matter? So any vote for Clinton matters, any state/voter bloc/superdelegate for Obama is irrelevant? Do they really think this is a winning strategy, or are they flailing and trying to hit anything nearby?
See Reverend Jeremiah Wright assist in the heart surgery of our beloved president Lyndon B Johnson!

Shug @ 7:
I visited your site and left a comment. The tape of his entire sermon is what the MSM will never show.
He is right and being taken out of context as he was is bullshit.
I'm voting for Obama. They must really not like him if they are going through all this trouble to defame him.
States' Data Obscure How Few Finish High School

Federal figures gathered under the No Child Left Behind law hide a severe dropout epidemic, researchers say.
Don't know if any of you watched Bill Moyers tonight---but the "Body of War" was an excellent and sobering look at Tomas Young, a real victim of the Iraq war.

Powerful and compelling.
I am glad I found a solution to this crap back in the Reagan years. I said "The hell with this religion stuff". I am not a sinner anymore and live happily ever since. Mother Nature never called anyone a sinner.
Zuckerfrosch @ 6:
We progressives should not engage in the bashing of the Clintonistas. Let them thrash around uninterrupted, please. There is nothing new coming from that direction. We should not indulge them. The responses feed the false meme that the Dems are in-fighting. Above all, please don't feed the sHillBots.
Court Details Opposition to Bias in Jury Selection
By LINDA GREENHOUSE
The Supreme Court overturned the death sentence of a black man after ruling that a Louisiana prosecutor had used improper tactics to pick an all-white jury.
You think Crooks and Liars could put the picture up so that people will quit labeling this man as a hate monger.. he's the farthest thing from.
You guys thanks for your support! God Bless!
BaScOmBe whose saying "NO REPUGS" @ 14:
I am so sure Clinton would have said that if Richardson had endorsed her.
You know, I finally watched that movie "300". I know, I know, everyone has seen it but me. I resisted watching it for so long because it was a favorite of the right wing. I now know why they like it. Its pure propaganda and borders on fantasy. I was hoping to see more of a historical account of the Battle of Thermopylae but instead, they ruined it with a Persian army made up of Orcish looking immortals, a fat executioner with lobster like arms, and the like. I was tempted to turn the movie off several times and watch something else. That sort of movie belongs in comic books.
Joe O. @ 18:
No. You are wrong.
You are not (or were not) the only one who never saw it.
Speaking for myself, I would LOVE to live in a Christian Theocracy. I'd be the first one to sign up.
Since it would have to be administrated by evil men, however. Fallen creatures that they are.. such a thing is doomed to failure from the onset.
In light of this, I think I'll take personal rights and liberties, IE the Constitution, to protect my interests.
Since Jesus himself is not available to administrate, I feel the broad support of individual freedoms are the best method to preserve my own interests, and the interests of others.. Be they religious or secular.
Joe O. @ 18:
You do realize that the movie is an adaptation of a graphic novel, right? Frank Miller, most well known for his iconic The Dark Knight Returns and Sin City, wrote 300 back in the 90's. It's not supposed to be realism, it's almost a literal adaptation of the graphic novel in the way that Sin City was at times replicated panel for panel.
Jhoffa_ @ 20:
Ok, that was a little hard to decipher but i take it you are a religious person who wishes Jesus Christ ran a Theocracy and if any one else ran it it would fail, So you embrace the Constitution because you feel it allows you the freedom to embrace God.
I think...
BaScOmBe whose saying "NO REPUGS" @ 14:
A little ironic that comment. Consisting, as it does, entirely of insults.
Joe O. @ 18:
When that movie was being released, The History Channel was hyping it for all it's worth. After a while I just felt like "Fuck the Spartans!" Still haven't seen that movie (and I don't regret that for a minute).
Hi Peter G! :)
Your wit and inteligence is very welcome. :)
(So are you.)
Joe O. @ 18:
Hello...It's just a movie! Just like the bible is just a book!
xoites Hussein defends Constitution @ 22:
If Jesus Christ came back, he'd end up pissing off the fundies and the right wingnuts with his messages of inclusion and tolerance. BillO and Hannity would end up spinning him as a liberal loon.
xoites Hussein defends Constitution @ 25:
Thank you Xoites. I was following your exchanges on the thread below. You pretty much had it nailed so I didn't feel the need to intrude with a "Me too"
BaScOmBe whose saying "NO REPUGS" @ 14:
Speaking of Clinton, I'd like to refer all loyal C & L readers to this article that appeared in Mother Jones, September 2007 issue. It's quite an eye-opener:

watched ,no country for old men last saturday , not impressed , shitty ending too!
Spock @ 26:
Here is a thing some people don't understand about me.
I like movies and will watch almost anything but slasher flicks. I don't care if the actor is a flaming Scientologist, a right wing nut case or a sexual pervert in real life. If the story is good and the acting is good then i want to see it. i may in the end not like it, but if it has merit and if i enjoy it or am provoced by it it was probably worth seeing.
Peter G @ 28:
Oh, Please!
If i am running my mouth somewhere and you agree or disagree, please chime in!
Don't know that its right to compare Rev. Wright with Rev. Magee. I mean, black people DO have reasons to be angry. You may dislike what both men say, but one of them is right.
xoites Hussein defends Constitution @ 31:
I rather enjoyed the animation myself. I can't think of a movie I'd consider historically accurate in any event. 300 does have one lovely scene in which Leonidas is going about the battlefield spearing Persian wounded. When told he is invited to a parlay he says:There's no reason we can't be civil.
Filthy Harry @ 33:
I think we all have a right to be angry.
Peter G @ 34:
I honestly don't know anything about this movie. Now i will have to see it.

I could take the jail, though I’m not cool with the torture.
Noone is going to torture you until Proud2BHumble shows up with his puns.
tyree @ 30:
If you don't mind me asking, what are your favorite movies, tyree?
Just in time for Easter:
The Ten Commandments Drinking Game
One of my favorite movies of all time is Pleasantville. If you have not seen it i highly recomend you do.
I was in black and white as a teen, so i know.
Roark77 Hussein @ 43:
LOL
Too late for 'keeping', haha, but if you wanna cockus about it, go ahead!
(sorry, couldn't disappoint PG)
Proud2bHumble Hus(in)sein @ 38:
did you get McGaffe, or is it taken,
btw, how ya doin'?
The sad part is if you listen to the extended versions of Wright's remarks the are not batshit crazy and not hateful. Much of it is intellectual, optimistic and compassionate.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOdlnzkeoyQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvMbeVQj6Lw
But people on both sides will lazily repeat the "hate" meme rather than look at Wright in a thoughtful and measured manner.
"300" would be a complete repug propaganda only if Barack Obama starred as Xerxes.

let's here it for another round of false equivalence, tarring both sides with the same brush.
please stop that shit.
I have a generalization for you: ALL GENERALIZATIONS ARE FALSE.
At Bear Stearns, Meet the New Boss

James Dimon, the chairman and chief executive of JPMorgan Chase, attempted to win over executives at Bear Stearns who have vowed to fight his offer.

But he got away."
BaScOmBe whose saying "I saw 300" @ 59:
Hey, now you're generalizing about generalizations. Doesn't that make it true if they're all false?
;)
tyree @ 30:
I saw it a few days ago and I agree with you about the ending. Also saw Into the Wild.........that was great movie!!
xoites Hussein defends Constitution @ 56:
Yes, but not whilst engaging in intimacies with a close blood relative I'll wager...

Which is the same as saying:
The following sentence is false. The previous sentence is true.

It's just over here. I found it very powerful and a very painful show to watch. CBC would run something like it in Canada and I hope they do. That way people in the border states that would "dare" to get a different opinion could see it.
Peter G @ 57:
You got it.
Do you mean Social Security, eh? If so LOL! If not Scooby says,"Huhn?!"
;-}
It appears that P2B, Xoites and I share an interest in Philosophy. Here's one of my favourites. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWLG9feziRU
What I don't get is the media is making a big deal over pastors/preachers/etc saying outrageous things.
Isn't that their job?
Virgin births, afterlife, a man sitting on a cloud judging us?
Isn't every preacher guilty of spewing bullshit?
Probably the only profession that lies more than politicians.
Proud2bHumble Hus(in)sein @ 70:
You can take the Canuck out of the woods but.. you know the rest.
xoites Hussein defends Constitution @ 68:
