Bush 'envious' of U.S. troops

I really wish the president wouldn’t say things like this.

In a videoconference, Bush heard from U.S. military and civilian personnel [in Afghanistan] about the challenges ranging from fighting local government and police corruption to persuading farmers to abandon a lucrative poppy drug trade for other crops. [...]

“I must say, I’m a little envious,” Bush said. “If I were slightly younger and not employed here, I think it would be a fantastic experience to be on the front lines of helping this young democracy succeed.”

“It must be exciting for you … in some ways romantic, in some ways, you know, confronting danger. You’re really making history, and thanks,” Bush said.

Every time the president talks like this, which is often, he has no idea how insulting it is.

The audacity. We all already know what happened when he was younger and had just such a chance.

Boy this is a great thread to be frist on!!!

I know some folks I work with who would gladly let the pres'dint take their place on the next deployment..you know, so he could enjoy the experience.

Lewis Black gets most of his inspiration from moments like this:

Apparently, war is fun?

Yeah Georgie and in your own inept way you are making history too.

in a related story, Warren Beatty reports feeling regret at not becoming a cloistered monk.

My Shocked-By-Bush's-Stupid-Comments-o-meter has been blown out for quite sometime. I'm glad the troops know he supports them.

If the asshole wasn't such a fucki'n coward he would have done his time in Nam, he would have known what he was talking about.

FUCK BUSH
he is a coward. he wouldn't fulfil his own military obligation
he hide tail and ran to mommy and daddy to hide from the bad
vietnam war. bush is a fucking wanker.
let's start a campaign to send really sent bush to the front
lines in afganistan now and with the same poor equipment
he sent these brave troops in with.

IMPEACH THIS BASTARD

Where was GWB at when men were dying on the front lines of Vietnam? He's an idiot.

A Bush on the front lines?

He'd be the guy dropping Napalm on innocent civilians from airplanes or shooting cruise missiles like operating a video game.

I'd love to see what the enemy would do to him if he got captured. I'd love to see if America's 'we don't negotiate with terrorists' mantra would change.

How sweet, he started a war just for them

Well, his daughter is getting married soon. If Iraq is so romantic, perhaps the two of them can enlist, and spen their honeymoon there.

The fucking frat boy's audacity amazes me.

Bush is not only insulting by saying he is envious, it is also very, very stupid.
However by now, he is not the brightest bulb in the room.

Well, that fuckwit can enlist on Jan 21, 2009. They need true believers like George over there, right now.

If he had the courage of his convictions, he'd do it. I'd pay good money to see his little naked highness stoplossed.

Poor little george. He still doesn't understand the difference between being "installed" and employed.
If he wants to play soldier, send him out to the presidential sandbox behind the rose garden.

However by now, we all know, I meant to say :):):)

It would be extremely difficult to find a more hypocritical statement than Bush's, attempting to claim that "... it would be a fantastic experience to be on the front lines..." He had that opportunity to put his life on the line over forty years ago, when he could have joined the army or the marines in order to fight in the jungles of Vietnam. Instead, through the help of family and friends, he ended up in the safe haven of the National Guard. While there, Bush checked off a box on a military form which stated his preference for not going overseas. It is simply stunning that those military personnel who listen to Bush's speeches do not all rise up en masse in protest at the hypocrisy of someone like Bush [and also Cheney] urging his fellow Americans to sacrifice for the fatherland while he himself made sure that he came no where near a field of combat while wearing a military uniform.

He had a chance to be on the front lines in his youth, and chose to be in the National Guard. Then he could'nt even complete that obligation. He is what is called in Texas "snakebit". Everything he touches turns to shit.

Can you imagine what kind of a Dictator you could be if you had his following?

If stupity would hurt, Bush would be in a Hospital

Yes war is "romantic" and a "fantastic experience". How much more delusional is Bush going to become

That old White house is behind me,
I am once again carefree,
Don't have to worry 'bout a crisis in Pyongyang.
Down the lane I look, Dick Cheney is strolling
With documents he'd been withholding,
It's good to touch the brown brown grass of home."

Unbelievable. If this draft dodger did go to war he would find out real fast just how romantic it is to spend a night in a foxhole.

When the women come out to carve up yer remains,
Just roll to yer rifle and blow out yer brains

Would that he would ..........

