So "whhat" exactly must the conditions be like to be considered "successful" enough to leave?

I have a racist joke to tell. I learned it one night after a black friend of mine and i got totally shitfaced back in 1978 and told each other all the racist jokes we had ever heard. This is in fact the only one i can remember because that night i purged them from my memory, i was raised in a racist nation and in my youngest days i was, as all my peers, a racist.

"What is white and round and twelve inches long?"

"Nothing!"

And that, my friends (although not entirely acurate) may indeed be what is at the crux (or the crotch) of white racism.

I'm going to print this cartoon and hand it to anyone who asks me why the "blacks get so upset and use that kind of language". That question has come my way at least twice a day since Monday and I'm tired of trying to explain it to people who so obviously don't know much about history of society in the US. Maybe this would answer it for them. I don't know why they are even asking the question; it has all been clear to me since I was a high school student in the dark ages.

Meanwhile, did anyone hear about Huckabee on Scarborough standing up for the relationship Obama has with Wright? I mean, Huck's far from my favorite guy, and I gotta wonder if his defense comes from stuff he said in HIS sermons he might like to not come back to bite him in the butt. But he made a lot of sense, talking about how even religious leaders can say things in the spirit of the moment they might wish to have phrased differently after the moment has passed...and how very very real racial problems still are in America and that we should at least attempt to empathize and understand the rage some people have over the disparity of whites vs. blacks, or haves vs. have-nots, in the richest country in the world (that's still us, right?). I had heard Huck's church was one of the first, if not the first, in the south to be inclusive to whites and blacks, so Huck's probably seen more racial strife - and tried to do more on a personal level to correct it - than insufferable loads like Robertson or Falwell or Hagee or Swaggart or Reed, past and present leaders, etc etc.

There have already been many thousands of words spewed here, I have just a few more for your consideration.

Racism, tribalism, "anti-otherism" has been a human problem since we first appeared on the planet. We're taught early on the be afraid of strangers, those who are different form us in any way. This teaching sticks, because each one of us is insecure in our own way (i.e., not sure we're good enough, if we will fit in, if we will be rejected) so we compensate for these feelings by lashing out and putting down the "others" in our lives to make ourselves feel better. And we do this on many levels - individual, family, community, race, nation, religion, etc.

Until and unless we ALL wise up and realize we are ONE HUMAN RACE all living on this
ONE and ONLY EARTH, we are doomed. This is true now more than ever, as we have cleverly developed weapons that can cause ultimate destruction. So, each individual must carefully consider how their thoughts and actions now and in the future will either contribute to or prevent this from happening.

I've been coming to and commenting on C&L for years now. I love this place, but lately I don't recognize it. Yes I know we have passoniate supporters from both the Obama and Clinton camps and that's as it should be -- but lately the "conversation" has turned.

And it got me to thinking

Is more than just the Democratic open primaries being gamed? Are our blags being gamed too? Republicans playing like they are Democrats and for candidate X and being to say the most outragous things to piss the supporters of candidate X off -- and visa versa

Are they working on dividing and conquering so we get so pisssed off with the other half of our party that bruised and battered feelings keep us from coming together and voting to keep the REAL opposition, one that will moste assuredly take us further down the road to hell, McCain, out of POTUS.

It seems like our blogs are falling with this vitriol, that becomes self supportive after the mischief of the gaming has begun, that seems to have become ever more ramped up since McCain became their nominee . . .

It's just a thought - but wow I don't recognize this place anymore.
