Colbert slams Lieberman's "bipartisan" duplicity
By SilentPatriot Wednesday Sep 03, 2008 9:00am
Stephen Colbert juxtaposes Joe Lieberman from Tuesday night with Joe Lieberman from 2006 and reveals what a true spineless snake he really is. As a bonus, Colbert exposes McCain for the maverick he isn't.

Lieberman: What, after all, is a Democrat like me doing at a Republican convention like this?
Colbert: Oh, oh, oh, I know...spitting in the face of everyone who voted for you?

Traitor to party and country!
Forgotten war?
A reader points out — and a search of the speech texts on the GOP convention site seems to confirm — a surprising fact: There hasn't been a single mention of Afghanistan at this convention.
Did that really happen? Did they accidentally play that speech?
Lieberman: What, after all, is a Democrat like me doing at a Republican convention like this?
Colbert: Oh, oh, oh, I know…spitting in the face of everyone who voted for you?
First, Lieberman's not a Democrat. The Connecticut Democratic primary voters through him out of the party. LIEberman is just saying this to try to contintue to try to undermine the Democrats from within but it doesn't work that well anymore since he's not one of us. He's using his caucusing with Democrats to say he's a Democrat but after 2008 he won't be able to say that anymore once his sorry ass gets kicked to the curb he can caucus with the Republicans no longer able to attempt to undermine the Democrats from within he'll then be just another partisan hack job of the GOP.
Second, LIEberman is not spitting the face of everyone who voted for him. 75% of Republicans voted for him and he's doing their bidding.
Colbert is a legend.
But even he won't point out Liebermans first loyalty...
pissed off patricia @ 3:
LOL! Surely they aren't THAT stupid! Well....maybe..
I can't friggin WAIT to see tonights Daily Show and Colbert Report!
pissed off patricia @ 3:
....................
Patricia, I've seen your messages for a long time now. You are joking, of course, when you asked that question.
Thanks CT
hate to say this but does Obama feel pretty stupid now that Lieberman turned his back on him? If only Ned Lamont had won in 06....
Don Rumsfeld hater @ 8:
Well...don't leave us hangin!
I watched to Colbert Report, but not the RNC...and I was kinda buzzed, as I had been out celebrating someones b-day. So I kinda wasn't really paying close attention.
Leave it to Colbert and Stewart to do the work the
liberalcorporate media is supposed to be doing ...idleuser @ 10:
I wouldn't say he feels stupid about it...pissed off more likely.
Lieberman's entire career as a politician has been a false-flag operation. In many places like Connecticut where the Republicans never had a chance of electing an R Repuke, they simply backed a stealth D Repuke through the magic of corporate campaign financing. LIE-berman is just the most obvious, the tip of the iceberg. If this sounds paranoid to you, check the voting records of the House and Senate.
A song for Sen. LIEberman:
He's a real nowhere man,
Sitting in his nowhere land,
Making all his nowhere plans
For nobody.
Doesn't have a point of view,
Knows not where he's going to,
Isn't he a bit like you and me?
Nowhere man, please listen,
You don't know what you're missing,
Nowhere man, the world is at your command.
He's as blind as he can be,
Just sees what he wants to see,
Nowhere man can you see me at all?
Doesn't have a point of view,
Knows not where he's going to,
Isn't he a bit like you and me?
Nowhere man, don't worry,
Take your time, don't hurry,
Leave it all till somebody else
Lend you a hand.
He's a real nowhere man,
Sitting in his nowhere land,
Making all his nowhere plans
For nobody.
Except we're voting for Obama/Biden!
Lieberman is in a no lose situation.
If the GOP wins, he becomes a Republican.
If the GOP loses, he joins the Likud.
Oh Stephen, how I love thee!
Sure Lieberman is at the RNC convention, but how about all the Republicans
who decided not to come to the party? Could it be that some are ashamed?
Could it be that a few are liabilites?
President Bush
Larry Craig
Liddy Dole
Dick Cheney
Arnold Schwarzenegger
Susan Collins
Ted Stevens
Pat Roberts
Chuck Hagel
Wayne Allard
Gordon Smith
John Sununu
Anyone have more names?
