FOX News: Lincoln debated Frederick Douglass in 1858?!?

Turns out the Rhodes Scholars over at “Fox and Friends” think Abraham Lincoln debated Frederick Douglass in the famous Lincoln-Douglas debates of 1858. Of course it was Stephen Douglas. Something tells me Frederick would have had a tough time winning a Senate seat back then. Just a thought.

“Ha. Ha. Rather than spending time mocking their intern, Clayton might have recognized that was Frederick Douglass, the 19th-century African abolitionist leader who certainly wasn’t running for any Senate seat.”

I’d mentioned this earlier on a previous thread - I’m glad you caught and posted it.

Simply unreal. It’s one thing to use the wrong person but quite another to naturally assume that in 1858 a black man was debating Lincoln for the Presidency. The levels of stupidity and negligence on this one is beyond palpable.

For the record, I think Frederick Douglass was a hero. It’s a side mission in my life to write a screenplay on this amazing persona of U.S. history. Aside from 3 seconds in “Glory” I’ve never seen the man portrayed in film. That’s a shame.

As to Fox News? Again. Unreal.

LOL - I can only laugh at this story because it’s so ridiculous. A Black man participated in a Presidential debate as a candidate during slavery? LOL…ahahahaha

I’m not sure which most firghtening — that a FUX News intern thought video might exist of the Lincoln-Douglass debates, that the FUX News talking heads don’t know who the Douglas of those debates were, or that no one noticed that the guy in the picture was black.

I do think it’d be funny, though, if the intern had slipped that picture onto the screen. “Yeah, you got me, assholes. Now I’ll show you.”

Frederick Douglass by all accounts was a brilliant man.

Stephen Douglas was an able debater who won against Lincoln in the Senate election of 1858, but lost the Presidential election of 1860. The South in 1860 split the Democratic vote with their own Democratic candidate, thus handing the election to Lincoln.

Maybe Clinton will run as an independent?

Gaaahhhh! Teh ST00p1d! It burns!!!!

Frederick Douglass, as an escaped slave would not have been a citizen of 19th Century America. He was seen as a radical on par with Cindy Sheehan (closest modern analogy there is off the top of my head) at the time. Fred was a brilliant man indeed, his autobiography is a must-read for understanding what it was like to be a slave in the 19th Century.

Frederick Douglass was one of the most awesome men the United States has ever produced, but sadly enough he would not have been eligible to run for President (which he actually did in the 1880s,) until the 14th Amendment gave former slaves citizenships.

But that wasn’t even a Presidential debate, it was a race for the national Senatorial seat in Illinois. Stephen Douglas is a man who was misguided to the point of bordering on evil in terms of the consequences. And, also, Stephen Douglas has one “s” in his name, Frederick Douglass has two.

And this guy is a Rhodes Scholar???? O.o

Yeah, and the commentators will note that the likely reason Truman got the presidency involved the powers-that-be and their antipathy to the Dewey Decimal System.

And it’ll all be followed by a tribute to Sen. Joe McCarthy.

Bush Regime back peddles on it’s lie that somebody else put up that Mission Accomplished banner. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/200.....complished

White House propagandist Tokyo Perino blames the media, says: “President Bush is well aware that the banner should have been much more specific and said `mission accomplished’ for these sailors who are on this ship on their mission,” White House press secretary Dana Perino said Wednesday. “And we have certainly paid a price for not being more specific on that banner. And I recognize that the media is going to play this up again tomorrow, as they do every single year.”

How about this banner Tokyp Perino? “mission accomplished’ for these sailors who are on this ship on their mission for Halliburton’s no bid government contracts so Cheney’s stock options could increase 3,200% yet managed to come back home with life and limb in tact provided the don’t get stop lossed again and get get killed on their 4th tour for big oil,” Guess it would have wrapped around the aircraft carrier twice so the banner was deemed too large.

Bitch.
