Republicans have no Heart, confirmed:
Ann and Nancy Wilson are pissed at the Republican Party and have fired off a cease and desist letter to the McCain/Palin campaign.
Specifically, the Heart women are upset that the GOP has used their classic "Barracuda" as a theme song for Sarah Palin. TMZ obtained a statement from Heart's rep, who says "The Republican campaign did not ask for permission to use the song, nor would they have been granted that permission."[..]
UPDATE: Twenty minutes after we posted this story, the GOP ended the evening after McCain's speech with the song, "Barracuda."
Gotta love these "Rule of Law" Republicans. And not the first time for McCain either. He has been sued by Jackson Browne for using his song, served with a Cease and Desist for using a Frankie Valli song, used footage of the Wayne and Garth characters from Wayne's World without permission, and used the Theme from Rocky without permission. You know, the first time you make this mistake, I can write it off as a honest error. But over and over and over, especially using songs from known Democrats like the Wilson sisters and Jackson Browne. That just goes over the abyss into complete arrogance.

You act surprised. As long as the gains are better than the consequences, they will break the law. So in this instance, creating the impression that they're tough is worth much more than the $250k or so they'd have to pay if Heart actually went through with their suit (which they won't). Preventing democratic GOTV efforts in a swing-state by jamming their phone lines is worth more than a few months of jail time for a mid-level operative. Even engaging in election fraud is worth it as long as it gets they don't reverse the results (which no court would do).

Aren't they the ones that go after these copyright infringers, hammer and tongs? The guy keeps doing it. His handlers KNOW there's a permission process.
They're doing what a landscape mentor of mine once told me: "Sometimes it is easier to apologise than to ask permission." Of course the caveat is that if the action goes wrong, you don't try to sneak something past the customer again and again, then say oops sorry again. (If you're good though, it doesn't go wrong).
These people are un fucking believable.
I think a better choice of songs for Palin would have been the theme song to the movie Jaws. Palin may have been a barracuda on a high school basketball court but she is in the shark's tank now. It is only a matter of time before the sharks realize that a minnow is in the tank with them and when they do they will start circling for the kill.

Just a note on republican openness to ideas other than their own - Last night when I left work I was told my work was "beautiful". Today after parking my car in a spot visible to the business owners with my Obama bumper sticker shining brightly and my Impeach Cheney baseball cap under the back window - at noon I was let go. Add that to the fact that yesterday I told the military family owners that although I respected their service I didn't think that war was a solution to international conflicts. Halls and Oates sued the republican for using their song in the last convention! At this point they don't friggin care about breaking the law. My first thought was that I was dismay that the Wilson sister supported John McCain by allowing to use their song at the end of the convention. This news restored my faith in them, and they are rightly to be piss about this. Now not only were they rip off for usage rights, but also seemingly force to declare their belief which should have been a personal matter. Everyone now knows that the Wilson sister are not republican.
They just got a notice from Jackson Browne and just to keep doing it after making one mistake to make another, really exemplify that this is how they will be in if they get into the executive bra
