Ward, take it easy on the Beaver.
Spectacular. What great work! Thanks!
Since it's an open thread, I thought that I'd just take the time to share this article from Reason.com
Because the police state is here.
I started checking out Reason.com after watching the interview that Bill Moyers had with the founder of the magazine.
Sheriff Joe Arpaio Wants to Know What Websites You've Visited
Radley Balko | October 19, 2007, 10:42am
If, that is, you've ever read the Phoenix New Times online. The alternative weekly has run several articles over the years critical of the so-called "toughest sheriff in America." But when an investigative piece on a series of questionable Arpaio real estate transactions included the sheriff's home address (possibly violating state law), Arpaio launched an incredibly broad, wide-reaching investigation that looks an awfully lot like retaliation.
Last August, the grand jury investigating the case issued a sweeping, probably unconstitutional subpoena demanding that in addition to reporter notes, drafts or articles, and internal memos, the New Times also turn over:
A) which pages visitors access or visit on the Phoenix New Times website;
B) the total number of visitors to the Phoenix New Times website;
C) information obtained from 'cookies,' including, but not limited to, authentication, tracking, and maintaining specific information about users (site preferences, contents of electronic shopping carts, etc.);
D) the Internet Protocol address of anyone that accesses the Phoenix New Times website from January 1, 2004 to the present;
E) the domain name of anyone that has accessed the Phoenix New Times website from January 1, 2004 to the present;
F) the website a user visited prior to coming to the Phoenix New Times website;
G) the date and time of a visit by a user to the Phoenix New Times website;
H) the type of browser used by each visitor (Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Netscape Navigator, Firefox, etc.) to the Phoenix New Times website; and
I) the type of operating system used by each visitor to the Phoenix New Times website."
After the special prosecutor in the case attempted to arrange a possibly-illegal ex-parte meeting with the grand jury and the judge, the New Times decided to publish the contents of the grand jury subpeona, explaining at the time that doing so may well get the paper's editors arrested.
It did. Arpaio had the paper's executive editor and CEO arrested last night.

Cool.
It's not considered blogwhoring, if it isn't your own blog, right?
If that's the case, then let me just say that the new Mr.Drink Water 'toon is up, it's not only a doozie, but an updating of an old classic, as well, that I'm sure would get the Tim Robbins and Mike Malloy seal of approval.
Tell your friends, and pass it along, if you like it

[Open thread means blogwhoring ok, even if it IS your own-Sitemonitor]
Wall Street celebrates the '87 crash with another one. Latest on our accidental armed nuke shipment faux pas. For once, people are held accountable. (For now...) The Afghani insurgents are doing a big chunk of their business through opium.
Another Ground Zero rescue worker gets screwed.
A judge might hold Bush in contempt
for not having copies of the "deleted" tapes.
Message might be right but I always hated Leave It Beaver
Kucnich! The only candidate with a sense of humor!
I just love Dennis!!
VegasRage @ 7:
Oh, hi Eddie.
Sorry, tapes=e-mails. I wonder why I confused him with Tricky Dick for a sec...
I'd take the Beaver over Bush any day!
Heh - is calling Kucinich the most Canadian candidate out there an insult?
Rush tries to sell his hate mail for the sake of making up for his comments. But he'll always be a draft-dodging chicken-hawk at heart.
The few Germans left defending Hitler sound suspiciously similar to the "values" voters who are still defending Bush.
Tequila @ 15:
Suspiciously similar, yes, though not identical. At least those folks in Germany mostly admit that the Nazis' genocide and wars were bad things.
Funny how a low crime rate was listed as one of the good things under National Socialism. Good grief!
Tequila @ 15:
Good catch.
Both these modern day German 25%ers, and their cousins, our pin-headed, American "values" voters, might want to read this first, before they go off extolling the "virtues of family."

