60 Minutes: Gov. Siegelman challenges Rove to testify under oath

There's a reason why programs like "60 Minutes" win Peabody Awards. Less than 2 months after airing a story exposing the politically motivated conviction of former Democratic Governor Don Siegelman -- yes, we now have political prisoners in this country -- Scott Pelley sits down with a newly-released Siegelman, who has some serious questions he wants Karl Rove to answer under oath before the Judiciary Committee.

CBS:

"What we need is Karl Rove to get himself over to the Judiciary Committee and put his hand on a Bible and take an oath and give testimony. And he can either tell the truth or take the Fifth. Either one will satisfy me."

Many of us in the blogosphere were relentless in covering this case. We should all be proud of ourselves. Something tells me the Judiciary Committee is gonna have a hard time getting Turd Blossom's hand on that Bible.

Not proud.

Rove will never swear to tell the truth, short of some of Yoo style persuasion.

You think CBS is finding (growing) its journalistic spine?

I don't think the Bible is a sticking point, except in so far as using it may result in bad consequences for lying under oath. Rove is so clearly un-Christian in his actions that he must not have any regard for the contents of the book.

Rove's hand will probably smoke when placed on the Bible...

Karl could not possibly place his hand on the Bible; one of the two items would spontaneously combust.

Rove will tell the truth, as long as it is the truth framed for his purposes and in a manner that may or may not answer the question he was asked, or may only be truthful under the exact words & conditions Rove chooses to use. IOW R will lie like hell..

Rove testifying under oath:
"I don't remember".
"I can't recall".
"Maybe,maybe not".
"Do these pants make my ass look fat?"

If Karl Rove were to place his hand on a bible it (his hand) would probably burst into flames.

Oops, sorry azureblue@5 and jane b @6,

great minds I guess...

As close to a fat-assed flying, lying pig ever there was one!

Turd Blossoms hand on a bible would burst on fire.

I'll be damned...is justice about to be done upon Rove? Or am I being overly optimistic again?

I wonder how many TeeVee stations in Alabama blocked this episode?

Why can't Rove be subpoenaed just like any other citizen. This has nothing to do with national security and all that other stuff they say prevents them from testifying. If he is subpoenaed and refuses to show up, then arrest his fat ass.

I opened a Bible the other day and it was full of pressed turd-blossoms.

Gee...wonder why they've (GOP schmucks) have lost their bark on the FISA issue....

Hmmm....after all starting that spying in February 01....kind of takes that 'everything changed on 9/11' crap and throws it out the window

If we're to believe "Bush's Brain," Rove is ultimately a sociopath, and will not think twice about lying under oath.

I'm afraid the media has to go a little longer and a little harder into this. People like Rove, Rumsfeld, Ashcroft, Cheney, Doug Feith etc., need to be brought before the Judiciary before the Nation can heal. If that doesn't happen, look for more of this kind of injustice no matter which party gains control of the WH and Congress.

I would love to see him caught lying under oath, perjury, or not showing up on supoena, contempt of court. Either way, Bubba might be visiting Rove in his cell.

Can't the new Democratic President jsut drag his ass in? You know it'll never happen while bush is in office.

This is the first I've ever heard of this. I guess the MSM isn't reporting it. (Up until this week I didn't know what MSM meant until I came to this blog, lol)

Saying you did not speak to anyone at the White House or the Justice Dept. is hardly a denial of any involvement.

Average Joe @ 21

Can’t the new Democratic President jsut drag his ass in? You know it’ll never happen while bush is in office.

Not gonna happen. Emperor George and Darth Cheney will dissolve congress next January and declare the election results invalid. The Supreme Court will uphold their decision then promptly disband. This will then be followed by martial law in which the US will enter into the bloodiest Civil War in history with millions of liberal bloggers and blog commentators rounded up and summarily executed in the streets.

I join you in that sentiment.

He'll put his hand on the Bible as bold as brass, and lie through his teeth to the Judiciary Committee (who'll let him do it, and applaud him afterward while castigating Siegelmann for being a poor sport). What needs to be done is to haul him into actual criminal court, with definite penalties - like a Saudi court, with the headsman waiting right outside ...

He'd better testify when he receives a subpoena. Otherwise the Democrats might send him a strongly worded letter.

Would that be the same courts that have been stacked with rethug appointees?

Why is Scrushy is still in jail?

Hahahahaha...

Don Siegelman CHALLENGES ROVE TO TESTIFY.

Good luck on that!

I am sure that will happen, and the non-partisan (hahaha) will force Rove (hahaha) to testify in this clear, blatant case of abuse of power (hahaha @ democracy)

Bush could save a lot of time by just pardoning Rove today. In fact, just pardon all his crooked administration. If he pardoned Libby, you know he would surely pardon Rove. Remember what Libby told Judy Miller, they are all attached like Aspen roots.

I'll third that comment. National Security only goes so far. Besides, even if Rove's testimony does contain some classified material they can always close it to the public.

What will be interesting how the Bush Administration will cover for him. In the past they used to the old executive privilege because Rove was still working in the white House.  Now that he is gone that excuse will be difficult for the Bush Administration to justify.

Rove under oath?

Rove: I don't recall

Rove: I don't recall

If you add in the employees of Blackwater, the ratio probably changes a little bit and not in a good way.

That's a good one. It would not phase Rove in the least to lie under oath. To think otherwise is pure, utter fantasy.

Keep hope alive people.

"Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania
The city remains in poor shape, with those bad newer buildings (now aging badly), and the "missing teeth" of more recent demolitions, and a sagging population base. But I liked the young professionals I met there who are working to revive this very damaged place. They were intelligent, and cheerful despite the difficulty of their task. They clearly loved their town. They were free to move elsewhere, had even been to college elsewhere, but had returned to their old city in the valley to make a stand. And they had worked tirelessly to actually get a few good new things built."

Somebody give that goddamned Judiciary Committee a remedial course on CONTEMPT OF COURT.

Make 'em read John Adams.

Frankly, I'd rather see KKKarl Rove behind bars in Federal Prison... than getting served at some bar here in Austin.

It would be worth it just to see him burst into flames when he touched it. LOL!
Seriously though, other than providing yet another charge to indict him on [lying under oath] what is the point of the swearing in? It's not like he or any of his war criminal buddies give a damn about any religion or belief? And would turd blossom even know if he was lying? Every word out of his mouth is a distortion or a bold faced lie. I expect he'd have to be introduced to concepts like 'honesty' and 'integrity' in a remedial environment before they even began.

Actually, if Rove placed his hand on the Bible, it would embrace him and give him a warm feeling. That piece of shit book is all about criminal activity.

fiver @ 30:

OK, let me tone down myself. That book is loaded with immoral actions. Why it is used as some sort of moral standard is completely irrational.

I agree with both your posts.

What makes anyone think that Rove would tell the truth? This man has so much blood on his hands that it could change the color from black to red; but a black bible would be representative of his soul.

Well, guys you all heard what Karl Rove said: he didn't talk to anybody about Siegelman. I guess that settles that... no need for a Judiciary Committee hearing or any of that stuff.

Maybe they can ask him about Siegelman at Rove's trial in The Hague though...

At the rate they are going, the Judicary Committee won't even be able to tell the time of day, in fact they have had a hard time doing anything. All conyers does is blah blah blah he can't even get rove and meirs to show up for a subpoenea....If he sees a TV camera he poses and speechfies he's running for re-election. But do something. Gee he is a wimp at that.

Here, here! No toning down necessary. The control freak field manual doesn't need any love.

If I had to testify in court, would they have me swear on a stack of MAD magazines?

Better make turdblossom swear on the Necronomicon.

Rove, the Truth? Swearing to tell the Truth...?
Just take the sucker out back of the barn and get it over with!

You're asking for spontaneous combustion when Karl Rove's hand comes anywhere near the Bible, because the Devil can't touch the things of God without getting burned.

I wouldn't trust Rove to any American Judiciary. I would feel more hopeful about a conviction and prison time if he were tried as a war criminal in the International Court.

But, then again, that's why Bush got America's name off those courts - to remove jurisdiction in case the next POTUS decided to extradite the whole Administration to the Hague.

Rove: I know nothingk, I see nothingk, and I say nothingk!

This is hysterrical; what makes anyone think that Rove ( turd 1) wouldn't lie under oath! America knows that if Rove was found guilty of perjury, bush (turd 2) would simply use his executive privilege to pardon his good ol' buddy.
I love how these people hide behind the flag and bible. In the end, they treat the bible the same way that they treat any other bill or law, like it's just ink on another piece of parchment. Oh, the privileged class!

Al @ 2:

Make them all testify. Alone. Under oath. And under water. That way we can see if enhanced interrogation methods really are effective at getting information out of terrorists.

Rove would lie. He would also take his own life before serving time.

It's a failure of us all that there is this much anger at governmental policies and no avenues have been created to constructively use that for change. Change won't happen when people get elected, change happens when people are given direct power and use it to force the government to work for them. The left, us, haven't done that, so we come on sites like this and bitch about the country not doing something about it. Look at the countries doing something about it, they create avenues for their countrymen to change the situation, they organize, they educate, they make things happen. We've never had that here on a mass scale and there's barely even seeds being planted for these movements to grow in the future. Maybe the internet can be that, or maybe it's just a forum for us all to feel like we're not alone, while doing little to nothing to change the situation. Thank god people like King, Eugene Debs, Emma Goldman and the like didn't just complain, they ACTED.

Rove under oath? Would Cheney and Bush have to be there also? if so, no oath, no notes and no witnesses.

I think he is too. One of Rove's biggest "accomplishments" was taking the the Christian Talibangelicals for a ride, which goes to show even Rove might not be all bad.

Don Siegelman has no shame. The prosecution presented a tidal wave of evidence against the former governor that was overwhelming. Newspapers throughout the state of Alabama chronicled his sordid trail of corruption for years. Sigelman is trying to mitigate his conviction and guilt by deflecting focus to somebody else: Karl Rove. Siegelman was represented at his trial by the best legal defense team money can buy. A jury of his peers sat through the entire trial and closely examined the evidence. They returned a unanimous verdict of guilty. Siegelman is desperately trying to delay the inevitable. The wheels of justice grind slowly but surely. Eventually, Don Siegleman will land back behind bars where he belongs and serve his much deserved sentence as a convicted felon.