I'd gladly make a donation to have a tree planted in Joe Lieberman's anus.
Don Rumsfeld hater @ 8:
Well stranger things have happened at this convention. For example, a hockey mom who can shoot, kill and field dress a moose, may be the next vice president of the United States.
I sure as heck didn't vote for him, I had a Lamont sign on my lawn.
Too bad McCain wasn't allowed to pick LIEberman. Then we'd have two deadpan, whiny old men complaining "that's not change you can believe in". Can't you just hear it?
They really hyped this up as McCain's good buddy and it again showed McCain superior judge of character in who he picks as advisors.
The best part was the end when he received a sitting novation from the sheep who spend the whole night on auto-applause.
Joe LIEberman deserves a spot as tail gunner in John McCain's Straight Flight Express plane to Siberia.
I also wanted to mention that I was so upset watching Foghorn Leghorn (Thompson), Droopy Dog (Lieberman), Giu911iani, and Peggy Hill (Palin), that I had to donate $25 to Obama.
That might not been the base they wanted to fire up, but it got me mad enough to send money!
When are the Dems going to punish Lieberman? Aren't there a couple of committees they can kick him out of?
It's pretty sad that in 2000 both McCain and Lieberman were sensible moderates. McCain, obviously, slightly right and Lieb slightly to the left.
Now, in 2008, they've both sold out to the far-right.
It's sad.
It'll be interesting tonight to see how many show up for McCain's speech. Tonight is the opening night of football season. Let's see, McCain speech or a football game? Not even close.
ChrisM70@18 has a point. They had to invite LIEberman. They ran out of reslugs not under investigation or caught in a personal scandal to invite.
Didn't help the attendance at all though. Most of that place was empty. They did their best not to show the empty seats but you could still see the vast sections completely devoid of life.
And some of those delegates looked like they needed a double espresso shot or a wake up call or something. But then given the hour it was probably past most of their bed times.
Lieberman -- Goldschlag or Quisling? You decide.
Looking forward to Stewart and Colbert tonight. Our only dose of reality?
And what the hell happened to Mika Brezinski? She is the low-information woman McCain thought we all were.
pissed off patricia @ 20:
I want to see a video of her actually gutting and dressing a moose by herself!
pissed off patricia @ 28:
Or Obama on the O'Reilly Show.
Decisions, decisions....
pissed off patricia @ 28:
I'm betting on the game. Go Giants!
pissed@28, Are you kidding me? I'm not a sports fan. Who arranged this? Stupid! I also want to know the numbers of viewers of Palins speech.
surfjac @ 31:
Ugh, I'll pass on watching that, thanks. Sure it's the kind of experience we need in a vice president but I'll take Fred Thompson's word on her abilities. If she goes bird hunting with a lawyer maybe it'll come in handy, I don't know.
Breaking: Kwame Kilpatrick pleads guity. Leaves office.
surfjac @ 33:
Wow, Sen. Obama on BillO? Who'da thunk it?
idleuser @ 10:
Why should Obama feel responsible for Lieberman being a lying traitorous whore? Like many other Democrats that year, Obama simply supported the incumbent in the primary and the winner of the primary(Lamont) in the general. This is all on Lieberman....end of story.
Seriously people I think we need to turn off and tune out of the entertainment. Go knock on the doors of the Dems and say . . .
Where the hell are you guys? I thought you told us you knew what you are doing!"
Prairie Sunshine @ 32:
I'll wait for the highlight reel from C&L.
I hope Obama got something good out of this deal. I can't believe he agreed to go near borly the magic douche bag.
P.D. @ 34:
I guess the campaign arranged it, I dunno. But I would like to thank whoever did because I am ready for some football. Football season means Fall is coming, which means hurricane season will be winding down, which means a few months around these parts of no anxiety.
This is huge: Check it out - Republican women deserting Palin. Now our media needs to take a hold of this stat - figures that it would be the european media to bring us the truth.
It also alludes to sexual scandals surrounding Palin. See it for yourself -

Just another reason to keep McSame out of the White House. To prevent Lieberman from getting a high level cabinet position in a McSame administration after the Democrats kick his ass to the curb.
surfjac @ 37:
All the repubs will be watching the convention or football so few will even see it.
sophya @ 42:
Murdoch is going to help defeat the Armageddon Party??