Tequila @ 14:
Money from the auction will go to the Marine Corps - Law Enforcement Foundation.
Foundation formed by former Marines and law enforcement personnel who strongly believe the nation's most precious resource is its youth. Nothing really to do with soldiers as Rush would have you belive by claiming it's a donation to one of the Marines charities. And call me cynical but that "most precious resource" concern makes me think of Foley.
Excellent. This short, educational film strip really sent the message out there.
Kucinich for President.
I never would have guessed that June and Ward were Dems. It's too bad that Beaver didn't really say anything this intelligent before. He would be on Mount Rushmore now, you know the place where they wanted to add the head of Ron the Hun.
Isome @ 9:
Instead of endless illegal wars benefiting Republican criminals and corporate cronies we need a Department of Peace.
http://www.thepeacealliance.org/
All these fake christians and their fake religious front groups just don't get it. Let peace be your god.
Karen @ 16:
On its face it looks contradictory, yes, but please consider that in a Police State environment, not only are political dissidents pursued, but criminals as well.
That's how a person like Rudy Ghouliani sells himself, on a municipal, and national level.
~nwa
Someone did a wonderful job on that video. Please make sure they are recognized and thanked for their efforts.
cleo @ 20:
Actually rumor has it Ward worked for the CIA. Ever notice how he went to work at "The Office" but never discussed what he did for a living? In case you did not know, the guy who played Eddie Haskel ended up on the California Hiway Patrol, The Beave became a real estate agent. I forget what happened to Wally except i think i saw him in a really bad movie once.
Didn't Eddie Haskel grow up to be David Addington?
Too bad that Beave and family are in custody down in Gitmo now.
stargazer @ 21:
Jimmy Carter started one. The first thing Ronald Reagan did after inauguration was he had the solar panels Greenpeace donated and installed on the roof of the White House ripped down. The second thing he was he abolished the Department of Peace.
VegasRage @ 7:
Agreed. They should use "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis" ...any scene with Maynard.
Dustin de Wynde @ 22:
Oh, of course. I know what they meant.
And, sure, if the population is in constant fear of being imprisoned or killed simply for displeasing their leaders, I would imagine a good many more would obey the law than might otherwise be inclined to do so. If the leaders are ruthless criminals, the population can be subdued (for a while, at least). I didn't perceive a bald-faced contradiction, but bone-chilling irony.
xoites defends Constitution @ 27:
You're kidding? Geezus... can always count on you for some excellent information! Thanks xiotes!
xoites defends Constitution @ 27:
Who leaked that to you. That is classified information.
Isome @ 30:
No, i am not kidding. And no, Ron, it is not classified.
If it was happening now, it would be.
Regardless of how you come down on the reparations issue (slavery), I deducted points from Kucinich for quoting the bible in his justification for being for it during one of the debates.
seevee @ 34:
Being for reparations, i presume you mean. So am i, by the way.
xoites defends Constitution @ 35:
Yes. As far as reparations, how would that work? Do you know?
xoites defends Constitution @ 32:
You can't just put this kind of inflammatory information out there w/out consequences. ;-) Personally, I'm now doubly angry at the ridiculous kid glove treatment given Ronnie "I forgot" Reagan's legacy.
I am for reparations to the descendants of slaves. I am for reparations to the present day slave wager. I am for reparations to to our Constitution. I am for reparations to the Iraqi people. I think the 1% of the population who own 48% of the entire world's wealth are the ones who should make these and other reparations.
Dustin de Wynde @ 4:
Good toon. :)

Dennis on Congress and the Iraq

Kucinich on accountability...

Word. Kucinich wasn't just speaking of reparations for African-Americans, but for the poor in our country and every country we've ruined. Rather than blame the Iraqis like the top-tier Dems, Kucinich actually believes we owe the Iraqis for our damages. I believe he also supports the notion that Israel ought to pay reparations to the Lebanese and Palestinians.
Hi, Manila, Ron and Isome. Nice to see you all here tonight. :)
xoites defends Constitution @ 38:
Ah yes, the 1%ers. I got mine. You get yours.
Isome @ 37:
I'm not the same Ronnie, I think I have some brain cells left. By the way, what were we talking about?
xoites defends Constitution @ 10:
Bwaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhahhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
By the way, here's a good little article on what Xoites was saying about Reagan and the solar panels.
Thanks for the support again folks. Any pro-Kucinich bloggers should contact me at my blog or at The 35 Percenters if you'd like to be on our blogroll and part of the group. We need as many allies as possible.
How ya doing xoites? Nice to hear from you again.
Lumpy Rutherford is a Repub.
xoites defends Constitution @ 41:
You too Xoites. Always a pleasure. I'm actually fixin' to eat me some food right now, but I'll be back on later.
VegasRage @ 7:
Then you're a godless, commie rat, rat, rat.
As for the "hilarious" spoof...June Cleaver checks in with her opinion here.
Right again, June.
Jesus, mix the sound a little. They all sound like they're in space suits.

