Debbie Wasserman-Schultz is one of those politicos that I can’t figure out. She was absolutely great taking down Chris Shays, terribly frustrating talking to Ed Schultz about impeachment, and now, she’s downright infuriating with her refusal to assist fellow Democrat Annette Taddeo over incumbent Republican Ilena Ros-Lehtinen, an even more heinous betrayal considering that Wasserman Schultz has a leadership position in the DCCC, whose job it is to — get this — increase the number of Democratic seats in Congress. AmericaBlog:
DavidNYC reports that leading House Democrat, Debbie Wasserman Schultz (DWS), still won’t help Annette Taddeo’s campaign. It’s ludicrous. Taddeo’s opponent is the Bush-loving, right winger Ileana Ros-Lehtinen. It’s especially galling considering DWS has a leadership role in the DCCC — and may even try to run that organization in the next cycle. So, you’d think supporting all Democrats running for Congress, especially those in her home state, wouldn’t be a tough call for DWS. But, it is. (Also, it should go without saying that supporting all Democratic House candidates should be THE main criteria for anyone in DCCC leadership.)
It’s not like DWS is lacking funds. Besides her own campaign account (where DWS is sitting on over half a million with no real opponent this year), she has a leadership PAC, Democrats Win Seats PAC (DWS PAC, get it?). Check out her list of expenditures here. She’s managed to contribute to a lot of House candidates across the country and to groups like the Ohio Democratic Party. But, she can’t help Annette? What’s up with that? If DWS wants to be a Democratic leader, DWS needs to help all Democrats — and not put her friendship with a Republican ahead of party loyalty. That’s not too complicated, is it?
Since Wasserman Schultz is a no-show on trying to turn this seat for the Democrats, won’t you consider donating to Annette Taddeo’s campaign through Blue America? At least we’re committed to getting more and better Democrats in Congress.

The Dems are appearing more and more desperate to be Repubs. Who would have thought two years ago that this is the kind of worthless Congress we would end up with? I guess we really are just a one-party system.
I donated today, but not much. I spread out 60 bucks to a few candidates on the orange to blue website. I do have a complaint, though, with that site. Once you make the donation, they send you on this send emails to everyone page, without a confirmation that your payment went through. So, I was really concerned that it didn’t till I checked my email. I really hate sending emails out to people without their consent.. no matter how noble the cause. Anyway.. just a little gripe.
Big deal!
I’m in a district with an open seat, MN-3.
I’m not aware of any of the 5 Democratic Congresspersons from MN campaigning for our nominee here.
If a Congressperson wants to help a nominee, then great, but it’s not a scandal when they don’t.
To quote yoda “and that is why you fail.”
She, like the Clintons before her, are the reason the Democratic party is worthless as an opposition party. They have sold out to the special interests and try to govern as Republican light. Her, Hillary, Bill, and the rest need to move on down the road. Hell they are the reason we have Obama. He is a slightly right of center candidate. These people have destroyed the party, they have remove its backbone. The party no longer stands for anything but corporate interests. Just like how the GOP pays lip service to anti abortion issues but never really does much, the current Democratic leaders pay lip service to labor and health care, but all solutions are the corporate solution.
whats wrong with her? she is an incumbent..
said everything right to get in, and now does everything terrible to stay in.
…”getting more REAL Democrates in Congress.”
Debbie, so young in Congress yet ALREADY a sell-out — amazing.
Go girl, you’ll beat McCain’s and Lieberman’s sell-out records in no time.
Too bad you’ll destroy your reputation at the same speed.
Hate to say it, but maybe it’s because DWS and IRL are both JAPs. I guess some things are more important than party loyalty. Let’s just hope she doesn’t turn into another Joe Lieberman.
She’s changed from day to night. It must be corruption that destroyed her purity.
the simplest explanation? extortion. what else would cause her to do exactly what she isn’t supposed to do? sorry, I forgot it is a congressperson and thus expects immunity from law.
eric @ 9:
Ya think?
You must first understand what her job is. It’s not to build a more democratic congress.
It’s to shore up the DLC.
Her job is not to allow progressive liberal Democrats into the fold. Only corporatist middle of the road dems (you know…. like Joe Leiberman) are even wanted. This is not the only liberal that can’t get funding. Florida has a brilliant one.
This has got to stop. We have a fight going on between the “Dean” group of Progressive Democrats who took over the DNC
and the CONSERVATIVE DEMOCRATS WHO OWN THE DLC, DSCC, DCCC, ETC.
Get it?
I just received an email from Cindy Sheehan stating that the Board of Elections are invalidating so many of her collected signatures that they are now in need of 3,000 more signatures within the next 24 hours.
