Who's done more on global warming, Gore or McCain?
By Steve Benen Thursday Apr 03, 2008 6:01pmAs high profile leaders in the Republican Party go, John McCain deserves some credit for believing that the earth really is warming, and that climate change is real. When it comes to environmental policy, McCain’s votes are pretty unreliable, and his plans to address climate change are sad and thin, but at an absolute minimum, he is willing to admit, publicly, that the scientific data is accurate and cause for concern. In the GOP, this is progress.
But for Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) to compare McCain favorably to Al Gore just makes him look ridiculous.
“Climate change is the road less traveled but he’s traveled it even more than Al Gore,” Graham said. “Al Gore has talked about it and deserves great recognition but he was around here a long time and never introduced a bill.”
Let me get this straight. Al Gore has done less than John McCain when it comes to climate change? That’s the new argument from one of McCain’s top campaign surrogates?
It’s bad enough to hear Joe Lieberman argue that McCain knows what he’s talking about on Iraq, but Graham is just making a fool out of himself here.
Ben at Think Progress does a fantastic job in shredding Graham’s argument, which Ben said “rings of pure absurdity.”

All Right!!!!
Let's see the conservative Big Oil supporting Christians go after John McCain instead of Al Gore for a while.
The Right-wingers will never accept Global Warming until we are staring at extinction in the face. The very fact Repugs and their ilk kowtow to Big Business, ie, Energy companies. Corporations could care less about the environment because of the windfall profits they reap. They will poison the world with their greed, and we all will pay a price.
Well being a Repug, Mccain has certainly produced more methane.....kinda goes without saying.........uh huh.....

I seem to remember Gore trying to get the senate's involved in global warming about 25 or 30 YEARS ago and getting totally ignored?
the only things mclame knows about climate change is
to get one of his aides to change the thermostat on the
straight talkingexpress.Yeah, I was wondering how Graham's argument could logically come to be made, but I worked it out: Sen. Lindsey Graham is a lying sack of slime.
My family believes the earth is warming, but not because of HUMAN activity. I has something to do with flatulence or something. I have pointed to evidence suggesting otherwise, but I'm just another pathetic Liberal. Trying my best to destoy the US of A.
Arrggghh Man-bear-pig.
Let us put Ben Stein in charge of global warming since he knows so much about that science stuff!

Typical Repub managerial attitude: pin the blame on someone when they promote a dangerous new idea...until it's proven true. Then take the credit.
[Deleted. Off topic. Feel free to repost in an open thread-there will be one later tonight. Thanks-Sitemonitor]
well with all that hot air leaking out of McOldGuy's piehole, I'd definitely say he is the man who has done to most to encourage global warming/climate change.
We all know that there is no such thing as global warning , look at all the scientific studies done that are inconclusive. Oh, by the way did I tell you about the conclusions being rewritten to make it seem that way by Bushco and friends.
Well we better do something fast. The ice shelfs are melting and disappearing. In my area last spring and summer there were no bees. That has never happend before. This year I'm developing a bee and butterfly garden. I hope can we reverse the damage we are doing, if not, were screwed.
What planet is this guy living on. Does he actually think he'll be taken seriously?
Speaking of climate change: http://ecoarts.blogspot.com/2008/04/climate-change-may-help-spread-disea...
Neither.
Neither has done anything except obfuscate the problems of pollution. This is because neither of them are basing their arguments on human rights. One such right of humanity is the right to their person and property. If these things are violated, then the counter-party, if they can be proven to be guilty, would be liable to pay damages to the plaintiff.
But Gore and McCain do not see things this way. Gore in particular sees it as a way to gain power and control. McCain on the other hand is simply an uneducated and immoral person, so he probably doesn't even know what global warming is.
Notwithstanding the fact, of course, that the Earth has recently cooled so much that the previous 100 years of gain have been erased. This is fact, but you don't see MSM or politicians mentioning it, because it goes against their self interest, which is to keep the lid on the populace, and extract taxes from them for driving or refrigerating food. Gore also uses 20 times the national average in energy, while telling people to use less energy.
Finally, global climate change is not caused by mankind. It is caused by the sun's activity. CO2 changes LAG Earth temperature changes by about 800 years. When the Earth warms because of the Sun, CO2 rises 800 years later. And vice versa.
Global Warming is a complete HOAX. Hoaxes like these are necessary for the thousands of government paid scientists to get funding. Those who say it's a hoax, lose their funding. Moral hazard.
