House Introducing a Bill for "Responsible Redeployment"
By Nicole Belle Tuesday Jul 10, 2007 2:02pmWith the news that the Iraqi government has failed to meet any of the benchmarks set for them (see the National Security Network's press release on failed benchmarks smacking down any White House spin), the Democratic majority is on record of trying to act as poll after poll shows the American people want them to do: get the troops out of Iraq.
The House Democratic leadership tonight announced that the House will vote later this week on a bill to change course in Iraq. The legislation, sponsored by Armed Services Committee Chairman Ike Skelton, would begin the responsible redeployment of U.S. troops within 120 days and complete redeployment by April 1, 2008. The President would have to report to Congress why troops should remain in Iraq for limited purposes such as to fight terrorism or to train Iraqi forces.
Speaker Pelosi:
The American people have rejected the President's failed policies in Iraq and his war without end. The situation on the ground in Iraq is worsening, and the Iraqi government has failed to meet the benchmarks set in law. This week, every Member of the House will have an opportunity to vote to set a new direction in Iraq. The American people want Congress to bring our troops home, refocus our efforts to fighting terrorism, and hold the Bush Administration accountable.

Yes!!!!
To where do they "redeploy"? Iran? Syria?
lets see if anything comes of. I mean the media is of no help in matters like this. they blame the Dem Majority now if things don't get passed.
Orwell's Illegitimate Son @ 2:
I believe that's GW's wet dream.....
I don't know what is more pathetic: the people who still believe in President Bush, or the people who still believe in Nancy Pelosi.
Orwell’s Illegitimate Son Says:
To where do they “redeploy”? Iran? Syria?
Rep. Jack Murtha stated that he would like to see the troops redeployed to areas the U.S. occupied, or should I say were stationed, prior to the "shock & awe" invasion. We have been there since Gulf War I keeping the "No Fly Zone" protected while Saddam still ruled, and it is to these areas that the troops would most likely be re-deployed.
I say we should redeploy them HOME instead of to another poorly run hodge-podge of slogan rich places. We have NO just cause anymore, we've run our amigos into the dirt and have none left. We should let them come home, give them the mental and physical aid they'll need, and then dig in on the defensive because yes, they will be hitting us hard and will for a long time...unless by a miracle, a leader is elected who makes friends of enemies...but who are we kidding, such a christian principle would never exist among our godless leaders.
I'm still trying to catch up to the idea that there were benchmarks.
I still thought that benchmarks was considered a loser strategy. That winning involved not marking your progress. By avoiding the use of goals, we could never fail to meet them.
When did Bush announce these benchmarks?
Definitely the bush supporters.
Oh brother: Pelosi, give your mouth a rest. How many times can you say you will hold the administration accountable and then turn around and simply not do it? Either do it, or shut the hell up and step aside.
I think we may have reached a tipping point with Iraq. God only knows why it is all happening now and happening so fast but two more Republican Senators - Gordon Smith (R-OR) and Olympia Snowe (R - Maine) are cosponsoring legislation to have troops withdraw from Iraq by April.

If this is a serious question, redeployment in this case would mean redeployment to the United States (i.e. bring them home).

