Tim Russert Takes Offense, Bans Arianna Huffington From NBC News

Nikke Finke:

Well, one insider says she was booked on Keith Olberman and Morning Joe to talk about her tome — and then unbooked. “These are shows that call her regularly to come on. And then the word came from on high that she had to be cancelled.”

Brave New Films:

It seems that Arianna Huffington has run up against the impenetrable wall that is Tim Russert’s ego. Huffington, who is currently on tour for her new book Right Is Wrong: How The Lunatic Fringe Hijacked America, Shredded The Constitution, and Made Us All Less Safe, will be appearing on CNN, ABC, and CBS. She had been booked on Morning Joe and Countdown with Keith Olbermann as well, but those bookings were suddenly and inexplicably cancelled.

NBC confirmed that Huffington wouldn’t be booked on any NBC-affiliated show to promote her book, but refused to explain why. Huffington’s people say that this is Tim Russert’s doing, that Russert is out for revenge because Huffington called him a “conventional wisdom zombie” in her book and devoted seven pages to faulting Russert for allowing his Meet the Press guests to go unchallenged (not to mention HuffPo’s RussertWatch).

Oh, did the poor widdle WATB get his feelings hurt? Or were Arianna’s words just a little too close for comfort?

You could often hear Imus thanking Russert for putting him on the air.
‘Nuff said.

AND who can ever forget Cruella Matlin telling Scooter to go on
MTP when Plamegate was breaking— Russert was and IS Cheney’s lapdog.

Russert may as well have an office at the White House.
Hope he settles in Paraguay with the whole lot of them.

russert is an ass. and has a very fragile ego
much like his overused anus.

Poooooor itty, bitty, tiny timmeth got his feeling hurt…poor baby.

6
AndyZ Says:

Well, they edit the comments on Huffington Post they don’t agree with, so what’s the difference?

7
Rico Says:

Why would anyone expect NBC to interrupt its 24/7 Rev. Wright coverage with anything or anybody else right now? Hell, the newest, and most powerful U.S. aircraft carrier right now is steaming toward the Persian Gulf, and even that doesn’t count as a worthy topic. Huffington calling out the press for their complicity and expecting to get time? Furgettaboutit.

8
DL Says:

This is censorship, pure and simple. The networks practice it when anyone dare criticize them. We have a real problem with how the media in this country operates.

9
qwert Says:

it is a shame that one little WATB can effect a whole networks policy. One would think each show would be able to book whomever they want. If I were as popular as KO I would insist it in my contracts.

Paul’s Bunions Says:

Mr.Potatohead needs to STFU and stop playing with people’s live!

11
J.Sykes Says:

Everyone should write or call MSNBC and complain, does this Russert man think he owns the airwaves, every time I have seen him he has always pandered to the republicans, only asking hard questions of the democrats.

12
Brianna Says:

What a pompous blowfish! What’s he afraid of? It’s obvious that Tim wouldn’t be able to defend her criticisms against him. The truth hurts. He has revealed how thin-skinned he is. Long live censorship, right Timmy boy?

13
hope Says:

“Conventional wisdom zombie” hurts Timmy’s feelings? That’s mild compared to what I’ve been calling him.

14
mrbadmood Says:

Interesting. Is any movement in the works yet to get MSNBC to explain the ‘inexplicable’?

Is such an effort even worth the sweat anymore?

15

Arianna advocates media shunning of Ann Coulter. Arianna has got no grounds to complain if NBC decides to shun her. What goes around…comes around.

I’m somewhat surprised they have K.O on such a short leash. As far as Russert goes I’ve always thought he was a striking counter example of the theory that cranial capacity is somehow correlated with intelligence. There must be a lot of underutilized space in that sconce of his.

19
FBush Says:

While I believe that Arianna has played a HUGE part
in creating the divide in the Dem party,
I nonetheless LOVE that she’s got that corporate whore’s panties in a bunch.

Ahhh poor Russert got his feelings hurt.
The Truth hurts sometimes

21
Anais Says:

Timmeh IS a conventional wisdom zombie. He hasn’t helped the American public one little bit, but allowed mistruths and outright lies to be promulgated on his show, to the great detriment of the American public, which is headed for disaster once China starts calling in our outrageously high loans. Oh, how Huntley would mourn and Brinkley probably is mourning the dlownfall of their once-great network news sensibility.

That’ll never happen. But I’ll bet Olbermann would love to do it.

So NBC shuns Arianna and showcases Ann Coulter.

They also endorse war and think that Bush is a great Neo Con.

It’s the adams apple that turns me off. That and the big hands. Surgeons and hormones can do wonders these days; but, they can’t hide the man hands.

Steve Buch Says:

What’s to fear Tim? The irony is too delicious. We get the fact that todays news groups have to pull their commercial weight and serve their corporate parents. It will be near impossible for these relics to keep the lid on this blatent anti viewer behavior much longer. There is a good reason the evening news anchor programs are “serving” half the collective viewership as 20 years ago. The format is obsolete and the content is stale before it airs. There is no depth or gravitas in the presentation. Most of these folks are beholding to someone and you’ll see more of the interchangeability of newsguys as politicians and politicians as news guys as time goes on. With the lines blurred, the propaganda can flow freely.

29
Ace Says:

Huffington’s blog has degenerated so much it is no longer a daily stop, but NBC has become just as worthless with Matthew’s bias, and the crap that’s on most of the day. Both are examples of extreme ideology gone wild.