McCrazy has done more on climate change then Gore... Yea, and pigs can fly.
Drew @ 17:
Oh christ. another hotair leaking piehole. Do you tell yourself that so you can go on driving your 15-25 kpg pig forever? I'd tell you to pull your head out, but it's obviously on permanent placement up there.
Drew @ 17:
My god! where do you get your info
Drew, baby...quit listening to Rush Blimpballs. Like the four servings biggie fries he has a day, he's bad for you. I know this because my officemate, who listens to that tub of defecation everyday, gives me the daily report like I give a fuck.
Wow Drew@17. You would fit right in with the right-wing of my family. They would greet you with open arms.
First of all, when was the last time Gore could have introduced any kind of bill?
Second, exactly what environmental bills has McCain himself introduced?
miss_kitty Hussein @ 19:
Don't own a car or truck. I take public trans like the geek I am...
Drew @ 17:
Give us some peer reviewed papers(links), where you get the sun bullshit is causing climate change. I can link you to 100's of peer reviewed papers, that dispute the hoax and bad science you just threw out here. Before you make stupid statements, why not research the subject you are trying to talk about.
You're right StirFry, Limpballs is an addiction to the right wingers. It's like a bad car wreck, you don't want to look, but you are compelled to do so.
The Right-wingers will never accept Global Warming until they can't take a deep breath. They won't accept it until it is too late for the rest of us and their ugly grandchildren. Al Gore should have been President. The Bush EPA has to be sued to do what everybody already knows is the only sane thing to do. Where-0-where will that 'clean' nuclear waste be put? I can tell you where it ought to be stuck!!!
StirFry @ 21:
Rush Limbaugh is a big fat idiot. Al Franken was right...
Hey, give Drew a break. What could 2,500 scientists around the world possible know...that he and Rush don't?
C'mon...
O.T. Rachel is sitting for K.O. tonight.
Drew @ 24:
Sez you.
On the internet, no one knows you're a dog...
P.D. @ 22:
I am not on any "wing". To think that left and right are the only two intellectual options available is like asking me to choose between communists and fascists, or a lobotomy and castration, or any other two already proven to have not worked ideologies. No thanks! I prefer the third wing on the mutated chicken where the state isn't being abused by special interests in order for people to achieve their goals. Both left and right take the state to be a given for this task, when the only thing they should be doing is protecting us. They should not be used by people because other people always end up getting hurt in some way. Think about it.
Name ANY right or left wing policy advocated by the representatives of each party for the government to do in a POSITIVE sense, meaning the government takes action on something, and I will be able to point out to you with 100% certainty the forgotten people who are going to be hurt by it.
I would like to have NOBODY get hurt.
So no, I am not right wing. The right wing of today (the popular notion of right wing) are a bunch of statist, war-mongering, fascist wannabes with no proper self-education. This is why they just shout the slogans, but meanwhile they act in ways that will not achieve what they want.
Geno @ 29:
You mean the IPCC? Those 2,500 "scientists" did not have a consensus you know. As long as someone contributed to the study, their names went in. Many of them were not even scientists.
Also, many of the scientists on the IPCC DISAGREED with the report's final conclusion.
Finally, you may or may not know about this, but the conclusion of the IPCC report was made BEFORE HAND...BY POLITICIANS.
It was not a proper scientific study. It was biased and corrupted. Not to mention the fact that many of the scientists in that study need to say it is real because that is the source of their living.
This is not just some babble wingnut shite used in a desperate attempt at discrediting an otherwise sound study. But the IPCC was not scientific, it was political, and thus immoral and corrupt.
andy @ 9:
You should know that those guys (Matt and Trey) are closet Republicans. They don't deserve acknowledgement.
miss_kitty Hussein @ 31:
That's true. I could be a dog. But then you have to think why I would lie on an anonymous board. It's useless to lie on the internet, because you will be caught. That's why the internet is the best media and source for knowledge there is.
miss_kitty Hussein @ 31:
BTW, I noticed that many people on this blog are starting to use the name Hussein, or some other middle eastern name. What's that about? Is it to say FUCK YOU to the assholes in the MSM who are making such a big deal of Obama's middle name? Cuz if that's the reason, I may consider changing my name too.
diamondmc @ 25:
Still waiting for you to back your shit up, or are you just trolling?
