The right's misguided frenzy over the American Physical Society
By Steve Benen Friday Jul 18, 2008 8:00pm
Daily Tech had an item that caused a bit of a stir in conservative circles.
The American Physical Society, an organization representing nearly 50,000 physicists, has reversed its stance on climate change and is now proclaiming that many of its members disbelieve in human-induced global warming. The APS is also sponsoring public debate on the validity of global warming science. The leadership of the society had previously called the evidence for global warming “incontrovertible.”
This, coming the same day as Al Gore’s speech, was apparently quite exciting to those on the right who prefer to deny global warming and/or its causes.
One said, “The Association of Physical Scientists has reversed its position on anthropogenic global warming. Where it once considered its position ‘incontrovertable’ [sic] it is now sponsoring open debate on the matter... This is a big deal."
Another argued, “[Physicists] bailing on Gore…. The rats are leaving the ship. Global warming alarmists are frauds.”
Jonah Goldberg initially said, “The same day that Al Gore does his man-to-the-moon spiel on global warming, the American Physical Society — the second largest professional association of physicists — rescinds its total support for the global warming. I await the usual chorus to sing us a tune about how the APS is ‘anti-science.’”
Red State told readers, “The headline at The Drudge Report website, ‘Group Repping 50,000 Physicists Opens Global Warming Debate…’ [linked to dailytech.com] says it all.”
Except, in this case, it didn’t say it all. Climate Progress explains the story very well, including all the reasons the right is wrong about this.

just another lie brought to you by the people who couldn't tell the truth to save their make-believe immor(t)al souls
http://www.livescience.com/environment/080718-aps-gw.html
of course, their supporters think education and science are brought to you by the devil...so is there any question who they will choose to believe?
The deniers are now really grasping at straws.
Still, don't forget, they've got lots of money and power behind them and they won't go down without a fight.
Fake pearls cast before real swine, in this case from oil cartel whores, to the brainwashed wingnuts. This is funny.
Not to be critical, but reading the post above made it sound as though the APS really was denying global warming. But on second reading, it seems the right is only claiming that the APS is now denying the global warming. Right? I had to go into the Climate Progress link to get a grip on this (thanks for that linky).
No lack of gaseous emissions from the right.
Jack Canuck @ 2:
they'll burn the entire planet before they give up. people have got to wake up to how serious this threat is.

If more people understood the very real threats of climate change and if they were given the tools to mitigate these threats, corporate Amerika would see a decrease in profit as citizens curtailed their lifelong love affair with the gas guzzling automobiles Detroit designs and sells.
However, other industry's profits would soar as more citizens began to demand cleaner, greener ways of transport.
But most are kept in the dark and worse with shock jocks ridiculing those who would give citizens the knowledge and tools to live greener lives.
It is these mega rich corporate fat cats who see their bottom line fall that are behind the nay sayers with huge amounts of money spread around to pay off those willing to sacrifice the planet for 30 pieces of silver.
This is great! In one day we discover that the war in iraq is over and was a success and global warming is a fraud! Good thing we have good folks like mcsame and the bushie 'religion is science' company telling us the truth. What else is the 'librul media' not telling us?
Damn my sarcasm meter just exploded.
Great post -- first saw it at Carpetbagger. I'm just waiting for one of the local nutters to write into the letters section of my city's paper and then I can slam them with all this info. Again, thanks.
Also, I went to Climate Progress and emailed the people at the bottom of the story urging them to dismiss Marque, the editor responsible for running the piece. Got a response from Zwicker after only about 3 minutes thanking me and saying they were working on a response.
I hope they can Marque's anti scientific propagandizing butt.
I hope they get eaten by a polar bear.
Conservatives have no clue about the peer review process.
Show them a peer-reviewed journal article and some opinion piece from a Web site and it's all the same to them.
That's why most academic economists laugh at their Supply Side malarky too.