The last throes of the BushCo presidency arriving, in which Georgie reveals more & more of his inner Bush. The troops must have really appreciated this fantasy fun house mirror view of what their daily lives are like.

Shorter GWB- "I wanta to be a war hero like Daddy. But only in my imagination. Reality would make me shit my pants & puke my guts."

Jesus H. Christ, I hope Stewart and Olberman get ahold of this one. For a guy who gave up coke and alcohol, how does he achieve this altered state of mind?

The insult to the military personnel, is beyond belief.

But, maybe there is a silver lining. If the military keeps lowering recruitment standards, and upping the age limit, he can join them once his term is up. He can carry buckets of tainted Halliburton water to the washroom.

My guess is that he watched Patton before he made that dumb comment.

What a f*cking chickenhawk PIG!! He had his chance, and where was he?? AWOL from Air Force Reserves.

What a sissy piece of shit this monkey is. To even say such a thing, he deserves to have his face slapped silly.

This man is a carbuncle on the face of time.

He has a nephew who is eligible to serve. Of course, Jenna and not Jenna are still of age to serve as well.

A little while ago CNN had an interesting interview with Iraqi solders.

It was asked if Iraqi solders are watching the American Presidential election ?

Yes, they said they were. Here is the kicker Four out five wanted Hillary Clinton to be President. How about that, they said it is dificult to work with these Republicans.

Sheesh, even the Iraqi solders don't like Republicans. Thats funny.

He had his chance and he "opt" out. I remember thinking it might be exciting ,in some ways romantic, you know, confronting danger so I quit High School and joined up but that was 1962 and I was a dumb 17 year old kid.
What's is his fucking excuse?!?

Chimpy is too fucking stupid to filter his own thoughts and words. That douchebag is just one long flowing stream of consciousness. Some people say he can't be that stupid, but he must be. No way else to explain such a insulting, brain-dead statement.

The idiot is driving this runaway bus for another 9 months and none of us are willing to grab the wheel from him. Anyone, please? He's got plenty of time to destroy us all.

Maybe he's been so scary happy lately is because he knows the end* is near.

*end, like in Armageddon, like in the last battle between good and evil...

It is good that bush does not go to Iraq. He has managed to fuck things up from the otherside of the planet. Imagine how bad it would be if he was in Baghdad.

Bush should not be allowed to serve out the balance of his term.

I think people like Ron Kovic and Bobby Mueller would certainly share your sentiments about the true nature of war. The 1974 Oscar-winning documentary Hearts and Minds should have proved that war is anything but romantic. But that would probably be the last film that flag wavers like Bush and Cheney and O'Reilly and Limbaugh would care to see, as realism always has a rude way of intruding upon one's patriotic fantasies.

Bush is envious of anyone who has earned the respect of other Americans with a greater-than-room-temperature intelligence.

But he is only willing to destroy emails, grant his criminal flunkies amnesty, and restrict historians from accessing his records, in order to earn that respect.

I think bush is having fun because he knows he can't be touched. He is stupid, arrogant, dumb, clumsy but his purpose has been accomplished and that is giving the war profiteers and oil companies billions. He has accomplished that very well. Paid with BLOOD. Impeach the prick and you will see the coward he really is.

Sure, he's envious. But he envies frat boys chasing skirt between beer runs while AWOL more.

What a f*cking idiot!

And liar

He had a chance to serve and chose to go AWOL instead. Poppy saved his ass or he might have ended up like anyone else who skipped out on ACDUTRA - on active duty. Of course he'd have ended up managing an O club on some Air Force base.

'Front lines'? What 'front lines'? There were 'frontlines' back when We had 'frontlines'. Now we have quagmire. What a maroon.

Think he is getting mellow - or is that senile - in his old age, he didn't envy the troops in Viet Nam when he could have went over there to serve with them.

I agree. I always associate the front with the trenches that soldiers were in during the Great War. The last thing that I can imagine is for George Bush to go "over the top" by charging the enemy from his foxhole. George Bush-a classic case of do as I say, not as I do.

Well,I guess the last war that actually had a 'front' was The India -Pakistani war. And WW 2 had well defined fronts. ......BUT. GW Bush going over the top? That's hilarious to even concider.

