The Chris Matthews Show: Does Anyone Care About Obama’s Race More Than Chris Matthews?

In fairness to Tweety, I don’t know if it is he who comes up with these Meter Questions asked of his panel of 12 regular talking heads. But even as others note Barack Obama’s speech as the turning point of the campaign as a step towards post-race politics (and look at the overwhelming numbers of the pundits questioned), it’s still all about race for The Chris Matthews Show.

    video_wmv Download | Play video_mov Download | Play (h/t Heather)

It looks like Matthews is still working the Rev. Wright scandal, completely undone by the notion that the African-American experience could be so far removed from his own. And in that otherness, he hears hatred. Perhaps Chris should see this:

Funnily enough that doesn’t sound nearly as hateful to me as the musings on the upcoming Armageddon by Rev. Hagee, whose endorsement McCain was after “like a dog in heat” for almost a year, and yet, Tweety has complete blinders on this kind of hate.

In all fairness, Matthews is half-Arab. In that I mean that most of the things he says and does will lead us to be taken over by the Arabs at some point.

I saw this video just this morning while perusing youtube. I’ve also read the “Audacity to Hope” sermon… I will not denounce or reject Rev. Wright. The hard fact however is that we live in a soundclip society; one that believes still that it was attacked because they “hate our lifestyle” and so on… it’s very difficult, Obama’s task.

Could they have picked a worse picture for Obama in that second picture? It makes him look like a stuck-up snob. The only way they could’ve done worse is to throw up an old Polaroid from college where he’s passed out drunk and has marker drawn all over his face.

The media will whore the manufactured Wright “scandal” as long as they think McCain will benefit from it. It’s the new Dean Scream–watch for it to lead the news every night through November, unless something better surfaces in the meantime.

    Rob Says:

That is one helluva sermon. Notice that if printed in gentile prose, few would be able to disagree with the specific points the pastor makes. But add his skin color, his tone of voice, and the enthusiasm of the congregants and suddenly it becomes threatening and a spectacle to be condemned on FoxNews. As you listen to the pastor’s words and his heart, and he speaks of self-examination - consider who might be a better spiritual role model … someone such as Rev. Wright or someone such as Sean Hannity or perhaps the Rev. Limbaugh?

    Bluesage Says:

Why is anyone still making the comparison between Rev. Wright and Hagee or any other right-wing fundamentalist nutcase preacher? We know what they and those who listen to them stand for and we expect no better from them.

When listening to the things Rev. Wright has said I have to wonder why Barak Obama sought out and stayed with a preacher that is so mired in the injustice of the past and hasn’t moved on and tried to heal himself as well as his congregation of the sorrow and the hatred. Racism does go both ways and I see Rev. Wright as someone willing to divide people rather than bring them together. And the things this man said about the Clintons, both of them, from the pulpit is not something any good Christian would do. Why is everyone just so willing to accept any vile thing said about either Clinton? She was not my choice, I wanted Edwards but I don’t think she deserves what she is receiving from the media and the Obama supporters.

Of course, I don’t think Tweety is the one to discuss any legitimate issue as he is just out of control. I can’t watch him anymore.

You beat me to it. This link should be posted NOT on all the Liberal blogs, but on all the Conservative ones. It should be posted on all the MSM blogs including FOX News, CNN and PBS. And it should be sent to all your friends who seem even remotely swayed by this recent controversy.

But not for Obama’s sake, rather ours. Let’s make a new habit of alchemizing such petty politics into positive national discourse no matter who slings the first arrow. More than ever, it’s high time to say Country before Party and mean it.

    And then vote against McCain.

it seems like a totally christian thing to say. our hands our not clean in the eyes of history. there is plenty of blood there. enough to give pause, before we go running half cocked around the world blowing up shit cuz 3000 got killed.

And biblically, God did damn the jews plenty of times when they strayed from the path of virtue, by having “pagan” armies, sack israel.

Personally i think. this is metaphorical. it means evil begets evil. you reap what you sow.

I am sorry. but the mighty united states is not above the laws of karma. It is a worthy lesson for any who would lead this nation or any other. calous thoughtless and violent actions have consequences.

Two years ago we had one of those Bible-Holding, Screaming guys on Kohsarn Road standing in the middle of the street about Jaysas and Brimstone etc. After about 20 minutes people made a circle around him all with their backs to him, then another line formed same way. Pretty soon there were about eight deep circles of people around him all with their backs to him. That was one of the great moments I ever had here to see that kind of unity to reject one of those kooks.

I very seldom watch the meat puppets except such as appear here and these generally highlight the more egregious examples of bias and superficial analysis. I prefer my meals as cooked rather than predigested by someone whose whole purpose of existence is to distort the truth. There are lots of people like that here. That being said, there are many of people who wouldn’t know what to think without being told. These type of people listen to the Limbaughs and O’reillys of this world. The problem for those blow hards is that every time they reference and disparage something like Senator Obama’s speech they lead some more people to actually listen to what he said. That is a very good thing and the reason why, in the end, we will win.

    Get with it already.

