Roubini: The world is at severe risk of global systemic financial meltdown and severe global depression

David Swanson of AfterDowningStreet illustrates a typical example of how the news cycle works now that the blogosphere interacts (or doesn't) with independent and corporate media.  July 1, 2007, AfterDowningStreet breaks story of NSA Whistleblower Adrienne Kinne. May 13, 2008, Democracy Now picks up the story of Kinne. May 19, 2008, After Downing Street breaks story of new NSA Whistleblower, David Murfee Faulk.  October 9, 2008, ABC News picks up both stories with a focus on phone sex. October 10, 2008, Congress notices, yawns, scratches its ass, goes back to what it had been doing. Talk shows make jokes about the phone sex.

It is about time someone called this financial crisis what it actually is. I'm weary of hearing of a "possible recession". When your stock market loses 20% of its value in one week, you're not only in a recession, you're in a depression.

I mistakenly turned to CNBC last night, and subsequently watched the asian markets collapse. Thus the reason for the instant 1500 point drop in the market when it opened this morning.

These American policies have caused an International disaster that no weapon of mass destruction has ever caused.

What happens to all of the charitable organizations that depend on the holiday season so heavily for their 2009 funding? What happens to at-risk states that are on the verge of becoming failed states? What happens to the poor and to the hungry?

While Bush was doing his trashy speech, the Dow Jones was clicking down.

Somebody please, please, please, put this fucker in a straightjacket and commit him. He still doesn't realize that every time he opens his "eater" things go wrong. He is so full of himself, and what is really sorry is that after eight years of stupidity "some" people refuse to see the man for what he is: A dumb pitiful sorry ass.

Jeez! For God sake man. Resign and go home. We'll mail your White House salary.

With the GOP tanking, conservatoids have made a big move - they're spending their time discussing Red Dawn.

This is great for me, of course, as it gives me a great excuse to repost "Red Dawn Redux (Dave Poltz Remix)"

;)

Love the clean new look around here, BTW.

That's a good recap of how blogs do indeed break stories... I am glad, though, the surveillance getting more press now, although Congress remains pretty pathetic.

The Republican offensives against Obama and ACORN are setting up a narrative of STOLEN ELECTION!!

Scrutiny Hooligans has the post

That's just ignorant people in Allentown (well, Bethlehem--but it's all connected in the Lehigh Valley: Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton). Plenty of those kinds up there.

Obama's still gonna slaughter McCain in Philly and take PA, just like Gore and Kerry did.

Don't panic.
