During tough questioning from Senators Biden and Feingold today, General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker admit, despite their best attempts to downplay, that al Qaeda’s main base of operation and greatest threat comes from Pakistan and Afghanistan; not Iraq.

As VoteVets.org founder Jon Soltz says, the Bush policy has been a failure because it’s a “policy of retreat from bin Laden and Afghanistan.” Perhaps people may have forgotten, but the 9/11 attacks were planned from terrorist safe havens in that country. Terrorist safe havens that still exist and are even stronger today than they were 7 years ago.

well, duh…
So, the logical, the reasonable thing to do would be to focus on the greatest danger. But we live in Bizarro World, so of course that won’t happen. Why can’t we just ship the entire Bush Administration to The Hague and let God sort ‘em out. Or at least the International Court of Justice.
So can they explain WTF we went into Iraq for? I’m waiting….
Crocker has the “baffle-em-with-bullshit ” down to a fine art, and Feingolds` having none of it!
If we would have stayed and completed our mission in Afghanistan, we would have never been able to go into Iraq. The WAR ON TERROR must go on!!! (Sick)
Bush doesn’t want a serious effort in Afghanistan because the bin Laden family members are long time Bush family cronies. Even a dim bulb like W is not going to bite the hand that’s feeding the Bush family.
A vet says,
Look at all those ribbons and stars on General P’s uniform.
Each one, IMO, probably involves some dishonest compromise. Some ass-kissing. Some selling out. You don’t get to his rank TODAY without such groveling.
Though Jon Soltz comes out strong against the dubious success of the surge, nowhere does Soltz then make the logical conclusion that since it is the inflammatory presence of the United States military that is causing the violence and bloodshed in Iraq, the U.S. should then begin to withdraw its troops from Iraq as quickly and as rapidly as possible. Soltz, like fellow Iraq veteran Paul Rieckhoff, makes the mistake of coming across as another liberal hawk.
Obama/Feingold
Obama/Biden
Winning tickets!
But at least Bush tried to take out that infamous Al Qaeda Jungle Gym.
Yeah I suppose Hitler have sold his people on we’re fighting them over there so we don’t have to fight them here at home also.
And how long is the world going to sit by while MIC Capitalists and their Salad Ribbon Chested Boyz continue their rampage all over the planet and someone finally says enough is enough?
I wish one of them would have shut down that BS about all the gains against al Qaeda by asking exactly how many AQ members were in Iraq before the invasion. Way to go guys, create a great big mess that wasn’t there at all, then pat yourself on the back for cleaning it up. My mom didn’t let that fly even when I was 10.
Boy, did Crocker ever spin his response to Biden. He spent more time talking about how they’ve reduced the (always small) al Qaeda in Iraq than he did answering the question. If Biden hadn’t interrupted him to force the issue, who knows how long he would have kept blathering. Worse yet, his spin was pure fiction. Al Qaeda in Iraq has never been as serious a threat to the U.S. a Al Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
This afternoon’s hearing was pure gold.
Biden nailed the administration to the cross, and Barbara Boxer made Crocker look like a moron when he replied to her comment about Ahmadinejad getting greeted with hugs and kisses by saying Cheney had a warm reception.
The overall vibe from Crocker and Petraeus was one of utter and alarming incompetence.
We have got to stop funding this war. Pull out now. Our treasury gone, childrens future gone, reputation gone. Thanks Bush! You truly are the worst president we have had in my lifetime.

Typical guys who constantly create a chaotic existence of error and it’s consequences.
You know Bin Laden and Al Zwahiri watch CNN and laugh their asses off at the debacle in Iraq.
They know radical, right wing Christofascists have been a boon to al Qaeda
Doesn’t matter, because Petraeus is a untouchable “hero” who can do no wrong. To suggest otherwise is to invite the wrath of the miserable GOP. Which is just what they want, because that will distract the US from seeing what a total and complete clusterfuck Iraq is.
What was thier response about BlackWater? The commercial interruped and I didn’t hear their explaination.
P.D. @ 15:
Dont forget we lost a bunch of freedom too!!!
P.D. @ 15:
Worst in the history of our country.
Biden misses the success against Iraqi AQ premise BS and is happy with the Crocker’s answer. We are in deep trouble.
odanny @ 17:
As long as the money keeps rolling in the MIC Republicon Complex will let these guys remain free.
blue balls @ 21:
Bidens a sham.
What’s Afghanistan? The MSM never mentions that country. Are we going to invade them? Last I heard we were helping them fight the USSR.
(I hope your picking up on my sarcasm because i’m laying it on pretty thick)
You ever wonder why Congress won’t stop funding the war?
http://www.iht.com/articles/ap.....tments.php
Ya think maybe that might have something to do with it?
Why the hell isn’t this illegal? Oh yeah, that would take an act of Congress.
Ron @ 21:
Worse than Buchanan?
Yeah, I think he will be when it’s all said and done.
miss_kitty Hussein @ 3:
that question was asked at the beginning of the war and still begs an answer.
you don’t think you will get an honest response from this administration?
bush has given a different response to this question everytime he is asked
and the old response has become to uncomfortable to support or he just
wants to keep everyone as confused as he is.
Well, I guess we can say we lived through the Bush years. Ya know, like the old-timers talk about surviving the Great Depression.
Biden gets 5 stars for that!! (Can I give him 7?)
Although he made some decent points about the frustrations Americans feel with the progress of the war in Iraq, Ohio Republican Senator George Voinovich showed just how out of touch our elected pols can be when he said, “[except for the lives lost] we haven’t had to sacrifice anything….”
When was the last time the senator filled his gas tank at the pump?
P.D. @ 29:
Don’t count your chickens. Heard of Directive 51? The FEMA camps? I’d say it’s even a ‘what if’ statement to assume the Bush era is about to end… or end peacefully for that matter.
VietVet8666 @ 7:
I agree. Its the same old office politics bullshit. Lt Watada has more common sense in his head than a four star general who can’t even just sit down and blurt out the entire truth about Iraq and the vested interests of the beltway that led the country there. And Ambassador Crocker is an apt name, he excels in delivering a Crock of Bullshit to Congress.
And how about this? WGaF about al Qaeda…. Give them the money we’re spending on the war and I’m sure they’ll all convert to Judaism.
P.D. @ 29:
Don’t get too comfortable.
I’ve heard there are actually tent cities cropping up. I hope it isn’t true. But knowing the MSM we will never hear about it.
Now that they’ve ruined Iraq….

