What is this world coming to when a Scary Brown Blind Dirty Farking Hippy Person can reanimate an anti-family-values song by a known deviant for the amusement of a bunch of “Old Yurp” Socialist Germans? Truly the terrorists have finally won.

And don’t forget how he dissed the national anthem in the ‘68 World Series.
OLE!
man, I luvs me some latin music like that.
Stuart Eugene Thiel @ 2:
He didn’t dissed it, he played it differently, in slow Latin jazz style, which at the time was considered heresy, especially from a ‘dirty’ Puertorican. Remember, this was at the height of the Vietnam war, when, just like now, we are surrounded by idiots with closed minds who think anything new or different must be evil.
Now, EVERYONE sings or plays the national anthem somewhat differently, and not only is it allowed, but expected nowadays. As a Puerto Rican, thanks Jose!
Good choice tonight but don’t call Latinos brown, that’s uncool even in jest.
I’m about to piss off many a Doors fan, but Jose Feliciano’s version of “Light my fire” is much more compassionate and soulful, performed by a more talented musician and singer.
Left&Left @ 5:
Then why don’t you provide us with a link to it?

Mudshark@6 Then why don’t you provide us a link to it
The only version available is at You tube and the quality is bad. I didn’t say that to convince you Mudshark, it’s just my opinion. I have BOTH versions on my ipod and I just think Jose’s interpretation is better. And BTW site monitor, why would you place such a simple adverse point of view in moderation?
{It was accidental Left, my fault and mine alone. SiteMonitor}
Thanks, site monitor. I love both versions.
After a Ramones show in the late 70’s, me and some people were hanging out with the new drummer in his motel room watching Johnny Carson.
Jose came on and midsong broke into “Machine Gun”.
A nylon string sounding like an electric.
Marky fell out of his chair.
We all flipped.
Ah, some Jose Feliciano music. This is the good stuff we have here. Love you, Jose … and I have a special fondness for The Doors, too.

There are a couple live versions of this on YouTube, too, but the sound quality isn’t as good and the guys can’t ogle Uma….
99 @ 14:
Thank you for this 99. I request this song from the Mariachis when I’m in Mexico. It really is a great song. There are two versions of it. One Spanish, and the other Mexican. thanks again 99.
Well, yer sure welcome, mudshark! I really love that song, and that band.
But I think I linked the wrong video of the right song….

This isn’t as goofy childish as the other, but the song ROCKS.
jose & andy williams doing hi healed sneakers over at skippy…
and if you like different versions of the star spangled banner, here’s hawaii’s own jake shimabukuro w/his take on our national anthem.
he’s a genius, whenever i play a cd of his in the store, everyone starts listening. they almost always recognize his voice, and love the songs. But most had never heard more than light my fire or feliz navidad. his voice is passionate but controlled and his talent on the guitar is rare.
ooh, driftglass and skippy … you have truly excelled with the musical selections tonight …
Jake Shimabukuro, WOW …. a most excellent rendition of your national anthem. Fantastic !
Set the comtrrols!
Around 1980 or so, I was a cocktail waitress at a showroom where Jose played for a couple of days. A fair number of the “celebrities” who passed through were assholes, but Jose was delightful, just a really good guy. And a surprising guitarist! I knew only Feliz Navidad and Light My Fire (and, forgive me, I thought his version was irritating), so I had no idea what a fine musician he is. IIRC, in between and among and around Feliz Navidad and all that, he went in more of an Al diMeola direction.
Good times. Thanx for a cozy little memory, driftglass
The Feliciano is marvelous, certainly, however, in the band of additional selections, the vocal by Antonio Aguilar y Joselito, with the horse ‘dancing’ the percussion, is miraculous! Wow! Wow! WOW!
I ran monitors for him once. At the Star City Showroom in Sydney. What a great spirit. He played and sang to everyone in the green room before the show. A man who lives for music and loves to play.
The show was wonderful. The band was tight and Feliciano was on fire.
My two cents.
;)
Can somebody please tell me the title of this song? I’ve never heard it - what an incredible talent!
And a link if you have it - the video upstairs leaves me no trail to follow…thanks!

lafin gas, you’ve been busy as well, eh. I will have some tunes to review, I see.
Stubear, Jose Feliciano en lima @ 8 … incredible stuff … excellent. Night, all.
Mr. D. Glass, you are a gentleman of consummate style and truly impeccable taste. You do the BEST Late Night Music Clubs!
Thank you for José!
Stuart Eugene Thiel @ 1:
Thass pure bullshit, hoss, and others have already called you out on it.
But I felt compelled, somehow, to tell ya, FUCK OFF!
Drifty, how DO you find these fucks? :D
Left&Left @ 5:
I’m not pissed off, but yer wrong.
The Doors were DEFINITIVE in their interpretations of the song.
And each and every ONE of them, nailed it time after time.
Feliciano? He re-engineered it. And nailed it, time after time.
You just don’t compare one to the other . . . any good music appreciationist will tell ya that.
So yer posit, kinda sucks, ya know . . . :D
Saw Jose in Germany in the ’80s. A lot of “elderly women” in crowd coming to see & hear some romantic latin stuff….the he broke out the electric stratocaster and shredded on ALL ALONG THE WATCHTOWER !!!
It was great !!! The faces on those “old ladies” was hilarious !!!
Check out Jose’s version of Carlos’ SAMBA PA TI !!!
To Truly Equal and h/h less polite fellow travellers: My comment about JF and the ‘68 Series was written with tongue in cheek that caused me to mumble. I’m with ya on this. My apologies for the inconvenience.
Once again, the name of this song, please! Of course it’s achingly familiar, and the definitive bullfight number, but remember it I cannot!
I’ve been on a Jobim kick for a few years, learning to play and sing that stuff… but I just love Jose. Thanks.
Malaguena.
Right, Malaguena. One of the signature tunes of the Kenton band. I didn’t realize it was anti-family values and would like to hear the story.
Larue@39
Yeah because of course your opinion means soooo much to me. To me, Jose has a greater voice…..period. Bye now.