If she can reach her goal she will be included in all debates against Nancy Pelosi (who has just sold a
whoppingpaltry 2,548 copies of her NEW BOOK!!!Please, if you are in the Bay Area and/or know someone there who can help collect signatures, please have them contact Sheehan’s campaign headquarters ASAP!!
Thanks!
Perhaps Taddeo is better off. DWS was a pretty piss-poor surrogate for HRC.
What’s her name? Debbie Lieberman Schultz?
Time to replace the not good enough Dem. We can’t overcome the problems the thugs have made in this country with Dems like her.
Jackie Speirs is a great example of a real Dem.
She probably hates the other lady’s guts for some reason, and is backstabbing her. Probably got into an argument about hairstyles, and then we get into calling each other “bitch” and “whore” and then we get into revenge.
Captain Bitter Whiner Husein Kangaroo @ 15:
Man! You beat me to it.
Has anyone asked her why she won’t help?
Jay Hanson who once ran for office in Hawaii had some interesting observations about the political process.
He ran against a republican with a dirty smear campaign and Jay lost. His opponent served a few months and then got arrested and convicted of child molestation.
But Jay’s observation is that we are social animals, and we like to get along with other people. Especially if they are nice and friendly. It’s hard to go against the tide, day in and day out and after a while, you find yourself giving in on little things, Later you find that the little things add up to big things. Eventually this leads to a place where you discover that you’ve betrayed your ideals, and you don’t even know when or where it really happened.
The lobbyists live in Washington. They make friends with politicians. They eat dinner with them. Take them to movies. Hang out and have a few beers in bars and at private parties.
We are a voice from out there. We work for a living and don’t have time to schedule dates to lavish our politicians with. They see us through the lens of letters, emails, and protesters carrying signs.
We are distant strangers. Lobbyists are friends that are there to help out, lend a hand and practice a bit of you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours.
The permissive lobbying laws and the fact that Washington has a culture that alienates our representatives from us, is a huge problem. And I do not believe it will be fixed. Few people would take a pay cut, and vote to cut all of their friends’ pay, on this issue. Everyone can use a little more money can’t they? And how do you ask people you care about, to take a pay cut, because you think they are losing their souls, or you’re losing yours. How many people would even notice with an atmosphere of constant social reinforcement?
Short answer: sugar money, Cuba, sugar money, Israel, sugar money,
Another corrupt DLC crony who acts like a progressive just enough to muddy the waters, her real goal is to create a little pro-corporate fiefdom like Rahm Emanuel.
beverins @ 17:
You forgot sleeping with her husband during school years, hell maybe it was last week.
To answer the question, by lending fulsome support to Ros-Lehtinen’s opponent, Wasserman would run afoul of two very powerful special interest groups whose support is critical to her own political survival as a Congress member from Florida; namely, the pro-Israel and anti-Cuban lobbies.
Wasserman said in her interview on Shult’s show, “A year ago yesterday the people in America voted to put the Democrats in the majority in Congress so that we could move the country in a new direction. And they asked to focus on withdrawing our troops from Iraq, on expanding health-care access, on making sure that we can refocus our efforts in terms of alternative energy and putting resources into that. You know, they did not ask us to spend any time on the impeachment of the Vice President.”
I say bunk to this. The Dems were sent to congress to stop the war and jail the criminals.
Of course, their wait and wait and wait has panned out for them, they won’t have to extend the anger on the hill with another impeachment; even though it was achieved by breaking their oaths of office to see that the laws are followed and the Constitution is protected. When the PEOPLE DEMAND IMPEACHMENT THE HOUSE MUST IMPEACH WHETHER OR NOT THE SPEAKER WANTS. IT IS OUT OF HER HANDS. At least if you were following the Constitution, that law would apply.
The Democrats under this leadership have managed to join the lawbreaking Republicans to go down in history as the worst congress ever. The worst court ever, the worst presidency ever.
It is time for it to stop and it is time these turkeys started listening to the people. We need to get rid of K Street. Corporations ARE NOT PERSONS.

What about the slapping and hair pulling catfight?
Bill @ 8:
Sadly, probably EXACTLY correct.
She is already a budding Lieberman.
It will make since when Hillary calls for a vote to nominate herself as President at the Democratic Convention.
Charlie @ 7:
Exactly… she seems to forget how she got elected… I’m thinking there were people helping her and voting for her, no? Her behavior and lack of action bring Lie-berman to mind… she’s not related, is she??
Does ANYTHING surprise us in this Piece of Sht Do-Nothing Congress?
Maybe term limits were a good idea after all?
here’s something to look into. sugar. oooooooo, honey honey.
debbie wasserface schultz seems to have a little sugar addiction problem… or, should i say, an addiction to campaign donations from Big Sugar.