I'm surprised these shysters aren't telling everyone that Global Farting caused by not enough tax cuts for the rich and corporations is what's causing climate change.
My dear republican'ts this is NOT the "so called global warming" the left is trying to push on us. Its OUR FATHER GOD.....telling us to prepare for the rapture. YeeeeeeHaawwwww!!! Its rapture time ;-)
It's scary when ignorance and hatred start to rule the world.
The oil companies would sacrific their children if it meant a bump in next quarters profits.
Their is no consciousness that the holocaust happened, does that mean it didn't?
Getting 100% of the people to agree on an issue, no matter what the issue, is never going to happen - but presenting the disagreements as if they represent a genuine equal disagreement is dangerous to scientific understanding and the advancement of our society. It is sort of like the MSM parading out blacks to talk about politics, they try to be "fair" so they have about an equal % support McCain and an equal number support Obama, leading the viewer to think there is a real split in the black community about Obama v McCain, then the polls come out and its something like a 75 point lead for Obama.
It's tough battling with a group of people who strategically propogate lies at every opportunity to a willing audience that wants fantasy over reality.
At this point, there is no reason for them to not just make up everything they say without benefit of a public story. Gven the virulence of their revisions, it would seem that they do not even need a lead story anymore. Why wait for a tangible tidbit if your believers do not care about the details?
kep306 @ 15:
isn't that what they are doing now?
What are you going to do? Give the SUN a citation? Give me a break!
Become a vegetarian if you are convinced that you are causing global warming, but don't force your beliefs down my throat. We don't need another excuse for more government control and more taxes. No thanks!
tuddies @ 19:
as in corporations polluting my air and my drinking water? would that be akin to forcing their beliefs down my throat?
Troll @ 19
The Corporatists will trot out the stupid and the glib in an attempt to defeat or deflect the science that might cause them to lose any money. The planet and its inhabitants be damned.
tuddies @ 19:
Fine, I won't force my beliefs down your throat so long as you don't force your car exhaust down mine!
Oh wait we all live in an interconnected world and my beliefs are about how your actions are impacting me, you have the right to do whatever the fuck you want to do so long as it doesn't impact me, but if it does impact me then the government has the right to step in and mediate between our interest to figure out what is best for the country.
tuddies @ 19:
It's not our beliefs we are going to force down your throat,
it's our reality you will have to swallow.
and don't resist, it just hurts more.
try to relax and enjoy it. You helped make it happen.
I'd comment on the science involved here but this happens to be one of those subjects, like building seven, where passions outweigh the science.
So... ONE GUY in THIRTY NINE "associated links" sez he has second thoughts about global warning...
and now Sean Hannity will turn up his volume and SHOUT TO THE MOUNTAINTOPS a thousand "I told you so's." Laura Ignrahm too... they're like Siamese twins connected at the jaw bone... will SCREAM BLOODY MURDER about the left wing conspiricy to "harm" the petroleum industry with their global warming lies. Don't you understand that all Al Gore wants to do is RE-DIRECT BILLIONS OF DOLLARS into the coffers of businesses that are developing alternative (green) energy sources. IT'S A DIABOLICAL PLOT!
WELL... DUH!
Peter G @ 24:
why don't you leave the commenting on the science to the scientists. I've heard enough lies from bigots.
Look. T. Boone Pickins has basically got it right. It's about THE MONEY... as much as it's about the pollution. Keeping the planet a little cleaner for our children and their children is a really good reason to reduce greenhouse gasses. Preventing the largest transfer of wealth in human history (from OUR POCKETS into the purses of the oil companies) is another really good reason to invest in new WIND AND SOLAR industries. Don't you get it? WE HAVE more wind and solar than they do... and it's cleaner.
