Mark Kirk (R-IL10): ”if we see Obama, there’s a shoot-on-sight order“. He meant to say Osama, but how many times will we see this mistake from a Republican?
Darcy Burner (WA-08): Darcy is catching up big time on Republican incumbent Dave Reichert. The latest poll has her within 6 points. Reichert knows he’s in trouble and has called in the “heavyweights” of the Republican Party to help raise funds, including Gingrich and Boehner. You can fight by donating to Darcy’s Blue America account here.
Nancy Boyda (KS-02): The latest polls show Boyda comfortably leading both challengers Ryun and Jenkins.
And finally, in NM-01 and 02, Robert Novak of all people, recognizes that the Republicans are going to have a tough time of it:
New Mexico-1: ”This could be a very bad year for Republicans in New Mexico”Together with the likely loss of the U.S. Senate seat, both GOP-held house seats are in danger.
In the Albuquerque seat being vacated by retiring Rep. Heather Wilson (R), Republicans have the benefit of a strong candidate in Bernalillo County Sheriff Darren White (R), but they have the disadvantage of demography and a bad political environment. Democrats have nominated Albuquerque City Councilman Martin Heinrich (D).[..]
Considering only the candidates, White has the edge, but the political landscape seriously favors Heinrich. Bush’s name and the GOP brand are dirt in New Mexico.[…]
Because we expect a strong Democratic tide, White’s strengths look likely to be wiped out by a Democratic surge. Leaning Democratic Takeover.
New Mexico-2: This is the “Republican district” in New Mexico, but it could be represented by a Democrat next year. In 2004, Bush took 58 percent of this district, which covers the Southern half of the state, but the GOP might have nominated the wrong candidate.
I think we may have cause to celebrate much come November.
No Trackbacks To “Congressional Races Update“

So glad to see the arse end of Heather Wilson.
Wait, that’s not worded right……. oh, well.
For the rest of the campaign season, of course. This is one of those “wink-wink, nudge-nudge” jokes so beloved by 13-year-olds who are well on their way to becoming Vegas pimps and Republican thugs, or, if they work hard long hours and pray hard enough, both.
It’s funny listening to impotent Republicans talk all tough about what they’d do if they caught Osama. It’s like listening to high school boys talk about what they’d do if they could get with Angelina Jolie.
Is anybody running against Steny Hoyer? If not, cansomebody be mobilized to do so?
I disagree with the Osama shoot-on-sight order.
I demand a trial — a full U.S. trial — for him if he’s caught.
No presumption of guilt. Burden of proof on the prosecution — beyond a reasonable doubt.
This guy obviously dislikes actions America has taken in the Mid-East.
But he has consistently said he wasn’t behind 9/11.
I wasn’t either. And I’d like a full investigation.
After “impeachment off the table” and the FISA sellout - who cares? Democrat. Republican. Same bloody thing.
And Boyda calls the FISA bill with telecom immunity “sinister.”
A lot of her chicken shit colleagues should take note. You do not have to bow down to a 27% approved president.
Paul @ 4:
I hear that.
Wish I lived in Maryland. Could’ve funded the entire campaign today.
Mickxotic @ 6:
Same, same.
How about an update on Gordon Smith (R-OR), one of the stinkingest republicans in the Senate?
He’s voted with Bush over 90% of the time, but his televised ads say he’s “independent” and bi-partisan. He’s even got a couple of female “Democrats” telling us why they’re not voting for the Democratic candidate and are, instead, voting for the stinking republican, Gordon Smith.
The guy is as slippery as an eel.
I’m going to have to see film of Kirk making his “mistake” before I say anything.
Assume nothing, fight every election really hard and take every step possible to strangle the potential for voter fraud at the beginning.
If the Republicans are pushed really hard everywhere, they might get (politically) fatally tied down defending territory they didn’t expect to have to compete at all in.
VietVet8666 @ 9:
they keep same’n, when they ought to be a change’n
You for got NC-08!
Democratic challenger Larry Kissell is the only challenger in the nation polling AHEAD of slimeball incumbant Robin Hayes.

Osama/Obama, what difference does it make?
Does anyone really believe a republican is going to be in a situation to give a military order? That would, you know, require them to actually SERVE in the military.
Service is the polar opposite of republicanism.
Mark Kirk (R-IL10): ”if we see Obama, there’s a shoot-on-sight order“. He meant to say Osama, but how many times will we see this mistake from a Republican?

With all due respect, Nicole dear, I think you’re giving them too much credit. Personally, I’m less inclined to consider this a mistake and more inclined to consider it a Freudian slip…
Vulgar is an understatement and bullshit it was just another mistake.
these guys know exactly what they are saying and oops I mispoke is just not good enough.
We’ll have cause to celebrate with Dems in control, eh? Our Dem-led House has proven otherwise with the telecom immunity capitulation…
I wouldn’t be surprised if there really was a shoot to kill order on Obama from the Republicans. They know they have no chance in November on either the presidential or congressional levels. These are desperate times for them.

