Middling McCain’s Environmental Muddle

EnergySmart:

The McCain campaign’s greenwashing efforts are getting hit from all sides and could actually provide a unifying factor across the political spectrum: everyone finds it absurd. As per EarthFirst, Finally, Something the Righties and Lefties All Agree On: McCain Needs to Stop this Environment Crap.

While those concerned about seeing that nation (and global community) rise up to address the challenges of Global Warming with enough seriousness are concerned over the inadequacies of McCain’s proposals and find the concept of “eco-friendly items” at the McCain campaign store utterly absurd (for fund, see the comments section here), the (uber) conservatives are outraged that McCain is taking a step toward the reality-based policy world. Let’s take Rush Limbaugh, for example:

“The troubling thing here, Senator McCain, is I’m mapping out plans here to try to persuade Republicans to eventually cross over to vote for you and this is not making it any easier,” conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh said on his May 12 show. “At some point Republicans are going to have to decide whether to cross the aisle and vote for McCain. Clearly, he’s rolling the dice in thinking that the ‘green’ community and the independents and the yutes out there will buy into this global warming business and think he’s different than the average conservative Republican and that will stand him in good stead.”

Note that Limbaugh is stating that voting for the Republican nominee for President will be, in his definition, a “cross-over” vote. To vote for McCain would be “cross the aisle”. For me, this shows yet another way that Limbaugh is disconnected from reality, as if McCain has not be a highly loyal Republican through the years, despite his media stardom as (the myth of) the Great Maverick.

McCain will do as much for the environment as his League of Conservation Voters rating.

Absolutely zero.

Having Rush refer to “crossing the aisle” to vote for McCain is part of the right wing pretense that McCain is middle of the road. Rush is simply reading from his script sent to him by the RNC.

Fringe righties will vote McCain because they do what they are told. If the RNC can continue to convince the independents that McCain is NOT really the right winger that he actually is, they hope to get that vote.

Rush is just playing his part out for them. Remember folks, Rush is simply an entertainer who reads from a script. Yes, Rush is indeed disconnected from reality, but that’s because he is connected to the RNC. This is their script.

McCain has officially been handed the “Do and Say Anything to Get Elected” baton, and is likely to carry it all the way until November. It suits him well. He’s about as green as the sun is on a bright summer day.

He did ask them to vote Democrat in the primaries

No mistake. McCain is a greenhorn when it comes to Green Issues.

What’s a “yute” ? Rush used the term with “green community” and “independents”.

I think he is concerned that the ditto heads he got to vote in the Democratic primary will think they are supposed to vote Democratic in the GE. Remember ditto heads are not to bright

A yute is a legal term used by Joe Pesci in “My Cousin Vinney”…..
LOL, it is youths.

Hey, Rash Limburger… I’ve got a question for you, and it’s a quote from a real Conservative, Barry Goldwater: “How can you claim to be a Conservative if you’re against conservation?”

Just another example of how these idiots have hijacked the word “conservative” and used it to pass radical rightwing bills past a lazy and gullible public.

Maybe if Rush and McCain keep their mouths shut, they will be saving the ozone!

Listen for the term “extreme environmentalist”. I heard it once already from McCain and I heard it last week from some other republican. This is going to be the phrase they use regarding any environmentalist who is serious about protecting ANWR from drilling along with anyone trying to stop drilling off Florida and other coasts.

McCain and his ilk call themselves environmentalist as long as it doesn’t require them to actually act in that regard.

I don’t know why Rush has his knickers in a knot, McCain will bend when the corporate world puts the screws to him about the invasion and results the environmental community will have on their corporate wealth. Money always speaks louder than science to the majority of the republican party.

Sit your beverage down before you read this quote from the comments linked above as “here”.

Ready? Okay, here we go.

“So, how many of you have actually listened to what John McCain has to say? He’s got the most experience out of all the candidates currently running. He’s way more consistent than Hillary Clinton and actually knows what his positions are, unlike Barrack.

He’s also had to learn how to handle high pressure situations with clean, accurate, quick decisions the first time as a Navy pilot.”

Now really, stop laughing for a second. This was one readers sincere feelings, clueless though that reader might be.

What?! The Hell?! Was That?!

While few youths came out to support McCain, the ones who did said their views were in sync with McCain’s? Ya think?!?!

“I’m about recycling, he’s about recycling. I’m about the gas thing; he’s about the gas thing.”

?!?!?!?!?!?!?!????!!!!?!?!?!?!

Heh, watch this McCain ad. It posits Maverick McCain as Goldilock’s choice — you know, “just right,” as opposed to “too hot” (Democrats) and “too cold” (Republicans).

Why, because Democrats want crippling regulations to deal with the environmental crisis, while Republicans deny there is a crisis.

And that’s it. What is “just right?” Who the fuck knows? Apparently, it’s merely recognizing that there is a problem, not actually doing anything specific about it.

Ha!! Would rush be showing mcsame the scars that got him out of serving his country. (boy now, that is a frightening thought ain’t it?)

But is rush saying that there is something wrong with thinking Green? Is the far right so far gone that they don’t give a hoot about the planet?

Read Glen Greenwalds book “Great American Hypocrites” it sure paints the rethuglican macho actor picture in bright colors with crystal clarity.

I like the ideas; I just don’t like the typos.

DUH!!!

It’s ‘psychology’ nimrods!

He’s planting the idea that ‘greenies’ can ‘cross-over’ and vote for McCain.

Read it again and slower this time… Read a little into it… It’s sort of like nuance, and we rarely hear it used from the right…

Why exactly is drilling off our coast bad if it would get us away from the Saudis? I’ve never quite heard an explanation for it, and one would be useful. Is Rush using a strawman here or something? It might help in the arguments I have with a wingnut father and mother…

I watched part of this and realized WHERE he gave it and also WHY, it was not really about environmental pandering…it was nuclear pandering…and what POP said above…it really is also a way for them to appear before another audience and fear monger that EXTREME word ( which they use like “COMMIE” in the fifties..)

( about drilling off the Coast- down south , I think that I had heard some of those fields near the Gulf are maxed out…?)

Perhaps. However, it seems that everyone just wants to extend things on oil, forgetting that Hubbert’s Peak has already passed.

If we continue on this track, there will be a fall of globalized civilization. How bad the results will be for our descendants is left to us to decide.

It’s all spin to get the cross over from Democrats.
This manufactured disdain is to manipulate the middle. Rush has gotten the marching orders to diss MCcain to make his puke palatable. Same way Coulter and the others treat him. It’s all a mind game and unfortunately …John….You need you need to wake up.

The bullshit ‘moderate’ twist is all pre-planned Rovian spin.

McCain is as neocon as they come. His presdiency of NCP (New Citizen Project) with Bll Kristol as the chairman, funded the birth of PNAC, and in fact they share the same address.

Media manipulation and coordination is their game plan, and is clearly stated in NCP and PNAC websites.

Teddy Roosevelt would turn in his grave to see what the Republicans are doing to the overall environment. And, it’s even bad enough that he admitted Iraq was invaded for oil, and pathetically adding that it won’t be done again. Try this: The US only has 3% of known oil reserves. The Middle East has 66%. We will never drill our way to energy independence under the current consumptive oil paradigm. Ultimately, conservation and living within our means is a far more cost effective and permanent solution.

It’s just another way that the Republicans are trying to capitalize on the national swing to the left by dishonestly selling their latest criminal as actually being ‘centrist’, or ‘independent,’ which is obviously bs. It’s all about marketing and branding: if in the voters’ minds the last association with ‘Republican’ is George W. Bush, you’ve got to somehow differentiate the new candidate from that association.
