McCain's 'bio tour' and Karl Rove's ethics
By Steve Benen Sunday Apr 06, 2008 7:20amThere’s a suspicion on the part of many Dems that Karl Rove’s influence is felt in almost every move made by the Republican Party and its national candidates. The concerns are generally unfounded.
But once in a while, Rove really might be pulling certain strings behind the scenes.
For example, Marc Ambinder noted the other day that John McCain’s “bio tour” and Rove’s advice for McCain seem to coincide quite nicely. Rove was asked in mid-February during a Q&A at the University of Pennsylvania what he would advise McCain to do. Rove said:
“[McCain] needs to seize the opportunity to reintroduce himself.... He should take a biographical tour to the places in the country that have made him who he is. Go to the Naval Academy and talk about the values he learned there. Then he should go to Pensacola, Florida and Corpus Christi, Texas where he was trained as a naval aviator, and talk from the heart and the call to service. Go to Meridian, Mississippi and Jacksonville, Florida and talk about what he learned about leadership commanding the largest naval air squadron in the United States. He should go to wherever it was that he first stepped foot back in the United States after the Vietnam War and meet with his POW buddies and talk about what he learned about character when he sat in that cell in hell. And he should give a speech in Sedona, Arizona and talk about the people and places in his hometown that affected him.”
And what did McCain spend last week doing? Well, let’s see, McCain made appearances in Meridian, Pensacola, the Naval Academy, and Prescot, Arizona (which is near Sedona), all as part of a “biographical tour to the places in the country that have made him who he is.”
We already knew that Rove has at least some role in advising McCain, but this does raise an ethical issue: Rove has put on his "journalist" hat to praise a strategy he appears to have come up with, without disclosing his role with the campaign.
Insert joke here about the need for a bloggers ethics panel.

"Once a loser, always a loser," and now abetting a born loser.
I'd let Rove advise me on anything, except how to go about my working life. I work in one of the...oldest professions known to the human family. I also appreciate Rove's committment to family values whenever it's expedient. It might be expedient if Coyners gets an indictment from a Blue AG. We can dream. We can organize...we've even got shadow unions in my...very old profession.
I loved a quote from a fantasy novel once:
"I'd rather enter a pissing contest with a skunk, than have a discussion about ethics with you"
Dissing Rove for unethical behavior as a reporter, when he should be jailed and tried for hell knows how many crimes, is a bit off the mark.
KKKarl Rove's ethics..............hee hee that's an oxymoron!
D'ya'll hear that now kindanasty rice wants to be mccan'ts running mate?
There are several books out now debunking the McCain myth. We all need to enlighten ourselves and make sure the country learns the truth about McCain before it's too late.
By the way, I heard that not only was McCain at the bottom of his class, but he crashed several jets while training to be a pilot. His record is being glorified because he was a POW.
viagraphi tour!!
McCain is being coached from the back by Rove. Although it appears Rove is on the sidelines, he is really pushing some of the buttons behind the McCain Camp.
McCain does equal an extention of Bushco.
McCain is the Manchurian Candidate. Lots of times people forget that things in fiction only mirror real life to a point, and that they do not play out exactly like in a book or on the screen. But....There can be little doubt that Mc Cain received special treatment while in Vietnamese custody, because he survived his very serious injuries.
Also, there can be little doubt that his mind was altered significantly while there, unless he is a robot.
Rove's hand will be in Republican politics as long as he is alive. Anyone who thinks differently is deluding themselves. He is what they are all about, playing dirty and doing anything to win.
What surprises me is when anyone thinks that this skunk has changed his stripe. Both of these men are dangerous goods, and the public should be reminded of it as often as possible.
One thing about republicans they have no honesty, no integrity, no honor, Just greed.
Greed is what they are about!
He should go to South Carolina and talk about when Rove and Bush Co treated him like doggy-doo...
It's all right here: 'MCROVE' RIDES IN TO AID JOHN
Mehlman too. We can expect a rerun of 2000 and 2004 in every way.
You used "ethics" and "Rove" in the same sentence. Rove's ethics are that he will try anything, including misleading or illegal activities to get his candidates elected. He wanted a 100 year Republican rule. Sounds like what Hitler wanted, a 1000 years of Reich rule. Have you noticed that all the people in the BushCo Administration are never at fault for their mistakes. I wish life could be so simple. Take your Rove and shove it!
This is all about KKKarl--the little pig that wishes it could be Pres, but knows it has to squeal behind the drapes.
Read an article in New Yorker a couple years ago about McCain. At that time small paragraph indicated his staff was ecstatic that Rove might help them out in 08.
