Mike's Blog Roundup

The Mahatma X Files: Nationalists, who are practically the whole intellectual class of a country, not only do not disapprove of the crimes of their own state, but have the remarkable capacity not even to see them.

Economist's View: Sometimes we do have a better press corps

Scott Horton: We will be able to sleep more soundly tonight knowing that a serious criminal has been apprehended

Kevin Drum: Perhaps the most disturbing aspect of the report on the Troopergate imbroglio is learning how shockingly amateurish the Palin administration is.

Jon Swift: In defense of angry angry mobs

It's sex sex sex at The Opinion Mill's Weekend Bookchat! Just as wingers can diagnose brain-damaged patients from hundreds of miles away, they can review books before they've even been published! Looks like conservative hack Hugh Hewitt got a little ahead oh himself on a book proposal! Looks like a hissy fit at Red State is spurring increased sales for a handbook of . . . computer advice? And say hello to the first presidential candidate in a long time whose books can be compared with the works of one of America's greatest authors!

Here's a late night Colorado poll from pollster.com which shows Obama smoking McCain by 10 points.

http://www.pollster.com/blogs/co_obama_52_mcc...

Was Sarah Palin's house built as a kick-back?
Todd Palin told Fox News that he built the two-story, 3,450-square-foot, four-bedroom, four-bath, wood house himself, with the help of contractors he described as "buddies." As mayor, Sarah Palin blocked an effort to require the filing of building permits in the wide-open city, and there is no public record of who the "buddies" were. The house was built very near the complex, on a site whose city purchase led to years of unsuccessful litigation and, now, $1.3 million in additional costs, with a law firm that's also donated to Palin collecting costly fees from the city.

I'm sure there will be much more dirt to come Palin's way in the coming weeks as Alaskans speak up. The avalanche is just beginning, as they say.

Speaking of which:

Palin attacks Native peoples of Alaska

Both the state courts and federal courts have five times already struck down Sarah Palin's attack on Alaskan Native subsistence rights. There is perhaps no issue of greater importance to native peoples. She still has one lawsuit pending.

Her lawsuits seek to eliminate their fishing and hunting rights in order to expand sport and commercial fishing and hunting.

http://www.statesmanjournal.com/apps/pbcs.dll...

Which would mean - they lose their ability to gather food.

Allows the commercial fishing industry free access to every last critter in the Alaskan Seas including Palin's own fishing company.
And forces the Inuit to come in from the cold and settle on government reservations and become welfare prisoners and politically impotent too.

Gets those pesky annoying Inuits away from the mineral rich areas they might live on or near, and might be upset if were strip mined/ drilled into swiss cheese.
Which in a circular way brings us and Sarah back to WcCain and his involvement with the forced resettlement of Arizonan Indians off their mineral rich lands.

Its a Republican trait to evict/murder people for their profit and their victims impoverishment, some might call it stealing.

Thanks for the link....more to come on this and it appears that Spenard Building Suppy may be the beginning of the end on the Palin's for this obvious illegality.

as the old Republican graft machine says.

"build me a fancy house and I will give you X"

Much to the ongoing chagrin and embarrassment of the McCain Camp, Troopergate is far from over; in fact, it appears now that this report will be the foundation for fines, censure, and potential criminal charges against both Palin's - her for permitting her husband illegal access to state employees personnel information; Todd Palin, for acting on it.

I think Troopergate has the potential to become a ticking time bomb for McCain which will tick right up and through November 4.

Here's Newsweek's article from this morning:

Letter of recommendation Palin wrote about Wooten.

http://extras.mnginteractive.com/live/media/s...

Did not mention once that Wooten was married to her sister.

She can't spell worth a shit either.

What americans have learned this week from the hate rallies perpetuated by Palin and McCain is that if we fail to distance ourselves from this type of bigotry and violent division, we will become a third world country in the process.

What has become patently clear is that these good old boy tactics which have worked to divide us greater than ever in our nation's history are the tactics of the "ROVE/BUSH MACHINE". We're experiencing right now where these divisive tactics have gotten us - to the bottom of the barrel internationally in terms of respect and standing in the world.