Johnny2Bad @ 49:
Oh! A dissenter. How nice. :)
Manila Ryce @ 45:
Count me in... I just sent (shared) your page with a couple of people I know. I'll be sure to contact you!!
Jumpy @ 50:
Oh, that! That is just how you would sound if we were listening to what you said back in 1961.
Manila Ryce @ 40:
Whenever I hear a Democrat say something about 'the Iraqis need to take responsibility' or 'the Iraqis need to step up', it just drives me batty!!
xoites defends Constitution @ 54:
That was when you could depend on the media to report the news.
Isome @ 53:
The only problem i have with that article is that it says the solar panels were taken down in 1986. They were gone in Febraury 1980.
By the way, Nancy Reagan's first act after her senile husband became President was to turn Amy Carter's bedroom into a walk in closet so she had a place to put all the designer originals she was given every month.
xoites defends Constitution @ 57:
Are you sure it wasn't Feb 1981?
Isome @ 55:
Yeah, I concur. Our country somehow installed into the Oval Office an orangutan who blew up a country about whose people he understood nothing, and then commanded them at gunpoint to govern themselves. When they try, and the orangutan doesn't like what they do, they're not allowed to do it anymore.
And now, for the Democrats even to suggest that the Iraqi people as a whole are culpable for the plight the U.S. has reigned down upon them is beyond disgusting.
One more antectdote: Mother Teresa went to the White House but refused to eat dinner with them. She told the Reagans, "I never eat with people who have never been hungry."
Yes, sorry, thanks for the correction.
My appologies to "anecdote." I have butchered few words as brutally.
xoites defends Constitution @ 62:
Yeah, me to. sometimes I forget. Ella hummers I guess.
I would like to discuss what happened to the Village Voice today.
3 Auntie Christ
Has the reference.
I heard this on the news today and it astounded me.
Since this is an open thread, perhaps someone can answer me why the Democratic leadership is so intent on cooperating with this administration instead of standing up to it's corruption?
Kudos to Pete Stark and Chris Dodd for having the balls that Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi don't.
LibertyLover @ 66:
Stark and Dodd for the leadership positions.
FYI Galloping glacier awes observers

xoites defends Constitution @ 65:
Yes, this is amazing is it not? But this is nothing new for this fellow...in his reelection the last time, he put out an inflamatory article about his opponent days before the election that has been proven false and his opponent even won a court case against this vileness... thank goodness, Arpaio's opponent plans to run against him again....
But what can you expect from a guy who bought a tank... that's right, I said a tank...for the state, and who rides in it on a flatbed truck in the New Year's parade every year? you guessed it....Arpaio.
Guys I'm really being screwed with, by a right wing blogger.. I need some help. This guy called my house 12:30a.m. threatened me and crap... I need some support.
Ron @ 67:
Can they reelect these positions?
LibertyLover @ 69:
I guess i am thinking that the Village Voice has some balls to stand up to this, but i am wondering how many have been subpeonied and have quietly complied?
xoites defends Constitution @65

And a sample of the sheriff on lou dobbs
Chuck Adkins @ 70:
You know, you should not go around threatening people.
If you feel in danger call the police.
Chuck Adkins @ 70:
Call the police. And your phone company. Phone threats violate terms of service. Threatening people is illegal. If he did it from another state, call the FBI. If he calls you again, tape it. If you have a messaging service, keep any messages he leaves you.
Don't let him rile you. Don't react to his shit if he calls again. He's a pussy, a fuckwit and a coward.
That's reprehensible.
LibertyLover @ 71:
I don't know, but it would be a good idea.
"No, I don’t plan on causing this man any trouble at all. He just pissed me off, especially after calling my house after 12:30 at night."
You should cause him trouble. LEGAL trouble. And take his personal info off of your site. That just makes matters worse. and if he sends you THREATENING EMAILS forward them to the FBI. These asshats are all over "the rule of law" Give him a taste of it, and do not respond to him any more.
miss_kitty @ 73:
Can anyone give me one good reason to like Lou Dobbs?
> Guys I’m really being screwed with, by a right wing blogger..
Don't feel alone!!!!
> I need some help. This guy called my house 12:30a.m. threatened me and crap… I need some support.
Here's what you do. You keep on doing what you were doing to get them on your case, and eventually they'll stop threatening you because they know that their attempt won't be successful. Their attempt is to silence you, not threaten you.
xoites defends Constitution @ 72:
Well, the sherriff is very intimidating... I wouldn't be surprised... but good on the reporters... one of whom was still in jail as of this morning...most sane people around here think he is just a media attention whore, but there are a whole lot of people that support him down here... I can't think why...
I'll post another story about this man in a minute...
> Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin
Real American heros.
Stanley Rosenthal @ 79:
You've got to remember, they are the cowards.
Stanley Rosenthal @ 79:
Stanley, i would take that advice. Basically because i am half crazy, don't give a shit and i understood a long time ago that convictions take some courage. The thing is, i would never give it.
xoites defends Constitution @ 78:
No.
> You’ve got to remember, they are the cowards.
What's funny, what they're most afraid of is words.
miss_kitty @ 84:
You, i can always count on. :)
