Peggy Noonan and Mike Murphy's off air attack of Palin for VP pick. Who's telling the truth?
By John Amato Tuesday Sep 02, 2008 4:20pm
This clip is spreading very fast. Wow, listen to this off air exchange between two Conservative pundits and Chuck Todd who happily joined in. Tell us how you really feel about McCain and Palin. Murphy is very close to McCain and Noonan is Noonan. (rough transcript. Please fill it in below)
Murphy: You know, because I come out of the blue swing state governor work. Engler, Whitman, Thompson, Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush. And these guys, this is all like how you want to (inaudible) this race. You know, just run it up. And it's not gonna work.
Noonan: It's over.
Murphy: Still, McCain can give a version of the Lieberman speech to do himself some good.
CT: Don't you think the Palin pick was insulting to Kay Bailey Hutchinson, too (inaudible)
Noonan: I saw Kay this morning.
Murphy: They're all bummed out. I mean, is she really the most qualified woman they could have turned to?
Todd: Yeah, I mean is she really the most qualified woman they could have turned to?
Noonan: The most qualified? No. I think they went for this, excuse me, political bullshit about narratives and (inaudible) the picture.
Yeah, but what's the narrative?
Noonan: Every time the Republicans do that because that's not where they live and it's not what they're good at and they blow it.
Murphy: You know what's really the worst thing about it? The greatness of McCain is no cynicism and this is cynical.
And as you call it gimmicky.
Will the media start asking conservative scribes if they really feel like Murphy and Noonan do about McCain's pick of Palin? Honesty is out in front right now as we just witnessed. Are they all just lying to our faces and not being called out about it by our talking heads sitting right next to them? We just witnessed the real deal and not the dog and pony show Republicans are so good at.
Here's Noonan's column at the WSJ on Palin,
UPDATE: The LA Times has it posted now.

Truth will out. This is the beginning of the end.
MSNBC is rocking the boat so to say right now as far as protesters go too. Appreciate the access and freedom of speech.
I am starting to get scared. There are just enough morons in this country to elect McCain/Who in November.
Enough said.
OBee/JoeBee
rofl! Awesome!
So we have to wait for bloopers to find out the truth. Noonan and Murphy suck for sure but Chuck Todd sucks more for letting them get by with the bullshit. Journalism has left the building!
that. is. incredible.
It really can't get better than this. I love the internets!
ROTFLMAO
I can't stand Noonan, but this is too funny ... pass some more popcorn!
FINALLY!
The truth comes out when the cameras AREN'T rolling.
I hope this gets spread and played everywhere.
The Republicans are the most inept, greedy and stupid organization on the face of the earth.
The pundits know what is going on, but apparently McCain and his advisors are clueless.
well, obviously these hacks aren't chrisianistas or they would get it... and LOVE it!
be sure to check this out too:

I think that is the boulder that broke the camels back.
Made my day.
Of course they're lying. They've been lying about this election season since it started. Nobody should've believed for a second that those bastards were against McSame. The Noonans and Limbaughs of the world knew that they had to distance him from them to make him seem mavericky. Now that that's safely part of the narrative, they're pimping him and the gop platform as hard as they can, whether they believe in the people running or not.
and i keep hearing stories that the mcLAME camp has told the media to quit asking questions and checking into palin...
huh???
This whole thing is a god damn dog and pony show. Why is the truth so controversial that it needs to be said off camera. Journalism has indeed left the building. Thanks for the protesters out there and the bloggers trying to get the truth out. Thanks John.
Two things Republicans should never leave:
1) the microphone on
2) the stall door open
Hard to trust those pundits when the truth they believe is only revealed by an accidental open mic.
I'm starting to think that maybe McCain / Bush / GOP are really not telling the truth, either.
This could really shake my world.
Pat Buchanon had some less-than-stellar things to say about Palin, but that was before she was picked. Even Scarboro was laughing about a Palin pick.