The combat dodging chickenhawks are always the “bravest” aren’t they?
Heather Wilson isn’t “retiring.” She vacated her seat to run for Senate. She lost in the primary and is now out of a job. Further, she lost to a hardcore righty, illustrating that only the hardcores voted. Wilson is what passes for a moderate. She would have posed a decent opponent to Udall for Senate with strong support in Albuquerque, including a fair number of Dems. Instead she is “retiring,” and the hardcore righty has no shot. They’ve backed themselves into a corner and the Senate may well get two new Udalls.
VietVet8666 @ 9:
then everyone everywhere has to preface anything they put to print with the word IMPEACH. that would include all posts to this blog. if you want impeachment, it ain’t gonna happen until there is a grass roots movement that demands impeachment.
Thanks Nicole. Let’s keep after them. Peace.
“I think we may have cause to celebrate much come November”.
Too bad the Constitution won’t be around to enjoy the party.
New Mexico will do me proud if we manage to get at least 3 democrats elected in November.
I see the White/Heinrich race as very competitive because White has such huge name recognition. Every time there’s a crime in Bern. Co. he’s on television as the face of law enforcement. I like the guy but despise his politics.
Heinrich ran a good race for the primary. I hope he can pull off the general election in the face of the PR imbalance.
Paul @ 4:
Great question.
Maryland’s 5th Congressional District
For some reason (like slowing down near a car wreck) I clicked on the Novak link (human events) and read some of the comments. Those people are bat shit crazy!
Please can’t we get some national love for some great Minnesota races that could flip at least 2 out of 3 seats!
MN-02 is listed as safe Republican, but the most recent generic polls show a tie at generic dem vs. generic repub. In addition, we are running an Iraq War Vet that appeals in this conservative district. John Kline is one of the most conservative and partisan do nothings in congress, and we can beat him.
MN-03 open Repub seat considewred a toss up. Again, we are running an Iraq War vet in a traditionally conservative district. This one can be ours with some help.
MN-06 This one we have an arch conservative district considered likely repub, but we are running a Blue Dog endorsed Dem, which is a bonus in this district. We have to flip this one as it is the infamous and lunatic Michelle Bachmann!
These deserve as much national spotlight as any race I would think.
Thanks,
Alec
48 states - I’ve been saying it since March
When Obama gets elected will these people who “mistake” Osama for Obama get thrown in prison for making threats against the President?
That asshole didn’t mean “Osama” and he knows it and we all know it. Motherfucker needs to be booked to a long stay in Gitmo if he thinks that shit is so fucking funny.
…is there anyone with a foot big enough to put up……!!!
I’d like to add my 2 cents about a fantastic candidate running in Ohio. He is given very little chance to win, but I and my fellow Dems are doing what we can to help. His name is David Robinson and he’s running against Pat Tiberi in the OH-12th district, which is Franklin County (Columbus), Delaware County, and part of Licking County. He’s got a great website and is trying to raise money, since the ODP hasn’t given him much support (because they think it’s a safe Republican seat). If you’re from this area, PLEASE go to David’s website and consider sending him a few bucks. Tiberi is being bankrolled by a bunch of insurance companies. The website is www.robinson2008.com. Tiberi has voted with Bush 93% of the time, has voted against raising the minimum wage and also voted against extending unemployment comp. for workers for 13 weeks.
Darcy Burner is a good candidate in need of some help. I live in the next district over.
She lost by a VERY close margin last time around to Bush Republican, Dave Reichart. Help her out if you can. She CAN win this, it will be a hard fight.
Please, please. Mention Bob Conley (D-SC) who is running against Lindsey Graham (whom we all know like to go on trips to Iraq with McCain and “look cool”) a pro-Bush, pro-war Republican for the US Senate seat. Bob Conley is one of those GOP guys who jumped ship and joined the Dems to resist the GOP (for every right reason). Now Conley has won the Democratic primary and will face Graham.
And yes, this is that Bob Conley who voted for Ron Paul (the best candidate besides Kucinich on the war) in the SC primary. Politics, yes, makes strange bedfellows. For more info, click here.
And what’s left unmentioned in this Obama-gasm is how he has endorsed Blue Dog Georgia Rep. John Barrow over the progressive Regina Thomas. (Just as he endorsed Lieberman over Lamont.) Barrow has consistently advocated for Bush’s fascist policies and strongly supports giving the telecomms immunity.
Vote McKinney and send the Demo-Corporate Party a strong message!
Don’t forget about Rick Noriega in Texas. He’s trailing by less than 5 points against John Cornyn. In Texas. Don’t write off that state. Contribute.

Boyda needs to be replaced by a true blue Democrat!