I’ll post this , you post Hillaries record and see if you can convince me she is better….or McCains’ record for that matter.

During Senator Obama’s first 8 eight months of elected service he sponsored over 820 bills.

He introduced 233 bills regarding healthcare reform,
125 bills on poverty and public assistance,
    112 bills on crime fighting,
    97 economic bills,
60 human rights and anti-discrimination bills,
    21 ethics reform bills,
    15 gun control,
6 veterans affairs and many others.
In his first year in the U.S. Senate, he authored 152 bills and co-sponsored another 427. These included:
(1)the Coburn-Obama Government Transparency Act of 2006 that became LAW,
(2)The Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-proliferation and Conventional Weapons Threat Reduction Act that became LAW, (3)The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act that passed the Senate,
(4)The 2007 Government Ethics Bill that became LAW,
(5)The Protection Against Excessive Executive Compensation Bill that is in committee just to name a few.

In all since he entered the U.S. Senate, Senator Obama has written 890 bills and co-sponsored another 1096. An impressive record, for someone who supposedly has no legislative record.

All the pundits are still pushing the Wright “controversy” today on the Sunday talk shows. I saw it on Meet the Press and the McLaughlin Group. None of them mentioned McCain’s ties to Hagee, Parsley, et al. Hillary Clinton also has her own religiosity problems, as a member of the Senate “Family” and its ties to the religious right as well. The so-called pundits will continue to push this story because of the issue of race, which many find divisive. Division/conflict helps boost network ratings. So they’re going to milk this for all it’s worth. Plus the networks know which side their bread is buttered on–the GOP.

What I find difficult to believe is that McCain is tied with both Democratic candidates right now in the polls. As long as the Democrats are still fighting over who will be the nominee, we can’t unify to go after McCain. We can’t use the DNC’s apparatus to do that. Every indicator is against Clinton. She can’t possibly win the popular vote, the states, the pledged delegates…and the super-delegates aren’t going to divide the party by going against the pledged delegates. I wish Clinton would accept reality already. Her campaign is hurting our likely nominee and helping McCain.

I’m a real Democrat and have been my entire adult life and I don’t think Barack Obama has been raked over any coals. He’s been asked legitimate questions and it seems even that is not allowed by his supporters. I have not been a Obama or Clinton supporter but I do believe that she is the most capable for the times we are in. Obama has been given pretty much a free ride in this campaign and I don’t believe that questioning his judgement and his relationship to this angry and divisive man is out of the question. It is a legitimate question.

I just don’t think Tweety is the one to do it.

you know back in the day. the mark of the superior race was that they were both physically stronger and intellectually adept. after jack johnson destroyed all the white boxing competition and no “great white hope” materialized to stop him. attitudes towards strength as a meter for the superior race began to change. Remember the berlin olympics and hitler’s shame?

But then then story changed. brutes could be strong. just not intellegent. eloquence and an ability to communicate sound ideas soundly has been a mark of intellect since before shakespeare, and twain.

Now that a black man God forbid, and not the first, can move can inspire, not because of his mastery of the english languae, but because his mastery allows him to express profound ideas and call people to their more noble aspiration. Now speech, becomes just speech, eloquence becomes just eloquence…

Obama did not materialize out of the blue. He worked in the streets of chicago and the illinois senate, before he came to washington and has stood up for the right and shirked the fast life and the pursuit of money for more noble aspirations, which he is able to express to the people now….

but the eyes of the blind see only darkness. woe unto all of you, who persist in bitterness and hate against a man who strives, even for as you hiss and brew your poision, for your ultimate welfare…

Faith comes from believing things for you which you have no proof.

Reason comes with those things for which you have proof.

Here, for me are things that are proved by Barack Obama’s speech, they come not from just the hearing or the telling of, but my careful study of the text:

    1) He is a person of substantial intellect. He wrote the speech, he is not just another actor.

    2) He is a person of great courage.

    3) He is a statesman of the first order.

    43
    Erroll Says:

Finally, finally, a post to place Rev. Wright’s comments in the proper context. People like Matthews and the rest of the mass media along with the [alleged] agent of hope and change Barack Obama are very quick to distance themselves from Rev. Wright without attempting to examine the uncomfortable truths concerning the policies of the often less than benign United States. This link also provides more reasons why Americans should examine the role that the United States has played in interfering in the affairs of other countries which inevitably ends up creating death and destruction for those countries that the U.S. decides to allegedly help. It would be undoubtedly true that if Martin Luther King Jr. were alive today that he would be saying essentially the same thing that Rev. Wright has been saying and receiving the same scorn and contempt that has been given to Rev. Wright. But it should be noted that Dr. King pointed out very similar uncomfortable truths about this country in his Beyond Vietnam speech in 1967 in which he urged the United States to immediately withdraw its troops from that quagmire in a place called Vietnam. The United States once again finds itself in a quagmire of its own making in Iraq but yet Obama, that alleged agent of hope and change, is not calling for the immediate withdrawal of troops from that abattoir in Iraq. Barack Obama, I have heard Dr. King speak and your words cannot come close to matching the wisdom and courage and veracity of Dr. King.