Buchanon was being honest before, and now acts as though this is the best thing going. What a bunch of shallow idiots.
Haha...Adam Putnam just got thrashed on Hardball....funny and I'm soon a clip will pop up soon.....that dude is a complete TOOL.
GOP Vetting Emporium and taco stand.
Come for the vetting, stay for the tacos.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-AiqGC0buo
The sad thing is that despite all of this, the Republicans will probably still steal the election (...let's not forget 200o, 2004).
I hope I'm wrong, but...
when will the "GIRLS GONE NAUGHTY' tape
come out on palin?
are there any "now you see it-now you don't"
getting out of the car shots of palin?
When will this madness end. MSM is bought and paid for by the Repugs. You would think Palin could walk on water now. All of the scandals that keep dripping from Palin, MSM turns a blind eye. Serenity Now!
This is the biggest story of the day--bar none.
Kindler, Gentler nation my ass. It's time to cowboy up and bury the Republicans.
My, my. What soiled panties the Nooner wears. Heavens.
John McCain will probably cancel all his interviews with MSNBC forever. He'll also hold his breath until they apologize.
Let the Truth be Told. Our Nation and Our Constitution is at stake.
Al Hidalgo @ 21:
We all hope you're wrong.
I've been trying to remember who Sarah Palin reminds me of and finally remembered this mom....(I hope this works - don't really know how to do the link)
A little off topic, but the current (September 4) issue of Rolling Stone has a cover article by Sean Wilentz entitled "How Bush Destroyed the Republican Party."
Both these folks are repub or at least they always appear to be right leaning. They both have worked for Republicans in the past. They are just expressing why they think their party is rolling down hill toward hell with the pick of Palin. I think it's funny as hell that they got caught telling it like it really is. I imagine there are a lot of republicans talking just like this behind closed doors. They know Palin is a serious gamble and it could sink their party for four to eight more years.
I think Murphy and Noonan know that Sarah Palin isn't the loser here. John McCain is fast becoming the loser and its being done by his own hand. His judgment is in question for picking Palin over more experienced politicians. Plus, the religious right already questions McCain's motives so they are backing Palin while pushing John McCain aside. John MCain can't let this go on much further. If he does he will be playing second fiddle to his own VP pick which is fast becoming the darling of the Republican Party.
i liked the "they're all bummed out" line. it's funny since all i hear from all the talking heads is how much everybody is "energized" by palin and think she practically the second coming. and peggy says they have no narrative.
PICKING ON PEGGY NOONAN IS SEXIST!
STOP IT RIGHT NOW!!!!!
Obama/Biden '08
It looks like it is all falling apart for the Republicans. Can they get any more pathetic ?
Jason Goad @ 19:
I saw our little Howdy Doody from Florida get his ass handed to him by Matthews. It was a thing of beauty. Putman acted the age he looks.
Talked with my Republican friend today who was apopletic about the treatment of Sarah Pawlenty Heat Palin. He said the press and the Dems were being sexist.
I asked him why he thought Palin was qualified to be VP. He said she was hot.
That's a true story my friends. :(
Jay Severin Has A Small Pen1s @ 37:
That's classic!
I think I have a pretty good and complete transcript at my dkos diary (also on their rec list):
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/9/3/161251/0979/872/584930
I expect the right wing spin machine to say this is evidence of the liberal bias since it was 'leaked' from MSNBC.
Either that or finally knuckle under and admit their fucked, which they wouldn't do even if there's a video of John McCain attacking an 9 month old pregnant woman, [Deleted. Over the top and way, WAY, WAY too graphic. Please don't go that far again. Thank you. Site Monitor].
While that graphic image sets in, I'll repeat that they right wing would figure out a way to justify what happened. Pitiful isn't it?