Anything to win...even after they trased his wife in the S.C. primary McCain thinks Rove is the one to go to...
What is this about McCain saying the United States is "no longer staring into the abyss of defeat" in Iraq?
When did he ever think it was?
For years, hasn't McCain been telling us that Iraq is a Rose Garden?
Did I nap through something?
Here's everything you need to know about why McCain has been sucking up to the Bush MisAdministartion, why he shouldn't be president, and why the first thing he would do as president is bury evidence of Bush's crimes where possible and where cover-ups aren't possible, issue pardons:

McCain loses a lot of credibility when he says things like, "America is no longer staring into the abyss of defeat in Iraq", when there were 4 people killed INSIDE the Green Zone yesterday. Sure looks like defeat to me.
Noting Rove's ethical issue comes as no surprise. Rove has done and will do whatever he thinks is necessary to ensure that his party wins. Therefore, its not suprising to learn that McCain is apparently following Rove's off hand, news pundit remarks. McCain has very little to go on and he is going to need all of the help he can get. He not popular with the social or fiscal Conservatives but is popular with the foreign policy hawks. Basically, what Rove hopes to present to the public isn't the old aged present day John McCain. He wants people to vote for the young, John McCain the Naval Aviator who was a POW in Vietnam. This strategy may be impossible though because todays John McCain is not the same as he was back then. No man or women ever is who they once were.
Since all of Faux News is just one big Republican commercial, having Roe lie on the air is just par for the course. Hell, Roger Ailes, the big poohbah of Faux, himself still gives behind the scenes advice to Bush, McCain, et al. This is minor stuff to getting his political enemies indicted and sent to prison and advising his masters that starting a war would be good politics.
I think Rove is way more than "advising" the McCain campaign and has been from since Grampa got down on his knees, kissed Poppy Bush's ring and agreed to lay off Duhbya for the chance to be the next president. His fingerprints are *all* over McCain.
The thing to really watch is who gets the VP gig, that's the real BushCo plant. Just waiting in the wings...
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
McCain’s ‘bio tour’ and Karl Rove’s ethics
ANSWER..... JOHN "THE REPUBLICAN" MCCAIN HAS A BIO-TOUR !!!!!
"We are no longer staring into the abyss of defeat, and we can now look ahead to the genuine prospect of success," McCain said in a speech prepared for delivery Monday.
How many more Freidman units will it take? How many more American Soldiers' lives? How many more displaced Iraqi's? How many more Dead Civilians? How many more Dollars?
Does John McCain come in PEACE? I think not.
There’s a suspicion on the part of many Dems that Karl Rove’s influence is felt in almost every move made by the Republican Party and its national candidates. The concerns are generally unfounded.
His influence is a mindset, not necessarily direct intervention. I think the concerns are very well founded. Rove changed the way politics work in the U.S. It will never go back again.
"Karl Rove" + "ethical issue" = HAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!
Quotes from Karl Rove … or … Joseph Goebbels
“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”
“Think of the press as a great keyboard on which the government can play.”
“In politics stupidity is not a handicap.”
John McCain has a Bio-Hazard Tour.
Is this one on his bio tour? He should go to wherever it was that he first stepped foot in the United States after being born in the Canal Zone.
I always wondered whether Rove had any ethical standards to speak of.
Then he took a job in the MSM.
Which confirmed my suspicions.
None to speak of.
Fox News...where liars go to die. Ollie North, Karl Rove, Tom Delay, Dick Morris. The woodwork they all come out of.
John Wayne McCain's flag waving Sousa tour has been instructive. The knowledge that he's just another rich Republican who owns a fake ranch has persuaded me that he is a man from the wrong class and the wrong party to be trusted with an oath of allegiance to the constitution, to the common defense of the nation, to the general welfare of the people or to the blessings of individual liberty.
maybe mcfuckhead could go back to panama and visit the abortion
clinic his mother should have gone to for this abnormal birth and
then he could go back to vietnam and apologize to everyone for
his transgressions there. we don't need another dumbed-down
neocon white rich bastard as president. one is all we can afford.
To understand where Karl Rove gets is Bull shit, go read Hitlers Mien Kampf, it is on the Internet. Then you will know all Roves strategy
"turdblossom" just refuses to fade away ... but rove and ethics ? ... WOW ! ... a new definition for "inherent contradiction" ... interesting to note that all of about 100 people showed up at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium for "McNasty's" speech !
Gee, think he'll revisit the Keating Five Scandal?
Anybody see any hope for this swinish nation? I sure as shit don't.