I suppose we need all the help we can get at this point.
pissed off patricia @ 41:
I concur wholeheartedly. The people are "Palin'd out" and need a diversion from the smear tactics and lies of her ticket. Besides, the responsible media may destroy her before our very eyes - with more corruption and abuses of power with each news cycle.
I'm sick of the attacks by an unqualified airhead puppet princess posing to have anything in common with most american women other than a veejayjay.
sophya @ 42:
Thinking woman as well as thinking men are insulted. I'm not surprised.
L.A. Confidential @ 45:
Let's keep this "news flash" for Sarah Palin alive all morning by tagging it in all of our comments.
Ruthless People @ 43:
I bet if McCain won the race, he would make Lieberman Secy of Defense. We would be bombing Iran the first week he was in office.
sophya @ 48:
Sarah's "news flash" above. Check it out.
surfjac @ 37:
Mistake.
Since every Progressive who reads this blog is intelligent, unlike the trolls who may be lurking nearby, I am sure everyone caught the same thing I noted about the Repuklican attack dogs, namely they are all losers! Lying Libermann, Thompson, Huckleberry, 'a noun, a verb, and 911', Roaming Romney. We can include in this sorry bunch some of the people on the floor of the convention like the family values man himself Newton Gingrich. All losers. Add Palin and McInsane along with Bush and Cheney, and Rove to that list. Obviously, this is not the best the United States can come up with. What a spectacle! At the recently concluded Olympics our athletes brought great honor to our country. For them to be followed by the this sorry display of smear politics minus any policy is as shameful as it can get.
Lieberman ran as an Independent not a Democrat. I don't agree w/his positions but I would like to see more crossing over party lines by guys like Lieberman and Hagel -- this is the best of what Obama stands for in my view is letting go of party ties. This web site while proclaiming Crooks and Liars as its title seems to only want to apply that label based on ideology which is unfortunate.
Re-election is off the table.
Liberal AND Proud @ 51:
BIG mistake. Nothing good for us can come of it.
Liberal AND Proud @ 51:
Mmm...I don't think so...I think Obama will mop the floor with BOR.
It will be a friggin HOOT!
Will Sarah Palin and her whole family move to Washington when she takes up her duties? What will her husband do there? Who will take care of her "special needs" baby while the mother is learning how to become commander-in-chief of the armed forces and guardian of a nuclear arsenal plus presiding over the senate?
sophya @ 48:
Heavy eyeliner, a beehive hairdo, and a paper-thin resume may work on the pageant circuit but it's not working with middle class american women! McSame's little "political stunt" is backfiring in his face. I've been checking women's rights websites all morning and it's "more bad news for Palin" everywhere I check.
The AU press piece above is pretty damaging - showing that Republican women are ditching this loser.
roger @ 53:
Did you jusy gloss over a few facts? Like Lieberman ran as a Democrat until he lost the primary and then got elected by Republican voters?
I can't swear to your ideology but so far the second half of this web page's title seems to apply to you.
As the Enquirer so aptly put it: "Bring it on". Let's do the job which Grandpappy McSenile SHOULD HAVE DONE; that is, if he cares at all for the national security of this country, as he so fraudulently professes.
pissed off patricia @ 28:
The NFL is the king of America .....
well, maybe vice-King... Colbert is the KING !
sophya @ 58:
She basically attracts "corn-pone Nazis" who are the worst outcome of our over-stressed society.
theWalrus @ 55:
100% of BillO's dwindiling audience will NOT vote for Obama.
What's he got to lose ?
theWalrus @ 55:
Why do you people fear that stack of shit? Trust me, Billy is scared of Obama. Stop perpetuating the myths that these punks should be feared...we must face these clowns.
Is KKKarl Rove floating this rumor (whisper campaign) that Gov Palin had a sexula affair as his plan to smear the 'liberal media' and Dems for attacking an innocent victim??
http://wordpress.com/tag/sarah-palin-sex-affair/
roger @ 53:
Nice try. A Center Party?