30
Doggiebobo Says:

drago@15: Arianna’s suggested shunning of Man Coulter is not working. I saw
her twice in the last two days….with Glenn Beck on CNN and on Faux Noise,
so(in both instances giving Obama hell because of Rev. Wrong). The problem
here is that Timmeth Potatohead has toooo much power at NBC and can shut
someone down vs. “a suggestion” by Arianna.

Renell Says:

It is a disheartening situation to see the public air waves(I’m not talking public T.V.),being hijacked by the offensive diatriibes of corporate punditry and media whores. I would file a complaint with the EPA for air(wave) pollution, but they have bent over ,also. For the love of the Constitution, what in the hell has happened to MSNBC and Russert and Matthews-I heard that Matthews, who used to work for Tip O’Neill, and who is from Pennsylvania,is considering a run for Senator-might this explain his Hillary fixation-Russert has become another schmoe-just what IS the shelf life for integrity?

32
Edwin Says:

“They” want to control our “soma” drip. A little Keith Olbermann for a weekend escape, but no one escapes entirely, forever. Toss the mob a few goodies to placate them, but always march forward with “the agenda”.

33
chuck Says:

After the Democrats win the White House, I hope they make Arianna the White House Press Secretary.

34
Doggiebobo Says:

Renell@31: The rationale used by the MSM is that, for example, both Timmeth
Potatohead and Chris Hardball Muckin are considered as “journalist” and not news
reporters, so their slanted/biased views can be expressed. I do however totally
concur w/your comments…the MSM is a disgrace and sucks.

35
tanglewood Says:

Russert and his wife, Maureen Orth who writes for Vanity Fair have had a war of words going with Arianna for quite sometime. Apparently, Orth wrote about the Huffington’s when they were married and it wasn’t quite right and all hell broke loose.

If Russert had a conscience he would stop spewing his bullshit every Sunday and he would begin to start playing it straight with the american people who make up his audience. All he has to resort to are gotcha questions when he has dems on and he gives a pass to his corporate pals who are repugs. As far as I am concerned, he has as much blood on his hands and is just as responsible for the 4,065 americans who have died in Iraq as the administration does.

If they had been objective and tried to get the facts about Iraq we would never have gone to war. Personally, I don’t watch the clown or his other little pals at NBC. I don’t know how these people look themselves in the mirror.

LOL

Looking askance at the sconce counterintuitively suggests ‘Richard Cranium’ decapacitation utililization under intellectual spacialization theorization on Face the Nation unleashing K.O. fan’s depreciation…at the risk of being shunned myself ;-}

Integrity is a spiritual quality or mode of life that one can possess as much integrity as they can embody. There is nothing and hardly no one in the media that embodies integrity. Therefore they possess none. BTW, there is no shelf life, you either have it or you don’t.

The End of America: Letter of Warning to a Young Patriot
A Citizen’s Call To Action By Naomi Wolf

Fascism: Fast and furious in ten historic steps.
1. Invoke a terrifying internal and external enemy
2. Create a gulag
3. Develop a thug caste
4. Set up an internal surveillance system
5. Harass citizens’ groups
6. Engage in arbitrary detention and release
7. Target key individuals
8. Control the press
9. Dissent equals treason
10. Suspend the rule of law
Naomi Wolf says: Recent history has profound lessons for us in the U.S. today about how fascist, totalitarian, and other repressive leaders seize and maintain power, especially in what were once democracies. The secret is that these leaders all tend to take very similar, parallel steps.

I’m curious now how K.O. will respond to this or if he’ll even address it.

I like Russert. I like most NBC personalities.

But he has to admit that he was on the front lines on the media blitz to sell the Iraq War and other Bush lies to the American people.

No kidding. If he’s that fragile he shouldn’t be a public personality at all.

These Reich-wingers though - they don’t like being kicked in their baby balls by a woman. Remember Scaborough having a hissy-fit last week because Rachel Maddow wouldn’t let him talk over her?

“I’m a real man, goddamnit - and I won’t let a mere woman tell me what an ass-hat I am.” (beats both fists heavily on chest . . . .)

Snowball Says:

Yet Arianna still doggedly refuses to utter the phrase, the Corporate Media. Vacillating between Kos’ absurd “Traditional Media” and the wholly inaccurate “Main Stream Media,” all she is left with to try and describe the media and how it functions is a vague notion that it is merely driven by the choices and herd instinct of talking heads such as Russert. This argument is similar to the specious right wing sociological theory called COP or the Culture of Poverty which seeks to explain away the institutional reasons for poverty and flip the blame on black culture. Simply summed up, this argument is a construct designed to ignore the responsibility of elite power structures and blame the victim. Following her blog posts over the years on the subject, she continually misses the mark. She’s right about the media’s behavior, but unable to explain it.

45
Doggiebobo Says:

TypicalWhiteGuy@37: Two observations: Can you substantiate that “hundreds
of Hillary supporters have been banned from this website?” And second, regardless
of how you or I or others feel about A. Huffington, it is considered censorship when
Timmeth Pototohead can excercise such power and authority and eliminate her
as a guest on the entire NBC network

You’ve nailed it, but Arianna just doesn’t get it. Try going over to HuffPo and reading her latest blog about the Pentagon propaganda scandal. She can tell you what their doing, but she doesn’t seem to understand why.
