McCain Showcases His Foreign Policy Expertise
By SilentPatriot Tuesday Jun 10, 2008 4:50pm...By telling a crowd that he's super qualified to be President due to his extensive foreign policy experience dealing with Vladimir Putin...the President of Germany.
At least the background he stood in front of wasn't lime green, right?

Germany, Russia; same thing....
This guy is actually dumber that Srhub! And they said it couldn't be done!
Ahahahahahahahaha!!! What a loser!
Is Putin not the Prime Minister of Russia, these days.
So many countries, so difficult to keep track of them all.
AAAUGH! Please! Republicans! Stop embarrassing us in front of the world!
No, really, that HAS to be a hoax or spoof of some sort.
What we really want to know is: did he look into his eyes and see his soul?
Putin isn't even the president, he's the Prime Minister.
senior moments suck, huh John?
wow. impeachment resolution passed 251-166. Next stop, judiciary committee.
McCain has a lot of senior moments it seems. Even if you support him, this has to be a bit of a concern given the complexity of the office.
Ha! He really IS McSame!
Jebus, he's really pandering to the 28%ers by being as dumb as herr dubyah and/or as senile as Ronny Raygun.
What's the big deal? All those countries are just past & future enemies!
A German, giving an old, cold-war style speech. Maybe he was watching Peter Sellers as Dr. Strangelove.
Ryoko @ 9:
No, that vote was to send it to committee.....where it will unfortunately die.
Well, I really can certainly see why the McCain campaign feels that he'll do better than Obama in the town hall meetings!
How any of these gaffes will Grandpa get away with until everyone knows for certain that he simply is not a qualified candidate for President of the United States. Was he in Germany, or Russia??? WTF??? Does he even KNOW? I agree, either he's dumber than The Shrub, or just TOO DAMN OLD. Either one isn't good for Rethugs.
Can we start calling McCain "Dubya-Dubya Two"?
Actually, the president of germany is Horst Kohler. Angela Merkel is the Chancellor of Germany. Important difference...
You guys know that the debates are going to be like watching Muhammad Ali box an 8 year old girl right?
McCain is addled and old, it is not a progressive stance to make sport of the infirm. Clean it up people!!
I am serious, we gain nothing by acting like Repubs.
marko @ 19:
We'll gain the White House. They refuse to play clean, why should we for the sake of being the "nice guy" who finishes second?
McGrampa is a old, senile, shell-of-a-man.....rinse, lather, repeat.
Ain't no dumb like Republican dumb. How I long for the days of Fred Thompson talking about green beans.
what the hell is he talking about? his gaffes are getting so bizzare i can't tell if he went to germany and thought it was russia, went to russia and thought it was germany, or what. can you imagine what this guy will be like 4 years from now?
I wonder if he had any clue about what he said until he spoke afterwards with one of his aides:
"Uh, sir, you said that Putin was President of Germany."
"Yeah, so what?"
"Uh, Putin's not the President of Germany, sir, he's the former Prime Minister of Russia."
"Don't you start gettin smart with me, sonny!"
Please, keep the green background!
That would cost them the election of and by itself.
Err…
nice green background, nice green background, nice green background.
beetlejuice beetlejuice beetlejuice
WW2...! brilliant! ...in a very sad way.
is there anyway to have a campaign without the guy speaking?
I can actually hear the country getting dumber.
And to think this guy has about a 50 + election fraud percent chance of winning the white house. Good grief.
Just add this one to the list of things that the candidate said or misspoke or misunderstood or whatever the excuse of the day may be. Tomorrow he will deny he said this and the comment about, it doesn't matter too much as to when the troops come home, and we'll start all over again.
You'd think a guy who spent most of his life in the Cold War would know the difference between the Germans and the Russians.
I think he was just having a senior moment. Or at least I hope no one could be quite THAT stupid.
David @ 18:
You beat me to it--I was just coming down here to point out the difference between Kanzler and Präsident. SilentPatriot, you may want to fix that bit...not as bad as McCain's gaffe, but still wrong.
that's nothing. just wait until his handlers up his meds to control his temper.
like jackson pollock meets nietzsche meets dadaism. pure pandemonium; a psychedelic meltdown.
maverick will make r. bud dwyer look like a shrinking violet.
Blue Lensman @ 24:
Yep, and then he would throw one of his infamous hissy fits.
I think his staff is afraid to try to correct him and that's why they brought in Lieberman and Lindsey to do it.
What a joke!! McBush doesn't have a clue what the hell he is doing just like Dumbya.
I want to know who the hell is going to vote for this stupid SOB and why?
"You guys know that the debates are going to be like watching Muhammad Ali box an 8 year old girl right?"
I think you meant, an 80 year old.....
Tarro @ 35:
McGrampa --> (R)
Reich-wingers put their party ahead of the country......every time.
OMFG.
We are so screwed.
Both candidates suk.
Bring Clinton back.
Geez.

