The Daily Show: Welcome to McCain’s Monsters of Nostalgia Tour

video_wmv Download | Play   video_mov Download | Play  (h/t Heather)

Jon Stewart and company look at John McCain’s attempt to allow voters to get to know him better by stopping at important locales of his personal biography, like Annapolis, where he attended flight school.  Hmm…do you think he mentioned graduating at the bottom of his class?  Watch how the media–if they pay any attention to him at all–goes along with this nostalgia tour without picking up on the fact that so much of Grandpa McCain’s history happened so long ago, like Harry Smith conveniently coming out with McCain’s high school yearbook (without pointing out that it’s been more than 50 years).

Anyway, this type of bus tour is bound to give McCain the kind of coverage he’s craving.  He spoke at Annapolis this morning at 9:17 am. Let’s see how the cable news covered him: [shows MSNBC] oh, that’s gotta hurt. Obama giving a speech at the same time.  McCain got Barack-blocked. Alright, how about the other networks? [changes to CNN] CNN? They’re talking about the mortgage crisis.  [changes to FNC] Fox has…kids with weapons. [changes to C-Span] C-Span, really?  C-Span isn’t covering it? Oh, what about the 24 Hour All Arizona Senator Channel? There’s a 50% chance that they’ll cover… [turns to speech by Sen. John Kyl] Really?  Oh, the other guy? What else is on, is anybody covering McCain? [changes channel] Oh there’s Law & Order.  [changes channel] There’s another Law & Order. [changes channel] There’s a Law & Order with…oh Christ, Fred Thompson’s getting more coverage!  There’s not a…[change channel] oooh, a Law & Order SUV, that’s on…what about…what about..[changes to Grandpa Simpson on The Simpsons] ooh, there’s McCain.  Alright.  Oh wait, that’s not the case.  You know what?  Close enough, let’s hear what he has to say.

Correspondents Jason Jones, Samantha Bee and Rob Riggle have fun tracing back important dates in McCain’s history.

I suppose McCain is hoping GW Bush’s campaigning principles will work for him, too.

GET TO KNOW ME! You’ll like me! Vote for me because I’m somebody you’d love to have a beer with.

Well, McCain’s campaign will surely omit his screaming temper tantrums and senior moments, as GW’s campaign omitted his stupidity and fondness for farting at his staff to throw them off-message.

“Make a few promises know-nothings” is the commonality of Bush and McCain, and some people might genuinely LIKE them. But I like a lot of people that I know would be unable to be president of the US.

WorldCom probably didn’t contribute enough to the RNC coffers or support Bush for his takeover of the White House. (insert sarcasm) Shame, shame on WorldCom.

I don’t think harping on McCain’s issue is really important. I think everyone gets it -
HE”S OLD.

However, the media doesn’t let people know that McCain flip-flopped on torture, can’t tell Iraq from Iran, coddles the loony rightwing Evangelicals, and is breaking the LAW on campaign finance.

THOSE are the real issues.

In May 2003, the company was given a no-bid contract by the United States Department of Defense to build a cellular telephone network in Iraq. (After Ebbers was neatly disposed of.)

Agreed but in his own way, Stewart is showing how ridiculous it is. Sort of when everyone started adding the name, “Hussein” to theirs to show how ridiculous that was. Maybe the age thing will go away now so the media can concentrate on the next shallow and vapid (is that redundant?) non-issue.

i do agree that concentrating on his age is a smokescreen, as the man is dangerous and his policy views, foreign policy dictates and coddling of right wing extremists should disqualify him from serious consideration.

You got to consider his age. He should be retired in Sun City not running for President at 72/73. Rev Wright is a smokescreen and is used over and over again. The Dems have to fight back. You can’t be nice against these folks. They won’t be nice to the Dems believe me. They use the race card, use the age card. If you ever saw McBush without makeup and the right lighting, Old…ddddddddddddddddddd. Grampa Simpson, Brilliant. Read the papers. They are saying nothing negative about McBush and picking on every word Obama and Clinton say. FIGHT BACK NOW. TAKE NO PRISONERS. REMEMBER SWIFTBOAT?

Oh, this is just what this country needs…..an old fart with lot of family stories to nauseate us with. I think I’m going to be sick.

This is really the best the repugs could do. Everyone else is under criminal investigation or they bailed out to become lobbyists before the deadline passed. God bless (HELP) America. We are in real trouble.

The media is such a sad joke when it comes to covering the “sweet old war hero”. I think I want to throw up again. This old far IS NO WAR HERO!!! He is a “war survivor”. The same as me and a few hundred thousand other war survivors. We lived to tell our ugly story. He was tortured. Ouch…that had to hurt, but then, by today’s standards it’s really just “enhanced interrogation”. But he is NOT a hero. Heroes are people who do something that puts their life at risk for the welfare and safety of others. mcbush never did that. He simply survived. He told them what they wanted to hear so they wouldn’t “enhance” him anymore.

This old fart is such a sad joke. This country and the media are such a sad, broken joke. Please….please, let this old fart retire to AZ where he can tell his stories to his wife and daughter, and keep them on the edge of their seats for the rest of his twisted life.

We don’t need another baboon’s ass in the White House EVER…..not even in 2012, 2016, 2020, etc. EVER!!!

“Hmm…do you think he mentioned graduating at the bottom of his class?”

Nice reporting crooks and liars. Actually he did mention that repeatedly. What are you guys, fox news for Democrats?

Here’s the Baltimore Sun report:
http://www.baltimoresun.com/ne.....2174.story
“During a campaign speech at Navy’s football stadium yesterday, he joked about his rebellious years at the academy, where he graduated near the bottom of his class and accumulated “an impressive catalog of demerits.”

“By my reckoning, at the end of my second class year, I had marched enough extra duty to take me to Baltimore and back 17 times - which, if not a record, certainly ranks somewhere very near the top,” said McCain, who often makes self-deprecatory references to his academy experience.”

It’s a Google Ad, which rotates, based on keywords. Since we focus on the conservative political crooks and liars, it filters for that as a keyword. We can’t control what comes up, and taking it down would result in a significant loss of revenue necessary to keep the site going. Unless all our readers want to pony up some cash to pay the overhead, the ads are a necessary evil.

Annie, I’ve watched you make insinuating comments about the integrity of this site for several days now. If you feel that way, please find another site more to your liking, but I’m not interested in any more of your bizarro liberal purity notions about this site. Everyone here works too hard to have someone like you constantly questioning and castigating us. If you make another comment like that, I will have the site team ban your IP.