stonicus @ 9:
Nah. I'd have to say it's a dead-heat.
"Responsible Redeployment" starts with rebuilding the Gulf Coast and restoring parts of it environmentally to mitigate future hard knocks from hurricanes.
the repubs want to filibuster anything that brings the troops home before next century
Orwell's Illegitimate Son @ 13:
Nancy's in heat?
please get our guys back here soon chertoffs stinking guts are acting up!
SHUT UP NANCY! HELLO SPEAKER SHEEHAN!
I hope you people do realize that about 50% (perhaps more) of the USofA populace either has NO idea what the hell is going on or doesn't care.
As long as the majority of repubs are willingly to do bush's bidding, nothing much is going to change. I turned on c-span a bit ago and there was McCain on the floor of the senate talking about how much Iran is involved in the Iraqi war. He had the number of Americans killed by weapons that came from Iran and all that sort of thing. He and his evil twin, Joe Lieberman, so want to drop something on Iran.
this is bullshit! get them out now ANd impeach the war criminals...NOW!!!
sheehan runs against pelosi if she doesnt try to impeach by 7/23/07...where is that headline?
not at all responsible actually. we told you to bring them home now, you did not listen. you are fired.
This is the last time I'll be listening Nancy, got it? Personally, I think the entire federal government should be waterboarded. Nothing good has come of them.
Cut the bullshit! Cut the funding and put impeachment back on the table. This plan of action also requires the Dems to drop a pair and actually take a position without opinion polls.
bilhelm-X @ 23:
I volunteer waterboarding time for Scalia, Alito, Roberts and Thomas. Hell, I'll take a month off without pay!
Decaffeinated coffee, non-alcoholic beer, safe sex, safe war?
Fan_of_Some_Humans @ 18:
Oh, please. You've GOT to be kidding. This symbolic nonsense of Sheehan is just what the reich wing wants to see -- the Dems (who ARE the majority) sniping against each other.
That just makes the Dems look even worse than they already do (non-binding resolutions, etc.)
Steve @ 10:
(cheers loudly) Bravo! Bravo!
“Responsible Redeployment” = oxy moron.
redeployment is NOT responsible
Nancy is so two-faced, she could French kiss herself.
ysbaddaden @ 30:
You mean she's got another face made of the leftover skin from her facelifts?
jr @ 15:
Ah, Yes, the PARTY of UP AND DOWN Votes?
Remember, when THEY had the majority, blocking up and down votes was tantamount to murdering children on the Capital Steps?
There needs to be a word beyond hypocrite for Republics in congress these days....
WashStateBlue @ 32:
How about traitors?
Dr. Acula @ 33:
Even some traitors have a cause?
These guys are true nihilists, they care for nothing but holding on to their grip on what little power they have left, as they see Bush keeps drilling more and more holes in the boat, and it's taking on water faster and faster?
On the other side of the stream, they can all see Dick Cheney unloading his hundreds of millions of war profits, getting ready to sneak out of town in the dead of night?
That's why, all that's left for Bush and Cheney is a long protracted stall, till they can blow town with the cash.
Stall the congressional hearings, stall the troop pull-out, just wait it out, and hand out the blanket full immunity pardons on the way out the door! It's coming, and you know it is!
How lucky for the Congressional Republics, they will be left holding the empty bag, when Bush is in Crawford and Cheney is on Martha's vineyard, fat, dumb and rich as Midas!

William @ 24:
VEGAS is taking odds on that happening!
mike @ 21:
that's an earlier thread!
Right frickin' on!!! It's about time!
I hope the US troops remember this the next time they line up behind Chimpy and laugh, stomp and cheer.
Keep in mind that it's the GOP that can't wait to send you to Iraq and have you come back in a bag. Just remember that the next time you mock a Dem and blindly line up behind some Republican piece of shit.
Bringing the troops home would be a good start. Next, bring ALL U.S. troops home from ALL foreign countries.
Why in the hell is Republican framing always being used to discuss this issue. Enough with the "redeployment" nonsense. The word is "WITHDRAWAL". Would you ever say, "I don't want to get you pregnant, so I will redeploy early?" Frank Luntz is laughing at all of you.
I'd love to see Sheehan take on that corporate shill Pelosi, but let's be realistic. Pelosi's the biggest fundraiser in Congress (last I read) and the corporate media & Dino party will come to her rescue in a real challenge (I'm sure you all recall Lamont v. LIEberman?)
Why even pretend there's democracy anymore? The plutocrats thumb their noses in our faces. "I kick dere butts!"-- Schwarzenegger, speaking about working Americans

here is the plan, they are going to allow for the dem's to beg and plead for drawbacks, then when we got about half the troops there; some crazy shit will happen to our troops in Iraq.
This will instantly be used as proof by the Reich Wing noise machine as proof that the Dem' policies are killing the country. There just trying to use Nixon's' old plan.
Listen to the first 20 minutes to this tape
http://webstorage3.mcpa.virginia.edu/rmn/audiovisual/whrecordings/chron1...
listen for the part about letting congress take the wrap when vietnam goes bad.
And the part about the people not knowing what is best for the country.
And how he will just "turn it hard right" to "show em something"
In the end Nixon ended up taken the final fall for all that.
Hopefully Bush is just as UNSLICK as old tricky dick!
FUCK
Oh Yeah,

Very well put ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Pres Bush goes to all these famous peoples funerals and all that crap. They should make him go to EVERY one of the funerals for the fallen Marines and Soldiers. Maybe then he would get a clue to what the &*%( he has done to his own people. Screw him, pull out of Iraq now. It's a joke and it was all based on a lie (WMDs... where are they?)