Frank, Holy Shit. And these people were homeowners. Christ!

Are we watching the same video?? Biden even made him answer to ‘god almighty’ (nice touch.) Total smackdown.

Well said. A book which drives this point home even more is The Complex: How The Military Invades Our Everyday Lives by Nick Turse. In it, the author describes in detail how incredibly pervasive the military is by insidiously and overtly making its way into all facets of American life, such as through not only the more well known military armaments [Lockheed, Boeing, Northrop Grumman, the General Dynamics Corp., Raytheon, Halliburton, the Bechtel Corp.] but also in the academic world, science, the Internet [MySpace], the entertainment world and in particular, the film industry. Turse has three pages in his book which lists the many corporations that are connected to the Department of Defense, from Bumble Bee Tuna to Cheerios to Lipton Iced Tea to Pepperidge Farm. These corporations have sold their souls in order to maximize their profits while making sure that their consciences remain comatose.
I’m so goddamned sick about hearing of ‘al-Qaeda in Iraq’, as if al-Qaeda were some sort of international terrorist conglomerate, rather than the haphazardous confederacy of independent terrorist organizations who deem fit to adopt the name. ‘al-Qaeda’ does not exist in the sense that a vast majority of Americans believe that it does, and this point must be emphasized this year.
When the hell is this stupid dog and pony show gonna end? It’s almost unbelievable that everyone in the blogosphere, and all around the nation, keep saying the same thing. Oh, look at those Dems go. Boy, they sure owned that Republican General. They sure zinged that Republican there. Well, when the hell are any of these overpaid lifer politicians ever going to do ANYTHING about it? Oh, I know, insert excuse number 3, 456, 123 here.
I don’t care if there’s some type of odd Al-Qaeda element in pakistan- NO US GOVERNMENT INVOLVEMENT IN PAKISTANI AFFAIRS- NO MORE US GOVERNEMNT INVOLVEMENT IN AFGHANISTAN.
Once we stop intervening in other countries, giving them aid, and propping up puppet governments, Al-Qaeda will fade away.
“that al Qaeda’s main base of operation and greatest threat comes from Pakistan and Afghanistan; not Iraq.”
So? I guess there’s no bad guys in Iraq? What’s the point of pointing this out, except ‘out of context’ ?
P.D. @ 39:
You should check out www.brasschecktv.com for news videos/stories you won’t see on MSM.
but the 9/11 attacks were planned from terrorist safe havens in that country
That’s pure speculation! Do you have proof that they weren’t planned in Pakistan? Or Texas for that matter? One thing everyone CAN agree on though is they definitly weren’t planned in Iraq. And Sadaams hatred and disdain for al-Qeada is pretty convincing evidence of that.
Patraeus’ jacket is laden with bars and medals.
Does anyone know what they represent?
VietVet8666 @ 7:
In addition to this comment, I would like to add that it is THEIR BUSINESS…WAR!! That’s what they do. That’s WHY they exist. It’s like going to the oil companies and asking if we should continue to drill for more oil.
Wake the f*ck up America. We have evolved into a military government, a military economy, and we are an imperialist nation bent on conquering wherever and whatever we chose.
QUIT asking these f*cktards if they think we should pull out. They will NEVER say we should leave. It’s their bread and butter.
Enough is enough. Get the f*ck out now..and put these boys back in the hanger.
I’m tired of taking advice from “generals” and “war lobbyists”. Get our troops home now..and save America from itself. F*CK the al queda. We are our worst enemy.
Terrible @ 48: And Sadaams hatred and disdain for al-Qeada is pretty convincing evidence of that.
*sigh*
please, someone tell me again that these two are not looking at iraq through a political lens. anyone? when they gave these answers i heard bush co. all the way.
John H 46 says “So? I guess there’s no bad guys in Iraq? What’s the point of pointing this out, except ‘out of context’ ?”
the point is, their reasoning as to why we need to stay in iraq at great cost in blood and treasure is to defeat al-Qeada. sure there are bad guys in iraq, but we went to war to eliminate the bad guys that attacked us. you see. it appears to many, one might say a majority of americans, that bush took his eye off the real threat by pre-emptively invading iraq and taking the pressure off of….oh why bother, if you don’t get this by now you most likely never will.