Can we start calling McCain “Dubya-Dubya Two”?
That's FUNNY! I just about snorted my luke-warm coffee out of my nose!
let's be real people mistakes happen but this guy is bush all over again.......he gets stuffed like a turkey everyday with basic briefings......so he can fool us it's sales job
he doesn't know iraq and/or the economy........he has been cruising on the government dollar his entire life.he is numb and not capable of thinking outside the box
another McSenior moment...
"That's not change... my diapers!"
~ John McCain (R - Depends)
Bet they had a laugh or two over that great Russian beer.
Really, why don't they nominate an inflatable doll with a pullstring cord for soundbites? "Bomb Iran" "100 years" "Veto beer"

Major brain fart. I wonder if anyone heard the gas escape?
Dr. (terrorist fit jab) Matt @21-
Normally I'm with marko on this, but the last few weeks I've been thinkin like
Merlyn @19-
Hey, Obama can be ahead on points, winning the first seven rounds on points, but I'd rather see him land a knockout in the 8th than see McCain bounce back and land a haymaker in the 11th or 12th round. That said, I think Obama should watch for an opportune momment, rather than tapping all of his energy throwing a million unadvisable little jabs, or a big overhand left that might leave him open.
It's just that he's old enough to remember when a big chunk of Germany was called Prussia. Easy mistake.
Paging Senator Lieberman....
Holy. Shit.
Leslie [Hussein] @ 47:
funny... we have a mccain code blue
[chuckling]
(a little harmless OT here)
Dr Matt,
I expect "terrorist fist jab" to make the lists of Memorable Words & Phrases of 2008.
Merlyn @ 19:
bushit came off as a petulant fool living in a bubble in the debates with Kerry yet there were all the apologists claiming that good debating skills were not that important. And on top of that a good 50% of the electorate was stupid enough to vote for him leaving it just close enough for the republicks to steal the election.
OT
It is funny that no one demands to know what Cheney decided upon or discussed at his energy summit. Who attended this meeting? What did the attendees discuss? It sure is funny how all of the oil guys got so rich after Cheney’s energy summit. What gives?
Are the high gas prices the result of Cheney organizing the energy executives to drive up oil and get rich? Bushco had an energy plan. Are the high prices the result of this plan? Demand to see the minutes of Cheney’s energy meeting!
Proof positive McCain's more knowledgeable than Obama when it comes to foreign policy [/snarkity snark].
karl @ 49:
Senator Lieberman, Senator Lieberman. Code blue code blue. Old man with another brain fart. Is there a Lindsey Graham in the house? A Lindsey Graham. Please bring the Lindsey Graham.
Gosh - who doesn't confuse the two?????????
Did Puttie get a back rub from McCain?
*
This is a good thing.
And karl. thanks for mentioning codes.
We should be due for a trrrrest alert soon.Code orange ?
karl @ 49:
Maybe the DHS threat level color codes will be useful after all? LOL.
Leslie [Hussein] @ 47:
Very funny . . .

I say again, they don't want to win this one. They know that nobody can fix the mess the Administration has made in four years. They think they can make a comeback in 2012.
chharriett @ 16:
Age alone is not the problem. Ron Paul is a year older than McCain.
You may not like him, but no one's saying he's too old...
And McLobbyist was trying to come down on Obama about Jim Johnson (or whatever his name is) for being on the vetting "committee" for a Vice President. I think that McWrongcountrywrongsectwrongoneverything should be thinking more about himself. There is a lot to worry about there.
marko @ 20:
I agree with your sentiments. However, given the Oval Office Orangutan's apparent ignorance of all things foreign was indeed genuine ignorance of all things foreign ("I thought they were all Muslim."), we need to document these gaffs.
If McCain keeps this up, if these kinds of gaffs are routine, it is worth examining whether there is something more to them than understandable slips of the tongue. It worries me that he seems not to know the difference between al Qaida, Wahhabi, Sunni and Shiite. The "gaff" Traitor Joe Lie-to-Dems corrected could indicate something very serious.
On its own, as an isolated event, calling Putin the president of Germany might not even evince feebleness of mind, even in someone McCain's age. If he keeps this up, though, I will be glad to have a record of it in cyberspace.
Billy @ 60:
NJ Senator Frank Lautenberg is older than McSame too, and yet he doesn't appear old.
Here comes the Alzheimer's!
Ron @ 59:
it will two terms at least to turn this around policy and time will turn it around with good leadership and some luck
Obviously McCain knows that Putin is president of Russia. What's going on here is not ignorance, but dementia. Specifically, he has a form of frontotemporal dementia called Primary Progressive Aphasia. This is what's causing him to pull the wrong words out of the databank -- veto every beer, etc. It's also why it's difficult for him to read the teleprompter. It will progress slowly and may not become much more noticeable before December. On the other hand, other symptoms may become more evident. These often include personality changes, and compromised executive function, i.e. the ability to plan and organize goal-oriented activities. There's a chance he won't be the Republican nominee in November.
marko @ 20:
If he's infirm he can get some Viagra from Bob Dole -- OR Rush, come to think of it.
Vitter would be a good source for diapers - if he ever needs them - just a thought.