The ONLY thing I can agree with the right on with regards to global warming is you can't have the spokesperson for it, Al Gore, flying around in his jet all over the place, and heating his multiple million square feet homes - kinda makes him look like an asshole.
redwhite&blue Says:
I’m really tired of this global warming thing. Why is it okay for the left to push this on America as if they are 100% certian and they have the answers. However, when the right has an idea, they are mean, racist ect. There is no way in 3.5 billion years of history that the earth all of the sudden is in danger thanks to us and 100 years of growth?!?
It's called peer-reviewed science, bonehead. It shows us that there hasn't been this much carbon in the air in 450,000 years. I'm sorry you're tired of this "global warming thing." It's obvious you have a short attention span. Please, concentrate. Try reading. Then try to learn writing. Then learn to look up something called The Scientific Method. Also learn what an imperative statement is; I believe that's what you were trying to make with your last entry there. The question mark only serves to confuse issues. Questions are for people seeking real answers. Your obvious tiredness and lack of emotional IQ may make this a problem for you.
redwhite&blue @ 28:
Why not? Many species, including humans, have had significant impact upon the earth. We wouldn't even be here if microscopic organisms hadn't pumped oxygen into the atmosphere. The Chesapeake Bay was overfished long before we mastered commercial fishing. The Mayans likely fell not due to European disease, but to massive famine caused, in part, by over farming. The question isn't whether or not humans are making an impact on the environment - it's how bad that impact is. I, for one, don't want to get it wrong.
Warming seems to be happening, IF its very human pushed that is a question, and how reversible, my 2c is not much.
the bigger question is keeping humans alive and society going during any catastrophes or rapid sea level rising,
cities and low levels flooding and all the nasty things that occur.
Greenish policies and recycling where possible and efficient industries, tech, and lifestyles makes sense on a financial, engineering and common sense level.
Same with industrial and urban pollution which tends to get ignored to a certain degree in this CO2 hysteria we witness.
The thousands of tonnes of nerve agents and nasty crap dumped into the seas over the last 100 or so years is worrying, old mil chemical warfare munitions rusting away on the continental shelves is a real future killer of humanity.
Attila the Appeaser, No Stomach for Kristol @ 10:
There won't be any polar bear left. The rich and powerful are never in any danger as long as they can make their society apathetic. There is no society more apathetic, and more anxious to believe that global warming is a myth, than the United States. I am excluding present company of course.
Thanks for the linkage... by cliking through to the APs site, i found 9under links for "physics enthusiasts") this awesome project:

donate unused cycles of your computer processor to researching gravitational waves!
(mine does it when not researching for the World Community Grid, Seti@Home, and Climate Prediction).
Phhhhht! @ 30:
When you say left and right you should really say smart and stupid. The right sells a lot of shit that only a stupid person would buy. That is why the right has mega rich people and poor white trash belonging to their club. The left generally seeks out truth and calls bullshit on just about everything the right say, therefore they would have to be considered the more enlightened non-suckers.
Now seeing that I live in Canada, and have seen my Igloo melt in the middle of winter, I have to say that I have first hand knowledge of global warming. Also seeing that the Right lies about every other issue, I would guess that the opposite of what they say is the truth.
A couple of examples of right wing lying sound bites.
Iraq has WMD - America isn't in a recession - If we drill, oil will be cheaper - The left wants the terrorists to win - We won the 2000 presidential election - Obama is a Muslim - Iraq will pay for itself in oil - blah bullshit blah....
redwhite&blue @ 28:
I think abject ignorance and blatant corruption might have something to do with it. Let's stop playing the wounded bird shall we? That isn't going to change reality so stop acting like a bigot and accept that you are going to have to amend your selfish, arrested adolescent ways.
oh, and for the record, the right is mean and racist...and lacking ideas....at least valid or useful ones.
Don from Canada @ 35:
Thank you!
you're either pro-environment or pro-idiot. I'll ignore for now that a bunch of idiots with cash managed to influence their fellow idiots into hijacking the "conservative" label.