What a corrupt, morally bankrupt, lying, murdering COWARD this bum is! The JCS should arrest him and cheney and they should be tried for crimes against humanity.

I wonder how may minutes Bush would last in combat. War is much funner if you don't have to fight in one.

So, NOW he wants to be in.

Coco? Yer not serious. In afganistan? Hee hee.

To glorify war.... that is despicable.
Chris Hedges, who has been there, understands the delusional nature of Bush's war lust, which is usually a state of mind reserved for Gung Ho, clueless, teen-aged boys:

The prospect of war is exciting. Many young men, schooled in the notion that war is the ultimate definition of manhood, that only in war will they be tested and proven, that they can discover their worth as human beings in battle, willingly join the great enterprise. The admiration of the crowd, the high-blown rhetoric, the chance to achieve the glory of the previous generation, the ideal of nobility beckon us forward. And people, ironically, enjoy righteous indignation and an object upon which to unleash their anger. War usually starts with collective euphoria.

It is all the more startling that such fantasy is believed, given the impersonal slaughter of modern industrial warfare. I saw high explosives fired from huge distances in the Gulf War reduce battalions of Iraqis to scattered corpses. Iraqi soldiers were nothing more on the screens of sophisticated artillery pieces than little dots scurrying around like ants-that is, until they were blasted away. Bombers dumped tons of iron fragmentation bombs on them. Our tanks, which could outdistance their Soviet-built counterparts, blew Iraqi armored units to a standstill. Helicopters hovered above units like angels of death in the sky. Here there was no pillage, no warlords, no collapse of unit discipline, but the cold and brutal efficiency of industrial warfare waged by well-trained and highly organized professional soldiers. It was a potent reminder why most European states and America live in such opulence and determine the fate of so many others. We equip and train the most efficient killers on the planet.

Actually, since he was deemed missing and undiscovered for almost a year from May of 1972 to May of 1973, he should have been guilty of the more egregious crime of desertion, because being AWOL means being absent for less than thirty days. Since Bush did not desert on grounds of being a conscientious objector, the military has no excuse for not tracking him down and putting him in the brig for a very long time. During WW II, deserters were sometimes shot. Apparently being a Bush means never having to say you're sorry.

Remember the story about Bush delivering some flowers from Miami to Houston in his National Guard Fighter Jet.

Serious combat duty.

if bush could lead the troops up thoes mountains they would have to slip on a mile of his shit!!!!

oK .....(I appreciate site monitor) As Bangkok Bob has ALREADY said 'His troops would kill Him. SO. Using the old tried and true method when troops had 1st LTs that would get them killed,They would 'fragg them'. Not to burst yer bubble, Errol, but as far as deserters executed by US forces in WWII goes, only Eddie Slovik was executed.

And at least Slovik was scared shitless after coming under artillery fire. Stupor Mundi faced no threat but crashing his own out-dated jet on some stateside airstrip.

Fuck George W. Bush. Fuck him.

Slovik was 'an example' and, frankly murder.

If I was more proficient at Photoshop, I'd take the video of Bush tap dancing the other day while waiting for John MaCain to arrive at the White House and replace the flooring with the flag-draped caskets of our soldiers who've died over in Iraq and Afghanistan, with Pat Tillman's casket front and center.

I served in the Air Force during the same time Lt. George W. Bush went AWOL, skipping out on his Texas Air National Guard commitment, fleeing to Alabama to work on some Republican's political campaign, drinking himself stupid. Bush showed his true colors back then, and these colors weren't red, white and blue...more like yellow. Just as Dick Cheney showed his true colors back then...more like yellow, too...with his multiple deferments to get out of serving.

So, the image of George W. Bush tap dancing on the coffins of our soldiers who've died, especially those killed over in Iraq, somehow seems fitting.

David Hawes @ 99:

Slovik was 'an example' and, frankly murder.

I read a lot of history, and I've probably read as much WWI history as all the other stuff put together, and I almost get the justification of that execution. The rate of desertion at that point in the war was skyrocketing (there's been a sizable community of American deserters living in France since the '40's) and there was a dearth of available replacements.

But to me what makes Slovik's execution a murder is that he was the only one. It's as if he was chosen at random. And random just ain't justice.

Is Governor Bush aware that he had this oppurtinity right in front of his face in his youth?

Fucking jackass!