Olbermann better run with this, even if it is his own network
"AND IT KEEPS GETTING FUNNIER EVERY SINGLE TIME I SEE IT... NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT YOU'RE TALKING TO A DEAD GUY... NOW WHAT DO YOU THINK? You think I'm qualified? "
I think the propaganda catapult had a malfunction.
Poor Jack.
He gets sentenced on Thursday, just in time for McCain's big night...Delay's in the house!
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080903/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/abramoff_sentencin...
LOL you go Peggy! Her column today says the exact opposite thing but hey, the truth will set you free girl!
Glad that people on TV (at least MSNBC right now) are seeing that Palin is being treated like the Messiah.
Tonight, when Palin speaks, I want everyone to focus on her voice.
Everyone. On the voice.
I want you to think of sharp drill bits drilling into your ears, then your brain, gouging in a little deeper at every sound - until every word hurts you physically.
(I'm trying out my new hypnotic skills on the masses.)
Because the message doesn't matter - only the pain.
Matthews is taking a few repubs to task over Palin right now on Hardball....I guess after this Noonan/Murphy clip they have just stopped even trying to pretend that this woman is legit.
When one of you candidates better assets is that she can feild dress a moose, you gotta know you are in trouble.
Initially I was excited waiting for the response to this but then I realize they'll just make some boilerplate response about being off-mic not counting for some poorly explained reason, then they'll refuse to discuss it again, referring questioners to their initial response.
Wow! Great clip and I like that at the very beginning, the only political sign that can be seen on screen....
is for Ron Paul.
There was a band, called 'Steam.' They had 1 hit to my knowledge.
I shall be singing that song Nov. 4. Loudly and proudly.
I just love it when the tools shit and fall in it. It's like watching Bozo splash at the State Fair. Bozo sits in his perch spewing his insults and then someone hits the target and Bozo falls in it. Hahahahahahahaaaaa! High and dry! Need a ball player! Nyuk Nyuk Nyuk!
Noonan: "It's over.... The most qualified? No. I think they went for this —- excuse me —- political bullshit about narratives... every time Republicans do that... because that's not where they live, and it's not what they're good at, and they blow it."
Murphy: "The greatness of McCain is no cynicism, and this is cynical, and as you called it, gimmicky."
enor @ 44:
Reminds me of a still photo that I saw this morning of a woman at the convention. It was a white pretend hard hat and on the side it said, Drill Here! At first glance it appeared the wearer wanted her head drilled in that particular area.
who has executive experience the holy grail
*biden....no
*obama...no
*mccain...no
*palin...yes
It doesn't matter. Palin will go up there and say "Obama is the most liberal liberal in Hippieliberalistan" and everyone will stand up and applaud wildly.
Then they will go vote for whoever the hell has (R) beside their name.
Even the
liberalcorporate mediablowhardspundits know that Palin is unqualified. It does wonders for their credibility when they sing her praises on-camera and trash her when they think the mics are "off".Liberal media my ass. Lying conservative corporate cocksuckers.
ruffmama @ 46:
I just couldn't see Matthews getting a woody over any female candidate. It's clearly not his orientation.
This RNC is very interesting. Its definately not like the DNC that is for sure. During the DNC Obama stole the show and everyone else including Obama's VP Joe Biden made sure that happened. It was entirely a team effort.
The RNC on the other hand is turning into a contest between the Presidential candidate and his VP pick. the Republicans aren't hyping John McCain. They are hyping Sarah Palin. Maybe its just me, but shouldn't it be the other way around? I'm just saying.
Jay Severin Has A Small Pen1s @ 37:
I heard that Palin was vetted by these guys
Noonan and Murphy are obviously part of the liberal media sexist conspiracy.
pissed off patricia @ 53:
(funny, p.o.p.)
Those hats have been placed there by me as post hypnotic suggestions, there are thousands of them there.
Is it working? Did you feel the pain?
I liked the "Thanks Guys" at the end of the clip.
Yellow Elephant Safari @ 59:
Well, sure. It's an obvious attempt to appeal to schwing voters.
I wanted Dennis Kucinich or Ron Paul to be the next President. Now that's impossible.......so I've been fully supporting Obama, but now I realize he can't win either. This is a slam -dunk for McCain. Obama might just as well throw in the towel.....but he and his campaign folks are not gonna give up without a fight. They gotta keep kickin' and screamin' til the very end. Now it's obvious Obama doesn't have a chance. Why ?? Because McCain's running mate has an unmarried teenage daughter that's pregnant. Now every Christian person in the country will get behind her. Karl Rove is a genius !! He must have told Sarah Palin's daughter, Bristol , to have pre-marital sex without birth control and without being married. That Karl Rove is a fucking genius !! Now all the Pentocostals, and Fundamentalist Christians and Evangelical Christians will throw all their support behind Palin and McCain. I'll bet that while Bristol Palin and her scumbag hockey bully boyfriend were fucking and sucking - they were singing Church Hymns and chanting "PRAISE JESUS" during the sucking and fucking. Now it's a slam dunk for George Bush's 3rd term.
Furthermore ; we just won the Iraq war this week or we are about to any day now.....so signed, sealed, delivered....hook, line and sinker --Our next President is John McCain.
Oh, I almost forgot to say - Sarah Palin loves the wonderful sport of shooting innocent animals with real guns. She is SO PRO-LIFE (by the Christain definition) that there is no way she'll lose the election. Hey, Dick Cheney went hunting (the wonderful "sport" and he shot his acquaintance. If Karl Rove tells Sarah Palin to shoot her friend while hunting --then Karl Rove is really a true genius. If Palin shoots another human while hunting --she will appear to be so vice-presidential as well as Christian. God Bless everyone at C & L.
Obviously, credibility no longer matters. And if their corporate bosses were concerned about the credibility of their network, then these two asses would be fired already. The nexis is clear. Where in the hell is the Employee Relations department?
i agree joe, this convention should be about shooting john mccain out of a cannon, instead it's turned into a firing squad around palin. isn't one of the rules of a v.p. pick that they shouldn't overshadow the candidate?
the talking heads can spin it all they want, but every minute spent defending palin is one that isn't spent praising mccain.
MSNBC is really letting the protesters have their voice and camera time. I appreciate that.
HuffPo now has a pretty complete transcript.
LOL!
Hardball was exactly what I predicted. A young republican talking head would get into trouble calling the media out. I'm sorry, you think a punching match with the media gets you a win? Thats fucking nuts. Matthews of course took a few punches back.
Wasting your airtime looking hostile is not a winning track.
Oh man, it's been Christmas everyday since the VP pick.
This just in:
Teen mom support group: Jamie Lynn Spears sends gift to Bristol Palin
Should we be surprised? Only in that the audio was released to the public at all.
Whatever idealogical enslavement these people endure they really are not stupid. They know exactly why Palin was chosen and they are as frightened as we are that she might actually become president some day.
The desperation of McCain's pick should embolden progressives everywhere. The Republican internal polling (which is quite accurate) must really scare them.
Holy. Shit.
Republicans have gone from evil misers to handing out political gifts.
Murphy even if partisan is a moderate and Noonan smells moderate enough and you can tell that they do not agree with the Palin pick and are Off-Air admitly speaking their minds
many moderate Republicans are also unhappy with the Palin pick, she is just there for to appease to Religious-Fringe
Ron Paul should create a new party to separate the religious whackos out of the Right
sarah palin second in command little vetting....if mccain
goes down palin is in could happen as early as 01/30/09
again i'm hearing NO executive experience in obama's
career........DOES mccain have executive experience?
You mean Noonan and Murphy are Republican rightwing bullshit artists???? Who say one thing and mean another???? Who are dishonest panderers?????
I'm shocked, I tell ya, shocked!
So this is what it must have felt like for Republicans in 2004. One fuckup after another from the opposition. I was diagnosed with TMJ that fall after all the tension, but this time I'm carefree and LOVING it.