What we've also witnessed is how willing and "ready" McCain and Palin have been to embrace these tactics which they profess on the stump they are rallying against. At what point did McCain and Palin become the "it" they are trying to distance themselves from?

At what point does the ignitor of a tinderbox become consumed in flames themselves as they attempt to run away from it?

At what point does their own terrorist-inciting language make them into the very domestic terrorist they claim their opponent to be?

All of these questions were answered for americans across the country this week.

Clearly, McCain & Palin have now become the "It" they are proposing to fight against; clearly, McCain and Palin have now become the precise "domestic terrorits" they're trying to scare americans about and paint on the other guy - you know, "That one".

I believe the jury's out on this and Obama didn't have to do a single thing. Americans now know that McCain & Fail-in are dangerous to this country. They are dangerous to our stability as a nation; they are criminals who hold themselves to be above the law (Troopergate and inciting violence in their rallies) and they are TOTALLY AND UNEQUIVOCALLY INCABLE OF DOING THE JOB.

Amazing! All Obama has to do is remain cool and steady while the McCain Express totally derails and drowns in the flames which they've lit for themselves.

Your point is taken but you've mixed too many metaphors I think.

I hope you're correct. As you say, many Americans will draw the conclusion that the Palin/McCain ticket is unfit to lead our nation.
Unfortunately, many Americans will also receive their "intended" message, which is blatantly rascist.

Their cleverly designed questions (who is Obama?) and innuendo about hanging out with Ayers (a domestic terrorist!) is meant only to revive those long-repressed feelings many caucasions hold. Facts and logic don't necessarily trump emotion. Sad, but still true....

The piece on conformity is EXCELLENT, with its exploration of the pressures that force conformity in many fields! At least those of us who function outside "influential circles" don't have to conform and have far more independence than most "experts".

Thanks for this link.

this really hit home for me after working for BLM, USDA, and Military , where all the educated and experienced folks have been driven out or silenced, and posers willing to be "yes men" become the experts.

explains a lot of what is happening now

Of course, McCain would like nothing more than for the Keating 5 to be compared to the pathetic Ayers attack from 50 years ago; however, the fact that the precise criminal activities which John McCain WAS involved in during Keating 5 (attempting to bribe regulators) is TOTALLY RELEVANT to the economic meltdown of today.

In fact, it's almost the same cast of Republican characters....with John McCain as the "constant" as Mr. Deregulator (self-proclaimed, mind you) appearing in the genesis of both of these horrendous miscarriages of justice.

Throw in Phil Gramm, McCain's economic advisor now, who was in the Senate and helped cut a swath through regulation of our financial institutions, and you're well on your way to comprehending what's happening right.

This current economic crisis and Keating 5 have the same "theme" - criminal deregulation. The current economic crisis and Keating 5 have the same "mastermind" - none other than John Sydney McCain.

Then throw in Rick Davis who was on Freddie Mac's payroll as a lobbyist and you realize that we, the taxpayers, have now paid Rick Davis's salary....$15,000 taken in September from Freddie Mac.

There's more breaking news about Rick Davis and the Montenegro situation.

Came across these links which:
crush the wingers blaming the current financial crisis on Fannie and Freddie http://www.mcclatchydc.com/251/story/53802.html
this one for the Ayers/Obama relationship. There are some great quotes from known conservatives that trash the relationship

Oh, the Jon Swift article was priceless:

"If National Review cut all of its foaming-at-the-mouth readers from its subscriber rolls who would be left to read the magazine?"

He's parodied himself better than Jon Stewart could've parodied him.

"Sure, angry mobs can get a little rambunctious and overenthusiastic at times."

I hate it when those frisky playful KKK boys burn my house down, but they mean well ... well, at least they are mean.

there is a difference between a mob that takes on the state, truth to power,

and a mob, backed by the state, full of lies.

is amazing. A howl of pure hate bred of ignorance and lifelong hate-filled cultural influences.

Somebody ought to get a prize for that photo.

not Red grubby and blue.

Is that shirt seriously dirty or meant to be that off white colour !!??

Great piece. Always something interesting in your Round-up, Mike. Love it.

Mobs against Obama, mobs against book publishers...