From what I've witnessed over the last 8 years, the Republican Party has morphed into a sort of New American Nazi Party and is only bound to get worse if given the chance. It's hallmarks have become hyper-active patriotism, overbearing moralism and overzealous religiosity. That combination can only lead to despotism. Of course, nobody is infallable and the Dems have their share of party corruption but the Democratic Platform is still rooted in those silly values of "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." There is no center in that fight.
C. Hussein Jr. @ 63:
It's another setup. Just like the church fiasco.
These people are dishonest.
If only Ned Lamont had won in 06….
If only Gore and Kerry would have fought for themselves and counted ALL the votes...
If only that Viet Nam man hadn't been there to pull mcshame out of the lake....
the worst critics of women are OTHER WOMEN.
she's dead meat.
Left&Left @ 64:
That's what I'm sayin!
colbert and his writers are masters of staring down the truth. Thanks
If folks have never heard Colbert roast Bush and the press. It is so incredible
watch the whole thing
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-869183917758574879
This makes sense:
Karl Rove's Koolaide "Twilight Zone" reality says "up is down", "right is wrong", "black is white", and "war is peace". Why not have a two-face idiot address their redneck convention and lie? Who's to challenge their reality?
Liberal AND Proud @ 67:
I agree with that, but Obama came has 'recovered' from the hit he took for that.
If Ovbama triggers BillO to go off the deep end(not a difficult task), it can work to his advantage.
jake3988 @ 27:
McCain was portrayed as a moderate. McCain has never actually been a moderate.
Question: Is the 'took two airline flights after her water broke' story absolutely true? Or, more exactly, with all the coverup allegations floating around, is this story absolute-truly being represented as the truth by her camp?
If (big-if) so, wouldn't it be by far the most damaging nonpartisan anecdote there is to use against her? An over-forty woman doing something that would be labelled irresponsible if a fifteen-year-old did it? I mentioned that to some winger friends last night and you coulda heard a pin drop, they were so uncomfortable turning it over in their minds.
Left&Left @ 64:
Fox and O'Reilly are master propagandists and will further twist and distort anything Obama says. It's a setup, for sure and I hate to see Obama lend even a miniscule bit of credibility to a loathesome, bullying creep like O'Reilly.
Left&Left @ 38:
And Obama also confronted Liebermann.
Kathleen @ 71:
Colbert was pretty craz to pull that off but the problem still remains. We still haven't quite stood up thrown ourselves "onto the wheels of the machine".
Great link article in the Aussie paper. I've added it to my homeblog.
Tom Friedman's goin' around [I heard him on Imus] talking about how we need Nation Building at Home. Looks like we need Journalism Building at Home, too. These days it's all outsourced to the comics like Stewart and Colbert...or overseas.
CMINCA @ 74:
LIEberman has always been a spy for Israel and the Republican neocons...Can't understand why he isn't in prison? He fooled us really good in 2000.
theWalrus @ 76:
Well yeah Fox and O'Really are indeed that...but they're preaching to their own choir...anyone that's not a regular faux news viewer will not be fooled by their machinations.
C. Hussein Jr. @ 73:
FUCK IT!!! We'll do it LIVE!!!
Damn LIEberman has to be one of the worst speakers I have ever heard. His voice and lack of energy always put me to sleep.
John the Elder @ 52:
These are the type of people that the corporation media allow us.
You can betcherass that if Bankok Bob or PoP or you or I ran for office that the ProfitMedia would dig up certain "facts" aka non-issues -and that would be the end of it.
The corporation media will support whoever supports the corporation media.
liberalNmoderation @ 56:
O'Reilly will bait and bait and bait, but Obama is intelligent, eloquent and a very cool customer when it comes to these kinds of interviews. He'll be fine. My God! If he can't handle Bill O'Reilly . . .
CMINCA @ 85:
Exactly!
Oh he'll handle O'liely juuuuuust fine.
fourmorewars @ 75:
NO! You will not question the little lady's personal judgement. Be ashamed.
/snark
L.A. Confidential @ 62:
I hope to God you're right, sonya.
SONOFABITCH this country pissses me off so much! It's the 21st Century...women, minorities on tickets...freakin' NON EVENT. People need to wisen up and start voting their self interest!! That's what the RICH do.