By the way, Chuck Todd is a poor journalist, but that's because that's not really what his strength is. He's a numbers guy, and he's a corporate hack. I lost all faith in him when it was clear HE knew and WE knew that Barack had the numbers over Hillary, but he played the ratings game all the same. Stick to numbers, Todd, that's all you're good at.
Note how seamlessly and casually the three of them drift into this frank talk after they think the mics are off. How common must this be in journalism, where immediately after the "journalist" yaks with his guests/sources about how, in fact, what they just broadcast couldn't be further from the truth??
"Thanks guys" indeed! "See you next week!"
ask palin anything..........sexism
What's wrong with the stats? No longer counting views. It's been at 215 for over an hour!

Ehh, both Mccain and Obama suck. Like either of them will fix anything. We have had the same problems for 40 years and guess what, neither republican nor democrat has been able to do jack.
These lying sacks of shit go on about "change" There will be no change. They are in control of a system that put them in control and allows them to lead lavish lifestyles. Why should they change anything?
Hey Mike and Peggy--don't worry about your poster child Palin--figure out how to convince America its Republicans who we really need to shovel us out from under this avalanche of Republican garbage that's been heaped on us for 30 years.
The problem is no matter what Palin says or does the Right Wingers are still going to fall all over her. She can take the biggest dump tonight and they will say it smells like roses,
On camera, they spout the party talking points.
Off camera, they tell the truth.
Loobricated Goat Says...
Please, go rain on someone else parade.

Lookie...more vids not being viewed... http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Noonan+and+Murphy+&search_ty...
Some very interesting comment on all those unviewed clips. *wink
Wouldn't want it to go viral and pop up on the most viewed charts...typical GOP.
They are saying the same thing everyone has thought since last Friday. The Repubs. are now seen for what they are, cult-like followers who mimic what their leaders tell them. Just like what's drilled into all adulterers, their mantra is "Deny, Deny, Deny", knowing that they are lying through their teeth. Their patriotism is limited to their cult leaders, in this case, McCain who solidified that devotion by naming Ms. Palin to the VP slot. This issue is not over by any means. Republicans would sell their daughters if they they could it would win the election. America's threat is not from terrorists who strike only sporadically and with limited damage, the greater threat is our threat within. Republicans have shown that they are willing to sacrifice the constitution and their rights, as well as sell out the integrity of elections, if that keeps them in power. They have shown that they will give up our nation's secrets and agents for political gain i.e. Valerie Plame. They play by different rules then true patriots do. They are willing to collaborate with our enemies to profit in their backstage dealings i.e. Halliburton. They are willing to wage senseless wars to maximize corporate profits. This is not something new, Prescott Bush did the same thing in WWII. And these are not isolated incidences but party strategy. Just as Fahrenheit 911 showed, these people view the world globally and do not let patriotism and loyalty handicap their efforts to make the almighty dollar. Being a history major in college, I regret to say we are getting close to that point in the French Revolution when enough was enough. Off with their heads!
The truth is out.
I'm sure there are plenty of "true conservatives" (which we won't hear from) --not the crazed base-- that find the Palin pick irresponsible and in poor judgement; a politcal sideshow. Let's hope they raise their objections, silently, at the ballot box (on Diebold). Palin is not ready to be president, and hence not ready for vice president!!!
We all know that.
Fil @ 74:
And that would work, how? Ron Paul holds the same views as Palin on abortion, evolution and a whole bunch of religious-fringe issues.
In his speech, Fred Thompson said Palin is the governor of the largest state in the union. Seriously. He's talking area. That's where we are now in terms of intelligent debate. There are many cities and counties in this country with much larger populations than Alaska. Even a few townships, I dare say.
Acting Patriotic @ 80:
Youtube doesn't up the view stats in anything near real-time.
Awesome. You knew the country club set couldn't be happy.