If you mow your lawn, If you vacuum your floors, wash your dishes, pick up your trash...then you are doing it because you are concerned about your immediate environment. If you are concerned about your immediate environment...but you scoff at clean air, clean rivers, clean beaches....you're a hypocritical moron.
The true anti-environmentalist is unbathed, uneducated trash that never mows his lawn, has about 10 dead cars in his yard, a dozen house pets that crap everywhere...and children they never monitor.
any anti-environmentalists out there want to argue that they are somehow better than the lowest scum? Oh, how about our good buddies like Rush Limbaugh? Did I hear Rush moaning about elites on the left last week? As if that guy buys his cigars and suits at WalMart! Nevermind that he gets paid to be the squawkpiece of corporate bottomfeeders who rely upon svengalis like Limbaff to dupe the ever-gullible NASCAR dads (read: remedial idiots who resent being called remedial idiots) into sucking off his tailpipe when they aren't giving him a reach-around.
These morons are willing to believe anybody who feeds them any crap as long as it gives them the opportunity to take a swipe back at those they love to hate most....those stuck-up, intellectually snobby lefties who have been looking down on these confederate-luvin, rebel wannabes who have been suffering the indignation and humiliation of being proved stupid since 1st grade.
You've got 2 types of intelligent Republicans:
1) The intellectual progressives who bailed with Teddy Roosevelt.
2) The criminally insane like Rush who only stick around to exploit the party...and their idiot base.
all the rest cry about faith...because it's the corner they have been backed into by their own abject stupidity.
...and that's the tactful version
Your right, the planet will be just fine. It has endured Floods, Meteor impacts, Ice ages and mass extinctions. I guess what you are missing comes down to a simple case of semantics, When we, those on the left (i.e. scientists, archeologists, climatologists etc.) say the Earth is in peril we mean WE HUMANS are in peril. Honestly, I thought that would have been clear to even a fifth grader, but I guess I underestimated the reasoning capabilities of you all on the right (i.e. low browed mouth breathers with the IQ of a gold fish…and Rush Limbaugh).
Second point of fact, If we are wrong about global climate change, and we humans are having no effect on the planets climate, then what’s the harm in the changes being introduced? A little cleaner air and water? Not being a slave to big oil?
However, If you are wrong about our effect on the planet then we all die!
Personally, I’d rather err on the clean air and water side, thank you very much.
global warming...real
anthropogenic global warming...too many external variables to ever come to a conclusion
the end
alzuben @ 26:
Seeing as I've said absolutely nothing I think you're being a little childish. Given the subject matter the word bigots would seem inappropriate unless the building seven comment struck home.
Okay.....let's just get this out there.
You can be pro environment AND be skeptical about global warming.
I'm all for cutting pollution, cleaning up the air and water, and limiting the waste that we produce, but i'm also skeptical about global warming. I am not a republican, nor am i for big oil or any of that. Being skeptical about global warming does not make me Rush Limbaugh, nor anyone else for that matter.
fearmongering is fearmongering whether it be from the left or the right.
fellow_voyager @ 41:
When something like global warming is so obvious and well documented, what is the difference between being skeptical and apathetic?
Too bad if Republicans understood science, they'd realize that global warming has nothing to do with physics, anyway.
First off, global warming is neither obvious nor well documented.
Let's see. Many countries experienced the coldest winters they have had in a 100 years. There has been no documented warming since 1998. Two recent peer-reviewed studies (one from USC and one from Institute of Oceanology from the Russian Institute of Sciences) contradict the CO2 = higher temperatures claim.
There is a lot about the climate we know nothing about. and to claim that anyone who disagrees with you is an idiot smacks of hubris.
Evidently the time for debate wasn't over.
I'm sure most people would like to cut pollution and help the environment, and there are ways of going about it, but the doomsday man-made global warming religious cult that many on the left subscribed to was always a blatent farce without any reasonable scientific basis. Yes the globe is changing, but the activity of humans has very little to do with that in contrast to how the suns becoming increasingly more violent.
All Gore is doing is aiding the agenda of those who want to implement world taxation by one global governing body. Why do we forget that this snake oil salesman was a part of the corrupt Clinton Administration? Yes, I'm aware it's easy to make the Clinton Administration look saintly compared to the current administration, but the Clinton adminstration was still corrupt nonetheless.
kep306 @ 15:
Not quite... but they would sacrifice OUR children for a bump in next quarter's profits...
As a physicist, and non-member, who gives a rat fuck what these people think? This is like asking an MD about nuclear fusion - you will get someone who thinks they are experts in all fields who will then give an opinion on the subject but this will have no real scientific value. Physicist have only a little better understanding on this subject then most people. Climate issues are only properly addressed by experts like climatologist who understand the science! This is a sick joke since only really stupid people would ever believe that this group has any more authority on this subject than any arbitrary collection of educated people.
While I have a very good understanding of thermo, and math models I could never get a handle on climate theroy without long study of the subject. Once more, smart people can be very stupid too. Its all relative.
Nick @ 39:
'Global warming' the MSM media sensation per se is debatable, urban heat islands and the surrounding of the thermometers and all that.
and theres the nasty HIGH average temperatures of the early mid thirties, Oklahoma dust bowl and all that.
I recommend anybody to go check out Yahoo's daily records for temperature, the 1930s will shock you.
Peeing and moaning about mid 90s say here in MN, when it got to 110 in the summer back then.
Of course weather and temp cycles exist, and theres the long term cycles which look like trends or slopes on a graph.
And of course no matter what causes this, it kills people, ruins crops, and disrupts life as we know it.
So understanding and planning for change IS a good idea.
DBrown @ 47:
Ever heard of, or seen the computer game from Maxis 'Sim Earth' from 1990 ?
One thing you wont get from any video of 'Sim Earth' on Youtube or similar is the feel of the original Amiga version of the game,
the PC DOS and other versions had lacklustre graphics and sounds,
the Amiga version was full hires graphics and sampled female human sounds for Gaia
And the Amiga was the preferred personal computer of academia in the late 80s early 90s.
James Lovelock's Gaia was fully animated as a sexy female cartoon earth spirit,
the face of Gaia was super imposed of the Earth and good and bad sounds would happen as the player made their world eco decisions.
Taking advantage of the well before its time Amiga multimedia capabilities, Sim Earth was quite an indoctrination tool.
And rather good fun and a good learning tool, I had an Amiga and this program.
The real point here is not whether global warming is anthropogenic. It is, rather, the totally disingenuous way the right wing is using this story for its own purposes. The simple fact -- and it's one that everyone in this room knows, but that most others may not know -- is that the APS did not reverse its position, did not move an inch from its endorsement of conclusions drawn from scientific observation. Yet Drudge and, soon, Fox will be smirking and telling their benighted audiences that Gore has been deserted by the APS and the scientific community.
Please remember this: the APS has not changed its mind about global warming. Al Gore is still in alignment with the APS and v ice versa. And, oh yeah, Matt Drudge is still and will always be The Eggman.
OK, THERE MIGHT BE CREDIBLE DEBATE ON EITHER SIDE OF THIS SUBJECT. IF WE WERE TO ASUME, HOWEVER, THAT G.W. IS A PRODUCT OF HUMAN ACTIVITY, WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND THINKS THAT HUMANITY WOULD BE ABLE TO REALLY DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT AT ALL ! EVERYONE AGREES 100% THAT WE HAVE HUNGER IN PARTS OF THE WORLD, YET WILL ANYTHING BE DONE ABOUT IT? NO. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.
the deniers will drown or burn up along with the rest of us.
unfortunately there will be no special hell for 'em.
keep an eye on 'em, though, remember who and where they are
{ Deleted, Please don't advocate violence of any kind here. Thank You. SiteMonitor}
"objectively" global hunger isn't really a bad thing. famine is almost always the result of political decisions--vis: allocation/distribution--rather than scarcity, per se. Not a matter if whether any starve, but who shall starve. Darfur and other places in the Horn of Africa are case-studies.
Otoh, North Koreans are starving, not because of a prejudice in their system, but because their agriculture was based on cheap fertilizers made possible by cheap petroleum which is no longer available to them from the sources which once provided for them. This is, also, obviously, an allocative decision, only at a higher level, at a remove from the soil, per se, to the systems of exploiting the soil.
Given Murka's almost total reliance on chemical agriculture, the pentagon's insatiable appetite for fuel--the great white fleet can't sail w/out coal--and the closing of the petroleum window, there could be wide-spread starvation in even the 'developed' world as the climate continues to change.
WASF co-broadcasts with WTFU-TV...terrified and unbalanced...
if Obama doesn't step up and accept Gore's challenge, I can't vote for anybody this year for preznit...i'll vote down ticket: tom udall, e.g. but i shall withhold my vote at the top of the ticket...if he hasn't the guts to stand up and face the challenge square, then scroom, he'll never be anything but a shifty-ass meliorator....
Gary @ 45:
" .... the suns becoming increasingly more violent."
Could you please supply a reference?
About every six months the professional deniers "discover" that we've got global warming all wrong, and the nutwingers go into an ecstatic frenzy over it. Most people never hear the fact that the "discovery" was in fact utter b.s., because the people peddling it so vigorously are motivated not to publicize any retraction.
Peter G @ 40:
more like you thought absolutely nothing...and alluded to your ignorance.
now you have compounded that with evidence.
Gary @ 45:
And naturally, we should reject the near-consensus of the scientific community on your say-so.
I can't believe a single one of you morons is actually arguing in favor of more pollutants in your environment.
how ig'nant!
Another take on why journalists aren't scientists: Tim Lambert at Deltoid.
Nick @ 39:
Nick,
Glad to have your input and to know that the jackass moron "know-nothing" crowd is so well represented. Do you guys have a newsletter? Oh yeah, over and out. Or should I say, the end? I'm not really up on all the latest internet traditions.
one look at motivation will demonstrate that the anti-environmentalists are bottomfeeding scum.
If you see it in on TV or a newspaper, it's probably a lie. Remember weapons of mass destruction and people in New Orleans shooting at helicopters? Same lies, same media.
I never see anyone in this "movement" talk about the REAL hazards of lead, mercury, PCB's, insecticides: in fact Monsanto is growing food with the insecticides INSIDE THE FOOD. Instead you are worried about carbon dioxide. This lets the chemical companies completely off the hook , putting it instead on the poor of the world that according to most on here should never get electricity or clean water because it would be better if they just died off.
Left or right are just code words for easily programmed stooges.
Gary @ 45:
You are promoting more frauds by the global warming deniers who are terrifiied that their unsustainable status quo will need to change. World taxation by one body? A little paranoid are we? Or are you a dupe of the voodoo economists that think taxation is evil? Please spare us your fearmongering.
And we look forward to your peer reviewed proof of solar warming. Your opinion does not constitute prima facie proof.
Nick @ 39:
Thanks for the reminder about anthrocentric arrogance and denial. It isn't the end but might be the beginning of the end thanks to human inability to live within their means and consumptionist and entitlement mentality.
The purpose of misinformation like this is political not scientific. If trumpeted enough, the same people who buy creationism and the link between Saddam Hussein and 911 will buy this too. Conveniently, this is a major election year, and any 24/7 media circus rebuttal of climate science should give status quo politicians cover to continue subsidizing fossil fuel energy economics and dovetail nicely with the fantasy paradigms of authoritarian religious and political voters.
Right wing strategy:
Deny existence of warming. When that fails, deny human-caused warming. When that fails, spread apathy and fear about possibilities to correct the problem. When that fails, start over at the beginning and pretend the debate never happened.
You right wingnuts are ridiculous! Sean Hannity and Limbaugh have you so Chicken-Littled that you can't see the forest for the trees! Switching to a sustainable energy economy is not only beneficial to EVERYONE on the planet, but is crucial for the survival of our culture! EVEN IF THERE IS NO WARMING, WE CAN'T USE OIL FOREVER!! WAKE UP!!!
But, I'm sure you'd rather just throw your hands up, say there's nothing we can do, and wait for the rapture. You disgust me. I hope your children someday make you feel like the irresponsible, apathetic and selfish individuals that you are.
"Daddy, why didn't America try to fix the environment?"
"Sorry, son, we refused to see the problem, and thought that we'd all be raptured..."
"What's a rapture?"
"Well, we thought that Jesus would sweep us all into heaven and save the world for us..."
"Wow, that's f***ing stupid. You really screwed the pooch, huh, dad?"
"Yes, son. We did. Now pass me the gas mask so I can breathe this gorgeous spring air..."
Exactly, however, you missed a step; "Claim that global warming is fabricated by the left to screw you out of carbon taxes". The reaches these nuts will go to is mind numbing.
cut off federal welfare to red states
no more food stamps for anti-enviromental hillbillies.
Exactly how much have YOU researched this? I maean, other than listening to the echo chamber.
It's not that skeptics say that the planet ISN'T warming. There's plenty of evidence to show that it IS warming... but there's also plenty of evidence to that shows that the planet has been continuously warming for the past EIGHT THOUSAND YEARS! Last time I checked, that predates the industrial revolution.
No, what the skeptics are calling into question is the proposal that CARBON DIOXIDE is CAUSING the problem, when the geological records would seem to indicate that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide FOLLOWS an increase in temperature, it doesn't come BEFORE the increase in temperature.
Look at what we're talking about here.
You're trying to convince people that a molecule which comprises a THIRD... OF A TENTH... OF A PERCENT of our atmosphere is CAUSING this problem.
The bottom line is: if the climate of the entire planet can be so adversely affected by a molecule that comprises a THIRD... OF A TENTH... OF A PERCENT of the total atmosphere... then we're lost already...
If I were to subscribe to your beliefs, then the ONLY conclusion that I can come to is that the ecosystem is WAY TOO fragile... and that NO MATTER what we do to stop this "crisis", there's only going to be another ecological boogie man, waiting around the next corner, for you fear-mongers to try and use on me.
I won't be frightened by whatever "Emmanuel Goldstein" that you wish to present me with today, so that I may gnash my teeth at it for two minutes, whether that "enemy" be a person, or an alleged ecological disaster.
The environmental fear-mongers are no better than the terror fear-mongers. You're ALL trying to "scare me into doing something", when really, it's all about being forced to follow an agenda.
I respectfully decline.
motivation is everything....and anti-enviromentalists are scum.
thus it is demonstrated.
James:
Is that a new law of science? If something consists of 0.03 % of something else, that something else can be ignored?
And I thought the skeptics ARE saying that earth is no longer warming after hitting that one record in '98.
I direct all idiots to this link:

James @ 70:
It's your god given right to play in traffic too when others may try to warn you against it. Stop being such a whiney and a willfully ignorant dumb shit. That you can so righteously display such profound ignorance shows a lack of awareness that makes me wonder who breaths for you.
James @ 70:
I wonder how you would like a third of a tenth of a percent of your food intake to be mercury?
And we probably are lost already. The polar thaws are actually running ahead of the "fear mongering" forecasts. And even if we absolutely shut off all greenhouse emissions today, the planet would continue warming until it reaches its new equilibrium point and/or starts digesting those gasses back to historical levels.
And the chances of us shutting off all emissions are about the same as the chances of Dick Cheney admitting that he's wrecked the country trying to please his buddies in the oil business.
So how's the outlook?
OK, next time your in a building and you hear a fire alarm, don't leave!
It's just someone trying to scare you into doing something....