American Crystal Sugar
American Sugar Cane League
Florida Sugar Cane League
Southern Minn Beet Sugar Co-Op
US Sugar Corp
once again, we have a DLC/neoliberal/corporatist politician lining their pockets and doing the bidding of industry.
and the dems wonder why so many people are fed up with them. go figure, eh?
Captain Bitter Whiner Husein Kangaroo @ 15:
Exactly my first thought too…
DWS is a Hillary lover. Look for her to be on the podium in Denver recruiting votes for Hillary. She is a disgrace to the party.
Here y’all’z go.

Yellowbird @ 23:
no doubt.
corporations are not persons.
that is, except for in the eyes of the law.
it is time to overturn santa clara county v. southern pacific railroad–post haste
until this case is overturned corporations will have the exact rights and protections as individuals, yet wield far, far, far, far more power and influence. not to mention THEY AREN’T PEOPLE!!!!!! (the opposite of soylent green)
I just saw a clip of McCain speaking in, I think it was Ohio, he said, I will veto every pork barrel bill coming across my desk and you will know their names.
Yes, we want the names of all those little rascals that hop up there on your desk.
As for DWS, comment 22 is probably very close if not spot on to being right.
here’s why she wont go up against Ileana Ros-Lehtinen : because Miami is still a small town and the heavily latin influenced media here would DESTROY her !!! As soon as word got out that Miami’s CUBAN representative was being opposed by a DEMOCRAT, they would be all over her with their usual lies and smears because Miami is run by CUBANS who, thanks to their Bay of Pigs mentality, will never, ever vote for a Democrat.
When these people impeach Obama in 2011 to pave the way for Hillary in 4 years (judging by these anthics, they’ll stop at nothing), then I will officially change the party affiliation. For now I’m a Dem and I’m ashamed of it.
KT @ 35:
Miami is a small town?
Dahoum @ 22:
She’s already sold her soul then. Time to remove her from office, folks.
Debbie has big ambitions to be gov or senator here in Florida. And IRL has been a kindred girlfriend to Debbie since joined ranks on some penny-ante kid’s program Schultz cares about. White aristocratic Cuban exile families yearning to resubjugate black Cubas 90 miles away what IRL is all about. Florida is so gerrymandered that most every district is safe for incumbents: Debbie’s never faced a challenger after being handed her boss’ Jewish district only two-years after moving to S. Florida — now there’s a meritocracy! The result is the most embarrassing Congressional delegation of any larger state this side of Texas. Wexler’s the only one decent, and he’s been a joke since Colbert nailed him.
Here in Mica’s 7th district, with the largest voting age population in the nation, the 8-term incumbent seldom gets more than token opposition, despite nobody knowing or liking him. Mica is utterly contemptuous of voters, so his aid hide him away after his frequent on-cameras rants. Even Republicans can’t stand him. And the district has become almost purple (+3 Republican and falling). Despite Dean’s great efforts, the national party refuses to help anyone who isn’t already well-healed and at least even in the polls; then they turn around and support Democrats-in-name-only types in the South who will always block progressive legislation! Anyone want a great chance to be in Congress, please move here to the lucky 7th. I’ll even manage your campaign til you can get started for 2010 (in 2006, I got a a novice who refused to raise money 37%. Think what a real candidate could do?
The good news is this could be great year for Dems in Florida because of Puerto Rican migration (all Democrat), shifting allegiance of middle aged and younger Cubans, and total dominance of the state legislature by incompetent GOP ideologues that has ruined the economy (population has actually nearly leveled off and the three huge south Florida counties are losing population), and property value collapse and foreclosures everywhere. With Florida turning into a basket case economically, throw the bums out is finally in the air. It smells sweet!
pissed off patricia @ 18:
Markos at DailyKos has been all over her for months. Never have read a decent answer yet.
Dahoum @ 22:
don’t forget the sugar (lobby)
Debbie Wishy-Washy Shultz is a careerist. That is all you need to know. She is under Pelosi’s skirts so she knows there will be no consequences for betrayal, if you can call going easy on repubs a betrayal of our non-partisan dems. And she raises a lot of money!
Abbybwood @ 13:
Thank you for writing this. I kept thinking, “Is this the same person?” I thought maybe I was mixing her up with someone else. She sure blows hot and cold. And, in this instance, what a primadonna. Where’s her sense? Shouldn’t she be working for her party?
Debbie would do well to remember that incumbent Al Wynn of Maryland got beat by Donna Edwards in the primary earlier this year. I don’t think the people will have much patience with pandering DINO’s anymore who try to be everything to everyone. She’d better get with the program.