So, now the Rethuglicans are going to claim the global warming issue as their own, despite the fact they've been denying it for years.
diamondmc @ 37:
Sorry, this shit is in my head, sometimes it takes me a while to sort it all out. But all of what I said can be found using the net. I am not just trolling. I personally don't like to have to link to everything, because that would take forever.
I can tell you that I swear on my life that this is as much as I know about such an important topic, and the knowledge I have can be found. The truth is out there.
I promise that if you do a couple of quick Google searches, the answers will be on the first page of hits.
I would much rather debate with people on what we know rather than how good we are at looking stuff up. It's more fun and it makes us all smarter people.
Knowledge does not exist unless it is INTERNALIZED.
Not like our contemporary educational system that is designed to not encumber students with any actual knowledge, but rather an ability to "look it up". I like it better when brains display the ability to recall without reference. That's the art of debating. Watch all the best debaters in the world, they do not have laptops with them when arguing. They just go at it. That's why I try to live up to that....
If Graham is correct (and all Republican's will believe he is) shouldn't SCOTUS be working or reassigning Al's Nobel prize to it's rightful owner: McIgnobel.
diamondmc, here's a link for you concerning scientists who were once in favor of the theory that climate change is heavily impacted by human activity, but who are now opposed to that theory.
http://www.speroforum.com/site/article.asp?idarticle=9469
Please remember i remain skeptical, about both sides of the argument and therefor believe neither side. But i do think we shouldnt just plug our fingers in our ears and get hostile when someone disagrees with you.
It's pretty bogus to think that human beings don't effect the environment, climate or quality of life.
I mean, just throw a keg party and you'll see a microcosm of the issue.
Play my Armageddon game:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OftwKZtwSfE
fellow_voyager @ 41:
Good, there's one reference.
huh, i was sure i had another post with a link on it
Private citizens can introduce bills in the Senate now??? Or Graham is just crazy?..... Never mind....
Drew - SCIENTISTS have produced further compelling evidence showing that modern-day climate change is not caused by changes in the Sun's activity.
Drew @ 39:
Nice try drew. Can't back your " sun is causing climate change", so you tell us to look it up? You are the one who stated it as fact. It seems to me, that it is up to you to back your own shit up, not us. Still looks like your trolling to me.
since you are fond of BBC.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7329799.stm
The really good ones, the scientists who aren't propped up by government grants, will get around the 'funding' problems. We all know the truth, despite the best efforts of the current administration. Graham is an idiot. Almost all politicians from Texas are. (Religion is a complete HOAX too.)
and all Gore did was over hype and lie about the situation.....
and if you read the former article from the BBC from Terrible, you will see that what the scientists actually say, is that there is no correlation between solar activity and cosmic ray density. Which is a far cry from claiming the sun has no affect on climate change.
chris @ 48:
Ok I'll bite... Where has Gore lied?
Drew @ 39:
You said it...it IS shit. I found a lot of shit on the net. I found something on the net that said your mom is a slut. Must be true. I found it on the net. I personally don’t like to have to link to everything, because that would take forever.
Jay Severin Has A Small Pen1s @ 42:
I think humans do affect the environment. But I don't think this is a bad thing. Like don't you think it's a pretty assertion to assume that an unchanged Earth is optimal? Why do you think humans should not affect the world? Or do you? Not sure actually. But in any event, if humans did affect the world, it is destiny. We are a part of nature, so everything we do is natural and not something to hate or fear.
Imagine what the world would look like in a million years. The Earth will be one giant city, with man-made oxygen generators. It will be a world in which we create it to best suit what it means to be human.
If this is what the Earth will look like in a million years, why try to stop it?
Yes now we are to believe that first Bush now McCain should have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize and the Oscar for their work on Global Warming. Next McCain will say it was he not George Washington who lead our troops to win. Yes even Teflon John McCain discovered the United States of America. McCain can take correct for ever success this country has had since 1776 that's why we should vote for him, he's older then dirt.
diamondmc @ 46:
HAHAHA
You know what's funny?
How we're now having a debate on who's lazier. It's true!
The sun is causing climate change. Just spend like, 5 seconds googling that shit. Trust me, I'm not lying...
well....i dont know if i would go that far Drew. While I remain skeptical about global warming (read: not sure one way or the other) that doesnt mean that humans should be free to pollute however they want.
Drew @ 52:
What are you, nine years old? Do you even read what you say? You throw out bullshit, and try to say its fact, but you have no facts. Rush would be proud of you. Go take a science class, and then get back to us.
McCain and Graham are increasing the global warming by producing more hot air!
diamondmc @ 50:
The Science is not in, we still have scientist and article that are questioning it, I think their was an article linked on drudge that the earth has not gotten warmer in like 5 years..
Bush and company can say 'day is night' and say it often enough to get away with it, even when we all (even the most stupid of us) see that it is clearly night. I think 'we' are the ones to blame.
fellow_voyager @ 55:
You're right, that would be stupid. That's why I personally like to go by human rights violations as standard.
If I dump my trash in your yard, I'm obviously guilty. But if I drive my imaginary car, I am not, because there is no way to discern who is guilty. So yes there are limits when it comes to human rights. Humans adapt to mild forms of atmospheric changes such as carbon emissions. I'm not afraid. We're tough SOBs. We have, in the period of rapid industrialization, increased our life spans from 35 years to 72 years. Not friggin bad if you ask me. I'll take the occasional asthma attack in order to be able to live almost twice as long as our ancestors. We'll develop a cure for asthma and we're golden.
Drew @ 54:
I did google climate change, and could not find one scientific peer reviewed paper that supports your claim, that the sun is the cause for the climate changes we are seeing.
chris @ 59:
Drudge...yeah...hey chris, I'd like you to meet Drew, who finds shit on the net. I think you two have a lot in common.
diamondmc @ 57:
I think those who took science classes and professed to know anything are the ones that need a slapping. I took science in school, doesn't make me aware. I only know what I know. Tell me what YOU think about stuff. This is anonymous, so you can whatever you like. Nobody is going to find out. That's the beauty of the net. We are all more or less anonymous, so don't be afraid to take the leap into making statements about stuff. I'll debate you for sure, but that's a good thing about C&L. It's a place to learn what the assholes in Washington are doing. This place keeps me in the loop, as it were.
chris @ 59:
Drudge? are you kidding? Thats you source on Gore? Give us a break.
diamondmc @ 65:
Crooks & Liars, thats it, that your source on Gore and Global whining??
diamondmc @ 62:
OK, so peer review is your basis for knowledge. That's fine. It's not how I roll. Einstein was right before the peer review, so was everyone else. Sometimes the peer review process cannot produce 100% truth. Don;t get me wrong, the peer review process is a great method, but it's not foolproof. Climate change is, in my judgment, one of those things that hasn't been settled yet 100%. This is not because I have this unfair bias of being apologetic to free enterprise no matter what the costs. it's more to do with principle and science.
I know it's hard to find stuff on the net.
For the sun's activity evidence, look up Dr. Piers Corbyn on Google video. He's the man.
lindsey graham is the most ignorant and spineless member of the senate...
he is a yapping lapdog...
who cares what that buffoon says about anything...
Drew @ 64:
Your right, C&l is a great site. If you want to debate politics, thats fine to give us your opinion. If you are going to debate science, opinion don't mean shit. Give me some facts to back up your scientific statements, and then we can debate.
diamondmc @ 62:
Actually, Google video is not very good for looking up Dr. Piers Corbyn.
Watch the "The Great Global Warming Swindle". Corbyn is in there.
Hey Drew. You won't see too many PHDs from Liberty University being hired by Exxon-Mobil. They'll take the support in the media, but when push comes to shove, Exxon wants people that know and believe in science. They count on carbon dating, geology, and earth sciences. They ain't lookin' for dinosaur fossils from 2000 years ago.
The scientist from Exxon KNOW fossil fuels have an effect on climate change. They just don't share that information with us because they get paid not to. Just like the scientists and researchers at the tobacco companies.
diamondmc @ 69:
Let me ask you this. You want to debate science right? If we can agree on scientific fact, then there would be no debate! Science on global warming is not settled yet. By far. I know it's a complicated subject, but what's in your mind? What is going on in your thoughts when people talk about it? Why do you think that? What would you suggest? Who could be the ones to do it? Will it work? Why?
I want to know what YOU think, not some link. I can look that up myself.
Listen, how mad are you at the neo-cons who act without thinking? How mad are you are you at them for being able to lead a country without having the slightest bit of actual knowledge? I'll tell you why. It's because they say shit and people listen. That's what YOU need to do, and what I need to do. THAT is what it will take to win. Come on, be brave and talk shit to me, and see how good you are.
Jay Severin Has A Small Pen1s @ 71:
So we have scientists being paid in oil, and scientists being paid in government, and where does that lead us? To arguing with each other instead of debating what we think. If you had to venture an opinion, what would it be?
Drew @ 67:
