philly is a bit too far for that...
but, it sounds really good. it my as well be nonfiction.
for real nonfiction see john perkins' 'secret history of the american empire' and 'confessions of an econ hitman'...
I wish I was in L.A. for the movie. I would love to see it, but I live in Portland, OR. John Cusack is one of my favorite actors and so is his sister Joan. The list of cast members is promising too!
Kick in a plane ticket from Fla to LA, and I might jump on it. Wait, with the airlines such as they are now, I'd probably get there faster if I walked.
Did you know that the original title of this movie was: The War about Nothing
Cusack will nail the neo-cons on this one but no press except for the blogs will touch it, you watch. I saw Stop-Loss, great movie, very sad as to the soldiers coming home and dealing with the harshness of their experiences. I bet we won't hear anything about John's film, just like Stop Loss, it's the nintendo society , people get bored and the lies just wear you down.
I'm not in L.A. so I guess I'll just have to watch it here in Colorado. It looks intriguing and I like cast. Ben Kingsley is one of my favorite actors.
i do have a hard time seeing cusack as a hitman...
I don't watch many movies but my husband watches one most Friday nights. This past Friday night he watched "In the Valley of Elah". He couldn't stop talking about it Saturday morning.
Samson- @ 7:
Either I don't get your sarcasm, or you haven't watched "Grosse Point Blank"
Bad corporations bad!! how dare you make the equipments we use in war, feed the troops and house them!! All the while paying large sums in taxes and employing thousands!! Yet another Hollywood's bash America film festival, it will flop like the others..
The Dude @ 9:
go with number 2 on that... is it good?
although i have a suspicion that this is going to be more satirical (when you factor in joan cusack's and dan akroyd's place in the film)
email sent.
I'm seeing a special screening of Spike Lee's WW2 epic, Miracle at St. Anna tonight, so checking out War, Inc would make a nice back-to-back couple of movies. I'll make sure to come back here and give you guys a good review.
chris @ 10:
Sincere criticism doesn't come from people that have not seen the movie and has no intention of seeing it.
chris @ 10:
Not bad, but your use of excess exclamation marks had me thinking for a moment you were being sarcastic. 5/10 on the Troll-o-meter.
Samson- @ 11:
It was pretty good, I was partial to the movie because of the awesome 80s soundtrack :-)
chris @ 10:
this would be a valid point if the corporations us "lefties" criticize were actually making decent equipment that makes our troops safer, and paying lots of taxes.
but with humvees with no factory default armor plating and with shoddy kevlar, and the shit tons of tax breaks C&L has proven KBR and Halliburton have received in the past.... well, its a bullshit point instead.
but at least you're right that it will flop like the others. with the notable exception of Fahrenheit 9/11, Americans just don't want to watch this stuff.
chris @ 10:
so, you support war profiteering. okay. why am i not surprised?
i think it is extremely revealing that you confuse america with corporations.
Samson- @ 17:
I think is revealing you confuse news with Hollywood productions.....
chris @ 18:
I find it alarming that you don't. Have you watched "the News" lately?
Jimmi the Grey @ 19:
C&L is not news and yes and I get my new from many different sources, as should you.
chris @ 18:
do i?
i think your head-in-the-sand, ignorance has finally rendered you impotent.
tell me about united fruit
tell me about lockheed martin
boeing
general electric
halliburton
kbr
exxon
general dynamics
chevron
titan corporation
custer battles
Loral Satellite
Qualcomm
CACI int'l
BearingPoint
BKSH & Associates
bechtel
blackwater
etc., etc., etc.
i don't waste my time on your ignorant ass chris, i post this in hopes that someone who really cares about america (not you), who is not familiar with this, will look into it further.
look into how these companies lobby our decision makers, the campaign donations, the govt revolving door, the billions of dollars floating around and you will see a system that NEEDS war. an economy based on war spending, an economy that needs war to survive.
"When war becomes the most profitable course of action, we can certainly expect more of it." chalmers johnson
C&L is not news?? Then what is it? I would much rather read the blogs daily than anything the MSM has to offer. You consider Fox News real "news"?
custer battles
Greatest war profiteer company name EVER!
bradda @ 22:
A lot of people in this country have confused news and editorial/opinion for way too long.
C&L is as much as News as Fox is. I.e. not that much, they are both opinion pieces.
There is, I am afraid, literally no news outlets left in this country anymore. That is sad, and dangerous to a functioning democracy. Which may explain the current state of affairs in this country.
The Dude @ 24:
I agree it's news with opinion. The point is that the story is reported then the opinion inserted. You can bypass the opinion part of the post if you want and just go to the story they link. Just because opinions are added doesn't take anything away from the main point of the story.
bradda @ 25:
Not really, and I doubt any of the C&L creators would deny their own bias regarding what pieces they post and how they post/comment on them before allowing the rest of the bystanders to express their own opinions.
There is nothing wrong with that, as long as we are all adults and understand that.
This is, however, not a news website. Period...
Shorter chris @ any above:
Hail to the Corporate State! Evviva il Duce dal Texas!
The Dude @ 26:
We're kinda arguing the same point. I'm not saying C&L is the BBC or anything. I'm saying that while there is bias in what they post, that doesn't change the post. They post stories that fall through the cracks and ones that the MSM wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole. Thank God for blogs and their bias toward stories that need to be heard.
bradda @ 23:
And I'm sure they have a lot of splitting headaches.

Why does Hollywood keep producing war movies, pro or con?
America's not interested in war movies unless they're set in a pseudo-mythological past like Lord of the Rings, or overrated war movies set in the future like Star Wars.
Sorcery and lasers, that's it.
Samson- @ 21:
How many Americans have there pensions invested in Exxon Mobile? can anyone say teacher unions?
[chris. CAN YOU SAY OFF TOPIC? Sitemonitor]
chris @ 10:
Why are we using corporations to feed and house our troops, you twit? The troops should be feeding and housing themselves like they have since their inception. Are you really that stupid?
chris @ 31:
How many? You tell us.
And, yes, I can say "teacher unions [sic]". Can you make a point?
chris @ 10:
How are they "paying large sums in taxes" when many of the war-profiters now have off-shore headquarters? Oops.....you failed, once again.
ysbaddaden @ 30:
Yeah, no kidding. It's a shame that The Deer Hunter, Apocalypse Now, Black Hawk Down, Full Metal Jacket, Saving Private Ryan, and Jarhead all bombed....
This isn't a Hollywood movie. It's an independent film that John Cusack fought to produce because he wanted to make a political statement. The studios did not want to do this film so he did it himself. He should be applauded for his efforts.
[Deleted. Unnecessarily rude. Do you pop into dinner parties just to tell to host you don't like what's being cooked? Sitemonitor]
Darrell Kern @ 37:
It's ok then if I get yours? I'd like to bring a date.
chris @ 10:
The bigger the corp the less taxes percentage wise they pay, or they go offshore like Haliburton and avoid paying US taxes period (and they hope war crime trials).
Ah yes the equipment we use in wars of aggression, and genocides of weak poor people around the world,
something the employees in the MIC companies can be proud of.
"daddy daddy, how was your day?"
"fine, I made some more cluster bomblets at work today, ones that look like toys so to attract and kill brown children in poor countries"
Samson- @ 17:
Teenygoppers dwelling in parents basements, dream of the day they can be a cog in the MIC.
Their only sad moment is that facismo corporations dont have shiny black uniforms to go with the job.
No Coco Channel SS style uniforms for chris and his circle jerkers.
I find it interesting that this is being shown at the Wadsworth Theater. The Wadsworth is on the grounds of the WLA VA hospital.
chris @ 10:
... you mean like Haliburton who moved its headquarters to Dubai so it gets to pay nearly no taxes over here while getting billions of our hard earned taxes in no bid contracts.
BTW, the bulk of tax revenue now comes from income tax... a few decades ago it was corporate taxes. But thanks to your buddies you get to pay more of your share, so that they can enjoy better and larger mansions. You must be one of those idiots who gets screwed and is only all too happy to also pay for the screw with a big shit eating grin on his face.
Of course, I just fed the troll so I must apologize.
Tyler Durden @ 42:
dont worry chris is teen or twenty something and a basement dweller, lacking in common sense and brain cells too.
maybe one day he will grow up and see the world as it is.
Darrell Kern @ 37:
Yes, when my host is Jeffrey Dahmer.
randomstranger @ 35:
Different era. Kids now rule the box office.
chris @ 10:
Not to mention provide showers for them!!
Yeah, and those large taxes are really meaningful when you consider that these corporations are being paid with no-bid contracts and blank checks. High taxes aren't much of a burden when you're making infinite money.
chris gives rubes a bad name.