This guy finished at the bottom of his class. Now add a healthy dose of elderly senility and you're looking at a total mess.
If you've had fun watching Chimpy bitchslap the English language...watch McSame do the same to basic facts and truths.
Somebody tell him the cold war's over.
Billy @ 60:
your right but Paul is 70+ going on 60 and mccain is 70+ going on 80......i'm not a paul guy but i'll put my money on paul for smarts
McCain is perfect for president. This gaffe just points to how intellectually feeble he is. The ruling class requires a president that devoid of scruples and critical thinking. Reagan was a model prez. Clinton was good due to his obedience and slickness . Bush was a bonanza. Never has a prez worked so tirelessly for his masters. McCain may not be as enthusiastic as Bush but he will do. Obama seems a bit uppity....
karl @ 65:
You may be on to something. Chimpy's fuck ups over the past eight years will require a miracle to clean up. The GOP will happily let Obama try....only to give him shit every step of the way.
McCain's problem is he's too old AND he's out of touch. C'mon - a president who doesn't even know how to turn on a computer? I'm sorry - times have changed -- McCain isn't old by today's standards - he's ANCIENT. And it is showing up in a myriad of ways.
McCain's age IS an issue.

Dr. (terrorist fit jab) Matt @ 14:
No there's still a chance for it to come back alive should need be. Esp. when Scott McLellan testifies.
cervantes @ 66:
Well, his candidacy makes a little more sense, at any rate. I mean, dig it: Reagan was senile, Bush Sr got night terrors at the mention of broccoli, and the current president is the walking, talking personification of a lobotomy. Them repugs: they dig a prez they can victimize and manipulate.
Trittydi @ 73:
i think your right i personally respect my elders a problem this country has but like i said earlier i think mccain's biological age is higher than 70+ and wait when has to deal with this mess.......i say he can't do it
'Tarro @ # 35 '
" I want to know who the hell is going to vote for this stupid SOB and why? "
People in the Red States and there are a lot of them.
"Mcstaken has Mcspoken" - Mcunderstander

out
i wonder how president Horst Kohler of germany felt about losing his job to the prime minister of russia?
john "who's in charge over there again?" mccain is the best thing to happen to the democrats since the invention of sliced bread.
Maybe not the right section but: How can I send a link to this video by email to a friend (right winger Bush supporter)? He thinks the earth is no more than 10k old and is totally informed by outlets like FOX. There is so much good info on this site I would like to point out to him but I don't know how.
[why not send him a link to the site, or even to just this post on the site? - site monitor]
they better strap a large can of red bull to his back because he is going to run out of steam...he could snap
marko @ 20:
Give me a break! That disingenuous creep stands up there and acts like a total fool, and you want us to keep quiet?
Look at the fool that we have now. There is no way America can tolerate another sociopath liar?
laskdj @ 80:
don't change that.....you'll need that humor as time goes a friend like that is priceless
Comrade Rou @ 71:
Yeah, but only HALF uppity - remember, he's only half black.

Can someone help me and explain the context that I'm obviously taking this statement out of? I guess I've consumed too many German beers today, Pilsner Urquells.
snark/
On NBC Nightly News tonight McCain did not have on his flag lapel pin but Obama had on his.
Nobody questioned McCain about his lack of lapel pin, why I'll bet McCain could have even gotten by with a terrorist fist pump!
Ben @ 74:
And don't forget, July 10th deadline for Rove. Something is brewing I think. We have to keep the heat up.
The MSM will be of no help whatsoever until they want to step in and start diffusing it much more actively.

I work in a nursing home, and the ironic thing is that the folks who live with pain, a little cancer here and there...they seem to hang on forever.
But the one's who are healthy and vivacious....One little hangnail pushes 'em towards the edge of their mortal coils quickly.
Andy K Jong Il @ 87:
At least he didn't call him Pooty Poot
i don't totally follow your point but sure there are hypochondriacs and there are people that live with pain....i'm clearly stating mccain's biological age is higher than calendar age and if he get to the whitehouse he will age that much quicker
I think his been dipping into Cindy's stash. This addled wife-abuser isn't fit for command of a rowboat much less a country. It is only a matter of time before his caregivers will have to stand on stage with him to clam him up when he starts babbling.
McCain is like a gunman headed into a kindergarten.
There is ABSOLUTELY no excuse not to stop him!
he will vetoe beer and then begin a new cold war with germany
huzzah
Oh dear - can puking into the lap of a foreign dignitery be far behind?
Ryoko @ 9:
Listen, I'm 66, not 71 and suffer from CRS-- can't remember shit.
Was he even in Germany? I must now wonder.

this video, I noted it has been on that site for four(4) months...Why are we just
now gaining access to this on C&L?
Poor bastard, Alzheimer's sucks! I wouldn't wish it on anyone, even a Republican.
Taken out of context. Not important. Move on, nothing to see here.
Did anybody notice if Obama was wearing a flag lapel pin?
Chancellor Theobald von Bethmann Hollweg
was the LAST German leader that John "THE BUSH REPUBLICAN" McCain knew as a friend and classmate
